Snow Dogs is not a fantasy about talking dogs--it's a heartwarming story about personal growth starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and a sled team of Siberian huskies. When Dr. Ted Brooks, a successful, sun-loving dentist from Miami, receives a summons to the minuscule town of Tolketna, Alaska, his mother is forced to confess that he was adopted. Teddy's desire to quickly return to Miami yields to a burgeoning curiosity about his deceased mother and biological father. Teddy's experiences in Alaska acquaint him firsthand with the wonders of sled dogs, the sport of mushing, human sacrifice, and love. The city slicker's hilarious attempts to mush even culminate in a hero's reception at the finish of the prestigious "Arctic Challenge." Snow Dogs is 99 minutes of breathtaking vistas, amusing comedy, and entertainment suited for the entire family. Rated PG due to the occasional outhouse joke and other mild crude humor. --Tami Horiuchi
Description
Make no bones about it -- Disney's SNOW DOGS is a hilarious action-packed comedy your whole family will love. Eight adorable but mischievous dogs get the best of dog hater Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr.) when he leaves his successful Miami Beach dental practice for the wilds of Alaska to claim his inheritance -- seven Siberian huskies and a border collie -- and discover his roots. As Ted's life goes to the dogs, he rises to the occasion and vows to learn to mush with his inheritance. Totally out of his element, he faces challenges he's never dreamed of. There's a blizzard, thin ice, an intimidating crusty old mountain man named Thunder Jack (James Coburn), the Arctic Challenge Sled Dog Race that's only two weeks away, and a life-and-death rescue. This fish-out-of water, tail-wagging comedy is nothing but doggone good fun and a celebration of family -- both human and canine!

This film hits all it's marks........2007-06-30
Almost as interesting and entertaining as the film was reading the reviews. There are a lot of people making social judgements about the characters and I think they miss the whole point of the film. Disney set out to make a funny movie about a Miami dentist. It could have been a plumber from Omaha but a dentist is good too. They added enough detail to give the characters a little depth. Reviewers complain about the depth. Funny. The movie is about a man that is transported to an enviroment completly different for the comfort that he enjoyed in Miami. He learns and copes well and the funny parts mix well with the more dramatic parts. Disney has another winner. I agree with some reviewers that adults will probably enjoy it more than young kids.
Fun Movie.......2007-05-13
This movie was purchased so my grandkids would have a good movie to watch when they come to my house. Turns out that it is such a good movie and funny movie that I enjoy it as much or more than they do.
Pure fun.......2007-04-09
What with Iron Will and this film, 2002 was a good year for dog movies. Not doggy, but films with dog characters. And this one is a funny and engaging story that draws in children and grown ups alike---excepting anti-Disney fanatics.
I did have one gripe: As an adoptive mother, I object to hiding such an important fact about a child's origins. And this story hooks on a longstanding secret (read, lie) of the mother of Dr. Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr.)---namely that he was adopted.
Brooks, a successful Miami dentist, embarks for Alaska when his mother tells him the truth. There, he seeks information about his birth mother---who recently died---and comes into a pack of racing huskies, which learns to run from his birth father Thunder Jack (James Coburn). His introduction to them is pretty funny, and learning to handle them is about as big a challenge as learning to handle his "new" status as an adoptive son. Pure fun.
for a storyline like this, it should be more serious than just a comedy.......2007-02-25
to make this movie as a comedy from the start was a big mistake. cuba gooding jr. signed on to play this kind of role in such ridiculous funny movie is one of the living proof that oscar winners indeed are cursed. what a shame.
there are many good movies with those great dogs: eight below, white fang, iron will, the call of the wild....every one of them is far better than this snow dogs.
MY DAUGHTERS IN LOVE.......2007-01-10
My 4 yr old is obsessed with dogs she fell in love with this movie the first time she seen it. I had to get it for her. She watches it at least once per day if not more.
