The Wedding Date's Pretty Woman-in-reverse plot finds Kat Kat Ellis (Messing) hiring expensive male escort Nick Mercer (Mulroney) to fly to London and pose as her dashing new boyfriend at her sister's wedding so she can face the best man, an ex-fiancé who broke her heart. Non-fans of the stars or romantic comedies in general beware: there's no real chemistry or conflict, and you should alert the media if you can determine exactly when and why Kat and Nick fall in love. Mulroney has nothing to do but be sensitively suave--the film's entire running time is spent waiting for Kat to realize that Nick, hooker or no, is the best thing that ever happened to her (her father may be cinema's first dad to ever encourage his daughter to snare a gigolo while she still can). I bought The Wedding Date because of the music. It is wonderful. It is a very well done movie and one people can relate to. Debra Messing is one of my favorite actresses and Dermot Mulroney is so handsome and has become one of my favorite actors.

I started watching this DVD several times before I could finally move past Debra Messing's childish portrayal of an embarassing, victim of a grown woman. Once I did--it really wasn't so bad. Great supporting character roles, plus writing that portrays how really dreadful some families can be to their offspring and best of all-- Delmot Mulroney acting like the only reasonable(and gorgeous) adult in the entire film.
Watching him inhabit his character creates a pleasant and believeable fantasy world--just imagine if cool, caring guys were available out there to safely rent. This is a perfect movie to complete house chores and be entertained while still accomplish something else.

Sophomoric is too weak a word by at least half to describe the utter silliness Date Movie revels in at every turn. But that's exactly the point of this effort in lowbrow slapstick that proudly proclaims it was created by two of the six writers of the Scary Movie franchise. Adhering to the same spoof formula of those movie romps, Date Movie lampoons countless other current movie characters and plot themes, plus a few that might be a little old for the core audience of youngsters to remember. Date Movie isn't quite as successful in keeping the gags at the same pace they came in the Scary Movies, but it will certainly satisfy those with a taste for tasteless humor. The wisp of a story involves fat girl Julia Jones, played by Alyson Hannigan, who quickly becomes as thin and pretty as she was in the American Pie movies and on TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You'll lose count how many movie references writer/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer throw in her path as she searches for true love in a world gone mad. Hitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Meet the Fockers, King Kong, Lord of the Rings, When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, Bridget Jones' Diary, and Kill Bill, are just a few of the movies that get unkindly homage. There's also plenty of flatulence, mild sexual ribaldry, and the kind of bad taste humor that will utterly delight the pubescent and teenage audience this movie was made for. --Ted Fry

You guys really need to get a sense of humor here. Yes, it is childish, yes it is adolescent and yes it is very stupid but there are parts that are damn funny. I really liked this movie and you have to watch it like you are viewing the absurd which you are. This movie is for people that like parodies of other movies taking it to the extreme. I recommend this movie to anyone that has a sense of humor for the absurd. So, put a smile on, sit back and laugh. It won't crack your face.

With most movies, I'm pretty reasonable. I try to give them a chance. One of my frieds wanted to see it, so my girlfriend and I went with him. After watching this movie, I felt I could have wiped my A#S with my $8.75 instead of sitting through this abortion of a movie.

I know that spoof movies are supposed to be stupid and funny, but this movie was heavy in stupid, and very light in funny. I've never heard a theater so quiet in a comedy. I think I only heard chuckles during three parts in the movie. The writers just tried too hard to be funny. The movie might have been better if they had concentrated on a few movies and used acting to make it funny, instead of watching a fake cat taking a crap on a toilet. And even that could have been funny if they hadn't made the segment a couple of minutes long.

I compare this movie with what a guy from our high school did for a talent show. He thought it would be funny to put on a penguin suit and waddled around to classical music. Maybe funny in premise, but turned out to be the most akward and stupid three minutes I've watched.

Now take that three minutes of stupidity, multiply it by 30, and you have "Date Movie." The only saving grace of this movie is that it's short.

The writers of this movie thought that referencing dozens of different movies would make a comedy. No. There has to be jokes, funny jokes. There needs to be something humorously said about the original films to make it a satire. I have seen many of the films this movie "spoofs" including Napoleon Dynamite, When Harry Met Sally, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Hitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Wedding Planner, Jerry Maguire, Sleepless in Seattle, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and ALL of them are funnier than Date Movie. It really is pointless to spoof comedies. The writers don't even reference date movies all the time. They reference King Kong, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and it doesn't work. Even the so-so Scary Movie films have something to say about the films they are spoofing. Not only was it terribly unfunny, it was sick. I like Monty Python and American Pie but when a cat starts humping a decayed human torso I draw the line.
The writers of this film also made Epic Movie. I saw Date Movie on DVD. I will not see Epic Movie ever or any other film made by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. It is a sad time in our world and an extremely small part of that sadness is the fact that movies like these are made and make millions at the box office.

This movie was highly dissapointing.
I did not have high expectations going into it (from what friends have told me) but I really wanted to watch it. It was horrid! There was way too many spoofs. Yes some were funny (the only real memorable one was the spoof when she stood over the subway train air vent dancing to cool off).
All in all this movie was shockingly sad. They could have had a great movie - but alas they didn't.
Do your self a favor and do not buy or rent this movie.
If it was possible to give something 0 stars i would, but * is the lowest it goes. Date Movie gets that *.

This is a great DVD if one is just learning how to slow dance. This should probably be the first dance one learns. Shawn and Joanna do a great job in explaining lead and follow basics. The DVD gives enough information to learn the basics with overwhelming the viewer. Clear, concise explainations. Excellent!

My love and I just started working through this dvd together in preparation for our upcoming wedding. We're only a third of the way through the dvd, but I already can tell I won't be feeling like an idiot or stomping all over her feet during our first dance and that makes both of us pretty happy.

The teaching structure is that Shawn and Joanna demonstrate each of the basic moves together. Then Shawn takes you through the man's part nice and slow showing not just the footwork, but also the principles of how you lead your lady to execute the particular move.

He shows most of the moves several times before Joanna shows the ladies their parts in much the same fashion. If it's still not slow enough (hey I'm a klutz afterall) you can always replay the segment and the great thing is your instructors will never get frustrated that it's the 949th time you've made them demonstrate the move.

Once you've both seen and practiced your parts you get the opportunity to walk through the process together as Shawn and Joanna show you the whole thing -- usually 2-3 times.

The chapter divisions are very convenient and easily called from the menu so after you both think you have mastered a basic move you can turn on the stereo and start testing the moves out to a nice slow romantic song of your choice till you really feel like you're ready to go back to the dvd and learn the next piece of the dance.

If your inspiration starts to wane there's a very nice segment at the end where Shawn and Joanna put it altogether and really show you how a man can show off the woman he loves on the dance floor on that special occasion. Every time I watch it, I'm ready to go back to practicing again.

My fiance and I are using this DVD to practice for our upcoming wedding. We have viewed other dance tapes but Shawn's are the only one's that show how to lead and follow. The steps are broken down clearly and at a good pace for beginners. The only additional feature that might be helpful would be to view the dancers dancing to music. Customer service is excellent. I have both emailed and called Shawn directly to ask for imput on our "First Dance".
We are so hopeful that we can learn to dance with lessons from Shawn and Joanna that I have just ordered a second DVD on Country Dancing.

I highly recommend this DVD for beginner dancers who want to learn the proper way to lead & slow dance your partner on the dance floor. Shawn and his his wife break down the steps in a way that is easy to follow, even if you've never danced before. I purchased this DVD to learn for my upcoming wedding. I thought I would have to pay for private lessons to learn; now that I got this DVD I know I won't have to do that. This DVD is great and you won't be disappointed; you also save money from paying for private lessons.

    Sophomoric is too weak a word by at least half to describe the utter silliness Date Movie revels in at every turn. But that's exactly the point of this effort in lowbrow slapstick that proudly proclaims it was created by two of the six writers of the Scary Movie franchise. Adhering to the same spoof formula of those movie romps, Date Movie lampoons countless other current movie characters and plot themes, plus a few that might be a little old for the core audience of youngsters to remember. Date Movie isn't quite as successful in keeping the gags at the same pace they came in the Scary Movies, but it will certainly satisfy those with a taste for tasteless humor. The wisp of a story involves fat girl Julia Jones, played by Alyson Hannigan, who quickly becomes as thin and pretty as she was in the American Pie movies and on TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You'll lose count how many movie references writer/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer throw in her path as she searches for true love in a world gone mad. Hitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Meet the Fockers, King Kong, Lord of the Rings, When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, Bridget Jones' Diary, and Kill Bill, are just a few of the movies that get unkindly homage.     You guys really need to get a sense of humor here. Yes, it is childish, yes it is adolescent and yes it is very stupid but there are parts that are damn funny. I really liked this movie and you have to watch it like you are viewing the absurd which you are. This movie is for people that like parodies of other movies taking it to the extreme. I recommend this movie to anyone that has a sense of humor for the absurd. So, put a smile on, sit back and laugh. It won't crack your face.

    With most movies, I'm pretty reasonable. I try to give them a chance. One of my frieds wanted to see it, so my girlfriend and I went with him. After watching this movie, I felt I could have wiped my A#S with my $8.75 instead of sitting through this abortion of a movie.

    I know that spoof movies are supposed to be stupid and funny, but this movie was heavy in stupid, and very light in funny. I've never heard a theater so quiet in a comedy. I think I only heard chuckles during three parts in the movie. The writers just tried too hard to be funny. The movie might have been better if they had concentrated on a few movies and used acting to make it funny, instead of watching a fake cat taking a crap on a toilet. And even that could have been funny if they hadn't made the segment a couple of minutes long.

    I compare this movie with what a guy from our high school did for a talent show. He thought it would be funny to put on a penguin suit and waddled around to classical music. Maybe funny in premise, but turned out to be the most akward and stupid three minutes I've watched.

    Now take that three minutes of stupidity, multiply it by 30, and you have "Date Movie." The only saving grace of this movie is that it's short.

    The writers of this movie thought that referencing dozens of different movies would make a comedy. No. There has to be jokes, funny jokes. There needs to be something humorously said about the original films to make it a satire. I have seen many of the films this movie "spoofs" including Napoleon Dynamite, When Harry Met Sally, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Hitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Wedding Planner, Jerry Maguire, Sleepless in Seattle, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and ALL of them are funnier than Date Movie. It really is pointless to spoof comedies. The writers don't even reference date movies all the time. They reference King Kong, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and it doesn't work. Even the so-so Scary Movie films have something to say about the films they are spoofing. Not only was it terribly unfunny, it was sick. I like Monty Python and American Pie but when a cat starts humping a decayed human torso I draw the line.
    The writers of this film also made Epic Movie. I saw Date Movie on DVD. I will not see Epic Movie ever or any other film made by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. It is a sad time in our world and an extremely small part of that sadness is the fact that movies like these are made and make millions at the box office.

    This movie was highly dissapointing.
    I did not have high expectations going into it (from what friends have told me) but I really wanted to watch it. It was horrid! There was way too many spoofs. Yes some were funny (the only real memorable one was the spoof when she stood over the subway train air vent dancing to cool off).
    All in all this movie was shockingly sad. They could have had a great movie - but alas they didn't.
    Do your self a favor and do not buy or rent this movie.
    If it was possible to give something 0 stars i would, but * is the lowest it goes. Date Movie gets that *.

    If you're a fan of the frazzled comic rhythms Debra Messing plies on Will & Grace, or if you're pre-sold on the concept of Dermot Mulroney as the world's most dashing heartthrob--an idea given ample evidence here--this escapist romance may provide just enough distraction. The Wedding Date's Pretty Woman-in-reverse plot finds Kat Kat Ellis (Messing) hiring expensive male escort Nick Mercer (Mulroney) to fly to London and pose as her dashing new boyfriend at her sister's wedding so she can face the best man, an ex-fiancé who broke her heart. Non-fans of the stars or romantic comedies in general beware: there's no real chemistry or conflict, and you should alert the media if you can determine exactly when and why Kat and Nick fall in love. Mulroney has nothing to do but be sensitively suave--the film's entire running time is spent waiting for Kat to realize that Nick, hooker or no, is the best thing that ever happened to her (her father may be cinema's first dad to ever encourage his daughter to snare a gigolo while she still can).     I bought The Wedding Date because of the music. It is wonderful. It is a very well done movie and one people can relate to. Debra Messing is one of my favorite actresses and Dermot Mulroney is so handsome and has become one of my favorite actors.

    I started watching this DVD several times before I could finally move past Debra Messing's childish portrayal of an embarassing, victim of a grown woman. Once I did--it really wasn't so bad. Great supporting character roles, plus writing that portrays how really dreadful some families can be to their offspring and best of all-- Delmot Mulroney acting like the only reasonable(and gorgeous) adult in the entire film.
    Watching him inhabit his character creates a pleasant and believeable fantasy world--just imagine if cool, caring guys were available out there to safely rent. This is a perfect movie to complete house chores and be entertained while still accomplish something else.
