"Do your parents know you're Ramones?" With those withering words, Miss Togar (Mary Woronov), the uptight neofascist principal of Vince Lombardi High School, addresses the four mop-haired, leather-jacketed members of America's first and most famous punk band. And you know it won't be long before the Ramones's jackhammer riffs are blaring through the public address system at maximum volume, the kids are running--not walking--wild in the hallways (without passes!), and Miss Togar's gulag is re-christened "Rock 'n' Roll High School." Then, in keeping with the outrageously nihilistic animus of punk, the high school students and the Ramones just blow the place to smithereens. It's a crowd- pleasing, fantasy-fulfillment climax that combines the apocalyptic finale of Michelangelo Antonioni's Zabriskie Point with the explosive conclusion of Alice Cooper's "School's Out." Rock 'n' Roll High School is a blast, a goofy and liberating salute to the rebel spirit behind the teen rock 'n' roll movies of the 1950s, which always pitted the kids' insatiable appetite for fun against the adults' fear-based authoritarianism. The film is emblematic of the disarmingly silly, tongue-in-cheek humor of the youth-oriented B-pictures cranked out in the '50s and '60s by renowned low-budget exploitation mogul Roger Corman (who gave many a hungry young filmmaker, including the creators of this film, their start in the biz), and of the noisy, anarchic energy of '70s punk rock, as personified by the inimitable Ramones. In the words of the maestros' beach-blanket-buzz-saw title anthem, this movie is "Fun, fun, oh baby, fun, fun..." The digital video disc offers audio commentary by the filmmakers, including director Alan Arkush, a Leonard Maltin interview with Corman, and some audio outtakes of the Ramones. --Jim Emerson

Description
"Allan Arkush had started prepping 'Disco High' when he and Joe Dante came up with a new angle . . . students defy their music-hating principal and turn the schoolhouse into a madhouse! But you just can't tear up high school to Disco music. When The Ramones joined the production, the transition was complete ...ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL was born!" ~~Vince Lombardi High School has quite a reputation: it's the wildest, most rockin' high school around! That is, until a thug of a principal, Miss Togar, comes along and tries to make the school a totalitarian state. With the help of the Ramones, the students of Vince Lombardi battle Miss Togar's iron-fisted rule and take their battle to a truly rockin' conclusion!~~In Memory of Joey Ramone 1951-2001~

70s cult classic.... .......2007-04-28
This is a funny movie with an outstanding soundtrack (Devo, Brian Eno, Nick Lowe and not on the soundtrack album, Velvet Underground..Mary Woronov was also part of Warhol's Factory), and the actors are camping it up big time. Clint Howard (brother of Ron Howard) is hilarious in it.
Old school punk rockers will see some of the Germs in the movie.
The actual high school is El Segundo and the live music at the Roxy in LA.
As far as rock films go, this one works, the Ramones goofing on themselves. It does have some drug scenes in it that are somewhat innocent (Riff getting stoned and the Ramones serenading to her in her bedroom is hilarious) But it's intentionally D-U-M-B.
This exposed The Ramones to a mainstream audience that either got it or didn't, and the songs in the film weren't any of the dark ones like "53rd and 3rd".
This was shown on cable countless times in the early 80s, I think this is the third repackage, but it's got a lot of stuff in it, unfortunately only one of the Ramones contributed, as 3 of them have passed away, and they broke up in '96 under less than great circumstances.
Hopefully this will get back in the midnight movie circuit in some cities.

MAN, I ALWAYS HATED SCHOOL!!!! I glad that in this movie the students TEAR IT APART!!!! and not only that!, the kids smoke pot, smell coke and they invite THE RAMONES to their school so they can "ROCK N' BLOW"!!!!
In this movie you hear a lot of cool rocking soundtracks like Alice Cooper's SCHOOL'S OUT and Brownville Station's SMOKING IN THE BOYS ROOM but the main soundtracks were the RAMONES's in their concert scene. The movie also tells that ROCK is about breaking the rules and going crazy!
Im a 70's fan and a ROCK fan! so for me this movie is VERY SPECIAL!! Another movies like this are Detroit Rock City and Dazed and Confused.
P.S: The ONLY defects of the movie are the audio witch wasn't THAT good and the PG rating witch is wrong! This movie should be rated PG-13 because of the brief nudity and drug use.
Adios.

the box clearly says anamorphic widescreen; that's why I bought it to play on my new widescreen TV. it's not, it's non-anamorphic letterbox so instead of it filling the whole screen, it's now a postage stamp in the middle of my screen. what a gyp! how bout it Buena Vista, where's the enhanced widescreen disc?
other than that, this a pretty cool movie. i've got most of the ramones albums and it's a lot of fun watching them play live. movie recommended, but a word of warning to widescreen TV owners!

hardfind moviefan.......2006-02-19
I was wondering when they would release R&RHS Forever on DVD. I had this movie on video tape but could never find it and possibly presumed it was erased by accident. It looks obvious South Beach Academy would be the double feature because Corey Feldman was also in it.
R&R HS Forever may not have measured up to the original that is now a movie classic, but what drew me, and still does, is just how catchy the music was with Feldman and the Eradicators. I'll admit, Feldman looked like he was trying to channel the now infamous Michael Jackson during his Black/White days, but the group as a whole was great to listen to. I heard a soundtrack was suppose to have been released to coincide with the movie, but Feldman got in some trouble, and the plan was scrapped. Give this movie a try, and try not to compare it to the original...no one can ever replace the Ramones. They were a class act within themselves.

Rock and Roll High School.......2007-01-19
This DVD was exactly as advertised and arrived when promised.
it is a classic .......2007-01-07
It is a classic. A must for any Ramones fan.
A CrAzY, FUNNY, COOL REBEL 70'S ROCK MOVIE!!!!!!!!.......2006-08-28
Adios.
would have given it five stars but it's non-anamorphic!.......2006-07-17
the box clearly says anamorphic widescreen; that's why I bought it to play on my new widescreen TV. it's not, it's non-anamorphic letterbox so instead of it filling the whole screen, it's now a postage stamp in the middle of my screen. what a gyp! how bout it Buena Vista, where's the enhanced widescreen disc?
other than that, this a pretty cool movie. i've got most of the ramones albums and it's a lot of fun watching them play live. movie recommended, but a word of warning to widescreen TV owners!

It's a crowd- pleasing, fantasy-fulfillment climax that combines the apocalyptic finale of Michelangelo Antonioni's Zabriskie Point with the explosive conclusion of Alice Cooper's "School's Out." Rock 'n' Roll High School is a blast, a goofy and liberating salute to the rebel spirit behind the teen rock & roll movies of the 1950s, which always pitted the kids' insatiable appetite for fun against the adults' fear-based authoritarianism. In the words of the maestros' beach-blanket-buzz-saw title anthem, this movie is "Fun, fun, oh baby, fun, fun..." --Jim Emerson
