Editorial Review:
Amazon.com essential video
Audrey Hepburn is the delightful young Sabrina, the daughter of a chauffeur who is hopelessly in love with David Larrabee (William Holden), the playboy younger son in the rich Long Island household her father works for. In order to help her forget her woes, Sabrina is shipped off to cooking school in Paris. While there, she befriends a baron who provides a bit of culture--and the encouragement to snip off her childlike ponytail. Upon her return to New York, Sabrina is transformed into a sophisticated woman, and David is entranced by her. However, his older brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) has arranged David's marriage to Elizabeth Tyson in order to seal a business merger and thus must steer David away from Sabrina. To do this, Linus takes on the task of wooing her for himself. Full of great dialogue ("A woman happy in love, she burns the soufflé; a woman unhappy in love, she forgets to turn on the oven") and wonderful performances, this film is a romantic masterpiece. Also enjoyable is the 1995 remake, starring Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford. --Jenny Brown

Excellent, just wonderful.......2007-06-25
If there's a movie about the Irish revolution and civil war, I've seen it. This is by far the best one I've seen. While being very modern in feel, it addresses many of the issues during the revolution and remains authentic to the time-setting. Just bring your tissues for this one.
Note: This is a decidedly Republican movie and should your sympathies lie in a more Unionist direction, you may not enjoy this one quite so much as I.
BLOOD, TEARS AND NO SWEET.......2007-05-29
Ken Loach's THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY won the Golden Palm of the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and many other distinctions in Europe. This film is another stone added to the cathedral erected to the memory of the thousands of civilians and soldiers killed in Ireland during the last century.
What stroke me the most in this movie, it's the feeling that, during the period described, elementary human rights were put aside because of something bigger than Man and his trivial circumstances. I have the same feeling when I happen to read a book about the French Revolution. How many men of good will have to die before the revolution is over ? Ken Loach manages to render this impression with his usual skill. However I would have liked to hear the British point of view in this tragic demonstration.
A DVD zone History.
An ambitious, yet earnest, failure.......2007-05-21
The struggle for Ireland to be free of British control has been going on for an awfully long time. I do not pretend to be conversant or even barely knowledgeable of its twists, turns, reversals and rekindlings. This movie attempts to depict the events from about 1920 to 1922 through the eyes of a small band of IRA men and women.
In truth, the movie is less a historical depiction than a condensation - almost to the point of allegory - of the issues that gripped the country during this period. The film does this by focusing on a pair of brothers - Damien and Teddy Donovan. As the film starts, Damien is planning to travel to England for his medical training. But the brutality of the British "Black and Tans" soon radicalizes him, and he joins with his brother to drive out the English and restore native rule to his land. After the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921, found unacceptable by some for not completely ridding Ireland of the Brits, the former fighters find themselves fighting each other. Teddy accepts the treaty and joins the Irish homeland army while Damien opposes the treaty, setting the stage for tragedy.
The filmmakers made some interesting, curious, and not altogether successful choices. By focusing on a relatively small part of the country, and a very small number of actors, they made the story more manageable, but also robbed it of its context. We see exactly one starving child and are told (not shown) that there are tens of thousands more. The same family homestead is attacked over and over, almost to the point of ludicrousness. Also, the filmmakers decided to let their actors speak in a brogue so thick that I did not realize that Teddy and Damien were brothers until well into the second half of the film. My teenage son never perceived this crucial fact until after the film was over. The decision to let the actors adlib some of their lines should have lent verisimilitude to the angry exchanges that peppered the film. But listening to the actors stumble over their lines was a distraction, not a way to increase the sense of reality. And unless one was minimally conversant with the personalities and facts around Ireland's struggle for independence, many of the scenes did not make sense.
There was a curious languor about the film - a lack of passion that should have inhabited its core. In an example scene, a priest at Mass is angrily urging his parishioners to accept the peace treaty, threatening excommunication upon those who refuse. Damien "angrily" talks back to his pastor, and walks out of Mass accompanied by a dozen or more of his supporters. But they move away from church like they are on a summer walk, with their fires completely banked, their challenge to the [...] of the Church making barely an emotional ripple. Not enough was done to set a historical context for the existence of British soldiers in Ireland. Sure, the Black and Tans were nasty, but what were they doing in Ireland in the first place?
The film did do some good. For those (like me) who do not understand the Irish war and the origin of the IRA, this film provided basic information and made me somewhat sympathetic to these men and women who wanted to be rid of foreign occupiers. The lighting was superb, capturing the gloomy dankness of a prison cell and the crepuscular lighting of a pre-dawn attack. The violence was especially well-done, almost too much to watch in parts. The film also has to be lauded for attempting to portray the bind that so many Irish found themselves in - conflicted over whether to accept an imperfect peace, or to launch a bloody and unending civil war until compete independence was achieved.
Taken as a whole, "The Wind that Shakes the Barley" is a noble failure - a film that could not capture the large-scale story and left too much passion out of its small-scale facsimile. But perhaps that's a function of the missing dialog. Skip this in theaters, and either buy it or rent it as long as you can run it with subtitles.
Tragic, even for a story about Ireland........2007-05-17
I just came back from seeing it with a friend. It was beautiful and sad. The accents could be a bit difficult to understand sometimes, but it is after all an Irish movie, so it makes sense, and only made it more lovely. Watching it the first time around with subtitles might be a good idea, because while you start to get used to the accents and can understand them better towards the middle of the movie, I did miss some things at the beginning. Personally, I just plan on buying it and watching it over and over.
A brutal, sad, powerful film of the Irish rebellion against the British, and the civil war that followed.......2007-05-14
Ireland in the early Twenties exploded into armed rebellion against the British. Two brothers at first made opposite decisions. A group of Black and Tan British soldiers arrive at a farm where the brothers and a group of other young men are resting after a hurling game (something like field hockey). The British terrorize everyone there, the men, the women, the aged and the young. They beat and kill one man for refusing to give his name in English. When they roar off, one brother, Teddy (Padraic Delaney), immediately helps form the men into armed resistors. Damien (Cillian Murphy), a medical student, decides to go on to London to a prestigious medical school where he is enrolled to finish his studies. At the train station he witnesses another group of soldiers attack and beat the train's conductor and engineer. The attacks are filled with screams and rifle butts. Damien returns to the village and joins the armed resistors.
From then on we're in the middle of a rag-tag guerilla war, driven by a stern sense of justice and a determination to force the British out of Ireland. The British use wide-spread intimidation, brutality, imprisonment and executions by courts martial. Some of the men we've met die, British soldiers die, hostages die, traitors die, a young friend of Damien's who gave information is executed by Damien. He slowly moves from a reluctant fighter to a man who has become single-minded in what he does. When a truce is declared and a peace treaty is finally agreed upon in 1922 between the British Government and Sinn Fein, the stark reality of compromise splits the fighters. On the one hand, there will be an Irish Free State with British troops withdrawn. On the other hand, it will be a member of the British Commonwealth, an oath of allegiance to the British crown will be required and Northern Ireland will remain an integral part of Britain. Is this what we fought for...to give allegiance to the British, many ask? What we fought for was independence and in most regards we have it, say others. Ireland must be whole, say some. If we don't agree the British will flood the island with their troops, say others. We watch a civil war begin, with Irishmen taking up arms and killing each other. For the brothers, who once fought the British together, it means a crucial split. One fights to put down the rebellion against the newly independent Irish state, the other vows to fight until all Ireland is completely free.
One critic of the film said that "there isn't much nuance to either side." That's probably because, nurtured by terrible actions and long memories, there wasn't much nuance in real life. The Wind That Shapes the Barley is a sad, powerful and emotional film. It doesn't shy away from the brutality and torture by British soldiers or the ruthlessness of the armed response. Most of all, we come face to face with both the courage and the grime needed by the Irish to finally, after centuries of ruthless, condescending oppression, rid most of the island of the British. The acting is uniformly persuasive, especially by Murphy and Delaney as the two brothers. Cillian Murphy, in particular gives a subtle and mesmerizing performance. The brothers' fate may not be tragic but it is so sad it makes you reflect on what you've seen. That's not a bad thing. Each brother in his own way pays for the choices he makes.
And the title? It's from a 19th Century poem that tells of a young Irish boy who soon will leave his sweetheart to join others fighting the English in the 1798 rebellion. They would carry barley in their pockets as provisions on the march. When they were slain and their bodies pitched into unmarked mass graves by the English, from their bodies the sprouting barley came to symbolise that Irish resistance to the British would never die.
I sat within the valley green, I sat me with my true love
My sad heart strove the two between, the old love and the new love
The old for her, the new that made me think on Ireland dearly
While soft the wind blew down the glen and shook the golden barley
'Twas hard the woeful words to frame to break the ties that bound us
But harder still to bear the shame of foreign chains around us
And so I said, "The mountain glen I'll seek at morning early
And join the bold united men," while soft winds shake the barley
While sad I kissed away her tears, my fond arms round her flinging
A yeoman's shot burst on our ears from out the wildwood ringing
A bullet pierced my true love's side in life's young spring so early
And on my breast in blood she died while soft winds shook the barley
I bore her to some mountain stream, and many's the summer blossom
I placed with branches soft and green about her gore-stained bosom
I wept and kissed her clay-cold corpse then rushed o'er vale and valley
My vengeance on the foe to wreak while soft wind shook the barley
But blood for blood without remorse I've taken at Oulart Hollow
And laid my true love's clay cold corpse where I full soon may follow
As round her grave I wander drear, noon, night and morning early
With breaking heart when e'er I hear the wind that shakes the barley.

Julia Ormond faced one of the great challenges of her career when she tried to re-create Audrey Hepburn's title role in the 1995 remake of 1954's Sabrina. Happily, Ormond performed admirably, and while she may not have the same gamine charm of Hepburn, she makes the role her own. In fact, her transformation from mousy girl to sophisticated young woman is actually more dramatic in this updated version. The basic plot is the same--chauffeur's daughter falls in love with the son of the rich household, only to be wooed away by the older brother for business purposes--but it has been entertainingly modernized: The head of the Larrabee household is the strong matriarch (Nancy Marchand); Sabrina goes to Paris to work with a photographer instead of going to cooking school (although that means the wonderful "new egg" scene of the original had to be ditched); David's (Greg Kinnear) character has been toned down and made more sympathetic; and Humphrey Bogart's revolutionary plastic has become the flattest TV screen ever made. Lauren Holly does a fine job playing Elizabeth Tyson, David's fiancée. If you watch this for its own worth--instead of comparing it to the original--this will prove to be a terrific lighthearted romantic comedy. --Jenny Brown
Customer Reviews:
Sabrina - Harrison Ford.......2007-06-27
A solidly enjoyable mushy romance. Nice update in that the Sabrina charactor was a much more substantial human being.
Good...........2007-06-16
...but not as good as the original. I think everyone did a great job in it and you will enjoy it.
The reason I went to Paris...........2007-05-29
I love, love, love this movie. Julia is beautiful and Harrison does an amazing job, far from his usual role of treasure hunter. If this remake doesn't get you then the music will, it is a romantic shiny movie and I cry every time I watch it. Yes, I am a girlie girl. Then their Sting, ahhhh, "In the Moonlight."
I heart this movie.
second version.......2007-05-28
Wanted this copy which I keep with the older version of Sabrina played with Humpry Bogart and they are both extremely good like to compare both copies at times.
A new Classic........2007-04-25
Unfortunately, I have not seen the classic version of this movie yet. In fact, I didn't even know it was a re-make.
It's an early 90's rags to riches, love story. Like Pretty Woman without the hooker part. I feel that Julia Ormond had terrific chemistry with Harrison Ford. It even made me have little flutters when I anticipated a kiss.
I love this movie!

This kinky love story features a standout performance by Maggie Gyllenhaal, an offbeat young actress in her first starring role. Gyllenhaal plays Lee, a nervous girl who compulsively cuts herself, who gets a job as a secretary for Edward, an imperious lawyer (James Spader, an old hand at tales of perverse affection). Edward's reprimands for typos and spelling errors begin with mild humiliation, but as Lee responds to his orders--which are driven as much by his own anxieties and fears as any sense of order--the punishments escalate to spankings, shackles, and more. Secretary walks a fine line. It finds sly humor in these sadomasochistic doings without turning them into a gag, and it takes Lee and Edward's mutual desires seriously without getting self-righteous or pompous. Certainly not a movie for everyone, but some people may be unexpectedly stirred up by this smart and steamy tale of repressed passion. --Bret Fetzer

not softcore not good enuf for TV.......2007-06-14
DON'T BE DECEIVED BY THE COVER - NO STOCKINGS, NO HEELS. ONE BRIEF SPANKING SCENE (no flesh included) is the highlight of the film. Perhaps lifestylers would get nostalgic about this story, but for the curious weekend thrill seeker this DVD is sure to disappoint, if not get you 'shut out'. Definitely not a couples movie unless your lady is VERY much into BDSM, in which case this would only be a 101 level course if not a grade school primer. Don't judge a DVD by its cover!!
Someone needs a spanking.......2007-06-07
James Spader must be one truly sexually disturbed man. Most of his work seems to revolve around men whose proclivities are far from healthy. From Crash to Sex, Lies, and Videotape, James Spader seeks out sexual encounters that are distant, shallow, and self-destructive as well as demeaning. He continues in good form here in a rather entertaining piece on sado-masochism. Sexual harassment be damned!
My Favourite Film ;}.......2007-05-26
This is my favourite film of all time. A perfectly dark comedy and strange fairy tale romance rolled into one, "Secretary" shocked and enraptured me from the start. I couldn't ask for a more captivating storyline, carefully written script, complete character development, or perfectly executed performances! You MUST see this film... ;}
A new love story with a fun twist..........2007-05-06
Quirky, kinky, sensual, beautiful and fun!
James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal both have wonderful performances! Steven Shainberg put together a great film with more substance then may be expected from a love story. That said, be warned that if you are uncomfortable with the idea of bdsm being anything other then a sickness then "keep on walking" because this is not a movie for you.
One of the things I liked most was the depth of character development. Gyllenhaal and Spader had fantastic chemistry and were able to pack so much emotion and communication in to simple expressions and gestures. I can't say enough good things about the work they have done here.
As for the story, I LOVE IT! Both Mr. Grey (Spader) and Lee (Gyllenhaal) start out in dark places. Lee is drifting in life and has taken to cutting herself. Mr. Grey is alone and disgusted with himself. Both struggle with "unnatural" feelings and a sense of detachment, they just don't feel normal. By the end they have learned that it is OK not to be normal so long as you are who and what you are. They fine that together they are complete. A very satisfying ending!
This movie is for the wild at heart.......2007-04-11
This is a movie that is not for everyone. It is rich in emotions and goes way beyound some people's comfort levels. But I enjoyed it because there was a such an amazing finale that shouted originality. The 2 stars are perfect together and you totally want them to end up together. Maggie takes a job as a secretary- she has extreme self esteem problems and was just released from an institution. She starts working for Spader and he goes completely nuts when she makes even the most trivial mistakes and starts his own form of wierd erotic punishment. Most people would freak out but she starts to want it- and thus we have the start of a beautiful relationship full of wierdness. This is a love story and it is one of my faves because it is just soo different and lovely.
If you are a fan of James Spader then you should totally see this, and if you haven't seen Maggie Gyllenhaal you NEED to see this. I left this movie wanting to see it again and again.

Looking back at season 1 of The Cosby Show, it's easy to forget that momentous history was being made. Not only did this immensely popular sitcom hold the #1 spot among all network TV shows for five consecutive seasons (a record that still stands), but it promoted an evolutionary progression that influenced the entire TV industry from that point forward. African Americans had enjoyed sitcom success in the past (on Julia, The Jeffersons, and Good Times), but the idealized family of Cliff and Clair Huxtable (Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad) represented a new and quietly revolutionary perspective; married for 21 years with five children (one in college, a detail unmentioned in the pilot episode), the Huxtables were happy and successful (he's a doctor, she's a lawyer), and issues of race were almost entirely irrelevant to the show's universal appeal. Making their Thursday-night debut on September 20, 1984, they were conceived by Cosby (as "executive consultant Dr. William H. Cosby Jr., Ed.D."), cocreators Ed. Weinberger and Michael Leeson, and executive producers Tom Werner and Marcy Carsey, with a matter-of-fact approach to upgrading the African American image, built upon Cosby's rubber-faced popularity as a stand-up comedian and rooted in the complete and unbiased integration of the black experience into the American mainstream. More to the point, The Cosby Show was eminently respectable family entertainment, perhaps too squeaky-clean for some tastes, but immediately popular at a time when Eddie Murphy (in Beverly Hills Cop) was honing a more profane image that Cosby disapproved of.
The show was also perfectly cast for mass appeal, from the irresistible precociousness of Keshia Knight Pulliam (as the youngest and most charming Huxtable daughter, Rudy) to the stylish adolescence of Lisa Bonet (years before her controversial role in Angel Heart) as 16-year-old Denise; Malcolm-Jamal Warner as outspoken teenager Theo; Tempestt Bledsoe as sensible younger daughter Vanessa; and Sabrina LaBeauf as college student and eventual mother of twins, Sondra. Combined with the effortless chemistry of Cosby and Rashad (credited in Season 1 as Phylicia Ayers Allen), the entire cast forged an easygoing, loosely-rehearsed dynamic that was genuinely familial.
Given The Cosby Show's immense popularity, it's deeply regrettable that the exorbitant cost of original music rights resulted in this DVD release of edited episodes that were shortened, with different music cues added, for perpetual syndication. Fans eager to see the original NBC broadcasts were understandably outraged, and this shortcoming should be addressed in DVD releases of subsequent seasons. In truth, the episodes (including "Goodbye, Mr. Fish," a perfect example of the show's universal appeal) are not significantly diminished by the careful editing; for casual fans, the difference is barely worth mentioning. And while the 90-minute bonus feature "The Cosby Show: A Look Back" (a clip show originally broadcast May 19, 2002) suffers from the conspicuous absence of Bonet (who by then had mostly retreated from show business), it duly conveys the long-term value (and moral values) of the series, which singlehandedly restored the fortunes of NBC while embracing familial togetherness that would inform many of the popular sitcoms that followed its noble example. --Jeff Shannon
Description
The Cosby Show depicted a close-knit and prosperous African-American family from New York City. Dr. Heathcliff (OB-GYN) and Clair (attorney) Huxtable were a happily married, dual-profession couple with aspirations of raising their 5 children in an uplifting, positive environment. The Cosby Show appeared on NBC from 1984 to 1992, becoming one of the most popular programs in TV history. It was an instant smash hit, holding TV's #1 slot for a record 5 consecutive years and stayed in the Top 20 shows for all eight seasons it was on NBC.

THE GREATEST THING EVER!!!.......2007-05-30
Wonderful Family Entertainment!!! Something that you'll never want to stop watching!!! I read some of the bad reviews and it says that don't buy it because it's cut. It's wonderful and it's nonsense not to buy it at all because of a few things that are cut. Anyways, I love it and whenever I know we are going to watch it, it brings a smile upon my face.
Cosby is still great.......2007-05-25
I grew up watching The Cosby Show. After purchasing the DVD set I find myself back in the mid 80's...but with a child of my own I now have a new appreciation for Dr. Huxtable's fatherly ways. Wholesome entertainment for the ENTIRE family.
The Cosby Show - Season 1.......2007-05-12
Brought the DVD for my daughter for her birthday and she loves it.
Cosby Show Season 1.......2007-04-10
This item was wonderful. I have watch the videos many times. I am very satisfied with my order and how quick it was shipped. I will definently order again from amazon in the future.
GREAT show, LOUSY DVD set.......2007-03-08
As other reviewers here have already stated, all the shows on this DVD set are the syndicated edited versions. While the cut scenes really don't take away from the overall plot, it is totally illogical for a DVD set to cut parts out of an episode. Why? There are no commercials! Beware before you buy! It's a shame they had to mangle such a GREAT TV series.

Amazon.com essential video
This box-office hit from 1969 is an important pioneer of the American independent cinema movement, and a generational touchstone to boot. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper play hippie motorcyclists crossing the Southwest and encountering a crazy quilt of good and bad people. Jack Nicholson turns up in a significant role as an attorney who joins their quest for awhile and articulates society's problem with freedom as Fonda's and Hopper's characters embody it. Hopper directed, essentially bringing the no-frills filmmaking methods of legendary, drive-in movie producer Roger Corman (The Little Shop of Horrors) to a serious feature for the mainstream. The film can't help but look a bit dated now (a psychedelic sequence toward the end particularly doesn't hold up well), but it retains its original power, sense of daring, and epochal impact. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Easy Rider.......2007-06-27
This film represents myself, and my generation from the early 60's. I understand and identify with it it completely. Sometimes those timess become a little fuzzy in my memory, but a film like this brings it all back. It was actually made during that time also, with actors in it who truly felt their parts. Whenever I feel like like revisiting my 60's adventures, I watch this movie.
You'll either love it, or hate it. .......2007-05-11
This film is wildly popular with a certain type of person, but it's just as easy to find "that" other type of person who can't stand Easy Rider and see nothing positive about it. After watching this film, you will no doubt have realized that there was two main kinds of characters in this story. One was the character that was open minded, tolerant, and accepting of the world. The other type of character was hateful, close-minded, violent, and very scared of character number one and all the things that those kind of characters represent.
First off, this is what today we would call an independent film. This movie was very renegade when it came out in the market. This particular DVD has a documentary called "Shaking the Cage" inside the extras sub menu. Great documentary, and the title says it all. Hopper and Fonda showed classic American balls by making this movie, and making it in the manner they did. Can you tell whose side I'm on yet?
The photography is amazing. All of the road shots in this movie are stunning to look at, and the locations throughout the film are real, gritty, and distinctive. I imagine that even if this film would have had a huge budget, it still would have appeared to be very raw. Hopper obviously wasn't making a fantasy movie here, he crafted a very real story and placed it in the real world. This is a film that is intended to get the audience thinking, get them asking questions, and yes, probably make you a little angry. The activism that was born and raised in the 60's is still there in Hopper and Fonda's creation. These two men have always been involved in what has been called the "counter-culture" movement, and I guess this film is what made them household names for doing so.
Awesome soundtrack as well, and how could there not be. I own the double CD of this film's soundtrack, and it's just beautiful music to listen to. Again, listening to it makes me think, and it makes me ask questions about my country and my world. In my opinion, anyone who considers themselves a truly free U.S. citizen should be a thinker, and should always have a little skeptic sitting on their shoulder asking questions about what is going on in the world around them.
I think this film will stand the test of time as not only an entertaining film, but a fairly accurate historical document that covers a very turbulent and important time in our nation's social history. If for no other reason than to take a glimpse into the late 60's to early 70's, this film is worth watching. You will no doubt find yourself clearly on one side of the fence or the other about Easy Rider, there is no fence sitting. If you like it, it's brilliant, but if you hate it, it's boring hippie garbage. It is what it is.
enjoyed.......2007-04-06

Great uncomplicated movie and nice to just sit back relax and watch somthing that wasnt to complicated
the real 60s.......2007-01-06
This movie is offensive in the same way that any movie that is truly about hippies would have to be. What that meens is this movie does not consist of the typical slapstick hippie stereo type that we usually get in stupid cartoons. This shows hippies for what they are, degenerates, and at the same time it demonizes the south. For a hippie, this movie would seem to be a moral statement, but to me it just seems to show how awful people can be. Shame on hippies for being , lazy, pot smoking, anti-establishment degenerates. But shame on the south too, for being filled with such hatred. But while I'm sure there are some people in the south that would have no problem shooting hipppies on spot for no apparent reason other than that they looked funny, I can't help but feel that the south were exagerated to certain extent. In conclusion though, this movie was enjoyable . I don't know why, but it was. I guess its just a very amusing look into the late 60s (something thats usually sugarcoated)from the "other side" lol. i would like to rate it higher, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
P.S. That hippie commune was kind of sad. The adults were running around actin irresponsible while the kids were just generally unhappy without any real parent figures.

Product Description
Sabrina is charming, humorous and aglow with some of Hollywood's greatest stars. Humphrey Bogart, William Holden and Audrey Hepburn star in a Cinderella stroy directed by renowned filmmaker Billy Wilder (Sunset Boulevard, Some Like It Hot). Bogie and Holden are the mega-rich Larrabee brothers of Long Island. Bogie's all work, Holden's all playboy. But when Sabrina, daughter of the family's chauffer, returns from Paris all grown up and glamourous, the stage is set for some family fireworks as the brothers fall under the spell of Hepburn's delightful charms.
Customer Reviews:
Sabrina.......2007-06-26
Perfectly suited to high-brow romantic comedies, Hepburn blossoms before our eyes as the world's most cultivated chauffeur's daughter in Billy Wilder's delightful "Sabrina." The young star smoothly makes the transition from a skinny awkward girl who fantasizes about life among the privileged classes to the stunning and sophisticated object of desire for both handsome Holden and the more mature Bogart, who, like most any other man, just can't help himself. "Sabrina" is infectious, effervescent comedy, done the Wilder way.
Paris when it rains..........2007-06-21
I want to go to Paris with Linus. No seriouly this was a really sweet movie that I have seen at least fifteen times or more and never get bored. Love William Holden and Audrey Hepburn together. Read somewhere that Billy Wilder was wanting Cary Grant for the role of Linus, would of been interesting. Love Bogie too...I thought this was way better than the remake with Harrison Ford but I guess that is if you like old movies compared to the newer one I much rather see a classic..If you haven't seen this you really need to check this one out you won't be disappointed.
Sabrina.......2007-06-09
The clarity of image and sharpness of the black and white production take this beautiful classic to the excellent level it so deserves.
TIMELESS.......2007-06-02
I have enjoyed this film since I first saw it on network tv over 40 years ago. Over the ensuing years I've read and heard about the on-set tension between Bogie and Audrey but I've never seen anything suggesting it in the film. All of the cast are excellent, the set design and script and direction as well. As for Bogie being mis-cast as a Wall Street tycoon, a type he supposedly despised, being the pro that he was you'd never know it. I think the casting was inspired. If Cary Grant had played the part, the ending would have been far less inspired - more predictable. His looks and charm were that irresistable to women of all ages - ending up with Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren in contemporary films. Bogie's tough, hardened exterior serves the character well - you can easily believe he hasn't been involved with anyone in years. There's a funny uncertainty about the standing on the ledge story he tells her. Is it merely pretense to gain her sympathy for him as an older lonely guy, or is it in large part the truth? I don't think we'd believe any of it from Grant. Grant usually ran away from women in his films or at least discouraged them as best he could as in Charade. I'll never forget the ending where Holden forces him to confront his love for Audrey while her ship is sailing outside the board-room window and his commandeering a tug to make their rendezvous afterall. It shows that having great wealth and power can insure that love makes the world go around.
Sabrina.......2007-05-13
Many thanks for fullfilling my hearts desire to own both versions of this fabulous story, a modern day Cinderella saga, and with two marvelous actors as the hero. Who could be better than Humphrey Bogart and Harrison Ford? The story line is fantabulous along with the answered prayers of a misty eyed teen-aged girl of sixteen. When I first saw this movie, I wished to own my own copy but that was impossible then. Now by all our marvelous electronic equipment I not only own two VHS copies, but also the DVD copies. No woman should be without these movies, to watch and cherish in her old age. Thank you for your prompt service and delivery. Patricia A. Adams

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Winner of two Oscars, the romantic comedy that sparkles like diamonds! From the opening strains of Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer's haunting, Oscar-winning song "Moon River," you'll once again be under the alluring spell of that madcap, carefree New York playgirl known as Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) in this 24-carat romantic comedy based of Truman Capote's best-selling novella. George Peppard is the struggling and "sponsored" young writer who finds himself swept into Holly's dizzying, delightfully unstructured lifestyle as she determinedly scours Manhattan for a suitable millionaire to marry. The sparkling special features on this Anniversary Edition DVD only add to the luster of director Blake Edwards' timeless film classic. Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen, Martin Balsam and Mickey Rooney co-star; Mancini won an additional Academy Award® for his enthralling musical score.

what can you say about Breakfast at Tiffany's that has not already been said.... From listening to Audrey strum "Moon River" on the balcony to the day she spends with George Peppard in the city getting the ring from the cracker jack box engraved - how could you not fall in love with her....

Being a teenager is always difficult, but imagine how complicated things must be for a teenage witch trying to fit in at a mortal high school. In this first (1996) season of CBS Television's live-action Sabrina The Teenage Witch series, Sabrina's aunts Zelda and Hilda have provided their niece with a happy, relatively normal life following the divorce of her parents, but her 16th birthday brings a big surprise--it turns out that her aunts are witches who have known all along that Sabrina is half mortal and half witch. Now that she's turning 16, Sabrina suddenly finds herself in the possession of special powers which she must develop and learn to control. Even Sabrina's cat Salem turns out to be a witch imprisoned in a cat's body. After the initial shock and denial wear off, Sabrina discovers that there are some definite benefits to being able to turn back time and cast the occasional spell on her classmates. Essentially your typical teenager, Sabrina struggles with popularity, labels, and love along a journey toward personal growth and an understanding of the value of rules, the importance of self-esteem, and the universality of guilt and making mistakes. Sometimes magic eases Sabrina's way, while other times it seems only to complicate things. Whether hanging out in the world of high school and American suburbia, the red planet Mars, or the surreal Pleasure dome where a witch can have absolutely anything she wants, Sabrina is really just an average teenage witch struggling through adolescence. (Ages 8 and older) --Tami Horiuchi
Description
When Sabrina Spellman is informed by her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, that she is a witch on her 16th birthday, she is hesitant to believe them. Having been sent to live with them in Massachusetts by her Warlock father and mortal mother, Sabrina learns the tricks of magic in order to receive her witch's license. Along the way, she gets into many scrapes while figuring out how certain spells work. She also has to keep the secret from her boyfriend, Harvey, friends Jenny and later Valerie, stuck-up nemesis Libby, and her ever-suspicious vice-principal, Mr. Kraft.
Customer Reviews:
Sabrina the "Feel-Good" Teenage Witch.......2007-06-12
There are very few "feel-good" TV shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
It's episodes are timeless and will find enjoyment at any generation level.
It also helps that Melissa Joan Hart was made for the part. That is the reason that the show lasted for 7 seasons.
It could have gone on forever if it weren't for the fact that the TV series could not make the transition to Sabrina the Adult-age Witch to accomodate the grown-up Melissa. This series will always be remembered about a witch and her surrounding teenage environment.
Archie Comics hated this series...........2007-06-05
It perhaps did not help things when Hart and the show's writers turned this into a show with more blue jokes and suggestive content humor, something that might have earned rateings, but Archie Comics (who owns the Sabrina Character) did not. They openly stated in the press that they did not like what show did to their character and did everything they could eventually get it off the air, and I think they were somewhat successful. None of their comics readers ever openly said that they watched it, and since then Archie Comics has not actively done anymore business about putting their characters on live action Tv or film.
Good ole' TGIF!!.......2007-05-19
This was my favorite TV show back in the Golden Age of Friday night television. A place where kids and adults alike could sit in front of the TV and laugh the evening away.
Hart plays a sixteen year old girl who finds out from her eccentric aunts that she's a witch. So, armed with the task of learning her magic and being a "normal" teenager at the same time, she has many adventures and blunders but it's a blast watching them!
Season 2... hurry!!

The hot girl rock group The Cheetah Girls is about to discover just how important dreams and true friendship are as they head to Barcelona for an exciting summer vacation. When Chanel's (Adrienne Bailon) mother announces a trip to Barcelona to meet her current boyfriend's family, Chanel is distraught at being separated from the Cheetah Girls for the summer and worries that her mother may decide to move to Barcelona permanently. Galleria (Raven-Symoné) soon cooks up a plan that lands all of the Cheetah girls in Barcelona for a music festival, but once there, the girls' individual interests in music, dance, fashion design and even romance sweep them in so many different directions that there's little time for rehearsing together. Add in some very real competition from Barcelona's favorite upcoming singer Marisol (Belinda Peregrin) and her conniving mother and a lack of familiarity with the music festival rules, and the Cheetah Girls chances of winning the contest begin to fade. Galleria soon realizes that she must let each of her friends go in the direction their dreams take them, even if it means the end of the Cheetah Girls. In the end, all the girls learn a vital lesson about the importance of tolerance, friendship, and dreams. This production is bursting with tight music and awesome dance segments choreographed by High School Musical's choreographer Kenny Ortega. Bonus features include a sing-along version of the movie, the music video "Dance With Me" performed by Drew Seeley featuring Belinda, and tips from the Cheetah Girls on how to be "Cheetah-licious" in everything from fashion and makeup to friendship and diversity. (Ages 8 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
Cheetahlicious.......2007-05-16
This Disney Channel Original Movie was and still is absolutely great, I really enjoyed this. I especially enjoyed their performances of Party's Just Begun, Strut, It's Over, Step Up and Amigas Cheetahs.
I think it is better than the first movie. Galleria (Raven), Chanel (Adrienne), Dorinda (Sabrina) and Aqua (Kiely) all return in this cheetahlicious sequel, an absolute favourite, yet when they go to Barcelona, Spain, they are in some trouble as a plot is trying to break the divas apart.
GREAT MOVIE.......2007-05-15
MY DAUGHTER IS 7 AND WATCHES THIS ALL THE TIME, SHE LOVES TO SING AND DANCE TO IT. GREAT GROUP FOR YOUNG GIRLS. POSITIVE ROLE MODELS.
An awsome movie.......2007-04-05
This movie is as the Cheetahs would say CHEETAH-LICIOUS. It has messages in it and well I better lay out the storyline.
Chanel finds out she is going to have to go to Barcolona Spain with her mother to vist Luc. She is not happy but the Cheetahs find an ad for a music festival and end up in Barcolona. They find new romances with Dorinda and Jacqin a Spainsh dancer. And New dreams Aqua finds a love for fashion designing. And of course new friends Chanel befriends a spainsh singer Marisol. They do get distracted but in the end can they sort it out.
This is an excelent movie and is good for the whole family
A great film with music, SPAIN, and more!.......2007-03-29
This movie The Cheetah Girls 2 is amazing. It features great acting, also the beautiful star of Disney's That's So Raven, Raven-Symone Pearman. The movie starts off in New York City's Performance hall, then a couple minutes later your in Barcelona, Spain. Where it features very many artifacts, and culture. Also some Spanish, and Spanish inspired music. Dont worry 1 of 13 songs in this movie is only Spanish, the rest is english. I love this movie, I watch it like every other day. I would have to say it is better than High School Musical, acting, music, and directed wise. You should definitely buy this amazing DVD/movie!
Better than expected!!!.......2007-01-27
