With a nod to Preston Sturges's classic dark comedy Unfaithfully Yours (about a man who fantasizes about murdering his possibly philandering wife), this 1980 cotton-candy-feminist-vendetta film concerns a monstrous boss (Dabney Coleman) whose more capable underlings dream of ways of punishing him. That much of the film is particularly fun, but the rest of it descends into silliness when the women stumble onto a real-life opportunity to teach him a lesson. Fonda, the biggest star in the film at the time, takes a back seat to Parton's and Tomlin's showier roles. Written and directed by the late Colin Higgins (who made a lot of people happy in the '70s with his script for the beloved Harold and Maude). --Tom Keogh

On the DVD
What's on the "Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot Edition" DVD of one of the more enduring comedies of the 1980s? The cast were obviously delighted for the opportunity to travel down memory lane, providing a commentary. Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin recorded their bits in one city while Jane Fonda recorded hers simultaneously in another city, as they watched the movie again together. The three leads--one, Parton, a rookie actress--made for a well-balanced comedic team whose friendship has endured off-screen for 25 years, a friendship that comes across in their banter. A "Nine At 25" featurette finds the cast and producer dishing such tidbits as the fact Parton came to the set having memorized the entire script, everyone else's parts included. A "9 to 5" karaoke feature may entertain depending on how many drinks one has had at the office party, but the words don't always seem in sync with the music.
To celebrate the release of this edition of 9 to 5, the cast, sans Dabney Coleman, reunited in Los Angeles for a party in which Dolly sang the theme song, memories were shared, and actresses dressed as '80s office workers acted busy in cubicles and reception desks.
The Cast of 9 to 5 Celebrate 25 Years of Sticking It to the Boss (click for larger image)
Description
In this witty, satirical farce, secretaries Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and office manager Lily Tomlin live every female worker's dream after discovering they share the same resentment towards their egotistical, sexist boss (Dabney Coleman). When they get an unexpected chance to take revenge, they turn their male controlled workplace into a modle office - even as their scheme spins wildly out of control.

9 to 5 is an extroadinary movie packed full of comedy. The song 9 to 5 is catchy and I love this movie. Having it for that cheap is even better.
Fair.......2007-03-25
The overall DVD is fair...it's not really any different than the VHS version except for a few extras. The extras aren't really that good anyway. The movie itself is entertaining...but the movie is pretty stupid and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I was surprised that so many curse words were used in this film...way too many. The usage of bad words is so prevalent that it becomes irritating after a while. Seriously, I would not want my kids to watch this film because after hearing the same curse word about 50 times...they are bound to start saying it. I was displeased at the number of bad words used...and they should definitely have used less. Overall movie is okay...not great though. Not really worth the price. The plot of the movie is rather dumb and I thought several parts were very inappropriate to view.
Great Movie, Bad DVD Transfer!.......2007-03-23
I purchased 9 To 5 - Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot Edition - Widescreen DVD and was really excited as 9 to 5 is one of my favorite films. I expected alot from this DVD as I heard it had alot of extras and a brand new remastered transfer. Well only half my expectations were met. The extras were great, they included deleted scenes, audio commentary, featurettes and more. The only problem was with the supposed new remastered transfer. When compared to the previous bare bones copy, it just didn't stack up. I did notice that alot of the cracks and pops were removed but the film was very dark. Where as the older transfer was very bright. Another thing I noticed was the audio track on the new transfer sounded very distorted and muffled. I quickly send this DVD back as I wasn't having this awful transfer. When you purchase this DVD you have to think to yourself, what is more important the movie transfer or the extras it provides. With me, the extras just wasn't enough to make me keep this DVD. I would say if you're a hardcore 9 To 5 fan, you will be very happy with the extras but very disppointed in the DVD transfer.
Still Looking good after 25 years and working from 9 to 5.......2007-03-17
This film was so funny when I first saw over 20 years ago and it still has its magic 20 years on. The three main actress were perfect for each of their roles and this was Dolly Parton's first film but she never showed it she seemed as though she had been doing it for a long time. Jane Fonda did a wonderful job at being the new girl in the office and durring the film she became strong and confident and Lily Tomlin was perfect as the overlooked worker and taken for granted. So if you like great comedy with a message then get Nine to five. The hospital scene and the scenes following are very funny and you will have a great laugh.
I love this movie!.......2007-01-08
I grew up watching this and got it for my boss for boss's day last year.
If your boss is a sexist egotistical lying hypocritical biggot, then this movie is for you! Mine's not, but I still love it!

Product Description
just another day at the office. Nine to Five, captures North America's hardest-working riders both on and off the trails. When they aren't hitting the books, framing a house or tuning an engine, these blue-collar boys and gals are punching the clock on gravity in the streets, on the mountain and in the skate park. Uncovers up-and-coming riders from Whistler, Vancouver, Washington State, Santa Cruz, California and Toronto where footage is taken of them riding in their own backyards, whether they are flying over the roof of a Jeep Cherokee or raring up a crowd with a back flip, one foot, x-up at a local dirt jump bike competition. Expect the big hucks and even bigger air of any great action film. Filmmaker Kevin Hardiman approaches the film from an artistic stand point and it results in a unique perspective on mountain biking and enables the viewer to experience the full thrill and excitement of the sport.
