Released to only a handful of theaters in the spring and summer of 1998, Homegrown was neglected by nervous distributors who couldn't figure out how to market a movie about marijuana farmers. As a result, hardly anyone saw this cleverly plotted comedy-thriller about three experienced pot growers in northern California (Billy Bob Thornton, Hank Azaria, and Ryan Phillippe) who guard their valuable outdoor crop against raids by the cops and unwanted competitors. When their mysterious leader is apparently murdered, Thornton assumes the dead man's identity to arrange one last, lucrative bumper-crop deal, but pulling off the scam proves to be a lot harder than they'd anticipated. While the three potheads seek refuge with an old colleague (Kelly Lynch) and routinely sample their goods (which explains the film's theatrical obscurity), Homegrown turns into a taut thriller fueled by equal parts comedy and paranoid tension--an update of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre with marijuana instead of gold! Featuring cameo roles for Jamie Lee Curtis, Ted Danson, and John Lithgow, this entertaining film fell victim to the misguided fear that it promotes drugs and illegal activity. If anything, it promotes interesting characters, catchy dialogue, and a welcomed alternative to mainstream Hollywood comedies. --Jeff Shannon

Kinda weird..........2006-03-08
This movie gave me the same kinda scratch my head feeling as Pleasantville, but much more entertaining. You can almost get a contact high from the DVD itself...geez :O)
Great Comedy Movie!.......2006-01-15
It is a great movie. Slightly dark comedy. I stumbled onto it back in 2004, I believe, on HBO one night. Within 15 minutes I knew I had to own it. I couldn't believe all these big actors were in it and yet I had never heard of it. I made sure to check the date on it at the end of the film - 1998. I was wowed because that is farther back than I thought. In 1998, I was too young to appreciate such a movie. ****Ted Danson as the toy factory mafia guy is hilarious.**** It's a great movie, at least rent it. Actually it might be cheaper to buy it now, BUY IT.
All-star cast, great drama, but it didn't get much screentime.......2005-12-19
Homegrown is a difficult movie to explain or market. Some people seem to want to call it a comedy to help ease the touchy marijuana subject, but it is really a crime drama, not a comedy. It's a comedy only in the way that some unseasoned criminals screw up on the job (as in an Elmore Leonard novel), but that's just relief from what is truly a dramatic film about marijuana farmers. One can't help but wonder how the studio planned to deal with a possible backlash to a film that presents marijuana farmers as good guys, not demons.
The cast is terrific, from Billy Bob Thornton to John Lithgow to Jamie Lee Curtis to Jon Bon Jovi, among many other big names. If you want to see a movie most people didn't get a chance to view on the big screen, check this one out.
Better than i expected.......2005-10-20
this is a great flick for those interested in the marijuana culture, esspecially the guerilla grow-ops. A lot of big name stars...i'm suprised i never heard of this until it had been on video for a while. I don't really see the comedy aspect as some other reviewers claim...but w/e, we all have different sences of humor. Def. Not for those looking for another half baked or cheech & chong...a bit more intelligent & realistic...check it out!
review of a very funny video.......2005-08-30
I had seen this video some while past and was looking to let a fried enjoy this humor, the video is super funny and quite well directed for such a different type of entertainment, this is a must see for all of billy bob lovers, get lost in the country for a couple of hours.

Customer Reviews:
Very delightful.......2007-02-19
If you love UB40, Homegrown in Holland will please you. An earlier reviewer found fault with the camera work and thought it too erratic. I think not, considering that such camera work is very common in concert dvds, and many are much more so. The performance is excellent on this DTS release.
UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live.......2006-11-08
UB40 is one of those bands whose live performances far exceed their recordings. The UB's rely on musicianship, not stage gimicks. This DVD is an excellent capture of the band in Holland where they are very well known and very popular. The set list contains some of the bands early songs (One in Ten / Present Arms / Food for Thought) as well as later hits on the continent and the states (Red, Red Wine / Here I Am / Kingstontown). It also contains some extras that give alot of insite about the band. As to some of the reviews about the photography, yes, there are quick takes, but the for the most part it is fine video. I bought the DVD inspite of the negative comments, have watched most of it more the 100x and love it. It would be extremely boring to have a still shot of the band for the whole concert. I would highly recommend this DVD to any ub loonie, reggae fan or anyone new to reggae. For the loonies, check out Norm's message at the start of "Rat."
Crazed TV director blew a no-brainer band shoot.......2006-09-17
Doesn't meet the minimum standards of viewability. The director must have have a nervous breakdown. Music is great, video unwatchable. Pointless cuts that last lesss than a second. No brainer shoot blown by a tv director with no talent for concert video
LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THIS DVD AND YOU WILL TO.......2006-07-25
wow, what a complete compilation of this unique and often over looked band! i loved them for years & remember when red red wine put them on the crossover map and everyone assumed these guys were brothers of the African American variety. there is indeed a lot of input from the message this fab.&innovative band of musicians. anyone can hear the soul created in this reggae version of sly and family stoned rasta slash hip hop (although i personally didn't care for the token rap song) this band prooves that skin pigmitation has nothing to do with rasta greatness!!!!!!
Poor photography.......2006-06-18
This otherwise good show by good musicians is spoilt by bad photography jumping around more than the band do and making it irritating to watch. You don't see anyone only catch glimpses of people or scenes for a second or less.

Product Description
Swinger Lifestyle Xposed! Homegrown Video uncovers the hedonistic bacchanalia of the contemporary swinger's scene! Needless to say, in our currently conservative society, this scene has purposely kept a low profile. While obviously not camera-shy, these swingers have been reluctant to share their way of life with outsiders... UNTIL NOW !! In this exclusive episode of Homegrown Video, we bring you, the viewer, inside their private world, where you can see for yourself the unbridled sexual energy of these wild, free-for-all orgies!
Most of the ladies in this video are swingers who have branched out into documenting their exploits on the web, so they get together to take photos of each other doing the nasty things they love so much. Usually viewers aren't treated to such an in-depth look at swing parties, so this is a very unique view!
