Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
Even when she's playing a girl with a head full of air in a plot full of holes, Mandy Moore manages to make Chasing Liberty wholesomely appealing. It's too bad that "wholesome," in this case, means frolicking around Prague, Venice, and Berlin as the U.S. President's daughter, eluding Secret Service agents, defying her second-term President father (Mark Harmon, totally miscast), and trusting complete strangers in a world where potential terrorism seems like nothing more than a pesky distraction. In other words, first daughter Anna Foster (Moore) is a complete idiot, oblivious to danger in a fluffy romantic fantasy that's part Roman Holiday (the good part) and part bubble-gum star vehicle. Don't blame Mandy for daring to shed her good-girl image; even her innocent skinnydipping scene was handled by a "butt double," and she's irresistible as she falls for the mutually smitten Secret Service agent (promising newcomer Matthew Goode) assigned to keep her out of harm's way. Another budding romance involving two bickering agents (Annabella Sciorra, Jeremy Piven) is perfunctory at best, but if you're looking for a picturesque, sweet-natured tour of Europe with a pair of likeable lovebirds, Chasing Liberty makes for a pleasantly brief vacation. --Jeff Shannon

Am I Too Old?.......2007-05-27
I think this film was made for the teeny-bopper set and my own daughter (who was a teeny-bopper) dissed it because her set was very critical of Mandy Moore's move from singing to acting. Still, this movie was for ME. A romantic comedy with a cute male lead!
A cute movie.......2007-03-30
While the story line is pretty predictable, I do enjoy the work of Mandy Moore, she is a talented actress that contributed to this movie.
fun movie without the political bs.......2007-03-29
Chasing Liberty does exactly what it is supposed to do: it takes a look at the life of the First Daughter, without choosing political sides or trying to be "politically correct" in a world that is already far too politically correct. Regardless of whether you are a fan of Moore's musical career, it's hard not to find her dazzling as Anna, and Goode looks to have a promising future in the entertainment world. I don't know who hires these so-called "critics" that write the reviews for amazon, but clearly they don't know much about the entertainment world, since they find Moore's character to be an "idiot" to run around Europe, oblivious to terrorism. Now, maybe it's just a temporary IQ drop or something, but seems to me that a self-proclaimed "movie critic" should understand that movies are FICTION and made for ENTERTAINMENT purposes, not necessarily for realism. It's supposed to be fun. If you want to watch people running from terrorists, turn on CNN and watch the war in Iraq. If you want entertainment, ignore the so-called critics and check out Chasing Liberty.
Harmless and fun though unoriginal.......2007-02-25
Mandy Moore goes through the chick flick motions again, as "cute girl with romance problems". On this occasion, her obstacle to romance is the fact she is the President's daughter (Liberty being her Secret Service codename). So, at 18, on a trip to Europe, she escapes the secret service army protecting her, in order to experience real freedom. On the way, she enlists the help of a young English man Ben Calder, played by Mathew Goode. Her father secretly allows it, having decided that she needs to experience `controlled freedom', to get it out of her system. The safety net is that Ben Calder is actually a secret service agent the President has sworn to protect her, and never to reveal his identity.
It's formulaic and undemanding - but in fact hits all the right notes to achieve success in its given genre. Mandy Moore is cute, although she comes across more as spoilt kid than object of sympathy. Mathew Goode plays the role with manner, accent and appeal all directly descended from the Hugh Grant school of acting. Parallel to the main plot, is the more unlikely, but rather funny and more enjoyable building of romance between the two agents who are chasing Liberty across Europe, played by the always worth watching Jeremy Piven, and Annabella Sciorra.
The locations in Prague, Berlin, and especially Venice, make for some visual eye candy helping to maintain some interest for the non teenagers in the crowd.
Guys will no doubt find this schmaltzy, but if you have to watch a chick flick, then this one is better than many out there.
Amazing........2007-02-16
I'm 13 and I love this movie so much! It is really great, I usually never watch movies a second time but this time I was like watching it over and over again! Mandy Moore was amazing and Matthew Goode was too hot! I love it. I recommenced it for people of all ages!

Description
Look out, world, here they come! Amanda Bynes (The Amanda Show) gives high society a makeover in the What a Girl Wants [Side A]. She plays all-American teen Daphne, who travels to London to visit the aristocratic father she never knew...and discovers her free-spirited flair and sense of equality clash with stuffy upper-class attitudes. And some teens will do anything to get out of the house, even the White House. Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember) portrays the President's daughter (codename Liberty), who makes her own declaration of independence by ditching Secret Service agents assigned to her and heading off on a grand adventure through Prague, Venice and London. Catch the fun of Chasing Liberty [Side B].

Description
Alex & Emma -- Alex (Luke Wilson) is an author whose writer's block and gambling debts have landed him in a jam. In order to get loan sharks off his back, he must finish his novel in 30 days or wind up dead. To help him complete his manuscript he hires stenographer Emma (Kate Hudson). As Alex begins to dictate his tale of a romantic love triangle to the charming yet somewhat opinionated stenographer, Emma challenges his ideas at every turn. Her unsolicited yet intriguing input begins to inadvertently influence Alex and his story and soon real life begins to imitate art. Chasing Liberty -- While on a diplomatic trip to Europe with her parents, first daughter Anna (Mandy Moore) escapes the secret service and meets mysterious stranger Ben Calder, who also happens to be an undercover agent.
