The character's troubles don't end there, however: Her ex-husband is posing a threat, and a perverted congressman (Burt Reynolds) is looking for more than a lap dance. Bergman's great wit is nowhere in sight, and the film primarily becomes another opportunity for Moore to function like a special effect. I would never buy from amazon again, i never recieved my item, i ordered in may it was supposed to be here by may 18th and i emailed amazon about this to let them know that i hadn't gotten the package,they were supposed to look into it, when i was emailed back they told me that the package had been delivered, funny thing is thati'm still waiting on it to get here,however amazon didn't waste anytime getting the money out of my account, if they had just gotten my item to me as soon as they took my money then i would be happy with that, i will never order anything from them again. use e-bay i've never had this problem when using e-bay.hope they enjoyed my 40 bucks, and if i ever get my workout dvds i'm sure i'll enjoy them as they've enjoyed taking my money.

I am just begnning this four disc workout, but I am satisfied. It's fun, sexy and a good workout. I can't wait to become more fit and tone. I have a feeling in will become more beneficial to me in more that just having a hot body!!!

I thought that this would be a whole workout routine, but the hip-hop part loops the same few steps over and over again. I didn't do the "Lap Dance" section, so I can't speak on that. But, if you're getting it for the hip-hop, don't bother.

On a whim I purchased Striptease because my workouts had been boring me. I thought it would be a fun way to change things up but wasn't expecting very much. I was very wrong. The dance routines make me work up a sweat and the 2nd video - fit to strip- made my buns ache! This is definitely a great workout but a fun one as well so that I am not bored. I mean anything that gets me up at 5:30am 4 times a week every week must be pretty good. Great investment.

I watched this movie not too long ago after having not seen it in many years. I found the story to be plausible, but the bad acting and choppy story flow left much to be desired. From what I understand, this movie was originally set as a drama, but it was turned into comedy for the sake of mass appeal. If it was a drama it would have made a little more sense.

Demi Moore plays Erin, a single mom who is looking to make ends meet and keep custody of her daughter. Like a lot of desperate women with no education or skills, she turns to the pole. She's a likeable gal despite the sleaze and desperation a job and enviornment like this constitutes, and is completely drug free as well. (Now we're talking fiction!) Burt Reynolds, in the only true comic relief in this movie, is a senator who's a little off his meds one day when he sees Erin dancing and becomes obsessed with her, providing the one and only plot movement to see what will happen once they see each other again. And there's some crime or something that they witness in between and there's a twist in it. Or something.

THis was a vehicle for showing us Demi's buff and tumble body. I admit, I hope I will look like her at age 40, let alone after one, let alone after THREE children. And perhaps she wanted to make us a little jealous, but now I have every reason to be jealous since she's married to Ashton Kutcher 15 years her junior. Still, it's a weak movie. If you need some eye candy of Demi Moore, you're better off looking for stills on the Internet.

...the flop that deserves six of its Razzies and the nomination for Worst Picture of the Decade?

I think, "Striptease" (1996) directed by Andrew Bergman based on the book by Carl Hiaasen, is all of the above - a curious mixture of laughs, satire, absurdism, darkness, silliness, and over-seriousness. The latter comes from Demi Moore who plays Erin Grant, the FBI secretary - losing her job and the custody over her daughter to no good small time crook wheelchairs stealing husband (Robert Patrick looking and acting like a stoned, redneck version of Gary Oldman) and who takes a job as an exotic dancer in the local club "Eager Beaver" to earn money for her court appeal. In the club she becomes the hottest attraction and meets many...interesting characters, the most colorful being, of course Congressman David Dilbeck (Burt Reynolds) who "just loves naked women. It's a character flaw" and who is absolutely smitten by Erin. Erin also makes friends with a club bouncer, Shad (Ving Rhames) who is perhaps the best thing in the movie - clever, sharp, sarcastic, with the great sense of humor. One scene where Shad tells to Dilbeck's bodyguards that Meryl Streep used to work in "Eager Beaver" as an exotic dancer and they seem to believe him is brilliant. If only everything had been as good as he was we would've had a really great movie. What do we have now? Well, Demi Moore looks really good with the minimum clothes on. I mean, the woman was a 33 year old mother of three at the time and her body was marvel to behold. I just think that she was too serious, intense, and solemn doing the striptease numbers - after all it is not only strip it is tease, too. It goes to her acting in the movie in general. Reynolds seemed to have a lot of fun with his sleazy drunk Congressman David Dilbeck, election-day choice of Christian groups and a lot of laughs comes from his mannerism and quotes. There are plenty of laughs, actually, in "Striptease" but quite often they seem like the wrong and unintentional type for the movie material.

Who had the best laugh? I'd guess, Demi Moore did after been paid $12.5 million - one of the highest paychecks for an actress back then.

Giddy, silly fun.......2007-03-27

As a long time Carl Hiassen reader, I was expecting a good dose of quirkiness, a little bit of social comment and a lot of over the top foolishness. I were not disappointed. Anyone looking for a serious film, with a believable plot and subtle characters should watch something else. "Strip Tease" is nothing but fun, and lots of it. I found the strip scenes to be very well done, enjoyed the quality of the dancing, and laughed heartily at the striper's names. You've got to love "Masada Retirement Home", and of course, the bouncer's weapon of choice is pure delight. No complaints. This is a terrific film.

The Carl Hiaasen book of the same name has the same characters and plot, but is MUCH better. I've seen the movie and read the book. The book is much more enjoyable.

I was quite disappointed with this dvd. The girls' styles were not up to date.. the stuff they wear and their hairstyles are quite old fashioned.. then i looked at the production date and it was from 2005..but still.. and there weren't any WOW techniques.. i didn't learn anything.. NOTHING at all..

I purchased this to learn how to give my husband of 11 years, a lap dance...(I'm a novice dancer!) WOW!!!! this dvd was the extra push I needed.It taught me the moves I wanted to have and the music was good too.The only part I did not like was the interview and demo by Fawnia Mondey.She's built like a body builder and does what looks like a gymnastics floor show for her demo dance...The other girls were great...I will never forget the smile on my man's face when he was watching me dance for him! He even asked if I was really "shopping" with my friends and not going to strip clubs!!!!!

Great instructional tool for beginners.......2007-03-30

This DVD is geared towards the "average" woman who is a beginner and wants to learn how to do a lap dance and striptease. Four dancers do a short talking section, discussing several tips and techniques for setting the mood, what to wear, etc., then they describe and walk you through several different moves (sometimes with a couch and sometimes with a chair), and then they put it all together in a demonstration dance to music. As an added bonus, there is a link to the customer's area of the web site where you can sign up for free and get access to additional downloadable music and videos.

If you are a professional dancer looking to pick up some advanced moves, this probably isn't for you, although you still may find it helpful. No supermodels on expensive film stages, which makes this more real for the majority of the women who might buy the DVD. The setting is similar to what you would find in most home living rooms... no fancy poles or sexy colored stage lighting. The video was not meant to be erotic on its own, it's purely instructional in nature. Plus it comes with a bonus music CD that holds it own, and is enjoyable to listen to even when you aren't dancing.

If you aren't certain that this is for you, there are demo video clips and music clips on the product web site. They will give you a good feel for the product and help you decide. Don't base your decisions solely on customer reviews, as everyone is different, and most people don't take the time to write a review.

Great informational DVD.......2007-03-22

I bought several dvd's on how to strip. This one was by far the best. It was very informative, and explained each move. The women looked like average women, which was very nice. This is not sleezy, it is strictly a educational dvd. The dvd also came with a great cd with just music to strip by. I would highly recommend this.

I was looking for a professional type instructional video. What I ended up with was more along the lines of an amateur, do-it-yourself, home-style video. The people, the presentation, the overall product were a disappointment. So much so that I threw it away. The music CD as well. I recommend you look elsewhere.

Not what I thought.......2007-05-12

I bought this dvd thinking it would show me step by step how to dance. All it did was show lapdances that other girls were doing. Plus its old and boring. I was really disappointed in the product I received.

The sexiest in the series . . . and the most practical!.......2007-01-23

I was looking for an instructional striptease video - one that wasn't an aerobic workout. I wanted to put on a show of my own - not get into shape. "The Art of Exotic Dance -- Striptease Series" with Fawnia Mondey seemed right on target.

Since I had accompanied my husband/boyfriend to several strip clubs over the years, I had a basic idea of what I wanted to accomplish. (Thank goodness women are now welcome.) I wanted to learn some moves - and maybe create a short routine - that I hoped to use for `special occasions' in my own home!

As background, this video series is hosted by Fawnia Mondey (who goes by just "Fawnia") -- who lists as her credentials a dozen nude dance titles (such as Miss Canada's Rookie of the Year, or the North American Exotic Dance Champion). She is also cute as a button - and just as in shape - as she appears on the video's cover. (Darn her!)

This episode also had a few other instructors. One, `Athena,' also a former Penthouse dance contest champion, looks so much like Fawnia (just a bit thinner, younger and brunette) that she could probably pass for Fawnia's younger sister.

The first demonstration, executed mostly topless, shows how to give a "no touch" lap dance performance, and how to use the "tease" to heighten the excitement, with views both front and back.

The second lesson (also topless) gets a little hotter by adding in contact (with your "customer"). The segment starts with the dancer -- sitting first on the guy's lap - and then proceeding to brush her chest against his cheeks. Many of the moves focus on rubbing yourself against him (by sitting in his lap, facing him or away) or by assuming various postures which bring portions of your body (breasts or butt, usually) closer to his face.

Emotionally, the goal is to make the man feel welcome and special - by demonstrating how much you enjoy performing for him. Expressing one's personality, according to Fawnia -- is also very important, and she gives numerous suggestions on how to accomplish this.

Some of the lap dance lessons are actually filmed in a (closed) strip club, with the guy sitting in a chair as though he had just paid for his "dance." One of the more exciting moves demonstrated -- was something called the "spider" where the dancer horizontally scissors the guy's face with her legs --and moves the lowest portion of her body teasingly in front of him. Of course, bringing your own lips in close - will also make his blood run just as quickly to his head!

In one of the more instructional portions of the video, Fawnia herself demonstrates various ways to remove a normal rear-clasp bra when viewed from the front or the back. She then does the same with a front-clasp bra -- sometimes using her arms or hands to shield her breasts afterwards -- as a means of lengthening the reveal.

She even shows how to remove your bikini (bottom) while standing or sitting (the latter done with the toes pointed), and also while lying on the floor (with the instructor achieving total nudity after each demonstration).

The video finishes by demonstrating how to translate these same moves into an "at home" performance, one with Athena (who begins by removing her skirt), and several with Fawnia (who starts off one segment wearing - and then removing - her silk babydoll nighty).

Ladies, if you've ever enjoyed a lap dance yourself -- you know just how utterly exciting and seductive this personal show can be!

I should also point out -- of the three videos (Pole Work, Floor Work, and Lap Dancing), this lap dance episode is the only one in the series -- that offers any in depth instruction on the actual stripping off of one's garments. It is also the only one that features any toplessness or nudity - so if your hubby wants to watch - this is the episode he'll find to be the most entertaining. (The other two videos are strictly dance instruction - with very little undressing.)

As my only nit, some of the earliest dance segments on the video were overly dark or yellow (in coloration). Obviously, to capture the actual feel of the performances - these were filmed using only the existing light of the setting. Unfortunately, no adjustments were made in the film type or in the white balance (of the video recorder) to compensate.

The later segments of the video, filmed with more normal everyday lighting, were much more enjoyable.

To conclude, if you're planning to buy any disc in the series - always buy this episode (lap dancing) first -- for its actual instruction on how to strip -- and for the numerous finishing moves it offers to help get your guy `over-the-top!' Enjoy.

Not Impressed.......2006-12-17

I bought this DVD thinking it would give me some good ideas and show me some new moves... I was wrong! I would have to agree with the other reviewers that only one of the dances was somewhat informative/interesting. The rest were slow, boring and repetitive. Definitely NOT worth the money! I thought this DVD was going to be about giving your b/f or husband an intimate, very sexy lap dance, but a lot of it was about dancing at a club, and the guys receiving the dances didn't look too entertained. There were many times I wanted to turn the DVD off, but I kept watching, thinking it would get better. Sadly, it didn't. I don't recommend this for anyone, no matter how much experience you have. You'd get better ideas from watching a music video on MTV.

Not instructive enough.......2006-10-01

I'm really getting tired of these dvds that promise or advertise to be instructive when all that is given is a view of different performances and commentary. It presumes that erotic dancing is "easy" and anyone with half a body can do it. This idea simply is not true. As a teacher, women come to me at times with no idea of how to do a hip circle or other basic erotic dance moves. They cannot learn through observation only. This dvd takes the observation approach. Basic/intermediate erotic dance moves are not taught through direct instruction, but through observation. Also, this dvd does involve brief nudity.

That being said, I do appreciate that in the product description, this dvd states that this product is really geared more towards women with erotic dance experience. I do like that good, sound tips about how to do a lap dance is given. Mostly, I liked this dvd for the suggestions and tips to beginning house dancers who want to earn a bit more money. However, in terms of the moves presented for dancers of this type...there's just not enough variation presented here in order to make it worthwhile.

This dvd has 4 different dance routines by four different dancers including Fawnia. The talent is capable and moves are executed really well. Then, there is a section on clothing removal which involves how to remove a bra and T-bar. There's also an interview section where Fawnia briefly interviews two of the dancers about dancing and the impact it has had on their lives.

To sum, I think this dvd will benefit buyers with some erotic dance experience. Beginning dancers or women who are new or shy about erotic dancing might have some difficulty with imitating the moves through observation only. For these women, I'd suggest "The Art of Exotic Dancing" or "Exotic dancing for Everyday Women." These two dvds will give you direct instruction on some basic moves. Let's face it, in order to fully appreciate this dvd, you will need familiarity with basic erotic dance moves first.

I agree with Tropical. Only one dancer seemed to really be intuitive in her dancing, all the others I was fast ffwing & just saw the same 3-5 moves over & over.
All you learn: Always touch yourself as much as possible, look/act or really enjoy yourself teasing him, let him see you from all angles, always pose to make sure you show your body in best possible light, roll your butt in his face, let your hair stroke his body, rub your boobs & crotch in his face, simulate sex in any way you can think, sliding your whole body up/down, sit on him up/down, whisper in his ear, make him feel wanted, ask him what he wants: an aggressive or shy girl, use blindfolds or tie him up so he can't touch you... That's it. The most important part is being confident in yourself & loving your own body.
This also has an interview with dancers & their private life for anyone who wants to become an exotic dancer.
I gave 2 stars for it being unique, using voice over while a dancer demonstrates, not too boring in how teaches, though needs more moves, had 3 different real dancers who won awards (though can't be for what they show here, must be toned down) & some interesting moves like the "spider" which is doing the bridge pose in a guy's face by putting your feet on the back of the chair.
It showed like 4 ways to take off a bra or panties, but only 1 seemed different, the rest boring.
Half the dancers were about entertaining a customer if you should decide to go that business & half about entertaining your significant other.
I am disappointed, I expected much more flair.

I order this dvd thinking it would give me some pointers on how to spice up my love life with my husband,like being able to learn how to give my husband a good private dance or show. But nothing!!!!I thought it would teach me something!!!
It seemed like it was filmed back in the 80's, had horrible music, and was really boring. I never would have wasted my money on this dumb whatever you want to call this art of exotic dancing dvd.

Artistic stripping! But where's the sexiness?.......2007-01-28

This is a very useful instructional video for those women aspiring to become professional strippers.

Fawnia is an excellent teacher. And this disc demonstrates how to move and look artistic while covering a lot of (dance floor) area -- when lying on the ground - and how to gracefully transition from standing to sitting and back again.

If you've ever taken dance lessons previously - the footwork will feel strangely familiar. Fawnia teaches us (or reminds us of) some of the basic step combinations. She then adds simple hand gestures - or a shoulder turn - to make the movements even more enticing.

Later in the video she demonstrates how to fall to the floor very gracefully. (Think freestyle gymnastics and you'll get the picture.) Once there, she then displays how to prop one's torso upright with one hand - so that your pretty limbs are up in the air drawing attention (much like the above-the-water leg actions found in synchronized swimming).

As a contrast, if you've ever been to an `amateur night' competition - when new girls audition - the lack of graceful locomotion is sometimes painfully apparent. (Some of these women might've benefited - from watching this video first!)

To recap, Fawnia's dance lessons are undoubtedly good.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of actual `stripping' on this disc.

For that, you'll have to get her episode on "Lap dancing and Entertaining Your Man" - where all of the disrobing is un-covered. (Get it?)

Since my personal goal was to create a little routine to use at home, this disc did teach me how to add style - while traipsing around the room. But info on when, where, and how to disrobe, unfortunately - was unabashedly absent!

Also missing were some actual or finished strip performances (also found on `Lap Dancing') which would've made the video a lot more entertaining - and a lot sexier -- in case my husband wanted to watch! (Hey, it never hurts to preheat the oven.)

But thinking in terms of effect - what's really absent from this video is a little "raunchiness."

My frame of reference (for stripping), like many of us, comes from the local strip clubs I've visited - where patrons sit immediately around the edges of the dance floor. Everyone's hope, of course, is to receive some `special attention' from the dancer - such as being enticed directly with a specific portion of her body - especially "you know where" - in exchange for tips generously given.

Unfortunately, Fawnia's instruction appears to be preparing us to compete (on stage) -- in those artistic (nude) dance competitions she's won in her past - rather than to replicate the uninhibited sexiness one sees closer to home in much more intimate settings.

It's those `nastiest' of movements that are missing from this video - which are the ones I really want to incorporate into my own private show!

To conclude, this video is great for learning to move gracefully. But being `raunchy' - is a lesson you'll have to garner on your own!

ehh...she knows how to work a pole though!.......2006-12-14

Way better than the lap dance dvd, at least they are clothed (in some RE-DONK-U-LOUS costumes..NOT HOT!) and definitely teaches you how to move on the floor. Some of the little dances are straight up 80s like the little hop and tap thing that gets you across stage, I am sorry but I won't be caught doing that...I pretty much just fast-fowarded the DVD which is cheaply set up in like a Fetish store so its almost like a home video...learned a little but not enough to buy it again!

Visual Learner.......2006-05-30

Fawnia says it herself. "If you're a visual learner this video will be a lot of help to make you a very successful entertainer." And that's probably the real problem with this video. There's little explanation of how best to do the move. When teaching the hand on butt move, she doesn't even start at a sideway's angle so that you can see where her hand is. And once she finally took it at a sideways angle she was going into an entirely new move.
I have to say a lot of Fawnia's outfits during the travelling sections were so gaudy they were annoying. Definitely a distraction from trying to watch her feet move.

OVER - RATED: Don't waste your money.......2006-03-28

There was nothing EXOTIC or Erotic about this dvd. It was very slow paced. The performances were plain and mundane. I would have been better off learning dance moves and floor work by watching female hip hop artist music videos on cable T.V.

S Factor First.......2007-06-28

Before reading this book, I recommend hitting up an S Factor class! I am getting married in 9 months and have been craving a way to blow off some steam and I am bored to death with running on the treadmill to get bride ready - yuck! I just found out that the pole dancing work out called S Factor opened this week in Chicago right around the corner from my house - YAY! I have seen it on Oprah a bunch of times and Teri Hatcher and Kate Hudson always mention the S Factor workout as a way to tone up and have fun at the same time. From what I have read on their website (SFactor.com,) it is "a unique, empowering striptease inspired and pole-dancing workout" (blush!). Think it's time to shake off my winter weight and get in gear to be wed...

Fawnia rocks..........2007-05-14

This is good stuff. I was surprised that I could pick up the moves so quickly. Some take some practice and when attempting them the first time, sometimes you will invent your own twist, so give it a try and see what happens. Lots of good basics but also room to grow (and other stuff that's just amazing to watch and aspire to!) If you have a portable/non-installed pole, you will want to be careful in which moves you attempt for safety's sake. Otherwise, lots of fun to watch and try to do Fawnia's moves at home.

OK, but could be updated some..........2007-03-19

I've owned this DVD for a couple years now (this one, and the second one of the series) because they've been available through Fawnia Mondey's website for a very long time, although they look like they've been repackaged for Amazon. From what another reviewer said, I can assume that the DVD itself is the same: set in a clothing shop, not many tricks, etc. The intruction for pole tricks isn't bad, it's just a little too easy for me. There really weren't many pole tricks at all- a lot of info on covering ground/travelling across a stage, and other stuff. I do like her sequence on stretching for extreme flexibility, as it only helps make you a better, stronger poledancer. The additional advice about what to wear & when to actually strip I personally don't like, but that's probably because I got into this for fitness, not for stripping. It felt a little cheesy to me. I'm currently checking out other DVD options for poledance tricks.

This is been by far the best DVD I have seen on Pole Dancing. Very Easy, slow paced, slow music. Hey, I'm a beginner, I want it easy! This was great to learn by. If you are super advanced it's not for you.

Big let down...........2006-06-30

This DVD is a big waste of time and money. I've been learning tricks for about 3 months with a few different DVD's and I'd have to say this is the worst one I've seen yet. Since the teacher is a stripper that won all these awards I thought it would have been better then what it was. It's filmed in some dance clothing store for goodness sakes!
If you're interested in learning pole tricks you should really start with Sheila Kelly's S Factor pole work video (step by step with a good 20 minute warm up session) or Pole Kats Intermediate video (both teachers were strippers and do a pretty good job of instruction). Those are both way better. I do NOT recommend this DVD to anyone. I'm glad I only paid $13.00 for it.

I recommend this dvd for burlesque fans, performers, and pop culture history buffs. An array of dancers from various eras and show circuits are shown, with a bit of narrative about each. Dozens of dancers are featured, including Dixie Evans, Sally Rand, Gypsy Rose Lee, Lily St Cyr, and Josephine Baker. many of the dances are shown full-length, which is especially valuable for people who are studying burlesque as an art form to emulate or refer to in their own work. And it's just plain fun to watch!

One caveat--as with many clips of old burlesque footage, many of these dancers are shown to different music than the dancers were actually performing to. The enormous cost of using the original music often results in this kind of clip, which makes it difficult to evaluate just how good these performers actually were. Maybe some of them were much better than they appear to be, some worse--but no doubt they could hit a beat now and then!

I think this is an excellent dvd for those who want to see how striptease/stripping use to be done. Also, it offers great ideas (not instruction) for ladies who'd like to put together a striptease routine. All of the ladies strip down to pasties and g-strings so the nudity, if one can call it that, is mimimal. I think this dvd would make a great v-day or birth day gift for the man (or woman)in your life! It's cute and innocent. I'd recommend reading Tempest Storm's or Blaze Star's bios along with this tape. It'll give the novice further insight into this time period of stripping.

A valuable study aid........2005-01-08

Although this documentary only takes in the American perspective, it is quite a good history from pre 1900 till the late 50s. I recommend this as a valuable study aid to students who are studying this subject for whatever reason, but it is not a film to get your rocks off or be titillated to.
