Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson--dark, wiry, and tense meets blond, lanky, and loose--make a solid comic team (and previously appeared together in Zoolander), but the funniest man in Starsky and Hutch is Vince Vaughn. Vaughn dives into his role as a sleazy drug dealer (who nonetheless buys a pony for his daughter's bat mitzvah) with the offhand zest that he brings to almost every role (from Swingers to Old School) and effortlessly steals every scene he's in. Vaughn has concocted a new and undetectable kind of cocaine, and only two cops who aren't afraid to break the rules--our titular pair--can catch him. But the plot isn't the point; mocking-yet-loving jabs at the '70s, including the homoerotic overtones of Starsky and Hutch's partnership, are what this movie is about. The satire is surprisingly mild but entertaining nonetheless, particularly when Vaughn or Snoop Dogg (as informant Huggy Bear) hold the screen. --Bret Fetzer

Wow, was I in for a treat when I watched this gem!!!.......2007-06-17
Big screen remakes of 70's sitcoms have given us "modern kids" a chance to enjoy some bellbottom antics that we otherwise would have missed out on. With a star-studded cast lead by Ben Stiller (Starsky) and Owen Wilson (Hutch), this film calls to all who are ready to be launched into ha-ha arcadia.
The stage is set right after you are introduced to the dynamic duo. Stiller is an uptight cop who serves the law to the utmost. Wilson is a laid back cop who just wants to take it easy. Let's pair them together! Holy, freaking-f! Where did they get that idea? It's awesome!
As the film builds up momentum with a prodigious and inexhaustible stream of jokes we meet Huggy Bear played by rapper Snoop Dogg. Why isn't this man in more movies? His acting is absolutely awe-inspiring (except that it is bad and I don't care for it much at all). In the 90's he popularized the alcoholic drink "gin and juice" and taught us that "endo" is the best marijuana to smoke. Now, in 2004, he is stupefying audiences with his rigmarole on the big screen. Boy how the times change. Speaking of change, let's not forget the antagonist, a villainous drug dealer named Reese Feldman, played by Vince Vaughn. Let me tell you straight up: this is not the Vaughn of old. Long gone is the quick-witted fun time swinger who gave a fairly decent vocabulary base to a generation of young hipsters. To make sure you're not confused, the character displays his wrathfulness early so you don't cry when/if he gets busted. How? One, he has a moustache. Two, he kills guys that loose his coke and doesn't even care about it. Three, he never says "that's money," "hey, you are money tonight," or "sexy babies for me and for you that are money." F that guy! I kept thinking throughout the whole film: you are sooooo busted in 70 minutes. So what about the plot? Basically, Starsky and Hutch somehow must find the bad guy through a tangled web of ridiculous humor, mishaps and total babes. If you were smart enough to figure out how to operate the DVD player you can see the jokes coming from a mile away. The real mystery I'll leave you with is this; can the two cops see through their differences to form a law enforcement juggernaut (like Robocop but with less buffoonery) and a possible lasting friendship in 90 minutes?
On a personal level after seeing this film I really wished that Owen Wilson was my bro, that guy would be awesome to do the "what's up" thing with.
Modern day filmmakers have somehow managed to take their non-creativity to a whole new level, much the same as Puff Diddy does with music. If you have lost your creative go ahead and take an idea that has already been done, inject a bunch of your own non-creative and you will have teens and adults alike reiterating phrases like "do it, do it" until the Knight Rider movie comes out. I personally can't wait till I'm 40 and I see the remake of Wayne's World.
Grade D+; wait to spend your money on the remake of Wayne's World (hopefully staring our friend Wayne).

Hillarious!!!.......2007-05-13
This movie is so funny!!! This is my second copy because one of "thieverous" (yes, I know that's not a word) relatives stole the original. But I highly recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it. The whole cast has their own style of comedy and when you bring them all together it's a lot of fun. Check it out.
Can't go wrong here!.......2007-02-04
I don't usually like these type of movies, but this is a can't miss...you'll laugh!
One of the funniest movies to come out in the last five years!.......2006-11-09
Ben Stiller as the tough guy cop throwing the bad guys around is too much! Owen Wilson as the touchy-feely partner is the perfect compliment.
Especially if you were around for the Seventies and the original, don't miss this one. First rate comedy is so rare, this movie is a lot of fun.
lame.......2006-11-02
I can't believe anyone liked this movie. It was boring. It wasn't funny at all. It was everything bad that I don't feel like typing.
The only good part was a scene near the end where the car... I won't spoil it. It's not like I have a problem with the actors. I just had a problem with the lack of an interesting plot and the absense of humor. What was passed off as humor did nothing for me. Hey, maybe it's me. I have the problem, I guess.

70"s Icons still look good in bell bottoms .......2007-04-11
I waited patiently for Season Four of Starsky and Hutch...to add to my 1970's favorite guys collection. I am disappointed at some of the stories being so lame, Paul and David look as if they are bored with their lines. But some stories directed by David Soul have a spark to them. They remind us of our lives way-back then. How much promise and many dreams for our futures we had. We all grew up and grew wiser along with David and Paul.
Good and Bad.......2007-03-24
For some inexpicable reason, Season 4 finally makes it's debut after what seems an age and months after the European and Australian version. The cover is different than the foreign counterpart looking like Hutch is hugging Starsky. The episodes for the most part are very good, but there seems to be an obsession in the show for disguises and make-up. There are some awful episodes (I hate the hair dresser episode), but the serious ones are excellent.
My kids love it........2007-03-15
We have some friends who lent us Season one and my two teenage girls loved it. We ordered Season 4 for my oldest daughters birthday and it was her favorite gift!
Out with a bang!.......2007-01-17
The show had a short shelf life but Season 4 got back to more of the gritty police cases mixed in with hot chicks. Season 3 seemed quite political with issues like homophobia, USA vs USSR, etc. It was a fitting end to the 70's seeing as shows like Magnum and Simon and Simon were more innovative and took over in the 80's.
Starsky & Hutch the Fourth season.......2007-01-12
This is a great Dvd, I loved Starsky & Hutch when it was on in the 70's. I'm looking forward to the Fifth Season. I give this a 5 Star rating.

In the rough-and-tumble, wildly entertaining world of Starsky & Hutch, impatient cops--anxious to join a foot race in pursuit of a villain--throw themselves out of moving vehicles and roll to a bruising stop. Undercover detectives Dave Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (David Soul), hardly imbued with the powers of Spider-Man, routinely scale walls, hop from rooftop to rooftop, and fling themselves down steep hillsides to stop bad guys from doing what bad guys do.
Two years before Hill Street Blues redefined the cop genre as a mesh of overlapping storylines and workaday frustrations, Aaron Spelling's Starsky & Hutch capped a five-year run (1975-1979) portraying LA's finest as madly heroic creatures of reckless determination and physicality. The Complete First Season reminds us how startlingly brutal this primetime series could be while maintaining a delightful, often incongruous, self-deprecating humor.
From the series pilot on, partners and best pals Starsky and Hutch work a fine line between predator and prey, relentlessly pursuing suspects while also snared by crime chieftains or short-sighted superiors. In "The Fix," Hutch's secret romance with the former girlfriend of a mafia boss (Robert Loggia) results in the lawman's kidnapping and forced addiction to heroin. Similarly, in "A Coffin for Starsky," a mad chemist injects the wisecracking cop with a slow-acting but lethal poison. "Jo-Jo," written by Michael Mann, finds our guys at loggerheads with federal officers over a dumb deal the G-Men make with a serial rapist.
The 23 episodes in this set are all fun, if sometimes shocking, viewing. Expect each character to take as much abuse as he dishes out. Still, the comic sight of Starsky and Hutch (in "Death Notice") trying to conduct business amidst busy strippers is well worth the surrounding violence. --Tom Keogh
Description
Produced by Aaron Spelling, "Starsky & Hutch" roared onto small screens in 1975 to become one of the most popular, iconic series of the decade. This was TV's coolest buddy cop show, fueled by full-throttle car chases, offbeat humor, colorful characters and a hip vibe. I knew that I could find it here at Amazon. Will buy here again. Quality has been excellent on everything that I bought.
Starsky & Hutch Season One.......2006-11-07
This is one of my all-time favorite shows from the seventies. This first season DVD is great and brings back a lot of memories. I never missed an episode of Starsky & Hutch when I was a kid - and now I realize that this show has stood the test of time with me. I would recommend this to all fans of the show. And what until you see the inside packaging! So cool. :)
AFTER 30 YEARS.......2006-08-06
Isn't it fun to watch again a show you used to like as a teenager and discover it still holds up to this day?STARSKY and HUTCH belongs to that category. It is not only because of the GRAN TORINO ,which became a cult item for collectors. If you remember 1975-76,we had lost IRONSIDE,MANNIX and HAWAI5-0 was starting to wind down when those two cops arrived on the scene.Sure we had KOJAK,but STARSKY and HUTCH were younger and could really compete physically with the criminals and chase them everywhere. We had HUGGY BEAR for comic relief,DOBEY the captain who has a strange fixture towards food and often interrupts STARSKY's meals ,who is himself a fast food addict.Mostly,STARSKY and HUTCH had great chemistry and as the season progress ,you also discover the human side of their characters.Although they are heterosexuals, there are some homosexual overtones in some of their scenes together that completely eluded me back then.It is funny sometimes to discover how time changes perception.STARSKY and HUTCH season 1 is worth buying and you'll get to see the guys on disc 5 discussing their characters and the producer, creator and writers about the genesis of the show.
Starsky & Hutch - The Complete First Season.......2006-07-03
It's so good to see the guys again... and I still love that car! Whoops, gotta go (get the bad guys)! Vrroooomm!
I want season 4 on DVD.......2006-03-20
First 3 seasons on DVD are great!Brings back fun memories.

Description
Starsky & Hutch, starring Pail Michael Glaser and David Soul, is the epitome of the hip, 70s buddy cop show. Season Three reacted to criticism about the hit series boundary-pushing violence by pumping up the serious drama. The 1977-1978 season tackled socially relevant themes like child abuse, homosexuality and mental illness mixing "issues" with tire-squealing car chases, gunplay and colorful recurring characters like jive-talking Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas) and quick-tempered Captain Dobey (Bernie Hamilton). A dazzling array of guest stars including Danny DeVito, Melanie Griffith, Suzanne Somers, Joan Collins and Philip Michael Thomas (TV's "Miami Vice") shared screen time with the two handsome cops, who directed some Season Three episodes. The show's outrageous style and tongue-in-cheek humor, now played alongside more serious story lines, made STARSKY & HUTCH one of the most popular and innovative cop shows ever.

Starsky & Hutch - The Complete Third Season.......2006-08-21
Haven't watched yet but am sure they will be good.
Not like Seasons One and Two. Season 4, where are you..............?.......2006-04-12
OK. Allegedly, protest groups were all over this show because it was wayyyy to violent for its time. So I give Mr. Spelling credit for adapting under the circumstances and tinkering with the formula. Shows need to branch out after the first few seasons. However some of the episodes miss the boat and sometimes the action is too watered down. And I KNOW some of the episodes are chopped, which is a total rip off. Maybe they need to do it for liscencing agreements. But to this day, it is the only tv series I have (and I have many) that edits their original shows.
It's been more than a year since a new season came out. I'm wondering what the delay is. Hopefully they won't chop up Season 4 too.

I think that the service provided by Amazon.com was very good.It was quick and easy, delivery was very prompt, and the product was in well condition.I will definetly keep purchasing from it.Thanks.......Eric
Always loved the shows .......2006-02-26
I have always loved the show. I never missed one growing up. I was so glad to be able to buy the series. I can't wait for season 4. I loved David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser there chemstry together was great. It didn't matter if the plot wasn't the greatest. It was just entertaining. My kids now watch the show and also love it. The shows today are so violent. Its nice to be able to sit and watch something with my kids that I watched growing up and know they like it just as much as I do.
Season 4 - get it early from Australia or Europe.......2006-02-08
Season 3 was great compared to season 4, but there are definitely a few gems in 4. It was released in Australia (region 4 DVD, PAL), will be later in Europe (region 2 DVD, PAL), and even later here. It's hard to wait, so I ordered my copy from Australia. The price was actually about the same (including postage) as what I'd expect to pay here. Multiregion DVD players with built-in NTSC-PAL converters are under $100, and I'd recommend to anyone getting other-region DVDs and using this type of a player.

Starsky & Hutch: The Complete Second Season proves the 1970s ABC series, in its sophomore year, both codified its earliest strengths while continuing to evolve into a sharper, wittier, and often darker show. Contributing to those improvements were the stars themselves: David Soul (who plays maverick police detective, intellectual, and health nut Ken Hutchinson) and Paul Michael Glaser (as Hutch's more impulsive, junk-food-junkie partner Dave Starsky), each of whom directed exemplary episodes in season 2. Series creators also struck a more entertaining balance between the comic and dramatic possibilities inherent in Starsky and Hutch's bluntly honest, fraternal relationship. A number of stories placed the guys in intentionally funny undercover situations: as garish gamblers in the two-part opener "The Las Vegas Strangler;" entertainment directors (named Hack and Zack) on a luxury cruise ship in "Murder at Sea;" gigolo-like dance aficionados in the playfully-titled "Tap Dancing Her Way Right Back into Your Hearts;" and, most amusingly, stunt men in "Murder on Stage 17."
Those are all good shows, and the duo often bicker within them, to great comic effect, like an old married couple. (Soul and Glaser's commitment to their schtick as well as their more emotionally raw collaborations is truly admirable.) But it's the relentlessly tougher episodes that prove each character's mettle and demonstrates the depth of Starsky and Hutch's mutual trust. Among these is the powerful "Gillian," in which Starsky discovers Hutch's classy new girlfriend is a prostitute and breaks the news to his shattered friend. Somewhat lighter but just as revealing is "Little Girl Lost," starring a young Kristy McNichol as an orphaned street urchin whom Hutch, lately in a misanthropic, anti-Christmas mood, takes into his home. Glaser's directorial debut, the harrowing "Bloodbath," gives Soul a lot of room for an intensely physical and psychological performance as Hutch scurries to find his kidnapped partner. Soul returns the favor with "Survival," in which Starsky desperately seeks his missing pal, trapped and slowly dying beneath a car wreck. All in all, a very good season, with (of course) Antonio Fargas still sharp as sidekick Huggy Bear. --Tom Keogh

I am really impressed with the quality of the product. Would recommend it to anyone. Will buy again.
Second season still strong as first.......2007-05-31
I've had the second season for some time now and have watched it all the way through at least twice. Writing still very good with good plots. Acting is solid. Some of my favorite episodes were in this season. The main change that I recall and it doesn't bother me as much now was the Main Theme change. I could never understand why it happened in the first place. I did enjoy the original seasons theme song so much more at the time. Still do.
Fantastic show, but no subtitles??.......2007-05-10
Well, this second season is very good. I love the show. I just don't understand why they did not include English subtitles for the hearing handicapped?
Anyway, it was a great show. The chemistry between the leads was amazing. Some people may thin it is a little dated, what is natural. But many episodes still have lasting power.
Love It.......2006-11-06
I remember watching every single episode of Starsky & Hutch when I was a kid. I was so happy when I saw these episodes were being released on DVD. I bought the first season DVD, and loved it - and I love the second season just as much. These definitely look dated, but after all, they're from over thirty years ago. (what!?) They're still cool... Starsky and Hutch have stood the test of time for me. (And I always wanted a car like that!)

It may sound like a gimmick--The Greatest '70s Cop Shows is a compilation of first episodes from Starsky and Hutch, Police Woman, S.W.A.T., The Rookies, and Charlie's Angels--but this DVD anthology really opens one's eyes to the look and feel of dramatic television during the so-called Me Decade. Except for Angels, which never wavered from its self-mocking, glossy action/stiff exposition playbook, these cop-program debuts (four of them from Aaron Spelling) import much of their fluid camera movement, multiple points-of-view, and dynamic, often wordless storytelling from the era's rough-and-tumble action movies (e.g., The French Connection). Which is to say these shows may be dumb but not necessarily cheesy (except Angels' post-modern cheese). There is a lot to admire about the opening ambush in S.W.A.T.'s "The Killing Ground," the hard-boiled camaraderie of Police Woman's "The End Game," and especially the reckless physicality and ironic jokes of Starsky and Hutch's "Savage Sunday." --Tom Keogh

A Starsky and Hutch Fan.......2004-12-06
I love the fact that they are putting out DVD's like this I grew up with all these shows and I love all of them and seeing David Soul (Hutch from Starsky and Hutch, He is Hot !!!!) in it is a plus also !!!!! Starsky and Hutch was my favorite show as a kid and I still love watching it. It is worth the money to buy it with all 5 shows they were some of the best shows on TV in the 70's.
3 stars if you didn't grow up with these shows.......2004-10-25
I was a child of the 70s and remembered these shows fondly. I took them VERY seriously at the time. Now they are instant nostalgia and a hoot. I love the bland studio bars and apartments, the lack of much blood after some serious gun fights, the friendly neo-fascist cops who do their duty & then go party. These are the "first" episodes of each show but that is misleading. Most started as 2 hour movies of the week. These are the first of the on going episodes but in most cases the viewer's second helping.
The Rookies-the most social conscious of the group. The street wise cop who grew up in the 'hood with the very naive suburban kid. Nice sentiments here about getting through to gang members excpet that these guys are psuhing 40 when they should be teens & the slum is obviously a Hollywood backlot with lots of newspapers thrown all over it.
Police Woman-good drama, Angie does some nice touches. The show isn't just about her though, a whole unit so it's kinda misleading. That hippuie undercover has on of the oddest faces to grace a TV screen. And I loved the casual traffic driving past a desperate shoot out early on.
SWAT-Now this felt like a pilot. Like most of SWAT's villains, total psychos. Although no one mentions it, they are sniffing alot during the episode so grown up viewers will know that they are all coked up.
Starsky & Hutch-lame plot but good commadarie. Watch for a sexy cameo but Suzanne Sommers. This show was a little more into innuendo but then came...
Charlie's Angels-not a cop show! This one actually isz the first time we'd seen the Angels. Not bad but the whole Doyle as a preacher bit was grating. I remeber them calling this a "jiggle show" but note the lack of the extra large busts we've come to expect nowadays.
I wish they'd have released the "best" ep of each show rather than the "first", now that would be a 5 star DVD!
Maybe!.......2004-09-27
I captioned this as maybe , because I Love everyone of these shows , and the individual programs chosen for this Collection , but having purchased this , and having watched it . It is great for those last two reason , but let me tell you were the problem lies . Copying these from whatever , or however , from the very first show on the collection you run into the problem that the sound does not match the picure . The words are heard bfore the Lips even move . Now this is regular on the Charlie's Angels show , and sparadically on the others , but I still enjoyed the Collection Purchase very much .
OH.....JUST SHOOT ME!!.......2004-06-03
It was just GREAT having the chance to own this DVD ! I am a big fan of America's Cop Shows and this item was really a "must -have".I just wish they could release more episodes of "The Police Woman" and "The Rookies" ( with Kate Jackson!!!), which are very interesting and which I had never watched before due to they had never been aired here in Brazil."The Angels" are "foxy" as always and you also get a chance to watch "Starski & Hutch" in the same package.
More Angie, please...!.......2004-01-30
"Starsky & Hutch" were entertainingly silly for a couple of years, as were "Charlie's Angels", and "The Rookies" looks earnest but dated and tad naive. "SWAT" is essentially a shoot-em-up with few characters you get to know at all.
Interestingly, the one out of the five (and the one NOT produced by Aaron Spelling) that is easliy the most legitimate cop drama is "Police Woman" with Angie Dickinson--- it feels like a damn movie... something the other four certainly do not.
Funny how memories have written-off this series as a single, older version of a Charlie's Angel who still has her badge but does nothing else but turn "tricks", when, in fact, "Police Woman" seems to be the most sophisticated of the lot; it's aged beautifully.
Instead of packaging this mismatch of fun but otherwise unconnected 70s cop-show memories, let's see a DVD release of at LEAST "Police Woman"s first season, as I seem to remember it was the best year of the show--- and certainly quite removed from the other more comic-strip, though watchable, entries.

A NOSTALGIAC SPOOF OF A ONE TIME POPULAR TV SERIES..........2006-06-04
This is a silly but somewhat funny spoof based on that seventies something television series by the same name, which starred Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) and David Soul (Hutch) in the lead roles. In this film, Ben Stiller plays David Starsky and Owen Wilson plays Ken Hutchinson (Hutch), a pair of cops in the free wheeling, psychedelic haze of the nineteen seventies. Both are viewed as problem children by their superior officer and, consequently, are teamed up as partners. The film is really about how Starsky and Hutch met and became partners, something the television series never addressed.
Ben Stiller is his usually wacky self as the straight arrow, by the book Starsky, while Owen Wilson positively shines as the laid back, irrepressible Hutch. Owen Wilson's natural comedic gifts allow him to effortlessly steal every scene in which he is featured. He is positively infectious! Snoop Dogg does a good job of reprising the role of Huggy Bear, the street informant that keeps Starsky and Hutch in the loop in terms of criminal activity afoot. Snoop Dogg infuses the role with a sort of natural cool and is funny in his own way, though not as endearing as the original Huggy Bear was in the television series. Still, he makes the role his own, as do Stiller and Wilson with theirs.
The movie has a silly plot involving cocaine dealer/business man Reese Feldman, played by Vince Vaughn, who injects the character with just the right amount of sleaze. It appears that Feldman has just come up with a new cocaine that will fool any drug sniffing canine. It is left up to Starsky and Hutch to stop his nefarious scheme, but not without getting themselves involved in some nutty situations along the way. Look for Justin Bateman in the small role of Friday, Feldman's sidekick. Will Ferrell has a small, but pivotal, role as Big Earl, a guy who has some information that Starsky and Hutch need badly enough to...well, see the film. Carmen Electra, Amy Smart, and Juliette Lewis round out the cast and provide the babe factor.
The film is a retro look at the nineteen seventies from its fashions to its music. Look for cameo appearances by Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul. To my surprise, Glaser looks a whole lot better than David Soul, who appears not to have aged well. As to the overall rating of this film, I realize that this film may have limited appeal. Those who liked the Starsky and Hutch television series or who are fans of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson will probably enjoy this goofy, spoofy, sophomoric little film.
