The bright cartoon colors of the Saturday morning classic Fat Albert get brought into the real world--or a Hollywood facsimile of reality, at any rate. When a teenage girl named Doris (Kyla Pratt) sheds a tear onto her TV's remote control, her unhappiness summons Fat Albert (Kenan Thompson, Barbershop 2), Mushmouth, Dumb Donald, Old Weird Harold, and the rest of the gang from Bill Cosby's popular cartoon (inspired by his childhood memories of growing up in Philadelphia). Doris is, to say the least, a little freaked out and doesn't really want Fat Albert to help solve her problems--but with the blithe confidence that only cartoon characters can have, Fat Albert and the gang follow her to school to root out the source of her misery. One of the movie's problems (which are legion) is that Doris's world isn't much more real than the cartoon one; it's a sterile, clean-cut caricature of a city neighborhood. In fact, the whole movie feels suspiciously like a commercial for a DVD of Fat Albert cartoons, an advertisement for which actually appears in the movie, making for a bizarrely self-referential product placement. Thompson, surprisingly, hangs on to his dignity in the face of the inane proceedings and even gives Fat Albert a hint of gravitas. --Bret Fetzer

Set in northern Africa at the beginning of World War I, this unusual movie is narrated by a horse, voiced by Lukas Haas (Witness). While the gambit works for the most part, let's face it, some sentences ("I had to find my place in the world") just sound silly coming from equine lips. Lucky, as he will be called, is born on an African-bound ship but is separated from his mother when the horses swim for shore and the new colt simply can't keep up. While mom and the rest of the gang are to work in the mines, Lucky is discovered by a young orphan who works as a stable hand. The mother-son pair are briefly reunited, but the stable's stallion, Caesar, fatally injures her. The high-born Caesar also prevents his own foal, Beauty, from seeing Lucky and eventually forces the colt out on his own. The dour indignities heaped upon this horse, including a heart-wrenching parting with the boy, last for about an hour of this 78-minute movie before events begin to shift and Lucky is able to live up to his name. Although the movie is rated G, horse death, graphic fighting, and cruelty toward the boy might be overwhelming to young or sensitive children. For mature schoolchildren and older kids. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Set in Namibia?.......2004-01-14
This movie was filmed right near where I live and I'm really impressed with how it turned out. But I'm puzzled by why it says it takes place in North Africa... when actually it's South West Africa... but anyway, the photography is brilliant. The story is perhaps aimed more towards younger viewers, but it can still be enjoyed by the whole family.
A Triumph of Spirit.......2001-11-04
An inspiring tale of a young colt named Lucky who endures much tragedy -- separation from his mother, war and isolation-- before gathering the courage to roam free in the grueling African desert. Anyone who has ever pondered an animal's point of view will greatly appreciate Lukas Haas' narration as the inquisitive voice of Lucky. The pure and, ultimately, triumphant views of this sensitive equine are truly thought-provoking in a world where animals are often discarded. The sweeping cinematography of the African desert is stunning and, at times, reminiscent of "Lawrence of Arabia". The supporting cast is outstanding, especially Chase Moore as the young boy who strikes up an everlasting friendship with Lucky. Overall, "Running Free" is a beautiful film which touts the triumph of good over evil, and the persistence of will which allows the underdog to prevail. A word of caution to parents: a frightening war scene and a pair of violent horse fights may be too intense for young children. Otherwise, a highly recommended movie.
My kids loved it!.......2001-08-09
My six year old son is a horse lover, so we knew he would like the movie, but we didn't realize that he'd beg to see it over and over, for days. Afterwards, he and his younger brother would pretend they were the horses in the movie, and prance around the house with joy. My wife an I watched it a few times with them and thought it was great too; beautifully filmed.
NOT for sensitive veiwers.......2001-07-19
Overall, this movie was very enjoyable BUT it has some pretty disturbing scenes, that my young children found pretty upsetting. Be prepared to debrief little ones....
Unexpected Pleasure!.......2001-06-16
Caught this unexpected pleasure, on a motel room T.V.. It is a rare, fasinating, high quality Cinematography, educational for all ages, and a highly unusual "inside" look into a horse's world! I'm ordering one for Doc Beeman, who is a world known equine vet,and the rest as gifts to myself, and grandchildren.

The tremendous charisma of Chow Yun-fat anchors this entertaining comic-book romp. Bulletproof Monk centers around a monk with no name (Chow) dedicated to protecting a sacred scroll that can give world-manipulating power to anyone who reads it. A hidden Nazi has been pursuing the scroll for 60 years and has finally caught up with the monk in present-day New York City; meanwhile, the monk suspects he may have found a disciple in a petty thief (Seann William Scott, Dude, Where's My Car?, American Pie) who's learned kung fu from watching double-feature chopsocky flicks. Don't let the presence of Chow Yun-fat lead you to expect much substance--this doesn't have the emotional scope of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or the visual panache of Hard-Boiled. But Bulletproof Monk is a cheerful, tightly edited, unpretentious action flick with flashes of humor, good for a mindless evening's entertainment. Also featuring Jaime (a.k.a. James) King (Blow). --Bret Fetzer

Again, Seeing this with low expectations leaves one open to complete suprise when the movie isn't actually bad. This is a movie about a tibetan monk that is sworn to protect a secret magical scroll that hold unlimited power. Unfortunately, Those darn Nazis are after its power, and he spends 60 years protecting it from a Mad holdout Nazi. Finally, the battle spills over to the streets of modern new york, where the the Monk, Chow Yun-Fat, crosses trail with the young Pick pocket Kar, Shawn Willam Scott. Well, as one thing leads to another, Kar finds himself caught in this monks Battle, and has to figure out who he is. Yes, their are some great fight scenes in this movie, as well as a love story. Check this movie out, Its good entertainment. At least rent it, but not a bad movie to get for the collection either.
typical of its genre.......2006-09-16
I enjoyed it more than most movies of this type. Chow Yun-Fat and Seann William Scott are very good. Just looking at Scott, you don't expect him to be as well built as he is. The special features are good.

Disappointed with America.......2007-01-08
As I read through the reviews for this film, I found myself in shock! How far america has fallen! For the life of me, I cannot understand how anybody could find a tragic film about a young mans fight against obesity could have humorous value! These people are the same people who laughed about the "Ive fallen and I can't get up!" old woman. PEOPLE- HARDSHIPS ARE NOT HUMOR. CHILDHOOD OBESITY SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTYLY!!
That said, I havent seen the movie, but I hear its a real knee slapper. I mean HELLO! Kenan Thompson can do no wrong! I mean, have you seen GOOD BURGER?!?!
Good Burger is based on a skit from the TV series All That on Nickelodeon. The story follows Ed, an employee of Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. They are under serious competition from Mondo Burger (which looks like a giant palace with billions of neon lights, don't ask!!!). The employees at Good Burger have to defend themselves from the chain's onslaught by introducing Ed's recipe for a "secret sauce". ENTER COMEDY GOLD!!!!
So what is there for parents to be concerned about... countless crotch and flatulence jokes and a steady stream of profanity like the pathetic George of the Jungle? You won't find that here, no sir!! Abe Vigoda says the "a" word once to describe his injured buttocks. "S*cks" is also used twice. There is NO other crude language and there is no profanity, the Lord's name in vain or obsceneties. Carmen Electra's character, Roxanne, tries to seduce Ed but he fends her off.
And unlike George, this movie has a few redeeming qualities. As funny as this movie is, it's still grounded in reality. Dexter's dad is a deadbeat and they (Ed and he) discuss the sadness of having no friends. Cheating is put down, the work ethic is encouraged, and the actors aren't bad role models.
On a side note, actors Kenan (19) and Kel (18) both grew up in the church. (Kel is from Chicago and Kenan is from Atlanta). They both have strong relationships with their mothers (as can be learned from the July 26th-August 1st issue of TV Guide, which I adore :-) ).
So do yourself a favor and order a large portion of delicious Good Burger while its still available!
Inspiring Heartwarming Worth It.......2006-12-25
A high school girl has a problem. She feels she is nothing but a loser. The movie starts with her at home, turning on the tv to see her favorite program Fat Albert, and she begins to cry. One of her tears lands on the remote and something magical happens, the tear goes through the screen and becomes a cartoon and lands in front of Fat Albert. Soon there is a portal which comes on the cartoon scene showing the young girl on the other side. Fat Albert dives through the screen and comes to life in the girl's living room. Soon his friends join him and the gang set out to help the girl overcome her low self esteem. But will they be able to help her change? Of course I can't tell you that, you need to see the movie. But what I can tell you is that if you want a movie the whole family can watch without hearing the F-word, this is it. It is amazing how you can make a movie today and not use the F-word and it still succeeds. This movie has a little of everything, suspense, drama, comedy, inspiration, science fiction?, and more. If anyone has a low self worth/feel like they are a loser, let me urge you to purchase this movie as well as the book "The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, which can also be purchased on Amazon. I too have felt like I was a loser, until God showed me otherwise. If you want a movie that is both inspiring and entertaining for the whole family, you'd be hard pressed to find one better than Fat Albert.
"Gonna Have A Good Time".......2006-10-11
"Fat Albert" is a live-action remake of the 1970s animated series inspired by Bill Cosby, with some new animated footage thrown in. It's a bit goofy, but I have watched it a few times, and quite like it.
Doris (Kyla Pratt) is a Philadelphia teenager with a problem. Well, that's what Fat Albert and his friends think when they come out of the TV, thanks to her tears falling on her remote. She doesn't have many friends, she doesn't get invited to parties, and she's not too good at sports. Fat Albert and the gang, now in the real world, are determined to solve Doris' problems, and follow her to school. Doris is humiliated, having brightly dressed cartoon characters tagging along everywhere she goes, but she'll have to put up with it for a while, the Fat Albert gang can only go back in the TV when their show is on, and that isn't for another day! While their in the real world, Fat Albert falls in love, Mushmouth has a go at rapping, Weird Harold plays basketball, and Dumb Donald learns to read. The real world is a very exciting place, and they get carried away in their new pursuits. Will they get back in the TV before they fade away? Will they solve Doris' problem? And apart from being a cartoon character, why does Fat Albert seem so familiar to Doris?
It's a very colourful film, being a real-life adaption of a cartoon. Also, being a modern remake of an older show, there are a lot of digs at how time has changed (wondering how a can of soft drink works, etc) and the limitations of the characters (Dumb Donald can't take off his hat, and Fat Albert can't take off his red shirt, because there might not be anything there, for instance). There is some banter for the show as well, which is nice. There are a few cameo appearances too, by Bill Cosby ("Who is it?" "Fat Albert!" "Yeah, RIGHT!"), Russel Cosby (in one of the last scenes) and even Aaron Carter, as a student in Doris' class.
It's silly fun for the family, and worth a look for Bill Cosby fans.
Fat Albert Rocks.......2006-08-11
I was a little wary of yet another favorite cartoon-to-lousy live-action movie, but decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. The movie is actually very good. I must admit, one of my favorite scenes was the last, of the real-life Cosby kids (Bill Cosby and friends) in their later years visiting Albert Robertson's grave. A sweet scene. On a lighter note, the music was great, including a fabulous remake of "Dancing in the Moonlight" for a little double-dutch action at the mall, and an updating of the original series' theme "Gonna Have a Good Time". I wish they would release a soundtrack CD if they haven't.
Sweet But Pointless Remake .......2006-08-05
One thing you can say safely about the feature film version of `Fat Albert' is that the film's content is very sweet and good-natured. You can give a DVD of the film to a kid as a Christmas present without offending his or her parents. And people who grew up watching the original cartoons on TV in the 70s might love the new film. I'm sorry, but I'm not one of them, and the fact must have influenced my opinion. So, please read my review as such.
Keenan Thompson plays the live-action Fat Albert (in a fat suit) who comes from the animated world after witnessing a high-school girl Doris (Kyla Pratt) weeping before the TV set. Don't ask me how this happens, but anyway Fat Albert and Cosby's gang come to the real world, where they help lonely Doris find a new life.
As they are from the junkyard in the 70s, they are greatly surprised by everything they see and hear. And as they come from another world, they have to go back to where they belong. The film strictly follows these familiar rules, and it does not fail to include production placement, blatant reference to the DVD release of the original series.
In fact, too much is going on in the film, and none of them really works. You just don't need animation characters to lead a more motivated life, but Doris does when she participates in the relay race at her school. There is an awkward romance involving the character of Albert, which goes nowhere after all, and the gags are all uninspired. Of course, those who still fondly remember the characters might find something refreshing, but except the fact that these live-action characters look exactly like the animated counterparts, there is nothing that I can find interesting in the feature film.
The film includes a brief cameo from Bill Cosby himself in a weak sub-plot explaining the background of character of Fat Albert. I don't know Bill Cosby's reaction to the new film, and still I don't see why he sanctioned this pointless remake.

Fat Girl is a typically shocking, utterly discomfiting provocation from director Catherine Breillat, whose excursions into female psychology and movie sexuality are anything but clinical. (See 36 Fillette and Romance for further proof.) Two adolescent sisters journey to the seaside on vacation with their parents; the younger sister is overweight and brooding, the older girl a beauty who attracts the attention of a smooth-talking boy. Much of the film is built around two painstaking seduction scenes, characteristically shot by Breillat with both comic and horrific overtones and long, uncomfortable takes. The final section then tips into an outright descent into hell--you can never let your guard down with Breillat. So complicated were the seduction scenes that Breillat subsequently made a feature about the shooting of them, Sex Is Comedy. Fat Girl was released under an alternate title, A ma soeur!, but Fat Girl, in English, is Breillat's original and preferred title. --Robert Horton
Description
Twelve-year old Anaïs is fat. Her older sister, Eléna, is a teenage beauty. While on vacation with her parents, Anaïs tags along behind Eléna, exploring the dreary seaside town. Eléna meets Fernando, an Italian law student, who seduces her with promises of love, as the ever-watchful Anaïs bears witness to the corruption of her sister's innocence. Precise and uncompromising, Fat Girl (À Ma soeur!) is a bold dissection of sibling rivalry and female adolescent sexuality from one of contemporary cinema's most controversial directors.

Prentious pap posing as art.......2007-05-21
I am a long time fan of French cinema, have lived in France and consider myself a true Francophile. My idea of a perfect movie experience is watching a good French movie in the original language (with English subtitles). However.....this wasn't it.
Under the pretext of being weighty and philosophical this director, whose name I'm trying to forget, has produced a pretentious, ugly, stupid and demeaning movie. Other reviewers here have already said it very well. Nothing here illumines the human condition. Do we know any more about sexuality or anything than we did before? That good looking 20 year old Roman law students like to score? (duh) That foolish young pretty girls with superficial, materialistic, absent parents might fall prey to the guy with the Roman hands? (excuse me..bad joke) (duh) That the fat younger sister might feel bad about herself? (This is news?)
There is nothing truly original presented here. I was not shocked by the sorta graphic sex (the guy was at least very handsome!) nor by the hideous ending. It was boring and prentious...the worst of French film making. I watched the interview with the director, hoping that her comments would shed some light on the movie, which might make me see it in a more favorable way. Yuk...she is really full of herself..."I am the film" she said, (perhaps quoting Louis XIV "I am the state."?) She seemed mean, too, in the way she spoke of how she directs her actors. I hope they were well paid for what they went through. I give the film two stars for their performances. There is one nice scene...the one with the two sisters giggling about their lives together. It's the only one that has anything approaching genuine affection.
For a really good film treatment of a fat girl, see "Georgy Girl," starring Lyn Redgrave.
Dissecting the frailest of emotions .......2007-05-13
What an amazing film. Fat Girl seems to expose just about every insecurity a young, overweight girl could have. The fact that the older sister is a total beauty doesn't placate the problem. The sibling rivalry has its ups and downs that all seems to stem from the competitive nature of the two girls.
The movie advances at a delicate pace. The older sister begins to explore her sexuality by sneaking her older boyfriend in the room late at night. This raises all kinds of moral dilemmas due to their age discrepancies plus the fact that the younger sister sleeps in the same room. Kinda creepy, don't you think?
I really enjoyed the subtle pace of the movie but halfway through I found myself leery of a tragic ending. I was expecting something drastic, like a pregnancy or even a suicide. I hoped the director didn't feel the need for a traumatic ending. Even though I braced myself, I still was totally caught off guard by the final course of events.
My initial reaction was one of disappointment. The ending seemed so forced, like it was simply trying to garner a bold reaction to needlessly justify the film.
However, I reread an an in-depth review by Jenny from NY, and she summed it up in a way that makes some sense. This ending makes the viewer feel shunned or betrayed, the same emotion felt by the characters in the film. That is an excellent point.
Still, I can't decide if the ending was completely stupid or utter genius. I'll have to contemplate that for awhile. I do know that any film that makes you think is a film worth watching.
Breillat on her usual themes of sexuality.......2007-05-02
I have seen "Anatomy of Hell" and posted a review over a year ago but Amazon refuse to post it.........what did I say? Anyway brash, aggressive, meaningful, and yet ultimately absurd, "Fat Girl" is so intensely polarizing that it leaves no room for neutrality. Overweight Anaïs (Anaïs Reboux) is a heartbreakingly self-conscious 12-year-old girl who lives in the shadow of her blossoming older sister, Elena, who has fallen in love with Fernando (Libero De Rienzo), a smooth-talking lothario. When he sneaks into the girls' bedroom at night, Anaïs listens in painful detail to her sister's sexual initiation. In this scene and others, the film is so upfront and candid that it creates an uncomfortable viewing experience.
"Fat Girl" isn't a perfect movie. Many people will find it too slow, too static, not enough "happening" to keep their attention. But there is a lot going on--it's just under the skin, where most movies don't typically look. One example of the movie's insight comes when that no-good Fernando gives Elena a ring as a token of his "love", except that how he obtained it and under what pretenses only comes out later to paint the whole thing with a double layer of irony. Another moment comes when we see the sisters together, using words that are both hurtful and reassuring. They are unquestionably in competition, but they are also still sisters, and perhaps they cannot help but care about each other.
The end of "Fat Girl" contains a development so sudden and unexpected that it derails the film for many people. They actually get angry about it. They feel betrayed by the movie--betrayed that it spends so much time involving us emotionally in these characters, only to do something that seems entirely arbitrary. I felt betrayed as well, until I realized something--the betrayal we feel, as viewers, is very much the same betrayal that the girls themselves feel for having been treated so badly by their parents, by a prospective lover, and by each other. No, the ending will not work for every audience, but it has an audacity and a guiding sensibility, and it is nowhere nearly as arbitrary as you might want to think. Criterion! That one word alone should make this a must-have if you're interested in the film.
Anti-entertainment.......2007-02-07
Anybody can shock. I can slit my wrists in the middle of the interstate, or piss on a cross. Shocking, but hardly artistic. I really wish she would stop making movies. She has the film-making skills of a clumsy chimpanzee and writes dialogue that is so other-worldly and removed from our own reality that it's like listening to a non-sensical foreign language. Please, please stop making movies. If you have a message, simply write it down on a piece of cardboard and, yes, stand in the middle of the interstate.
Loved it!.......2006-11-10
I don't usually like sub titles, but the movie was so compelling that I barely noticed. It's kind of intense, but really worth watching.

Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids -Vol 2.......2007-06-08
This series is great for teaching Character Education. You have the concept/Character Trait, then the story centered around the topic/concept, followed by music.
This is a great teaching tool!
WHERE IS VOL. 3 ???? I ORDERED IT AND THEN IT BECAME UNAVAILABLE?.......2007-02-19
Does anyone know what happened to the rest of this series? I bought the first two volumes and then ordered volume 3 and then when the release date came I was told it is unavailable. Anyone know what happened?
Thanks for any help.
Hey, hey, hey...Fat Albert is here to stay!.......2006-06-10
Although Fat Albert had been on the air four years when I was born, I still enjoyed eight years of it (1976-1984) on Saturday mornings, and even more in syndication. I had forgotten how funny the characters were, especially the way Russell and Rudy used to spout off on each other. This show had a great way of entertaining you and educating you at the same time. Included in this disc set are the following episodes:
13. Tomboy: Penny, a new girl at school, alienates the gang because she's so good at sports. Penny meets her match though, when she goes up against Fat Albert in a baking contest.
14. Stage Fright: The kids try to perform "Moby Dick" in a play contest, but they are all overcome with a severe case of stage fright, and their set ends up hilariously falling to pieces.
15. The Bully: A bully named Slappy is harassing the kids and surprisingly, it's the smallest one of them all, Russell, who finds Slappy's weakness.
16. Smart Kid: Thurmond, the class genius, will help the kids improve their grades if they will help him improve his athletic skills.
17. Mister Big Timer: Frainey is a big hit with the gang when he's constantly showering them with gifts. What no one realizes is that his big brother, Muggles, is a big time drug dealer.
18. The Newcomer: Dumb Donald's life is jarred when his parents give him a new baby sister, but then he learns that being a big brother can be a lot of fun.
19. Dad's Job: The boys get an eye opener when they learn what their dads do for a living.
20. Mom and Pop: A new girl at school, Flora, is trying to cope with the divorce of her parents. Fat Albert and the gang help her out by making her "queen of the junkyard" and boosting her spirits.
21. How the west was Lost: Rudy is so sure he knows everything about Indians, only because he's seen a slew of Western movies. When Johnny, a Hopi Indian boy joins their class, it helps dispels a lot of stereotypes and rumors about Native Americans.
22. Sign Off: The gang learns the importance of street signs when a kid named Cool Roy gets his kicks off wrecking signs and spraying ugly grafitti all over town.
23. The Fuzz: Parker can't stand the cops or anyone else in uniform, but when he leads the gang into danger at an abandoned amusement park, he finds himself turning to the same men he despises. Fat Albert becomes a real hero in this episode.
24. Ounce of Prevention: The kids help their friend, Lucius, overcome a drinking problem.
I definitely reccommend these DVD's for any Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids fan. The cartoons may be old, but the messages are timeless...
The golden age of Fat Albert continued.............2006-01-07
This DVD represents the excellent second year of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, the pioneering Black Saturday morning cartoon show that gives smiles of delight to we who were children in the seventies and eighties.
Some pretty interesting stuff, and quite tough for it's time (and even THESE times in the era of political correctness) for a show with oung audiences in mind. One episode has our heroes meeting a stink boy named Suede whose body odor turns off everyone, but only Russell has the guts to tell him to his face. Strong stuff for that era. Another deals with a kid who enjoys the presents bought from the money made by his drug dealing brother (curiously, this episode doesn't deal with the actual anguish of drug abuse itself). Another deals with a vandal, a kid who loves to taunt the police, and another deals with the death of a beloved vaudevillian who entertains the kids named "Uncle Monty."
If this stuff sounds grim and depressing, it's not. Bill Cosby and Filmation studios had a brilliant way of making this kind of material "edutataining," at least until the shark-jumping post-1979 humorless abominations.
Be carreful, the Cos and crew are coming at you with music and fun and if you're not careful, you may learn something before it's done!
Hey Hey Hey, get out the way..........2005-12-13
We loved this set, released to DVD in 2005. It is volume 2 of what has been 3 volumes so far in the "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Vol. _: The Original Animated TV Series". This one has the second season, with episodes #13 to #24 as they were originally broadcast on CBS TV. Each volume has 12 episodes, and a bonus audio CD disc that has songs from the episodes on this volume.
There was a different set in 2004 called the "Ultimate Collection" which kind of randomly chose 20 episodes from across the years for each of 4 volumes, but that set is already out of print. I like this better, as I prefer the early years.

Fat Albert, Vol. 1.......2007-01-05
I like the animation, I like the characters, the stories usually have a moral and are very entertaining. It makes me wish I knew who the kids were that inspired these stories, assuming they are kids who grew up with Bill Cosby in Philadelphia.............
Weeba likeba the Fat Albert showba.......2006-03-15
The storylines are great and the shows are very entertaining. Unlike most of cartoons on television today, these episodes are very wholesome and you don't need to worry about your kids hearing inappropriate language. My 11 and 8 year old kids like the shows but they don't crave them like some of the other DVDs we have. In the words of my children, "They're pretty good." We all like the uniqueness of each character. The only down side of each show is the music with the moral message at the end. No one in my house is crazy about them. That being said, I think there is a strong possibility we will buy the second season.

Fat Albert and the kids are back! Rudy, Mushmouth, Donald, Bill, Weird Harold, Russell and of course the ring leader, Fat Albert. This exclusive DVD consists of the Top 5 highest-rated episodes of the series. Fat Albert and the Cosby kids is the re-introduction of a pop-culture icon to the next generation.
Customer Reviews:
Hey Hey Hey, great way to start your collection.......2005-12-13
This early 2004 release DVD is a great sampler on the original series. It features 5 episodes that were voted the best. They are: "Creativity" (the gang is low on cash but uses their imaginations to make the things they can't afford); "Take Two, They're Small" (a lesson in the dumbness of shoplifting); "Smoke Gets In Your Hair" (great episode for kids on smoking); "Sweet Sorrow" (a girl with her own troubles takes time to help the gang); Poll Time" (tackles racism).
If you want more than just a starter, try the 2005 DVD sets, "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Vol. 1: The Original Animated TV Series", this is the first attempt to release the shows in their original intended order, so volume 1 starts at the beginning in 1972 with the first 12 episodes. And the early years were the best in my opinion. There was a set in 2004 called the "Ultimate Collection" which kind of randomly chose 20 episodes from across the years for each of 4 volumes, but that set is already out of print. Yet the issue on this page made at the same time is still available. Well, no matter how you buy it, get yourself some Fat Albert today!
Hey Hey Hey! Fat Albert's back! Just in time for the movie!.......2004-12-29
Finally releasing "Fat Albert" on DVD gives new life to this series that all ages can enjoy. Growing up watching this show really made me happy, like the Cosby Kids got when "The Brown Hornet" would come on! This collection of the top 5 shows is not a bad sampler and for $10, you can't go wrong. All five of the episodes are on the 20 episode ultimate collection, too. In case you don't know what episodes are on the disc, here they are, in order:
CREATIVITY - Fat Albert and the kids get the fever to start a band, but they don't have enough money to buy "real" instruments. Using the junkyard, they come up with a creative musical solution.
TAKE TWO, THEY'RE SMALL - Fat Albert's cousin, Justin, and his cool friend, Harlow, have a habit of shoplifting from stores! Will the kids join in or do the right thing?
SMOKE GETS IN YOUR HAIR - Wombley has been seen around town smoking cigarettes. Will the kids follow suit or realize that smoking is bad for your health?
SWEET SORROW - Fat Albert's figure skating friend, Roberta, offers to help the kids with their hockey skills. Unfortunately, she seems troubled by other things on her mind.
POLL TIME - Hugo (black) and Baron (white) play race politics against each other in the school election until Fat Albert and the kids come up with an alternative.
one of the best.......2004-12-19
i can't believe that it took this long to renter this cartoon.i watched it for so long, and all of a sudden it was gone.i love it from the time it started.a couple of years ago i started seeing some clothes with fat albert on them, so i figured that mr.cosby would bring the show back, but it never happened.i learned so much from it.i can credit the show with one thing, after it went of the air i finally went outside.it wasn't any point in staying in.mr cosby, i don't know if you had a anything to do with it coming out on dvd,but thanks.now i can share it with my kids, and for that thank you.a long time loyal fan.
Fat Albert Memories.......2004-11-22
This is a DVD worth having. I grew up watching Fat Albert and I forgot how funny it was/is. That cartoon was well put together. I love Bill Cosby for coming up with something like the Cosby Kids. I'm gonna show this to my children ...whenever I get some lol. Fat Albert is a legacy in my eyes.

GREAT MEMORIES.......2005-10-24
As a 30 Something year old father, it was great to stroll down memory lane with Fat Albert's Halloween Special. I remember this more than the other holiday specials from Fat Albert. My son now enjoys it, although I suppose the whole "Fat" Albert thing is a bit politically incorrect in 2005. Not that it has stopped me from purchasing it. Not too many extras on this DVD. A lame game that even my 4 year old figured out how to master after the first couple of tries. That is the reason for the 4 out of 5 stars. "Your like School on a Saturday.....No CLASS......"
Finally!.......2005-08-26
If it weren't enough we are getting all those wonderful Fat Albert cartoons from our childhoods, we're getting this special that ranks among my favorites along with It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I have small glimpses of this that pop up in my head but I can't remember so much about it. I just know I loved it at a younger age and the Crosby kids present many things that made that time of year a happy one...just like the whole series shows what being a kid was all about.
Waiting a long time!.......2005-07-29
I have been looking for this for many many years!! So HAPPY that it is finally being released so I can have my kids now watch it!
Thanks!
A Childhood Memory of Halloween in the 80's.......2005-07-05
The late 70's and 80's were the prime times for cartoon characters. Garfield, the Smurfs, the Muppet Babies and Fat Albert were brightening up television screens on Saturday mornings for many children, me included.
Holiday specials were always something I looked forward to as a child. Garfield's Halloween and Christmas specials were not to be missed as well as Fat Albert's Christmas and my favorite, Fat Albert's Halloween Special. Suddenly these annual treats disappeared off of tv and vhs copies were hard to get a hold of. Now that we have dvd technology, Fat Albert's Halloween special is going to be released in time for Halloween 2005!
This special, shown for the first time in 1977, includes all the characters from the show who decide to dress up and trick people around town. Their antics result in getting kicked out of the neighborhood theater, and a visit to an old man results in him eating all of the gang's treats. They then decide to visit Old Lady Blackwell's place, and end up scaring themselves more than the old lady, who they are sure is the meanest woman in town. When one of the gang's sisters disappears into the old lady's house, they are sure she is gone forever, but are very surprised to find out that not only is she okay but happy to be with Old Lady Blackwell. Bill Cosby did a great job voicing the characters and the cheesy music was equally as memorable. This special ran through much of the 80's and I looked forward to it every year. Now I can look forward to revisiting my Halloween memories of the 80's and seeing this great special in the dvd quality we have all come to expect.
Oh The Memories!!!!!!!!.......2005-04-16
I watched this every year as a child and am so glad to finally see it making it's way to DVD.The absolute best FAT ALBERT special ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Description
In another part of Philly, the Cosby Kids are rehearsing for a Christmas pageant at their junkyard clubhouse, which Tyrone, the mean old junkyard owner, is fixin' to tear down. That's when Marshall & his parents show up. With their car broken down, Marshall's mom is about to have a baby and his dad, without health insurance, inspires the gang to invite them in the clubhouse for shelter. Tyrone agrees to let them stay until the baby is born, in exchange for Fat Albert working for him as a sidewalk Santa. "Ho-ho-ho's" in Fat Albert fashion ensue. After the old hobo, Mudfoot, gives Tyrone a lecture about how he's been grumpy at the world ever since his wife died, the junkyard owner has a change of heart and promises to keep the gang's clubhouse in tact.
Customer Reviews:
Fat Albert Does it again with X-mas special.......2005-11-27
I've seen this special three times and just recently picked up this copy on DVD. The sound and colors are beautiful, better than the syndicated airings. Next to the easter special, this one was one of Albert's best holiday specials Filmation produced. The plot lines of Marshall's family and Tyrone showed us what Christmas is about. We must reach out to help others and put our agendas aside. Albert and Co. always demonstrated that. I can't wait to complete the (CBS era) collection of Fat Albert. This was one of my all time favorite Sat am shows. Regardless of animation quality, this Filmation creation deserves respect. I'm happy that I can afford to buy the DVDs at low prices.
Fat Albert and the Gang must save Christmas, their clubhouse, and a family in need........2005-11-18
It's your typical Fat Albert episode, gone Christmas themed. The always looking to do good gang is facing the demolition of their clubhouse, and a friend's father has lost his job, leaving his family homeless for Christmas. It's up to Fat Albert to save the holiday for everyone, and to do it, he needs to show the grinchy Tightwad Tyrone the spirit of Christmas. I won't spoil the end, so you'll have to buy it and see!
You get one 1/2 hour episode (or 23 minutes) and one game, which is find out which snowman Fat Albert is hiding behind. It's a simple game, but my son kept wanting to play it over and over. The colors are very bright and the DVD quality is excellent. I think it would have been nice to have both this one and the Halloween episode on 1 DVD. Either way, I would purchase this one from Amazon, as I have never seen it sold in any local stores. A great find for the Fat Albert fan.
