Product Description
From the director of The Sandlot comes this fun-filled sequel that proves the power of teamwork and celebrates the magic of friendship. Ten years after the original story, the local dirt field is no "home" to a new group of neighborhood kids who get together to share laughs, show off...and play ball! But the gang faces their toughest challenge as they try to retrieve an irreplaceable model rocket that lands in Mr. Mertle's (James Earl Jones) backyard behind left field - a forbidden territory guarded by a legendary beast know as "The Great Fear."
Amazon.com
A decade has passed in the small town where the original Sandlot gang banded together during the summer of '62 to play baseball and battle the Beast. Now comes the sequel, a campy romp back to the dugout where nine new kids descend on the diamond only to discover that a descendant of the Beast lives in Mr. Mertle's backyard--a monster of mythical proportions known as "The Great Fear." Director/writer David Evans cleverly ties his two films together by introducing Johnnie Smalls, kid brother of Scotty Smalls ("You're killin' me, Smalls") who is well-versed in the legendary struggle for possession of the Babe Ruth baseball. Smalls befriends the sandlot gang (which now includes three girls) and its leader, David Vincent Durango, and relates the rumor of "a mutated, insane Bigfoot dog thing" behind the left field fence. Summer unfolds with baseball rivalries, rocket launchers, and the infamous Carnival kissing booth, but fate will forever change the history of the sandlot when a crisis forces Smalls and Durango to join forces against The Fear. Regardless of one's sentiments on sequels, Evans' writing in this remake is nearly as fresh and full of memorable quips as the original, including his characteristically understated narration. And while the film may be faulted for its forced melodrama and unseasoned cast, James Earl Jones lends his star appeal and the 70s soundtrack will make you wish for the days when fireworks were legal. Rated PG for profanity and raunchy humor. (Ages 6 to 14) --Lynn Gibson
Customer Reviews:
How is this a sequel??.......2007-05-29
This is not a sequel to Sandlot.. It's a HORRIBLE remake.. the scenes are almost exactly the same but cheesier.. blech.. I can't believe they tried to murder the original. Shame on whoever made this.
Just a Special Feature.......2007-05-14
This dvd may be good for fans of the original movie only because of the Special Feature "Sandlot Kids: Then and Now" which has interviews and behind the scenes shots of the original films cast.
For a better follow up story to "The Sandlot" I'd recommend the recently released "Sandlot 3 Heading Home".
Meet The Sandlot's little annoying brother .......2007-04-13
Usually when a sequel is made it goes out of its way to be different than the original, even if the original was a classic film. This one, despite trying to be everything that the original Sandlot was, fails miserably.
First of all, there is no real personality to the characters like there was in the first one. This might just be the acting, the script, or a combination of both. There is no sense of camaraderie between the characters in comparsion to the original Sandlot. The stupidity of some scenes don't fall into the "fun" category that we might excuse in a kid's movie. Instead, this movie's production seemed rushed and out to profit from the first film. We see this with so many of the same scenes and conflicts from the first film: the battle for the sandlot, the insults being thrown between the two rival teams, hitting the ball over the fence and having to retrieve it, the legend, etc. If there is one difference, it is that it is supposed to be 10 years later, and there are 3 girls on the team.
Sometimes you can forgive a movie for being unoriginal and poor. But, not this one.
The average 2 star rating given to this film is about right on I'd say.
doesn't get any better.......2006-11-10
My 5 and 8 year old loved the first sandlot and so I ventured to buy this one. They love it! I was very impressed. It is a clean family movie that I feel comfortable letting them watch. They watched it over and over again. I think you will be very pleased.
Movie made for money.......2006-09-24
Not worth seeing if you have seen the first one...all this move does is mirror the first sandlot. Change the names add a couple of girls and maybe switch the script around and Sandlot 1 and 2 are pretty much the same. I bet you could watch them at the same time and the timing would be right but the words would be different. Not worth buying if you have the first one. Which I will add is an awsome movie. This movie should have never been made...stay away from S2 because the only purpose of this movie was to make the director some more money and make you poor.

When egghead Scotty Smalls moves to town just before the summer vacation of 1962, his first priority is to make friends. He heads to the nearby sandlot only to humiliate himself before the local kids, but star player Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez befriends the awkward boy, teaches him the basics of baseball, and welcomes him to the team. It's a summer filled with camaraderie and fun until Smalls hits his first home run. Problem is, Smalls's home run sends his stepfather's "Babe Ruth" autographed baseball into a neighboring yard that's patrolled by a snarling, slobbering monster called "The Beast." Creativity reigns and hilarity ensues when the boys risk everything to retrieve the ball. A final heroic encounter with "The Beast" and his owner yields some very surprising results. Action, humor, and friendship permeate this 101-minute film appropriate for ages 5 and older. Rated PG due to name-calling and some pubescent behavior. --Tami Horiuchi

My grandson's favorite.......2007-05-22
He is 7. We watched it once awhile ago. He talked so much about that great movie with the big dog that I finally sent him one of his own!
A Classic, lots of laughs!.......2007-05-07
Great movie for a baseball lover or someone who loves to laugh!
I had this on VHS for a bit and was glad when it was releasedon DVD. Now it will last FOR-EV-ERR!
A funny and classic baseball-worship kind of movie.......2007-04-12
Scotty Smalls moves to Los Angeles in the early 60's just two weeks before the 5th grade school year ends, which isn't enough time to make friends before summer vacation. He's still getting used to his new step-father and doesn't know how to catch or throw a baseball, and to make matters worse doesn't even know who the "Great Bambino" is. Some of the neighborhood kids gather every day at "the sandlot," their own personal baseball kingdom, and he tries to casually join them. But it isn't until Bennie Rodriguez, the best and most ardent player of them all, asks him to join and gives him the confidence he needs to learn to play. It makes for the best summer of his life and lifelong friendships, especially when he unknowingly uses a baseball signed by Babe Ruth, and hits it over the fence into the yard of "The Beast," a huge baseball-eating dog.
This is one of those classic baseball-worship movies on a par with "Field of Dreams" and other favorites. Plus, it's a great family movie with few profanities - it's funny and the things the kids do and say resonate with everyone whether or not you grew up playing another sport or in another time period. My kids love to watch it regularly, and I'm impressed with how good some of the children actors are (James Earl Jones also has a bit part at the end). I especially like the scene where they play baseball against the "rich kids" on their real baseball field (mostly because it's the field where I played Little-League as a kid - which wasn't on the "rich" side of town and it's not really LA!), but my kids like the pool scene.
Excellent movie for young baseball players.......2007-03-31
Bought this for my 8 year old grandson for his birthday and although he never heard of it, he absolutely loved it and had to go out and buy the Sandlot 2 right away! Nice, clean, fun with a learning behind it (of course).
NOT A BASEBALL FAN, BUT GOOD MOVIE.......2007-03-26
IM NOT A BIG BASEBALL FAN SO TO ME THIS MOVIE WAS OK. THE ACTORS ARE REALLY GOOD AND THEY MAKE IT AN EXCITING MOVIE TO WATCH EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A BASEBALL FAN! THE BEST PART IS THE "KISS"

Baseball & Life Lessons.......2007-06-12
My 3 year old & 5 year old LOVE these movies! Ties in well with their tball games & long summer days playing with kids in the neighborhood. Although there are some naughty words & name-calling, my kids know what words & actions are right & wrong so they know not to repeat those parts of the movies-or they will not be able to watch these favorite movies anymore. More importantly, my kids enjoy watching the comraderie between the kids in the movies, see the importance of practice to get better at a sport, they see that friends come in different shapes & sizes, with different quirks & levels of talent & best of all that the "coolest" guy in the movie is especially cool because he sticks up for the underdog.
Buy both of them but sell part 2!.......2006-04-03
I agree that Sandlot 1 is a classic but part 2 doesn't seem to belong. I just didn't like the sequel as much as the first but the first one you must keep do not keep 2 just give it away once you buy the pack.
?FAMILY FUN? ?FAMILY FEATURE? (zero star).......2006-03-16
I do not understand how a movie can be deemed for the family with words like SH** etc, in it. What kind of "FAMILY" thinks profanity is OK? Not just profanity but profanity coming from CHILDREN!!!!! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! or what? No, I did not complete even the first movie once I heard the "S" word. I was afraid to even play the second one. So I am out of the cost of the two DVD's. The only thing they are fit for is the garbage.
Thank you for this opportunity.
This may just be it, the worst movie of all time........2005-05-30
This movie is the worst movie that has ever been made. You hear people make those kind of statements all the time, and they are usaully just thrown around for the sake of emphasis. Make no mistake, when I say this movie is the worst movie of all time, I am dead serious. From now on if someone ever asks me what my least favorite movie is, I will tell them, The Sandlot 2.
I really have no idea what the makers of this movie were trying to accomplish with this film. The plot is essentially exactly the same as the first. The first Sandlot by the way was an excellent movie and I highly reccommend it to ANYONE. It is practically like the makers of Sandlot 2 just took the exaclt same plot and swapped out charecters names, dates, places etc. and basically re-made the first. I guess it was inevitable that half of the charecters were replaced by girls, and of course, love became a new aspect of the movie. This was a pathetic mistake. These kids are only around the age of 12 and the whole "love" thing just doesn't fit this movie.
I could literally go on and on, listing hundreds and hundreds of ridiculous details about this movie. Even to this very day EVERY-TIME I think of absolutly ANYTHING about this movie, it angers me. Do not buy this movie unless you are buying it for a 4 year old kid.
Anyone who likes this movie has not seen the first.
Both movies rock.......2005-05-30
When I was babysitting my cousins last year with my friend, they had The Sandlot with them and my friend and I had never watched it so we did when my cousins were sleeping and we fell in love with the movie and its characters, then in April of this year, we found out about the sequel and we rented it, which I must say is just about as good as the first one if not as good or better. The plot lines are a bit similar and a bit different, both have a kissing scene (First movie: Squints and Lifeguard, Second: Fingers and Kissing booth chick), and both have something lost over the fence where the dog is (First movie: baseball, Second: Rocket) and both have a Smalls, (First: Scotty Smalls, Second: His brother Johnny Smalls) and both have a character with a wise mouth (First: Ham, Second: Mac) but the Sandlot 2 has girls on their team, Hayley, Jenny, and Penny and they actually deal with a first love unlike in the first one when there was a crush on the lifeguard. Plus, the first one does deal more with baseball than the second one does...oh yeah, and both movies have insanely gorgeous guys (First: Benny, Second: David), but both movies are awesome.
Both movies are really funny and enjoyable, I'm definitely buying this pack. And if you liked the first one, there is a pretty good chance you'll like the second one.
My brother absolutley adored The Sandlot and refused to watch the sequel, but then he saw me and my friend watching it so he thought he would just give it a shot, and he liked it. So if you liked the first one, like I said, there's a good chance you'll like the sequel too.
