Product Description
The Griswolds have planned all year for a great summer vacation. From their suburban Chicago home, across America, to the wonders of Wally World fun park in California, every step of the way has been carefully plotted. Except a few hundred hysterical exceptions.

National Lampoon's Vacation is a sublimely goofy comedy, thanks largely to Chevy Chase in his signature role of Clark Griswold. The inept but sincere Clark takes misfortune in stride. So what if they lose all their money when their new car gets wrecked. And it's not too bad when Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) deposits sour Aunt Edna (Imogene Coca) in their back seat for a lift to Phoenix. But what really keeps Clark's eyes on the road is a flirtation with a mysterious blonde (Christie Brinkley) in a red Ferrari.

For those along on the ride, National Lampoon's Vacation, called "fast, funny satire" by The New York Times' Janet Maslin, is a jolly jaunt.

Vacation paved the way for the John Hughes movie dynasty of the 1980s. Written by Hughes (who would go on to write, direct, and/or produce The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, and so on) and directed by Harold Ramis (Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, Stuart Saves His Family), the first Vacation movie introduces us to the all-American Griswold family: father Clark (Chevy Chase), mother Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), son Rusty (future Hughes staple Anthony Michael Hall), and daughter Audrey (Dana Barron). They all pile into the car for a cross-country road trip to Walley World, stopping along the way to view the world's biggest ball of twine. John Candy, Imogene Coca, and Randy Quaid (as yokel Cousin Eddie) pop up along the way. The movie was a big hit, and was followed by several sequels--National Lampoon's European Vacation, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation--but this one is still probably the freshest and funniest of the bunch. --Jim Emerson

You know exactly what you're getting in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: another goofball, slapstick comedy of chaos and catastrophe with Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and family. This time, there's no traveling involved: Clark and Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo) prepare for a nice Christmas with the kids (played by none other than Juliette Lewis and Roseanne star Johnny Galecki), when their home is invaded by backwoods cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) and his brood, along with assorted other crazy and/or stuffy relatives. Complications, of course, are inevitable. The film is preceded by National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) and National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985) and followed by National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation (1997). Directed by Jeremiah Chechik, who went on to do Benny & Joon and the Sharon Stone remake of Diabolique. --Jim Emerson

Great fun family movie. Highly recommend for your collection! Can watch it again and again and it is still funny.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas Vacation -5 stars.......2007-05-25

I love this movie. I watch even when it's not Christmas. Chevy Chase's performance as Clark Griswold is hillarious. I can't get enough. I also love Randy Quaid as Eddie. He is disgusting yet, very, very, very funny.

5 out of 5 stars Clark, that there is an R.V. . ........2007-05-11

But don't you go falling in love with it, 'cause we're taking it with us when we leave here next month.

Ha ha!

I rank this movie up there with Airplane!, Caddyshack, The Jerk. . .a classic.

Clark W. Griswold and clan keep it rolling with hilarious sight gags and situations throughout the movie. It never slows down. Brief moments of sentimentality are continually destroyed by members outside the Griswold nuclear family. And oh is it fun!

Randy Quaid as the obnoxious, dickie-wearing, totally inappropriate, Capital moron Cousin Eddie is one of the funniest performances on film.

It's my favorite Christmas movie ever. It could be yours, too.

Remember, sometimes it is fully warranted to punch a plastic Santa Claus in the face and kick him into the neighbor's yard. We've all been there :)

5 out of 5 stars JMarshall.......2007-05-06

This movie is so funny and it makes me laugh more each time I see it. I now have a tradition every Christmas to see this movie. I never get tired of seeing it every year and look forward to it. Chevy Chase has always been one of my favorite movie stars.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Vacation Movie(?).......2007-04-10

This movie vies with the original National Lampoon's Vacation as the best in the series. Certainly this is a great addition to any comedy-lover's DVD collection. It comes in the modern-style cardboard DVD-box, not a plastic one, but this is my only criticism. The DVD plays very well and the movie is superb. If you love great comedy films, buy this one now!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Early John Hughes hasn't aged well........2007-02-27

"Vacation" was a film that needed to be made for all of us Americans. That having been said, it's essentially a belabored one-joke movie. And suffering through Chevy Chase only gets more annoying with each subsequent episode. What may have seemed hilarious in 1983 (his yelling out the F word repeatedly), doesn't quite have the same impact 25 years later. Hughes would use the same joke in a similar, much funnier movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles."

The real star of the film is Anthony Michael Hall. He outshines Chevy Chase in each of their shared scenes and his delivery is perfect. It is interesting to watch him before his career exploded in the next 2-3 years.

Review Note: This review is based on the VHS tape.

Classic comedy, Chevy Chase style. This was and is to this day, a comedy classic. One of the funniest! My brother and I, and numerous friends still quote off lines from this movie, on a regular basis.

Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Nothing Special about Special Edition.......2006-08-22

(This is a review of the DVD itself, not the movie.)

Not sure why they decided to release a "special edition." Really the only thing extra is the commentary, which is too busy because they have at least 4 or 5 people making comments. Not nearly as good as Chevy Chase by himself on the "European Vacation" DVD. Also, the video is a bit jumpy and seems low-quality, as if it were transferred from VHS. Sound is excellent however.

Worth it just for the movie itself, but really there's not too much extra.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best!!.......2006-08-11

Hands down, one of the best comedies of the 80's. Chevy was at his best and director Harold Ramis was on a role. (Caddyshack and Stripes.)
Many cuts and versions are out there but the truest I've seen, so far, is the anniversary edition. It's in widescreen (I've heard matted/cropped,not sure, but??), nice 5.1 mix, some decent special features but where are all those deleted scenes and the alternate ending?
Plus, a big [..] I have. "I'm so exited" was the song played when Christie Brinkley pulls along side Chevy(Clark Griswald) in the original. Why, still is "Little boy sweet" a song also by the Pointer Sisters used instead?? Both songs were used in the movie. The latter in the truckstop sceen where Chevy eats the pissed on sandwhich.
Is the copyright on that song that expensive to get it??

Dunno. Great movie. Lotta fun.
Best DVD of it yet. Agreed??

5 out of 5 stars Possibly the king of 80's slapstick comedy .......2006-06-14

What can I say about Vacation that hasn't already been said? It gave birth to a thousand quotes, made Chevy, Randy Quaid, John Candy and Anthony Michael-Hall all stars.

If you like articulate or less obvious humour, you won't find Vacation at all funny. If, like me you find stuff like Caddyshack, Bachelor Party and The Burbs funny but haven't yet seen Vacation, do yourself a serious favour and get it.

After winning a tour package in a game show, the bickering Griswald family carve a trail of destruction through England (where they knock over Stonehenge), France, Germany, and Italy. Somehow Ellen (Bevery D'Angelo), the mom, gets kidnapped by gangsters, leading to a car chase that reunites the family, despite their differences. It's hard to believe that National Lampoon's European Vacation is only the second of the Vacation movies; it has the exhausted pallor of the last of a long series of sequels, drained of all zest or original ideas. The charmless smirk of Chevy Chase, mechanical in its idiocy, hangs over European Vacation like a death mask. It's hard to believe that this hack was once the funny and sexy hero of Foul Play. D'Angelo keeps her chin up and gives the movie whatever class it may have; she deserves better. --Bret Fetzer

The Griswalds are on vacation again when they win a deluxe tour of the old world and take on the European continent -- the continent loses.

4 out of 5 stars National Lampoon's European Vacation.......2007-04-04

I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the movie arrived. Also, the disc was in immaculate condition and didn't skip. Overall very enjoyable movie and excellent service from Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Typical National Lampoon Humor.......2007-01-04

I saw this movie, originally, when it came out in theatres. I loved it then, I love it now. It's not a thinking-man's movie. When you just want to laugh and be entertained, this is a good movie to watch. There are a lot of good one-liners in this movie.

4 out of 5 stars The best of the Vacation series.......2006-10-27

I liked the first in the Vacation series but didn't really find anything truly can't-stop-laughing hilarious. Since I was born a few years after the first two Vacations were released, the movies' 80s-tinged comedic moments didn't really appeal to me. European Vacation is the only movie in the series I could say I really enjoyed. Beverly D'Angelo continues giving a great performance as Mom, especially when she gets drunk after realizing Chevy Chase's character accidentally left some private "footage" on his camera when it turned into a European porn video. But the standout performance here really comes from former child actress Dana Hill as an love-infatuated diet-obsessed teenage Audrey (trust me, she is hilarious!). The antics the family get into aren't believable and it's a surprise to see how Chevy's character Clark even is allowed to book a trip (let alone be in charge of one after his horrible attempts before), but in the end European Vacation makes for a hearty laugh nevertheless.

3 out of 5 stars Problems with audio.......2006-08-22

This is a review of the DVD itself, not the movie (not sure why people seem to want to review the movie itself in this forum).

Overall, a good quality reproduction of the original. (This version does have the topless scenes, for those that have children...) However, the audio is not surround. When you play through a 5.1 speaker system, all the audio goes straight to the center speaker. I am not sure if this was a problem with the disc I received or the DVD in general.

Extras: There are no deleted scenes. The only worthwhile extra is Chevy Chase's commentary, which is actually quite funny and revealing.

3 out of 5 stars Classier than film one.......2006-07-16

Although the original Audrey in National Lampoon's Vacaction was a really cute girl (I had a crush on her when I saw the film in 1983) Dana Hill does a fairly good bit replacing her here. Chase and D'Angelo are back in top form (especially D'angelo) as the Griswold parents. I love Mrs. Griswold's stripping scene she performs in fron't of her husband's camera. The European locations beat the scenes of Chicago and the southwest from film one in giving the 2nd film much more sophistication. Eric Idle is painful to watch (like he is in all his non-Python work) in an irregular series of cameos.

Description

Everything is planned, everything is packed, everything will go hilariously wrong: The Griswolds are going on vacation! In the trend-setting original National Lampoon's Vacation [Side A], Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) is at the wheel of the station wagon, headed for 2,640 miles of forced family togetherness as the Griswolds (with Aunt Edna on the roof!) motor to Wally World. The superb cast includes John Candy as an officious security guard, and Randy Quaid as crude Cousin Eddie - with friends like these, who needs enemies? The theme park may have (somehow) survived, but Stonehenge becomes unhinged when Clark next leads the family across the pond in National Lampoon's European Vacation [Side B]. Go ahead, take a Vacation.

There was some concern that this DVD may not be in widesreen format but it cetainly is. Both movies are in beautful 1.85:1 aspect ratio. They both have a lot of extras and it seems the original 1983 Vacation here has all of the features of the Special Edition PLUS European Vacation as a bonus for the same price? Even though European Vacation is really an inferior sequel, why not have it if you get for free?

NATIONAL LAMPOON'S DORM DAZE 2 (2006)
directed by David & Scott Hillebrand
approx. 109 minutes

Putting Vida Guerra on the cover of your cheezy college comedy is a great way to sell DVDs. Putting her in less that 15 minutes of the movie is a great way to get negative reviews.

The plot to this movie is all over the place. There is a Professor dealing in the illegal jewel trade who is having a relationship with a student. Two students are competing for a grant for graduate school and one of them is prepared to "go all the way". Then there's a killer loose on the boat, a la 'JASON TAKES MANHATTAN'. Some of the students are trying to stay abstinent, others are have just broken up & are trying to "live it up". Oh by the way, all these characters are cast in a play that is to be judged against a statement from a group of pretentious feminists who later turn out to be slatterns. There are a few funny parts but mostly it feels like a rush job trying to reiterate the stereotype that college kids are soul-less animals controlled by their raging libido.

The cast is a weird grouping of people... porn actress Jasmin St. Claire, the guy from 'the Nanny', the Principal's daughter from "Boston Public", "the Sherminator" from 'AMERICAN PIE', etc. I never saw the first 'DORM DAZE' so I was surprised to see Danielle Fishel (best known as "Topanga" on 'BOY MEETS WORLD') in this movie.

The DVD features a "Vida Guerra featurette" which is also misleading. While Vida is interviewed in this "special feature", its actually a behind the scenes of a photoshoot for the August/September 2006 issue of Black Men magazine. The issue featured pictures of Vida, China Shavers and Jennifer Lyons.

Apparently, 'DORM DAZE 3' is already in production. I wonder if the marketing for this one will affect the sales of future titles.

This is the worst teensploitation film I've ever seen. The jokes are flat and uninspired. There is absolutely no new ground broken here. Not a single memorable moment, with the exception of a slow motion scene in a woman's shower room.

But if it's skin you're looking for, hasn't the internet made movies like this obsolete? Why do I need to sit through 100 minutes of dumb plot and jokes that are all dead on arrival when I can take two minutes to do a google search for Vida Guera?

3 out of 5 stars it's mildly entertaining! .......2007-01-31

this one is sick & full of humor! however, it is stupid humor, I only laughed about half the time. lots of hot chicks in this film, including Vida Guerra. this is pretty much the film u'd expect it to be, partying, sex, drugs, nudity & so on... the premise, is a diamond has been stolen by a "pretend" investigator and a smart monkey amped up on drugs & such steals it shortly after the man is murdered but we don't know who did it. that person was looking to steal it from the original thief as the diamond is worth $4 million. but that's not the entire focuss of the film which is good cause I don't think anyone would want to watch a monkey running around everywhere with a diamond in its tiny little bag it uses to steal things. would get pretty dull. so in turn, we get a competition between two plays & I think we all know which ones the judges would've preferred, lol. however, I never found this film all that funny. the plot was really weird as they switched between both events and then had all these side characters doing other stuff and was all very distracting & not very well executed. I could pick apart a bunch of things wrong with this film but this film is just meant to be enjoyed without over-thinking it! otherwise, you might find yourself a little disappointed or u'll be hating it with passion. it's not a good film but may or may not be worth seeing.

5 out of 5 stars VIDA GUERRA, I LOVE YOU MADLY..........2006-11-25

... although I honestly haven't seen this flick yet, cover girl Vida Guerra gets 10 stars because she is quite simply the hottest female on the planet - GREAT GOSH A-MIGHTY, IF THAT GAL AIN'T GOT THE END TO END ALL ENDS! Eat your heart out, Jennifer Lopez.

Look me up when I make it big, Vida.

3 out of 5 stars A little chaotic for my taste, but funny enough at times.......2006-10-19

Dorm Daze 2, sequal to Dorm Daze released a couple of years ago, takes place as our college characters from the previous movie set sail on a college cruise. The main theme on this cruise again is sex and alcohol, the quality things to do in college. The plot that ties this movie together is a stolen diamond that one of the professors had heisted after his archeological venture. Also tied in with our characters is a play that one of them has produced that they will be performing in a competition while at see. The play itself revolves around a diamond robbery. Again, their are some funny things that go on in this movie, but for me it was a little chaotic, at least the first movie took place around a dorm and seemed more plausable and a funny exageration of dorm life. This movie seems to play on some fantasy world where pretty much a whole college goes on a cruise for 2 months at a time with professors, advisors, and the College dean all going along to teach class. I guess they must all be rich. This movie was much more pieced together, thinner threads tieing things together, and I don't even think they introduced some of the characters again until mid-movie eg. Fusball, who is in the movie throughout but his name isn't mentioned until about 40 minutes in. They expect that I have remembered all of these people's name from the first movie and what they did their. Actually, this movie's plot has little to do with the first one except for the character's playing the parts. Overall, humerous moments, but just not spectacular in my book, and not the best national lampoon's production.

1 out of 5 stars Yes, the movie is as shallow and brainless as it looks, awful........2007-03-29

I am flat out ashamed that I have even seen this movie. National Lampoons has really lent their name to so many bad projects recently, scaring a great legacy. This DVD is just bad. Yes, expectations were low, but Come on, I thought it might have a story or some humor. Nope, just Nikki Ziering half naked periodically throughout the movie to capture the dumb male viewer (forced to include myself now), and a bunch of film of idiot College kids getting drunk. After half way, I just hit fast forward, but it didn't make it any better. And the story they tried with the two loosers in vegas...not funny. I am left ashamed of seeing this. Avoid at all cost. Don't even waste the time to rent it.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Hilarious!!!.......2007-04-17

I don't know what people are thinking giving this 1 and 2 stars. Chevy Chase is a comedic genius!! His delivery and Improv ability is spot on! He has a way of delivering an otherwise boring line that makes anything he says funny! This man can make a comedy out of reading the PHONE BOOK!

Christmas Vacation reunites Chevy Chase and Beverley D'Angelo as they decide to hold Christmas Festivities at their house this year. When the two sides of the family come together, it's not Auld Lang Syne. It's not a "Wonderful" Life but it's a WONDERFULLY Hilarious Holiday Romp!! An undeniable part of my holiday tradition.

2 out of 5 stars Worst Quality HD-DVD so far!.......2006-12-29

"Christmas Vacation"(CV) is one of our favorite Christmas movies, along with "A Christmas Story"(ACS), so I was anxiously looking forward to watching them in HD. We were terribly disappointed when we saw CV! Instead of a sharp, vibrant picture as we have seen in other redone oldies, this was grainy and dull (unlike ACS). After watching it, I put my non HD dvd of CV in the HD player, and saw little difference in picture quality. At times I felt the non HD version had better color!!??
ACS was like watching an entirely new movie, however, and I could see many things clearly for the first time in the HD version.
I rated CV 2 stars simply because I love the story, but would rate it as zero stars for HD quality!
What happened WB?

Update: After posting this review, I sent an email to Warner Bros complaining about the quality. I receved a prompt reply with instructions as to how to get a prepaid return envelope to WB so they could replace it. Dubious, I followed the instructions, returned the DVD, and received a new one after a week or so. Yesterday, still dubious, I watched it. OK, now I have a good quality HD version of Christmas Vacation - just what you would expect from an HD-DVD. Thanks WB! I would now rate it as 5 stars.

The Video: Sizing Up the Picture

As much as I would love to spread some holiday cheer Warner's way, I have to be a Scrooge and admit this is probably the weakest HD DVD release I've seen yet from the studio. Certainly, it is not terrible, and compared to standard-def DVD, it's still a marked improvement. But the source material is dated and in great need of a genuine clean-up. This feels like a tossed-off transfer at best.

'Christmas Vacation' is presented in 1.78:1 widescreen and 1080p/VC-1 video. Blacks are fine, but contrast lacks pop. Most scenes look flat and two-dimensional. Softness is also all over the place -- some scenes are nice and crisp, others fuzzy and ill-defined. Colors can be fairly well saturated, but again they are inconsistent -- some shots are as icky and pasty as an over-the-air standard-def broadcast. Hues certainly never leap off the screen like you expect on even the most marginal high-def transfer. Fleshtones also look too red, making Chevy Chase's already-round face even more piggish. A low level of grain also permeates the transfer, and dirt and speckles are frequent, if still minor.

The Audio: Rating the Sound

'Christmas Vacation' is one of the few HD DVD titles released in Dolby Digital-Plus 2.0 stereo only. Even with a healthy 640kbps bitrate, there isn't much you can do with dated source elements like this. For a soundtrack produced in 1989, 'Christmas Vacation' certainly isn't bad, but it also sounds just about every one of its nearly twenty years of age.

At least it's clean. The audio stems aren't crackly or overly harsh. High and low end, however, sound smooshed together into the midrange -- this is one flat soundtrack. Dialogue also sounds ADR'd at times, and somewhat muted -- it certainly is never as distinct as a modern mix (turn it up or you may have trouble understanding Cousin Eddie's mumbles). Stereo effects are perfectly fine, with a few front pans, but that's about it. Hey, it's a two-channel mix -- even Santa can't work magic with a lump of coal.

The Supplements: Digging Into the Good Stuff

Originally billed as a "Special Edition" when it was released on standard-def DVD, there wasn't much special about 'Christmas Vacation' in its DVD release. Aside from a theatrical trailer, the sole true extra was an audio commentary with the cast and filmmakers. Both of those goodies are repurposed here. The commentary, while quite packed with participants, is missing its main ingredient. No offense to director Jeremiah Chechik, producer Matty Simmons and stars Randy Quaid, Beverly D'Angelo, Johnny Galecki and Miriam Flynn, but just as it is hard to imagine a 'Vacation' flick without Chevy Chase, it is just as hard to imagine a commentary on a 'Vacation' DVD without him, either. It also doesn't help that this is one of those weird group tracks where no one really seems all that thrilled to be there. Perhaps Chase would have stepped up to the plate and led the discussion; as such we get a few funny anecdotes, but a weird inorganic nature permeates the proceedings. I also found it a bit annoying that everyone kept referring to deleted scenes that were never included on the "Special Edition." Sorry, but bah humbug!

HD Bonus Content: Any Exclusive Goodies in There?

C'mon now -- did you really expect anything new here? At least we get Warner's usual custom bookmarks, pan and zoom and timeline HD features. Don't say Santa never gave you anything.

Easter Eggs

No easter eggs reported for 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' yet.

Final Thoughts

'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' is considered by many to be a modern holiday classic. I like a lot of the movie, but it can also be rather hit-or-miss. I'll always prefer the original 'Vacation,' but this one is still way better than the Griswold's European and Vegas adventures. Unfortunately, I can't say much for this HD DVD release. Lackluster at best, the transfer suffers from poor source material and the 2.0 channel mix ain't much better. Maybe someday Warner will truly restore all of the 'Vacation' flicks (or at least the good ones), but until then, it is hard to recommend plunking down the plastic for a disc this weak. 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' is not the disc you want to throw on this holiday season to impress family and friends with your new HD DVD player.

1 out of 5 stars NOT a GOOD HD DVD TO OWN.......2006-12-14

If Your looking for a REAL REVIEW; this movie is HORRIBLEY TRANSFERRED; 15% of the movie seems near HD quality. The opening cartoon is horrendously hazed with VHS quality coating. The sound is Dolby Digital 2CH not 5.1.... Honestly stick with the DVD version and put 20$ towards a True-HD movie like King Kong.... goto hddvd.org to read better reviews. By the way I own the Blu-Ray version and rented the HD-DVD version same quality... almost unwatchable at some points.... I am a fan of this movie and sour at wasting 20$... on a final note is does look better than the standard dvd but you wont be impressed trust me... please leave comments if you OWN the movie in HD-DVD or Blu-Ray

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful HD DVD! A true classic..........2006-12-06

This is among my favorite Christmas films. This and "A Christmas Story" (also just released on HD DVD). A Christmas classic, and there really aren't all that many. It just gets better and better each year! Love the Yuppies next door.

I've previous owned the VHS tape, the LaserDisc and the standard DVD of this film and this newly released HD DVD is by far the best! Not a speck on it. Beautifully restored... I'm really impressed with it's quality.

On my 46" Sony LCD widescreen it is a the total theatre experience, but I doubt that it ever looked this good in a theatre. The detail, color and sound is just awesome. The image fills the 16 by 9 inch screen.

If you don't know this movie, it is just terrific. From a script from John Hughes, it is just nasty enough to have the proper edge. It is also a wonderful Christmas movie!!!

If you have an HD DVD player, just order this!

The Video: Sizing Up the Picture

As I lamented in my HD DVD review of 'Christmas Vacation,' I hate being a Grinch, but this is probably the weakest next-gen master I've seen yet from Warner. Granted, it is still an improvement over the standard-def DVD release, and slightly better than it's HD DVD counterpart, but that's not saying much, as the source material is still quite dated and sorely in need of a clean-up.

1 out of 5 stars Skip this Blu-Ray.......2006-12-14

This movie is HORRIBLEY TRANSFERRED; 15% of the movie seems near HD quality. The opening cartoon is horrendously hazed with VHS quality coating. The sound is Dolby Digital 2CH not 5.1.... Honestly stick with the DVD version and put 20$ towards a True-HD movie like King Kong.... goto hddvd.org to read better reviews. I own this Blu-Ray version and rented the HD-DVD version same quality... almost unwatchable at some points.... I am a fan of this movie and sour at wasting 20$... on a final note is does look better than the standard dvd but you wont be impressed trust me... please leave comments if you OWN the movie in HD-DVD or Blu-Ray

Description

When Cousin Eddie joined Clark Griswold and his family for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, the movie quickly becaume a holiday institution. An institution, of course, is where many think Cousin Eddie should reside. Randy Quaid again plays crude but lovable Eddie and Miriam Flynn returns as his wife in another comic skid on the Vacation banana peel. In a way, Christmas has always been a test of survival for Eddie and his brood. And that's truer than ever when they receive an expenses-paid holiday tour of the South Pacific and end up shipwrecked on a remote island. Fred Willard, Ed Asner, Eric Idle in a zany cameo and more join in this season of comfort and joy. Which means little comfort for Eddie. And lots of joy for Vacation fans.

I got this for my father for Christmas. What a waste of money it was. I was expecting some funny, witty jokes- just like the first movie. It was nothing like that at all. It was not funny, there was no storyline, we watched about 30 minutes of it, and just gave up watching it because it was so bad. The acting was also horrible. I would not reccommend this to anyone.

You know. I really enjoyed the first Christmas Vacation. When I saw CV2 on the shelf I was excited to see the saga continue. The movie starts out great....until the beginning credits end. While they did bring back an old Audrey they forget the core family...Chevy Chase and Beverly DeAngelo. Guess they knew to stay away from such a bad movie and so should you. Trust me. This movie is not enjoyable whatsoever.

I would have given it no stars but they don't allow it.

3 out of 5 stars mildly amusing.......2005-08-09

This movie, while most certainly not the best comedy made by National Lampoon was funny none the less amusing in it's own strange way. Definitely not a suitable sequel to the original Christmas Vacation though.

YOU PEOPLE!!!!I heard you bitch and moan like all day about this movie! When you moan about one of funniest movies ever you,re insulting the director.AND YOU HURT MY FEELINGS TOO. Love goes out to you, Nick Marck.

2 out of 5 stars Ooops.......2004-12-27

Okey. its enjoyable for big fans of the old vacation movies. becouse you see the original "audrey griswold" back after 20 years. she looks kind of weird though. she's a grown woman now, but still look like one of their kids. and ofcourse Eddie and his wife along with "snod" the dog. so, even though the movie isnt very fun at all. you can still find some enjoyment watching this. i mean, after all, it isnt just a remake with completely diffrent actors and moviemakers. it's a fifth installment in the "Vacation" series.
I really wanted, and really tried to like this movie. but i don't think i laughed once. it starts of bad from the begining, in one of the early scenes, when they've landed in this hot vacation place, they meet all these cute loveable asian girls, and i figure "okey, atleast that's a reason for liking the movie". but then this bitter angry asian girl shows up, and she becomes they're guide. great.. oh, and comedian Fred Willard shows up for a few short scenes. Oh, Eric Idle too!
cousin eddie was my favorite character in the vacation series, so i was really looking forward to this movie and thought i'd like it. but it just isnt funny! on the DVD extras, you see trailers of the old vacation movies.. and i mean.. just compare. this comes out as a very poor and empty movie with old lame jokes and only about 1:20h long.
if i wasn't a fan of the "vacation" series, and this was just like a regular movie i saw, without seeing the prevoius ones. i would just think this was the lamest thing ever.
i don't know.. maybe kids will like it. i'm still hoping for more Vacation movies, even though the movie makers didnt seem to care much about this one. the previous "Vegas Vacation" (1997) wasn't the funniest either. Well, still, i enjoy this movie becouse it's another installment with alote of familiar faces and a great vacation spot. i mean, who wouldnt like to be at that hot place in the middle of the winter. i like it, but it's not fun.
