Shortly after Dick Van Dyke played Bert in Mary Poppins, he starred as Lt. Robin Crusoe in this lesser known 1966 comedy, splendidly showcasing his myriad comedic talents in a South seas setting. Families who remember Van Dyke's riotous romp as Navy-pilot-turned-island-native will appreciate this digital release of the original film. The laughs begin from the moment Crusoe is marooned at sea on a military-issue rubber raft and fights off a shark while reading a step-by-step survival guide. By the time he washes ashore on the island, discovers the wonders of bamboo, and stumbles upon a poker-playing astro-Chimp, audiences are given over to the gigglefest. Nancy Kwan, as Wednesday, adds to the merriment as the island's other castaway who plays a humorous game of charades with Crusoe before revealing her status as an exile, having escaped her overprotective father. With the battle cry, "Women have rights too," Crusoe and Wednesday prepare for the inevitable patriarchal showdown, a madcap misadventure. While special features are sorely lacking--such as an interview with Van Dyke--this decent family flick remains a rich Disney relic. (Ages 4 and older) --Lynn Gibson

5 out of 5 stars I saw this when it first came out........2007-06-28

I was 8 and now I still remember some of the scenes after 40 years. It was quite a fun movie and surely left a great impression on me.

4 out of 5 stars Dick Van Dyke as Robin Crusoe.......2007-05-10

Another favorite from kid-hood, I have always been a big fan of D.V.D. (not just DVD) and this is one of my Favorites, this film probably couldn't be made in todays overly PC world, but its still a pretty funny movie if you watch it in the vien it which it is presented.

4 out of 5 stars Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N. DVD.......2007-01-10

Great comedy!!!
The only bad part I found was the way they made all women seem a little stupid. I overall enjoyed this movie.

4 out of 5 stars Mindless Fun.......2006-11-10

This is a typical 1960s Disney style movie that has good humor and is fun to watch.

5 out of 5 stars Disney Classics Never Die!.......2006-02-22

My Dad used to own a video store when I was young, so we saw all of the Disney movies and owned tons of them. Lt. Robin Crusoe is one movie I loved to watch because of the chimp in it. So when it came out on DVD I just had to get it. My two girls are ages 5 and 3 and I didn't think they would like to watch it just yet but I was wrong. They love it! Even though they don't understand some of the humor, they still enjoy it. The movies that are being made today are getting worse and worse, with the exception of Disney's and very few others. The movies that were made 20 years ago are so much more decent and very enjoyable for the whole family. This movie is one of the great Disney classics that should belong in every home!!
