Sandwiched between Slap Shot and The World According to Garp, George Roy Hill made this effervescent film about first love. A sharp American girl (Diane Lane, in her debut) and a film-loving Parisian boy (Thelonious Bernard, in his only film) fall innocently in love. When the girl's zealous mother (Sally Kellerman) goes ballistic, the young couple fall under the spell of a curious gentleman (none other than Laurence Olivier), who plants the seed to make their love last forever: to kiss under a Venetian bridge at sunset. As the love story becomes an adventure with the young lovers crossing France and Italy, Allan Burns's Oscar-nominated script and Hill's deft touch turn this into a romance for the ages and a movie to smile about. George Delerue's Oscar-winning score and the picturesque European scenery don't hurt either. Ages 7 and older. --Doug Thomas

From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Mermaid put animation back on the studio's "to do" list and was responsible for ushering Beauty and the Beast to theaters. A modern Disney classic. --Keith Simanton

5 out of 5 stars One of the last great Disney Movies.......2007-05-28

Mermaid was one of Disney's last great movies.....before they started trying to spin each classic tale into a 2nd, 3rd movie....each meaningless money making machines.

The Little Mermaid is the Disney version of the Hans Christian Anderson tale. Disney brings it to life with the beautiful Ariel, and a whole cast of loveable characters- Flounder, Eric, Sebastian, Flounder, Skuttle.

Ariel, the youngest of many daughters is bored with life under water and want to explore life on land as a human. She see's a man aboard a boat and falls in love. His name is Eric. When a storm rages, Ariel saves Eric and leaves his ashore. He sees her and can't forget her face. Against her fathers wishes Ariel dreams of life on land. She bargains with the sea witch Ursula to turn her into a human. The price she pays is her voice. She has to make Eric fall in love with her- but she has no voice.
Ursula uses Ariels voice to bring her father to her knees. In the end, she is overcome, and Triton- Ariels father is saved, and let's Ariel go- to become a human.

The music is some of the most creative animated music EVER. From Kiss the girl to Under the Sea, each songs is singable, and unforgettable. Boy and girls alike will love this movie about dreams, courage, and adventure.

Once you settle into the realization that this 1986 John Carpenter (Halloween) film is not going to be one of the director's more masterful works, Big Trouble in Little China just becomes a full-tilt comic blast. Kurt Russell is hilarious as a drawling, would-be John Wayne hero who steps into the middle of a supernatural war in the heart of Chinatown. While kung fu warriors and otherworldly spirits battle over the fate of two women (Kim Cattrall and Suzee Pai), Russell's swaggering idiot manages to knock himself out or underestimate the forces he's dealing with. The whole thing is dopey, but it's supposed to be dopey and Russell's game performance brings an ironic edge. Carpenter directs some nifty spook effects (the sudden arrival of three martial arts demigods from out of nowhere is worth applause), and he also wrote the music. --Tom Keogh

Description

Directed by thrill master John Carpenter, this edgo-of-your seat adventrue stars Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, a tough-talking, wisecracking truck driver whose hum-drum life on the road takes a sudden supernatural tailspin when his best friend's fiancee is kidnapped. Speeding to the rescue, Jack finds himself deep beneath San Francisco's Chinatown, in a murky, creature-filled world ruled by Lo Pan, a 2000-year-old magician who mercilessly presides over an empire of spirits. Dodging demons and facing baffling terrors, Jack battles his way through Lo Pan's dark domain in a full-throttle, action-riddled ride to rescue the girl. Co-starring Kim Cattrall, this effects-filled sci-fi spectacle speeds to an incredible, twist-taking finish.

5 out of 5 stars Best. Movie. Ever. Period........2007-06-12

Just listen to the old Porkchop Express, alright? When you want to get the buddies together on a dark and stormy night and have a great time, all you need is some brews, some grub, and a copy of Big Trouble in Little China. This has got to be one of the greatest examples of a hilarious, great fun, buddy comedy-action flick ever devised. You will not be able to stop laughing. Your significant other will consider dumping you because you won't stop quoting it. You will never be able to stop doing the kung fu hand sign the good guys flash at each other during the flick. The greatest characters, most absurd dialogue, this one has it all. Go to the store right now and tell 'em old Jack Burton sent you for a copy. 'Nuff said.

4 out of 5 stars Cheesy but entertaining!!.......2007-05-14

Cheesy but very entertaining. Very 80s. Not Curt's best stuff but very worth while viewing. His best work.............Captin Ron!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest movies ever made!.......2007-04-11

Funny, action packed, martial arts, magic, monsters, great (but cheesy) dialogue - truly representative of the Golden Age of Movies (aka, the 80's). The first time I saw this flick, I watched it once a day for 30 days. Did I mention that this is one of many of great John Carpenter films?

Get with it, 'cause for this price, you'll be thanking me for your trip through nostalgia!!

5 out of 5 stars Big Trouble in Little China.......2007-03-29

The name is Burton, Jack Burton. Fun, action, adventure. If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommend it. Jack Burton belongs up there with Jack Sparrow, Indiana Jones, and Han Solo.
When the movie came out, I had hoped for the futher adventures of Jack Burton. Maybe someday someone will write them, for now, all we can do is keep a list of favorite Jack Burtonisms "Its all in the reflexes."

5 out of 5 stars May the wings of Liberty never lose a feather!.......2007-01-25

As many have said before: You either get this movie or you don't. Predating mixed-genre TV shows like 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' by a decade, BTILC was an odd duck in 1986. Comedy, buddy action flick, thriller, drama, kung fu fest, fantasy, parody - it's all over the map and all of it is fun.

Just let it do its thing, sit back, and enjoy. The check is in the mail!

This is an energetic, but ultimately mediocre adaptation of the play, directed on Broadway by Tommy Tune. Burt Reynolds is the town sheriff and a regular patron of a local bordello. He wages a public battle to keep it open after it is targeted as the devil's den by a television minister. Charles Durning was nominated for a Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and there are some lively song and dance numbers featuring Dolly Parton as the madame of the Chicken Ranch. However, this becomes bogged down in too many serious moments for it to be more than a lightweight musical comedy. --Rochelle O'Gorman

5 out of 5 stars A Surprise from my past.........2007-05-14

I ordered this for my wife, but I knew of it as a kid. I was surprised how entertaining it ended up being. Burt and Dolly really have a chemistry, and for a real church-going country girl, she seems to have an open mind for taking such a risque role. Moments that harken to "true" women's rights, the safety of a whorehouse opposed to the street walker/pimp scenario, even a quip on how un Christian most Christians are. (When Burt is asked why more people are not forgiving like God is, he replies,"Well, I guess most people aren't very God-like." So damned true. I dig this film.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Dolly & Burt.......2007-05-08

Very good adaptation of a musical, and Dolly & Burt are great. Don't think I have ever heard Burt sing before (is it dubbed?).

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining........2007-05-07

This is a fun movie to watch. I saw it many years ago and liked it so much that i have now bought it. Stars Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton. It's a comedy movie about a little whore house known as the chicken ranch. Not a movie that you would let young children watch but over 15 would be fine. I just loved it.

Kids may enjoy the slapstick of this modern reworking of the old Our Gang comedies, but parents who grew up watching them on TV (or grandparents who saw them at theaters) will wonder why anyone would want to be involved in this pathetic remake. Directed by Penelope Spheeris, the film takes look-alike kids and casts them as Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, and the rest, minus any sense of what made the old Hal Roach comedies funny. Instead of kids being kids, these are kids doing shtick while recycling such old bits as the He-Man Woman Haters Club, the kids' go-cart race, and Spanky and Alfalfa dressing as girls. Devoid of charm or wit. --Marshall Fine

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun for Kids of All Ages........2007-06-12

OK, yes, its a great movie for kids, but I think its even better for adults. Like all the great, classic "kids" humor (vintage Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Sponge Bob, etc.), its really targeted for adults, or at least I believe, you have to be an adult to get all of the fantastic humor.

This movie reminded me of my own kids at their funniest. The attitude seemed perfect. For this, I'm not sure who to credit other than Penelope Spheeris, but all of the kids acting in this movie seemed relaxed, fun-loving, and outrageously humorous. Not to take anything away form the "mature" actors - There were some fantasic cameos including Mel Brooks, Reba McEntire, Whoopi Goldberg, Darryl Hanna, George Wendt, and many others.

"If you were my children, I'd punish you."
"If we were your children, we'd punish ourselves."

"What is your bank account number?"
"Seven."
"Seven?"
"Four?"

"Quick! Call 911."
"But I don't know the number."
"Me neither."

When your kids aren't around, take it out, watch it yourself, and have a good laugh.

4 out of 5 stars Little Rascals review.......2007-06-02

I do Family Day Care and the children love this dvd. It has good comedy, especially when a couple of the boys get caught up in a ballet concert. The kids all have wonderful personalities and the antics they get up to, is entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Full of fun!.......2007-05-15

"The Little Rascals" has been my unrivalled favourite movie for the last ten years. I literally know it line by line and still have a good laugh everytime I watch it. It is the ONE movie that everyone in my family agrees on, so now that we are growing up and there's a new generation of kids coming along, I bought the DVD again so that they can be a true part of our family. Before agreeing to marry my fiancé, I had him watch the movie and I watched his response. Now I know that there's still a kid inside of him and the wedding is being planned. I couldn't marry someone who didn't admire Spanky's spunk and Alfalfa's audacity in bringing a GURL (yes, gUrl) into the clubhouse. This is a new classic and a must-have in your DVD collection!

5 out of 5 stars Oh man.......2007-05-13

Such a great movie. I love this movie.
This is the best movie in my life.
Classy lines with such cute children.

5 out of 5 stars Clean Wholesome movie.......2007-05-09

This movie is absolutely funny. It is great for all ages. My daughter is 14 and still loves to watch it.

4 out of 5 stars Sweet Little Love Story.......2007-04-08

A young cast supported by some big name stars (Olivier and Broderick Crawford) make for an entertaining little movie. The French kid will make you smile all the way through. The new DVD treatment is a great way to bring this gem of a movie back to light after languishing on VHS for many years. Treat yourself to this fun little film.

And a sidebar to some of these other reviewers: there ought to be a rule that you have to be able to spell and punctuate if you write reviews on Amazon.com.

4 out of 5 stars Bingo!.......2006-11-10

Silly at first, then it got to be wonderful! With the horse racing and the movies, and the trio travel to Italy for romance.

2 out of 5 stars A Little Nasuating.......2006-09-21

I had avoided this for sometime but finally relented so I could see a young Diane Lane. She is the only redeeming part of this rather silly movie, not even product placment clips of Paul Newman and Robert Redford make it bearable. Hideous accents abound and way to many sexual references i.e. statues in the Louvre, porno flick to make it really innocent. Olivier is really pretty awful, he must have been really hard up for money to support Joan Plowright and the kids. Broderick Crawford playing himself is even worse. Where did they come up with this cast? So rent Henry V or Rebecca for Olivier; All the Kings Men for Crawford; Long Hot Summer for Newman; The Great Gatsby or Butch Cassidy for Redford and just say no to A Little Romance.

4 out of 5 stars sweet although a little naive.......2006-07-03

maybe my expection was too high after reading so many enthusiastic reviews. it's not 100% superb, but it IS fresh, romantic, and first love. i wish my first love was like that. it would make life so perfect.

5 out of 5 stars I love this MOVIE!!!.......2006-06-22

This movie so hit home with me. I was a little bit younger than the main characters when I first saw this, but I still was able to relate very well. It is such a sweet and beautifully well made movie. I can remember catching this movie just recently on Showtime family and I was so happy because this was the day I took off from work!! And now I just bought the movie so that I can enjoy it forever. Everytime I see it, I always begin to cry when "Julius" leaves the kids in the movie theater at the door and kisses the window "goodbye" the walks up to the policemen and states, "Gentelemen I believe you are looking for me"... Oh..I'm about to cry now!!! But please watch this movie with your family, friends, and those that you love. Trust me, they will thank you!!

5 out of 5 stars Little Manhattan..........2007-06-04

Little Manhattan brought back a slew of memories for me also. This movie brought to the fore the feelings that I had had (as a pre-teen & teen), but just didn't have the voice to express my feelings to the females with whom I was enamored. Now, I didn't cry as our young man did in the DVD, but I did understand (and could relate).

I wouldn't relive those days even if you paid me! I would recommend this flick to all pre-teen and teen you men as course 101 in the art of expressing one's feelings to females - but the fact is, that with the emotion that we call love, there is no 'art' to it. If you wear your heart on your sleeve, chances are it's going to be broken - be ready - if you can.

To anyone that reads this - have your pre-teen and teenage sons watch this. If they say, "That will never happen to me!", just smile at them and say, "If you say so..." and leave it at that!!

4 out of 5 stars First Crush Film Grows on You.......2007-03-13

When I first started watching this Netflix rental, I almost stopped the
DVD after 10 minutes because the movie seemed silly and broad. But I
stuck it out, and am I glad I did. The movie got steadily better, and
by the end I felt I was watching a near excellent film. It uses the old
Wonder Years narrative technique and tries to be a little too cute at
times, but the ending was a bit surprising and very touching. It stars
the boy from The Bridge To Terabithia, but no big name actors. It received good reviews, but had little to draw in the average viewer.
If you enjoy movies about childhood that aren't meant for children
(though this is suitable for children age 9 or up), then I think you
will enjoy this film.

5 out of 5 stars Little Manhattan.......2007-01-31

I absolutely loved this movie! It was a great family film and had a great story. I would recomend this movie if you like watching romantic comedys. I loved it!

4 out of 5 stars Great Family Film.......2007-01-15

Get the kids, get the popcorn, get ready for a great movie the whole family can enjoy. Tell your friends about "Little Manhattan" too.

You'll laugh, cry, and enjoy every minute of it.

I give it two thumbs up.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful .......2007-01-13

Although the two main characters of Little Manhattan are children, this is not a kids movie. It's a film for anyone who remembers the joys and pains of your first love, the magic you feel when you connect with someone for the first time in your life. This, in summary, is a film for everyone, and a delightful one at that.

4 out of 5 stars Clever movie... a Must have for Jon Bongiovi fans!.......2005-08-06

I agree with the positive reviews on this one. The plot and humor are clever and Jon plays Robin Grange well - he makes a devious character quite likeable. If you want to see a lot of Jon, you shouldn't pass on this movie. It took me forever to get through the entire movie because I kept rewinding certain parts where Jon looked especially yummy or said something rather funny. A lot of dry wit and a nice touch of suspense and irony at the end. Well worth the money. Some nudity, unfortunately, not Jon's (grin).

4 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi is perfectly cast.......2005-03-25

Bon Jovi may not be a Shakespearean actor, but he has chops enough to play a smarmy American that easy to hate, and even easier to envy. The film may be nothing more a series of ruses, but it is fun to watch the actors work. Thandie Newton is particularly good as the object of the playwright's affection, who nearly succumbs to the wicked charms of the awful American. Bon Jovi oozes with fake charm and star quality persona, which is exactly what the role called for. This nothing more than diverting entertainment, but it is fun nonetheless.

4 out of 5 stars interesting...not much more to say.......2004-01-11

okay, i've read most of the other reviews for this movie and had high expectations for it. i mainly wanted to see it for jon bon jovi, maybe because he is really HOT. anyway, i was a little disappointed, but it was an overall job well done. i'm just going to state the fact that i'm only a teenager, which explains why i found a couple of scenes awkward. to make it short and simple, i would recommend that you only watch this movie before you turn out the lights to make it more interesting. in my opinion of course, you may have your own

5 out of 5 stars BEST JOVI MOVIE EVER!!!!.......2003-12-03

i've seen pretty much EVERY movie he's ever been in and this by far is the best. some of the other reviews said the same thing, that if you think bon jovi is the greatest you won't be disappointed!
here are a couple of reasons why this movie should be at the top of your bon jovi list:
*scenes with his shirt off
*he is the leading man
*seduces the leading ladies
*twisted ending
if you need more reasons than those you'll just have to check it out for yourself.

1 out of 5 stars regrettable.......2003-11-30

the mystery of why anyone would cast jovi
in the lead cannot be answered by watching
this movie. just being a celeb doesn't give
you the acting chops necessary to hold up your
end in the company of established performers.
the faltering screenplay didn't help matters
either. altogether regrettable

Half screwball romance, half television satire, Little Black Book follows insecure Stacy Holt (Brittany Murphy, Uptown Girls, 8 Mile), who has an idyllic relationship with a great guy named Derek (Ron Livingston, Office Space) and a job as an associate producer for a daytime talk show that fuses Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake. Then a cynical co-worker named Barb (Holly Hunter, Broadcast News) persuades Stacy to delve into Derek's Palm Pilot to learn more about his ex-girlfriends--which sends Stacy into a spiral of ever-increasing paranoid compulsion. Little Black Book takes some unexpected plot twists that some viewers will find inexplicable and others will find weirdly fascinating. The movie's split personality makes it unsuccessful as a whole but compelling in parts. Hunter steals the show, in more ways than one. Also featuring Kathy Bates, (Misery, About Schmidt) and Julianne Nicholson (Seeing Other People). --Bret Fetzer

Description

A young woman's life begins to resemble the daytime TV talk show she works for after she is persuaded to snoop through her boyfriend's Palm Pilot and discovers more than she wants to know about his past - and present.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Good plot and characters, but..........2007-01-29

Little Black Book stars Brittany Murphy and is about a woman (Stacy Holt) who starts to snoop around to find out more about her boyfriend's previous relationships.

The cast as a whole is good and performed well, the plot by itself is full of potential and much of it used with great success here, but as a whole I wil not be watching this movie again.

The reason for that is because the TV show that Stacy Holt is exective producer for is a Jerry Springer type talk show and much of the story revolves around that show. I personally don't like Jerry Springer and thought they used that setting way too much. Also, the style used for the entire film was just a little too disjointed. The plot was good, yet they did not use it as well as they could have.

Finally, no review for this movie would be complete without a comment regarding the ending. While some found the ending depressing I actually thought it was one of the better moments. I prefer realistic endings and this one fit that, at least until the last few minutes where it went back to being corny.

Like I said previously, I think the cast did a great job and the plot has a lot of potential but the shooting of the film and the use of the talk show in it just left me watching the clock waiting until it was over so I could watch something else.

2 out of 5 stars You'll never get this time back, so take my advice and don't do it.......2007-01-29

Brittany Murphy and Holly Hunter star in this way below mediocre "romantic comedy" about two producers at the Jerry Springer-esque Kippie Kann show. Kippie Kann (Kathy Bates) is supposedly losing viewers and they want to give the show a new twist. Accordingly, they take all sorts of new ideas for shows to make Kippie a bit less trashy. One of them: Little Black Books, or electronic ones like Palms and Blackberries. After her boyfriend lets it slip that he used to date a well-known model, Brittany Murphy's character, Stacy, takes her work home with her when he goes out of town and she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the Palm he left at home. Before you know it she's contacting all of his exes under the guise of getting them to be guests on the show, but in reality just because she can't trust her man.

This movie was tedious in a way that I can't even put into words, but I think it's enough to say that the hour and a half of my life that I will never get back will be sorely missed. The plot hinges on the idea that if you're dating someone who doesn't tell you every single minute detail of his dating life before you got together, that it's okay to snoop through his belongings and use duplicity and manipulation to find out the things you want to know. It paints a dreary picture for the state of true love, and it doesn't even do so with good acting or a strong plot. In fact, the only reason I gave this movie two stars instead of one is because Gavin Rossdale has a cameo and I just don't see enough of him these days. Take my advice and stay far far away from this stinker. If you want to be depressed about the state of relationships in today's world rent Closer, at least then you'll have some good acting to enjoy with the movie's pessimistic view of love.

3 out of 5 stars Fairly well executed formula entertainment.......2007-01-28

A TV talk show is having trouble coming up with new controversial entertainment. In the midst of ideas someone suggests that one can tell all about someone by reading their little electronic black book. The new girl on the block Stacy (Brittany Murphy) realizes that she does not know anything about her boyfriend Derek (Ron Livingston).

With the help of friends and co-workers they help Stacy exploit Derek's "Little Black Book". She may find out more than she wants to know. And to what end?

The story has a shackle takeoff a predictable middle and trouble wrapping up after the climax.

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't go to where the romantic comedy convention says it should..........2006-11-30

I wasn't very keen on seeing "Little Black Book" since it has suffered very bad reviews. Finally, I rented it and it wasn't a disappointment at all. The story is quite basic: Stacy (played by Brittany Murphy) is a TV producer for a well-known talk-show. Things are going great for her, and she doesn't mind that her boyfriend never discusses his old relationships - well, until her new co-worker Barb (Holly Hunter) suggests she should do some research. It's not long before Stacy stumbles upon her boyfriend's little black book, a.k.a. his palm pilot.
First of all, "Little Black Book" is NOT a regular comedy. Sure, there is plenty of dialogue to keep you smiling and a few laugh-out-loud moments, but the whole concept is just not of the comedic type. At least not in the script, but Murphy's amazing comedic talent (also shown in "Just Married") is evident here and it breathes life into the story.
Second, "Little Black Book" is NOT a ROMANTIC film. It starts off like that, but it crosses the finish line as a coming-of-age story. The publicity for this film didn't do it justice - the trailers showed a hilarious romantic comedy, spoiling all the jokes and sending a wrong impression. This is not, by any means, a perfect movie. However, Brittany Murphy, Holly Hunter and the considerable talents of Josie Maran and Julianne Nicholson make sure it's not mediocre, either.

4 out of 5 stars A Surprising Twist Into Ruthlessness.......2006-10-12

When my wife rented this movie I thought, 'Oh great, another chick-flick'! Boy was I wrong. Brittany Murphy carries the film quite well. Holly Hunter provides a great supporting roll while Ron Livingston's very small role was nothing more than a necessary prop to the plot. Sometimes digging for the truth can lead you down a tormented path. I found the movie interesting, moving and surprising! Recommended!!

What happens when a widowed mother and her two sons invite an injured drifter into their home? Put aside those modern, jaded visions of a psychotic killer on the rampage and enter the gentler, yet extremely rigid world of 1955 Suburbia USA. Jeanne Holman has lost her husband to the Korean War and is doing her best to support her family in a community that reveres conformity and frowns upon anyone who dares to be different. As Jeanne questions her chosen path, her oldest son Tom struggles to fit in with his peers and her youngest son, Gunny, who's frightened of virtually everything, is soon to be diagnosed with a serious illness. Enter a chance encounter with drifter Jack McCloud and his dog Betty Jane, and the pair temporarily move in with the Holman family. What essentially begins as one woman's act of guilt-induced charity evolves into a magical journey of personal growth for each family member. The end result is a wish come true for everyone involved. This film has widespread appeal: there's romance, magic, physical and spiritual journeys, self-revelation, and even a celebration of diversity and personal strength. The PG rating seems apt due to the film's intensity and one short almost nude scene. --Tami Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars More movies should have such integrity.......2007-01-13

This is a delightful movie. Not slick. So much feeling and some
delightful imagination. Wonderful morals. Good acting.
Great nostalgia for those of us who grew up in 50's/60's.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent family film.......2006-12-21

This is a very powerful film with an excellent message. Know what is really important in life and never give up. Patrick Swayze plays a drifter with the power to grant wishes. Swayze does a great job in this film and makes his character fairly realistic. Joseph Mazzello (The Tissue King) puts his best foot forward showing why he's cast in so many tear jerkers. I love this film and have it in my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2006-12-03

Misty eyes, This man with a dog, with a broken leg, things start to change for the better.

5 out of 5 stars Joe Mazzello is the Genius of this Film.......2006-10-20

I own this film and have seen it 3 times. So WHY, after a plethora of reviewers, do I now write a review? The answer is simple: Joe Mazzello.
Before I elaborate, I must give credit to Patrick Swayze, and to Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. They had moments in the film that were spectacular in all candor. No one doubts their talents, and this movie further supports my assertion.

But, back to Joe Mazzello. Joe is a 1990s and 21st Century acting phenomenon. He always gives 110% and I am almost certain that ALL of his takes are almost indistinguishable due to their consistency. He is THAT good, and this movie shows it. I believe that this movie was the FIRST REAL showing of his genuine capabilities ... capabilities elaborated upon and confirmed in 1997's "Star Kid" and in 1998's "Simon Birch."
I swear, Joe's portrayal was so convincing, that by the movie's end I vicariously wanted to buy an old-style bicycle, don a tee shirt, jeans and tennis shoes, and head to the field and play some baseball!
Joe Mazzello's motto about acting is this: "Just make it look REAL!"
And Joe made it look real in "Three Wishes." So, how do I know? I remember watching the Mickey Mouse Club on TV, in the 1950s. Joe was as real as it gets.

5 out of 5 stars Great film.......2005-11-26

I've watched this several times and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time.
I especially liked the behind the scenes story narration by director Coolidge, a second copy of the movie can be viewed with Coolidge's voice-over describing and explaining how the film was shot, backgrounds on the actors, sets and scenes- now THAT was a real cool bonus I haven't seen before.
