It's a good thing Sandra Bullock knows her strengths and weaknesses, because without Bullock as star and producer, Miss Congeniality would be an insufferable mess as opposed to being a mildly enjoyable trifle that is custom-made for Bullock's established screen persona. Only Bullock's fans could really appreciate this fluff (even then they'll wish its ripe premise had been more intelligently handled), but it's not without some highlights to accompany Bullock's reliable charms. Here she plays clumsy, nerdy FBI agent Gracie Hart, who is given the horrific pseudonym Gracie Lou Freebush (one example of the movie's juvenile tendencies) when assigned to infiltrate a beauty pageant to investigate threats of a terrorist attack.
Transforming Bullock from frumpy to stunning is a piece of cake (although she gives pageant coach Michael Caine a run for his money), so the movie's premise is trivial at best. More enjoyable is her character's uncouth disdain for pageant contestants and her mistaken perception that they're all a bunch of bimbos. The movie nicely charts Gracie's realization that her own pageant makeover provides a much-needed ego boost. In addition to Caine's effortless scene-stealing, pageant host William Shatner and organizer Candice Bergen are smart choices for comedic support (Shatner's a perfect Bert Parks wannabe), but the movie desperately needs a credible foundation for its comedy to really pay off. Bullock's bureau boss (Benjamin Bratt) is an unconvincing dimwit, and none of the plotting is as smart as say Beverly Hills Cop in combining procedure with laughs. That leaves Bullock to carry the burden of a comedy that just barely works in her favor. --Jeff Shannon

Description
Sandra Bullock stars as a bumbling female FBI agent assigned to go undercover as a participant in the Miss United States beauty pageant when it is discovered that one of the contestants is being targeted for murder. Benjamin Bratt leads the undercover team, while also playing the reluctant love interest. Candice Bergen and William Shatner manage the pageant and hire Michael Caine to turn Bullock from rough and tumble agent to stunning beauty queen. The physical transformation is impressive, although the klutzy personality remains. Everything seems to be fine once the killer is suddenly caught, but Bullock suspects there is more to this story, and the truth eventually unfolds with an unexpected twist. For her part, Bullock received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress, and heads the star-studded cast in the year's most hilarious comedy.

She's a wiener!**.......2007-05-23
** From the lyrics to Tom Jones' hit song "She's a Lady" (played over the closing credits):
Well, she's all you'll ever want
She's the kind I'd like to flaunt
And take to deener.
Well she always knows her place
She's got style, she's got grace
She's a wiener!
I put off watching this movie for a long time, as I generally don't laugh at the comedies Hollywood produces these days. When I did finally watch, however, I had a wonderful hour and a half. It is an absurd situation - an FBI agent (Sandra Bullock) must transform herself from a tough tomboy to a beauty pageant contestant in just two days in order to thwart a unibomber-type domestic terrorist who has targeted the Miss United States pageant.
Bullock is charming, as is the entire supporting cast - including William Shatner who seems to be having fun in his Bert Parks-like pageant emcee role. Michael Caine glides lightly in his loafers as Bullock's handler and makeover artiste.
All in all, a very enjoyable way to spend an evening. Congratulations to everyone involved in making a light and fun piece of entertainment. "Miss Congeniality" is a real wiener!

I have both movies Miss Congeniality and they are funny comedys. I love Sandra Bullock as an actress.I have other movies she has done and they are also great.
FBI Sandra - rulezzzz !!!.......2007-01-25
The directors have done a superb job. Making Sandra Bullock very believable as a sloppy woman not taking care of herself. Some good comedy and a 'nice' story. A general all round, this film won't have you guessing the plot, but it does invoke that feel good factor.
This film was incredibly funny and it must be viewed several times before all the jokes and gags have been made clear. Fantastic movie!
Just Love this gal! Sandra Bullock is just wonderful in every part she plays!.......2007-01-21
This gal could do a movie standing on her head and I'd love it. She is one of my favorites. She is a gifted actor. She is funny and plays the comedian and yet can take being humiliated like water off a duck! She can be serious and tug at your heart. She is talented enough to meet it all. I have just about movie she performs in. She's a trip...literally!
Miss Congeniality.......2007-01-10
An interesting, if implausible, plot. The story is followable, which is often not true of contemporary films. The plot is well timed.

F.B.I. operative Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) famously went undercover in a beauty pageant a while back, and now she's supposedly so recognizable that her only use to the agency is as a pretty public representative. Dumped by her boyfriend (whom Benjamin Bratt wisely decided not to portray this time around), a gloomy Gracie goes along with the promo biz until her friend, Miss United States (Heather Burns), is kidnapped along with pageant official Stan Fields (William Shatner) in Las Vegas. Bullock still has perk to please her fans, but neither she nor her awkward alter-ego has any purpose in a sequel to a movie released five years prior. The result is a desperately unfunny, feature-length commercial for Las Vegas tourism, with outdated homosexual stereotypes (Diedrich Bader, as Gracie's stylist) and the usually terrific Regina King (of Ray and Jerry Maguire fame) stuck in a glum role as Bullock's butch bodyguard. Armed? Yes. Fabulous? No. --Steve Wiecking
Description
Sandra Bullock returns as Federal Agent Gracie Hart in this action comedy and goes undercover in Las Vegas to rescue her best friend, the Miss United States Pageant winner.
Customer Reviews:
very funny & entertaining..........2007-06-04
sandra & regine great on screen combination of humor, sarcasm and toughness, i totally enjoyed this movie...
I really liked this movie.......2007-04-24
I thought this movie was funny and just as good as the first Miss Congeniality. I love the first, I watch it over and over again. It's such a good movie. The second is just as good, with good actors and a funny storyline. Gracie Hart has become the new face of the FBI and she's suddenly into clothes and even hires a professional stylist and hair and makeup people to take care of her. She goes a little overboard, though, until reality gives her a wakeup call and she finds out that her good friends Cheryl and Stan are captured and she wants to save them. She goes to Las Vegas with another tough female agent named Sam (played by Regina King) and she tries to track down who captured them and where they are being held. She and Sam even go undercover as drag queens at a club in Las Vegas just in order to find out where they are. Gracie and Sam don't get along at first, the both fight and don't like each other. But at the end they actually become good friends. It's a funny movie, Sandra Bullock is such a cool person because she doesn't mind look silly. She dresses up as an old lady at an old folks home, she pretends to have cramps, and she wears silly outfits and is really funny. Regina Kind was good and so was Heather Burns, who I loved in the first movie. It has a great message, too, about being yourself and not caring what other people think of you. In the end Gracie goes back to being a field agent and fighting crime and she looks like herself again. She no longer is interested in fashion and makeup. Gracie also encourages a young girl to be herself, too. She goes to the girl's school because the girl wrote a report about her and speaks in front of the class. Gracie Hart's a good role model for young girls. And so is Sandra Bullock, in real life. Overall, I really loved this movie. I'll buy it and add it to my collection.
surprisingly good.......2007-02-19
I can't believe Sandra Bullock was the main star in a movie I consider good (usually she annoys me the way she tends to mumble nonsense on and on and on) but her role in Miss Congeniality 2 was quite funny, and actually had a bit of seriousness implemented in the storyline. I especially liked that one female cop who took absolutely NO crap from anyone, including Sandra's character. Sandra and this cop had to work together as part of a team. Overall, a fair amount of humor and a surprising amount of action makes Miss Congeniality 2 really good.
Sandra is always Sandra no matter what she does!.......2007-02-17
I just love this girl. This is a must have for fans of Sandra Bullock. Is it as great as the first...no but she still into her antics and full of fun. This is just one of those movies you put in and sit back and just wait on her to make you laugh and shake your head. A fun to have movie.
Love it !!!.......2007-01-25
Agent Gracie Hart is back again only this time she's not meant to do any undercover operations after her cover was blown by an adoring fan. So, with her reputation as an agent on the down and her fame on the up, Gracie is set up as a representative of the U.S police, that's all very well until her friend, and last years Miss America, is kiddnapped along with the pagent host.
Against all odds, and rules, Hart goes off on an other police operation.
This is a hilariously well acted film, matching well up to the standards set by it's predecessor.
Don't listen to these people who say it's bad, it's a funny, slightly tacky, fun film to watch with your friends.
Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
The Films that restarted William Shatner's Career.......2007-04-20
Sandra Bullock's Grace Hart is one of the best character's she ever created. This semi tough FBI agent with a heart of gold is very well expressed in these both Miss Congeniality films.
William Shatner is rediscovered and restarted in these films as the had been (Bert Parks like) MC . He acts the straight man for the humor around him and it works.
In the first film, Hart is sent in to the Miss USA beauty contest to protect the other gitl's and save the day. Benjamin Bratt plays her FBI partner. Micheal Caine is the groomer who makes her from FBI agent to Beauty Queen> Candice Bergan is the show organizer. (Boston Legal fans note, this film was FIRST!)
The second film, Grace who has become an FBI press darling, because everyone knows her from the USA contest and she can not go undercover. She has written a book and goes on press tours showcasing the NEW FBI. She is saddled with a partner who does not like her and comedy tensions ensue. Miss USA and the show's MC is kidnapped and Grace is on the case
Dont expect these films to be like the POLICE ACADEMY films, but dont expect to be great Oscar film making either...its good set of films to enjoy for just the laughes

Description

Enjoy!

"Miss Congeniality" is a real wiener!
vampire Heart.......2007-05-13

If you are one of Hilary Duff's most ardent pre-teen fans, chances are you'll find something to enjoy in A Cinderella Story, but everyone else should proceed with caution. It's an updated fairy tale for the age of instant messaging, which is how Sam (Duff) develops a crush on Austin (Chad Michael Murray) before realizing that this Tennyson-quoting poet-at-heart is actually her San Fernando Valley high school's star quarterback and most desirable hunk. In a role that squanders her proven comedic gifts, Jennifer Coolidge is Sam's Botox-injected evil stepmother, and lame attempts at comedy turn her dimwitted stepsisters into buffoons, like many of the other cast members who struggle to find anything funny in the screenplay. So we're left with the bland, blonde charms of Hilary Duff, who fared better in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, but manages to salvage her mainstream appeal in a comedy for which "cute" is not necessarily a compliment. --Jeff Shannon

Two of my favorite movies of all time.......2006-07-07
Miss Congeniality is really funny and it's a comedy and Sandra Bullock is just stellar as Federal Agent Gracie Hart and it's a great movie for girls to see. Michael Caine and Candice Bergen are great, too. A Cinderella Story is so cool and it stars the beautiful and talented Hilary Duff as sweet Sam, a young girl who lives with her wicked stepmother and has to work at a diner. In the end, however, she stands up for herself and even gets the cute guy in the end. She also gets to go to college. Both movies are funny and entertaining, and well acted and well written.

SHE IS ARMED...AND SHE IS FABULOUS..........2006-06-22
As a sequel, this film surprisingly succeeds. Sandra Bullock, with her coltish good looks and her spot on comedic timing, successfully reprises the role of Gracie Hart, FBI agent. In fact, I enjoyed this film even more than I did the prequel, where Gracie Hart infiltrated a national beauty pageant as a contestant, her affableness winning her the award for Miss Congeniality.
It now appears, however, that Agent Hart's ability to work effectively as an agent has been compromised by the publicity that she received from her entry into that national beauty pageant. Gracie Hart is now instantly recognizable, whenever she hits the streets, by an adoring public who has taken to her as a duck takes to water.
This being the case, the powers that be at the FBI decide to make Agent Hart into a poster girl for the FBI, and she is given a mini entourage to polish their diamond in the rough. By the time they get through with her, Agent Hart is as slick and as polished as a cover girl, temporarily losing sight of why she joined the FBI in the first place.
Agent Hart is assigned a bodyguard, problem child agent, Sam Fuller (Regina King), who has some serious anger management issues. They get initially get along together like oil and water, with some funny comedic moments between the two. Ultimately, at the eleventh hour, their relationship evolves into one of mutual respect.
When Agent Hart's best friend, Miss United States (Heather Burns), is kidnapped in Las Vegas, along with pageant official Stan Fields (William Shatner), Agent Hart remembers why it was that she joined the FBI in the first place. Although she is brought into the case strictly as a media liaison, she desperately wants to be taken seriously as an agent on the case, Unfortunately, her investigative efforts are stymied by the local FBI chief, Agent Collins (Treat Williams), who views her as expendable fluff.
While the storyline may be thin, at times, there are enough memorable moments to sustain the film, not least being the excellent comedic performances given by Sandra Bullock and Regina King. It is a professionally successful pairing of two talented actresses with a flair for the comedic. Sandra Bullock proves, once again, that one can be gorgeous and funny. For Regina King, the role of Sam Fuller is a breakout comedic role for her.
Moreover, the supporting cast is likewise funny. William Shatner, who of late has proven himself to have a deft comedic touch, provides some wacky moments. It was also great to see Treat Williams, who is as attractive as ever, playing the role of Agent Collins, the tightly controlled, ego driven, local FBI chief who seeks to wrap up the case successfully for his own personal aggrandizement. Elizabeth Rohm, of Law and Order fame, is a pleasant surprise in the small role of Carol Fields, the FBI agent who is two timing her fellow agent boyfriend with their mutual boss.
Although the film has some plot holes and may be implausible, at times, it still provides some enjoyable comedic moments. There are also cameo appearances by Regis Philbin and his wife, Joy. While this film may not be everyone's cup of tea, fans of Ms. Bullock will surely enjoy seeing her in this one. This funny, silly movie is definitely worth a rental.

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD ENTERTAINMENT..........2004-08-31
These are two films that are moderately entertaining, though neither of them are must see films. Rent, rather than buy, them. This way one will not be unduly disappointed.
There is nothing divine about the film, "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", which is a film about mother/daughter relationships and about unconditional love. Despite being marked by fine performances, the film never really grabs the viewer, at least, not this viewer. While moderately enjoyable, I found the film to fall a little flat, as the whole Ya-Ya thing left me cold, finding it all a bit silly.
Not having read the book of the same name upon which the film is based, I had no frame of reference. Judging strictly on the merits of the film, I found that it has its ups and downs. The name of the film is apparently derived from a childhood club to which a group of lifelong friends belonged as children in which they were all Ya-Ya priestesses. These friends, of which Vivi (Ellyn Burstyn) is at the center of this story, are all trying to reconcile Vivi to her daughter Sidda (Sandra Bullock). The friends, as well as Vivi, are all aging southern belles from Louisiana. Sidda, however, has moved North, where she is a budding, successful playwright.
Sidda had a traumatic childhood, as her mother is a mercurial woman with a drinking problem. It seems that Vivi never got over losing her childhood sweetheart during the war. She married another man, Shep Walker (James Garner), Sidda's father and a man who has loved Vivi unconditionally throughout their entire married life, and proceeded to put her husband and her children through a living hell. Still, Vivi and Sidda manage to plod along as so many mothers and daughters do, until Vivi goes too far and Sidda decides that enough is enough.
The story of Vivi, Sidda, and Shep is told in flashbacks, which provide the most interesting parts of the movie. Ashley Judd is simply sensational as the young Vivi, and she outshines all the film and stage veterans in this film, infusing the role with a gritty reality. David Lee Smith is very good as the hunky young Shep, the husband who tries to understand a mercurial wife who has become unbalanced by her longing for what could never be.
Ellen Burstyn as the senior Vivi is not as compelling as the younger one portrayed by Ashley Judd. The senior Vivi comes across as a silly, petulant, spoiled, self-absorbed woman who needs a good swift kick in the butt. Consequently, the viewer cares very little for what happens to her, even though she is eventually reconciled to her daughter and comes to appreciate her patient, selfless husband.
Maggie Smith, Fionnula Flanagan, and Shirley Knight are all excellent as Vivi's lifelong friends, though Ms. Smith occasionally seems to have a bit of difficulty suppressing her British accent.. They inject a touch of humor into their attempts to reconcile the estranged Vivi and Sidda, which is a good counterpoint to the underlying pathos of the film. Sandra Bullock is also excellent as the fed up Sidda, who has said that enough is enough. As in all her film, she charms the viewer. James Garner is wonderful as Vivi's long suffering husband, who comes to be appreciated by Vivi only at the end.
Unfortunately, the director appears to have striven for mawkishness. Consequently, the ending of this film is enough to make one gag, as Sidda is inducted into the Ya-Ya sisterhood. This alone is enough for me to counsel viewers to rent, and not buy, this film.
The film, "Miss Congeniality", is a moderately entertaining, if forgettable, comedy. It showcases Ms. Bullock's comedic talents, if nothing else. The premise of the film revolves around the need for an FBI agent to go undercover as a contestant during a beauty pageant, due to intelligence reports that indicate that the pageant may be subject to a terrorist attack. Before she knows it, FBI agent Gracie Hart, a tomboyish, klutzy, and nerdy female, who snorts when she laughs, is assigned to the job. A beauty pageant coach, deliciously played by Michael Caine, is assigned to turn our erstwhile beast into a beauty. He succeeds admirably, as he has a lot with which to work.
Ms. Bullock plays her role with somewhat ham handed determination. Still, she manages to charm. Her supporting cast, which includes Benjamin Bratt, as her fellow agent and potential love interest, and Candace Bergen and William Shatner, as the pageant hosts, act as comedic foils. The pageant contestants also provide a number of light hearted screen moments. This is a comedy that is easy enough to enjoy, though predictable, as long as one's expectations are not inordinately high. Rent it, as it is not a keeper.
