Inspired by the 1960s TV series that starred James Garner in the title role, this lightweight Western from 1994 proved to be a surprising box-office hit. Well, maybe not such a big surprise, since it's from the star and director of the Lethal Weapon movies, and operates with a similar combination of mainstream plotting and easygoing humor. Mel Gibson stars as card-playing gunslinger Brett Maverick, who meets up with wily gambler Annabelle Bransford (Jodie Foster) and a marshal named Zane Cooper (James Garner, trading his old role to Gibson) on his way to the World Series of poker in St. Louis. Maverick's trying to raise the $5,000 needed to join the high-stakes contest, but that's easier said than done due to a lot of unscrupulous competition and a twisting plot of tricks and deceptions. It's all played for laughs and action, so the movie never wears out its welcome, despite a running time that could've used a good trimming. It's also fun to see the rapport between Gibson and Garner, as if the present and former Mavericks were a kind of surrogate son and father, bonded by their mutual skill in charming and conning their way through tight spots. Director Richard Donner also pays tribute to old Westerns by casting veterans of the genre in cameo roles (including Bert Remsen, Dub Taylor, and Denver Pyle), and Gibson's Lethal Weapon costar Danny Glover pops in for a surprise appearance. None of this really adds up to much since the movie makes no pretense about taking itself seriously, but that's precisely why audiences found it so entertaining. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Terrific.......2007-06-08

The first time I saw this movie, I couldn't get up. Since then I've seen it several times and find the same thing each time.

It's a very clever comedy in which Mel Gibson and Jody Foster Co-star. The movie is "technically" a spoof of the TV series of the same name, but it's more enjoyable to see the movie not knowing that, as the recognition of references to the TV program are not necessary for the overall enjoyment.

It's such a terrific movie in fact, I'd suggest it for anyone, of any age; especially when you realize the movie does NOT have any strong language, extreme sexual content, many sexual references, or anything that may not be 'ideal' for small children to see.

This is a must see for anybody.

5 out of 5 stars My Maverick Review.......2007-05-12

It ws great I enjoy watching this movie over and over again. Thanks

2 out of 5 stars A stinker.......2007-04-04

This is a two star stinker. We were promised hilarity, and all we got was smirking, a very thin story, and excessive length. Either a film is a put-on or not, and this movie could not quite make up its mind. The comedy bits fall extremely flat, and the violence is just plain nasty, as is some of the language. In short, a complete waste of time that does nothing for the reputation of Gibson and Foster.

4 out of 5 stars Maverick - DVD.......2007-03-28

I love this movie but was a little disapointed because the movie had finger prints all over it and it was a little scratched. The DVD was labeled as "like new".

5 out of 5 stars Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster - cheater on cheater.......2007-01-27

Maverick is a "who-cheats-who?"-comedy about a number of tricksters who converge on a riverboat-gambling-competition in the Wild West. It resembles a 1940-screwball-comedy more than a western, and Jodie Foster reminded this reviewer of Katharine Hepburn at her best.

It is very enjoyable to watch Jodie Foster and a very confident Mel Gibson together, and it seems like they really enjoyed making this movie.

How to play poker? Or how to get a lot of money to take part in big tournament? Or how to win tournament? But the main question is: how not lose all your money after you won it?

If you like poker - you would definitely wanna watch this film.

Like the animated series it's based on, Aeon Flux is the kind of sci-fi that's best appreciated by the MTV generation. It's a serious attempt at stylized, futuristic action/adventure (the title character, played by Charlize Theron, is essentially a female James Bond for the cyberpunk era) and taken for what it is, it's not all that bad. The action takes place in the year 2415, four centuries after a virus nearly decimated the human race, leaving only five million survivors in a utopian city called Bregna. Aeon belongs to the Monicans, a secret rebel resistance force that is struggling to destroy the Goodchild regime led by its namesake, Trevor Goodchild (Martin Csokas), the ruler of Bregna and a descendant of the man who found a cure for the deadly virus. As instructed by the Handler (Frances McDormand, gamely playing along in ridiculous sci-fi regalia), Aeon is assigned to assassinate Goodchild, but there are deeper secrets to be discovered, and conspiracies to be foiled. This leads director Karyn Kusama (who fared much better with her debut feature Girlfight) to indulge in all sorts of routine action and fast-paced gunplay, but the elusive pleasures of Aeon Flux are mostly found in the sleek athleticism of Theron and costar Sophie Okonedo (as a fellow Monican), who commit themselves 100% to roles that are dramatically flat yet physically dynamic. Other highlights include Aeon's high-tech gadgetry (including an eyeball that doubles as a microsocope) and the amusing sight of Pete Postlethwaite in a costume resembling a construction-site disposal tube, but Flux fans may wonder what happened to the surreal, chromium sheen future that gave the MTV series its visionary appeal. As a live-action feature, Aeon Flux is a miscalculated exercise in cheesy style and dour tone, but it's entertaining enough to earn a small cadre of admirers. --Jeff Shannon

Description

400 years in the future, after a virus decimates the world population, only one city on Earth remains. Ruled by the Goodchild dynasty, it is a perfect society of peace and prosperity - except that its citizens keep mysteriously disappearing. Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron stars as Aeon Flux, a secret agent/assassin/warrior whose mission is to bring down the regime. But as she goes deeper into her mission, Aeon uncovers some shocking secrets that jeopardize the mission - and her life.

3 out of 5 stars Buy it because Charlize Theron is hot, not because you are and AEON FLUX fan........2007-07-03

This film fell short in many categories. It was a simplified, stupified, redheaded step child of the original series. It lacked finesse and the sexuality you would expect from a film emulating the AEON FLUX series. Charlize Theron is hot though.........

3 out of 5 stars Too much Too soon.......2007-06-03

I just purchased and watched this DVD. And although Charlize Theron is near genetic perfection and she is definitly a sensual being, big pluses, you can not make a provacetive scifi action picture in 90 minutes. The picture lacks to much story to be truly appealing. In order for the movie to work as it had hoped we need to care about the lead character and care about what she cares about... always an important point in good movie making. But we are brought into the story and her life much to late to do either. The filmed which hoped to be heavy, ends up feeling light. We needed to see what drove her to where she is now and why it is important, we get neither. Jonny Lee Miller is a menacing villian, very important, but has too little screen time and too little to do to really scare us. But the story just lacks, we need to know why it is so important for Aeon to do what she is doing, why has she become the no. 1 Monicle assasin, and we need to be startled that she has strong emotional feelings for the person she is determinded to kill, we get neither. I might think budget constrictions had a lot to do with why this picture did not succeed. All the elements are here for a really good film, but there is not enough film to make it one. The picture comes of as sort of a modern age "Logon's run"... ( also not to be crase, but a real love scene with real sexual situations might have help convice us more that there was something deep here). Stylish and defintly futuristic in a believable way...I am just left wanting a lot more.

4 out of 5 stars Aeon Flux (Special Collector's Edition).......2007-05-13

This film is great for the futuristically Sifi inclined watcher however if you have seen the hype of the film you may be let down by this movie. I would say Give this film a day in court and see what you think of this film, Its one of those that each individual will really like or will really not like. One thing I can promise is that the speciall effects are Phenominal.

5 out of 5 stars That's true science fiction!.......2007-05-12

I had not seen such a science fiction movie in a long time! The story is really good and unfolds nicely. There is a mix of science, imaginary, and a lot of action. Excellent!

3 out of 5 stars Enormous potential; average outcome.......2007-04-23

First let me say that I liked the movie. It's fun and my attention did not waver. I like watching Charlize Theron, a chameleon of a woman (remember her as the homely, overweight serial-killer from "Monster?") and possibly among the best actresses alive today. In addition, the action was paced rather well. And, yes, I recommend watching... as a rental.

My reservations stem from the insult to my intelligence delivered by a ludicrous plot. The writer lacked imagination to sew his plot together, and therefore relied on the most outrageous twists and turns that can only strike the audience as false. I am not even going to begin exploring all the inconsistencies, logical fallacies, and outright irrational behavior of characters in the film. It's a film made of swiss cheese, rife with holes, and you just have to put your thinking mind on a shelf, and regress to childhood and ENJOY. Because the action is fun.

So this is a three or four-beer movie, if you like your suds; or perhaps you can regress without chemical assistance. Based upon the lamentable dearth of good sci-fi movies, I must recommend Aeon Flux because it's not bad and rather a dashing fun little flick. Just don't expect logic or consistency.

Video games are interesting because they're interactive, and movies because they aren't. In a video game, you're the actor; moviegoing depends on your connecting with those people up on the screen;. There's really no easy crossover.

That's the problem with Wing Commander, based on the bestselling computer game series created by Chris Roberts. Roberts helms the film, too, having previously directed "cinematic" sequences for the game, starring Mark Hamill from Star Wars, no less. But a feature-length story is something else again. Maybe gamers will find something to enjoy here, but that sets the rest of us adrift.

There's war between the Terran Confederation and the evil Kilrathi, who are so evil they want to destroy the whole universe. (They probably aren't thinking that through very clearly. But then they're evil.) They've stolen the Pegasus Navicom A.I. device that enables them to "jump" behind enemy lines and destroy the Earth part of the universe. Freddie Prinze Jr. stars as Blair, a Pilgrim, which means he's hated by everybody for having this film's answer to the Force. His pal Matthew Lillard plays Maniac (his usual role). So you've got two guys with a Top Gun complex, bent on preventing the Kilrathi from destroying Earth. You'd expect lots of action from these combat-ready flyboys. But there's scant little of that, and lots of static dialogue scenes, including one cinematic quote of Howard Hawks's classic Only Angels Have Wings to explain how pilots handle the death of one of their own. Presumptuous. All it would have taken to make this film a success is a series of action set pieces and a thin plot to hang them from. What director Roberts needed was a Navicom device to help him "jump" behind Hollywood lines. That and a decent script. --Jim Gay

1 out of 5 stars If you hear a box office flop in the middle of space..........2007-05-23

should you watch it? NO! Whatever the guy below me thinks that this movie is the Holy Grail of scifi movies needs to have someone hire a B list celebrity (maybe Freddie Prinze Jr.) to go to his house and slap him in the face with a white glove! How in the world can anyone compare this movie with anything but a paper wieght is beyond me. The plot is as deep as a puddle, the acting... well, Freddie Prinze and Mathew Lillard hahahaha they suck and hollywood was hoping that they would be the next Damon and Afleck combo. Don't get me wrong I think Damon/Afleck suck too.Special effects are good though but nothing impressive considering all the advancement that we have made in that department. Considering that this MOVIE was concieved after a GAME I believe that there should be some continuity and relation to the game. So all you people who say that this is A MOVIE and not a GAME, yeah we know that. I hope that you never find yourself in a position to watch a representation of something you like be bent over backwards. Guess that explains how I feel about the MOVIE. I think that this movie sucks.

3 out of 5 stars First scene using Bullet- time .......2007-03-14

The movie is sub-par the plot is very loosly based but then again it is a sci-fi movie. The one plus point is it shows one of the very first applications of bullet time as seen in the matrix, swordfish, etc. It does have a pretty cool effect.

4 out of 5 stars Wing Commander dvd.......2007-03-08

If you played any of the pc/video games than you know how much they left out of this movie. Still, its one of the best "B" movies I've ever bought. I enjoy it every time I watch it.

5 out of 5 stars A Crusade of Good Taste. The Holy Grail of Science Fiction.......2007-02-19

Brilliantly scripted and marvelously acted Sci-Fi movie based on the all-time favorite PC-game. The intense combination of an intergalactic war-story and a classic Shakespearian love-tale makes this movie an adrenaline-pumping tears-jerker of historical proportion. Mankind can traverse the darkest depths of space, it will always bring along its emotions!
The Kilrathi character-depth is the secret of its success, diminishing the personality of Hamlet to a superficial cartoon-character. While the lines spoken by the Kilrathi have the rhythm of a Swiss watch, it is the depth of their meanings that truly fascinates. Only repeated viewing can reveal the many layers of its message. Once discovered, your will agree that this is what takes Wing Commander beyond the level of the greatest classics of Hollywood or even global cinema.
The people of the future will divide human history in the pre-Wing Commander era (or the Dark Age) and the post-Wing Commander era, when humanity finally became enlightened by this masterpiece and its powerful message. At a lower level, you are bound to forget the part of your life that was spent - wasted really - before you could become a wittness yourself to the brillance that is Wing Commander.
Oscars may be awarded for artistry in film-making, only a Nobel Prize (or several) could do justice to the levels of excellence reached by Wing Commander. This production will no-doubt be remembered by the many generations to come as a turning point in movie-making. How many ages hence, shall thsi our lofty scene be acted over? Its message, when correctly interpreted, will influence society as only the Holy Bible may have done before.
Be ready to experience never-felt-before emotions as you watch this hallmark movie over and over again. It will leave its tracks on your soul - tractor-pull deep tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Fifty-Year Anniversary of TV's Best Western.......2007-03-20

This DVD must have been set out by Warner Bros as a trial run to test the waters for a complete-series release. The episodes on this DVD are some of the series' best, and the picture quality is top-notch. But there's another 121 episodes lying around in the Warner's vaults, most of which are nearly equally good. Where are they?

It's hard to believe but, for those of us who grew up in the 1950s, television westerns (good and bad) were a monotonous staple that could not be avoided -- the number of shows that plied the airwaves in those days simply defies belief. Sure, they all used the same formula -- drifting, melancholy cowboys who occasionally got into trouble but were essentially free, unencumbered and happy. But Maverick was the best of the lot. More often likely to run away from a gunfight than risk injury, the Maverick brothers combined humor and drama in a truly innovative way for the times, and this DVD represents a great sampling of the show.

So where are the rest?

4 out of 5 stars Release the whole series.......2007-03-18

This DVD was good but it could have been great. Why not follow the lead of Cheyenne and release the series. Commentary by James Garner would also add a classic touch. James Garner WAS Maverick. Jack Kelly was simply the "brother." Did anyone ever look better siting at a poker table than James Garner dressed in his Maverick garb? He was probably the finest tv actor of all time. Warner brothers has a gold mine in its Westerns and detective shows. Why not release 77 Sunset Strip with commentaries by all 3 leads while they are all still with us?

5 out of 5 stars Hey Warner Bro's--Release "Maverick" season one .......2007-02-26

I bought the Warner Bro's Cheyenne-TV Favorites release when it came out last year, and really enjoyed it.Several months later Warner release the first season of Cheyenne on dvd(which I promptly bought).
This lead me to belevieve that the "TV Favorites" was Warner's way of seeing if there was enough interest to release a first season of a classic tv show.
I don't know what the number are/were but I'm still waiting for "Maverick" Season One.
Maverick was a late 1950's western which starred James Garner and Jack Kelly and was really a well written, well acted series with a good cast(as well as good guest stars).
This dvd has three episodes(Shady Deal at Sunny Acres,Pappy, and Gun-Shy), which I enjoyed(especially the Gun-Shy episode which is a spoof of Gunsmoke).
If your a fan of westerns,James Garner or (James Garner westerns),I think That you'll enjoy this dvd.

This dvd FORCES you to watch advertisements when you put the disk in. It disables your Menu and Skip buttons. This is a really poor way to treat someone who just shelled out money for your movie.

1 out of 5 stars Save yourself the pain!.......2007-03-12

Wow, something smells really bad- oh yeah- it's this movie.

Slick box design and James Caan (why oh why did he involve himself in this?? Is he that in need of the $$??)

Other than these two selling points this has to rate as one of the worst vanity projects in the history of cinema.

The producer made himself the star even though he can't act. His two sidekicks are good actors. Big mistake- he should've cast bad actors to work near him so he wouldn't look as bad as he does.

Stay as far away as humanly possible. You've been warned!

Oh yeah, the same star/producer promoted himself as being supposedly "mobbed up" in reality. I wouldn't worry about it- by the looks of him he looks like he could hardly hurt himself...

5 out of 5 stars first rate mafia film.......2007-01-03

If you appreciate the mafia genre, you will enjoy this film.

It has a very authentic mafia tone, good plot, classic mafia characters, good acting, all-in-all it's far above the average.

For Aerosmith fans, Brad Whitford's cameo is fun, but Joe Perry's contribution to the music is disappointing (basically just a few seconds of guitar), and the intro to the music video with Steve Tyler and Perry is just silly.

4 out of 5 stars Silly plot, but the authentic-sounding dialogue is great!.......2006-06-25

This Mafia story has a lot of familiar elements. I've seen most of the actors in other Mafia movies and can well understand why. Yes, they are typecast. That's because they are so authentic.

The plot is silly but it doesn't matter. It's an old theme, just a bit updated. The mob is now moving into cyberspace and international bank accounts. The young bucks in this film get an egghead computer guy to help. And from there on the fun begins. There's lots of violence and double crossing. But the most memorable stuff of all is the way the gangsters sit around a table and tell tale tales, insulting each other and having a grand old time. I don't think there's a dialogue coach in the world who would be able to teach them the nuances and the inflections. It is all very real.

The story is cardboard though. A whole bunch of people get killed. And there's not a bit of love interest in the whole thing. Frankly, I love this type of film and I really enjoyed it. But I guess I'm just weird this way. Recommended for Mafia film buffs only.

2 out of 5 stars Okay, so it's a "Sopranos" wannabe, but it has its merits.......2006-06-06

Yes, it's about "good fellas." Yes, it's peopled with alumni from the "Sopranos" (weakly cracking wise). And there are too many requisite bullets-to and through-the-head cinemagraphic moments. The plot is pretty weak - the downloading of money from a satellite requires a great deal of imaginative assent - the development of the story is uneven, and the acting is transparently bad on not just a few occasions. Still, the actor-writer-director, Provenzano, shows flashes and this would have been a very good end-of-college project for a cinema student. (Is that what it was?)

What you have to like about it is what he tries to do, not dislike what he doesn't do. Provenzano occasionally gives us - just now and again - the atmosphere of the NY-NJ crime-world, but these are far, far better than any portrayed in the "Sopranos." The dedication to business, the rock bottom-line mentality, the utterly cold sides that appear inhuman, in short, the "other" side of the human coin are nicely revealed in some very chilling scenes. Uncle ordering the death of his nephew's friends before his eyes; Johnny Irish bashing heads or killing; the torture scene: to paraphrase Tessio in "Godfather I," "nothing personal, just business.") (Of course, it has been alleged that the members of the underworld carted away and sold much metal from the WTC towers in the immediate aftermath of 9-11. "Just business.")

Thus, there is none of that revolting soap opera component that is increasingly dominating the "Sopranos" has become. (Indeed, the "Sopranos" jumped the shark many moons ago.) So try this one on for size. Sure, its production values are poor, some scenes are painful, you keep comparing to other Mafia-movies. But there are some hidden gems for those who look. (Yeah, I agree: Johnny Irish was a good character. The FBI guy, however, was agony to watch.)

Two stars for effort and for promise. Serious cinema students should check out Provenzano's next.

Top Gun gets the reality-TV treatment in American Fighter Pilot, a riveting seven-hour TV series that grants an all-access pass to the Air Force's most elite pilot training program. Produced immediately following the terrorist attacks on New York's World Trade Center on 9/11/01, this is a serious examination of Air Force culture and the profound responsibility of warriors-in-training. The glory and glamour of being an F-15 "Eagle Driver" is presented as a noble privilege, in addition to the sheer adrenaline rush of piloting the Air Force's most versatile jet-fighter killing machine. Coproduced by Top Gun director Tony Scott and his director brother Ridley, and created with intelligent focus by Jesse Negron, AFP follows every stage of a pilot's rigorous 110-day training course at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, where "Top Gun" hopefuls endure an intense regimen of academics, flight simulation, two-man flights with intensely critical trainers, solo flight tests, basic fighter maneuvers, weapons deployment, dogfight combat scenarios and, ultimately, the selection of a "Top Gun" pilot in each graduating class.

There's plenty of high drama and male bonding to accompany AFP's wall-to-wall soundtrack. Most of the series' appeal comes from its focus on three well-chosen pilots-in-training: A promising Top-Gun candidate with prior experience as a B1 Bomber pilot; a devout Christian and expectant first-time father; and a hot-shot maverick who learns there's more to being a fighter-ace than living the Tom Cruise lifestyle. Their different personalities give the series a perfect blend of style and substance, and the constant threat of failure gives each of them added depth and conviction that anyone can relate to. These are proud, respectable young men who are living their dream, but AFP never forgets the higher purpose to which they've been called. A basic "making-of" featurette shows how the series' amazing in-flight footage was achieved. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars A great program, polluted with some annoying editing.......2007-04-29

I originally found out about this program when viewing a Google Video trailer for a documentary that used to be called "Eagle Drivers". The trailer included various briefing shots, small insights about life in a squadron, and some vary nice aerial and flightline footage. I was thrilled that someone was going to release a documentary that actually went into some detail about the training procedures and life as an aspiring military aviator instead of a dull narrative dubbed to dated, stock footage of military flying.

I did a little bit of searching and discovered that the project had turned into a "reality" TV show which was unfortunately canceled after a few episodes had aired. I wasn't able to find any more footage online than just the trailer, and I was very intrigued to check out the show. I found it here and was a little put-off by some of the reviews, but I decided to take the plunge.

It is a 3 DVD set and spans 7 one-hour episodes an an hour-long interview. The show follows 3 Lieutenants who are beginning training at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, FL to fly and fight in the F-15C. A big part of what drew me to the program is how much I like that plane. 2 of the pilots, Todd Giggy and Marcus Gregory, are straight out of Undergraduate Pilot Training and only have a small amount of flying experience from the airframes there (the T-37 and T-38). The other pilot, Mike Love, has former experience as a B-1 pilot.

They are filmed during various briefings and debriefings, simulator and centrifuge training, at the squadron bar, at home with their families, and there are a lot of shots with comments and personal insights from the pilots themselves. There are also numerous commentary shots from instructors and family members of the pilots, and it is really a great way to get a personal view of what is going on.

There was a lot of great aerial footage in the trailer I watched, and I saw that great aerial footage again. The only problem was that this footage was all I saw in pretty much every flying scene. It becomes increasingly obvious with each episode that they had a small amount of aerial and cockpit footage and they had to reuse it in as many different ways possible, such as reversing the image, using high-contrast filters on some shots, etc.

There are also some staged cockpit shots in which the pilot jerks the stick and throttle around, complete with exaggerated "clanging" sound effects. It was a little cheesy, but it's understandable that the camera crew probably would not be allowed to film a ton of flying footage. However, there are a lot of great shots of the flightline at Tyndall, and it's a pretty awe-inspiring sight to see the groups of planes all taxiing together at Tyndall on a sunny day.

All this talk about the footage gets me to the complaint that I'm sure you've already read about numerous times. The editing. The show is edited in the cheesy, short-attention span MTV style. Camera angles change rapidly every few seconds and random parts of dialog are emphasized with cheesy echo sounds put on the voice and a caption of the words placed on the screen. Although it is disappointing, I can understand why this editing might be necessary on the flying scenes since they apparently didn't have a lot of footage, but it gets pretty annoying after a while. Some of it seems really unnecessary though, like the captions during simulated training missions stating whether each pilot passed or not, as if the viewer really couldn't tell by watching the show.

Although all of the episodes are abundant in this cheesy style of editing, it seems to cool down a bit after the first few episodes. There's a lot less of the "emphasis on a particular phrase" thing. The thing that disappoints me the most is just that I wish they would have spent more time in each episode on each particular part and not jump around so much, but this is understandable because most average television viewers would not be looking for a very in-depth look at what goes on.

A lot of people claim the show was canceled because of its editing style, but I disagree. A majority of the "reality" shows you see on major-networks have editing just like this and they seem to do fine. I think the show was canceled because the average viewer isn't too interested in military aviation to begin with, and because there actually isn't really a ton of drama going on throughout the program (which is what most of these average viewers want). It's a real shame, but at least those of us who do care about what happened can now purchase this DVD set.

Anyway, if you can look past the editing, there is a great program here. Although it is not the most in-depth look at it you could ever get, it does put things into perspective a bit and gives you a very good idea of what the pilots have to go through and it is very entertaining. I'd highly recommend this program to anyone who is at least moderately interested in military aviation.

3 out of 5 stars The story is good but the editing is bahhh........2007-04-27

I brought this together with the following:

Blue Angels: A Year In The Life
Fighter Pilot - Operation Red Flag (IMAX) (2-Disc WMVHD Edition)
The Magic of Flight (IMAX) (2-Disc WMVHD Edition) D

IMHO the editing of the video is like a movie trailer and too much gimmick. There are far too many scenes of dialoges remix and flashy replays. It slow down the rhythm of the story needlessly. To a certain point I got a little frustrated and thought I was watching a Rap /Hip Hop MTV. I did finish watching the whole video and think one can get use to the editing if one makes it through the first episode.

Apart from the bad thing mentioned, I actually enjoy the story of the three student pilots, however it was a bit too dramatic to my taste. e.g. they all face disqualification crisis in the story but all made it pass on their last try. Nice (but only okay video quality) dogfight scenes. Most are played out in external 3rd person views, just don't expect to see any great cockpit action. I get better treat from my F-16 flight sim cockpit.

All in all it may worth your money if you are really into jet fighter stuff, since there ain't much choice out there when it comes to fighter pilot documentary.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Inspiring Video Worth Your Money.......2007-04-01

A great story about patriotism and overcoming obstacles to achieve your dream. A lesson more Americans need to hear today. I used to fly with this squadron in the early 90's as a geek in the back seat of the I.P.'s jet when they were teaching these students and I can tell you that this video only covers a small portion of everything these pilots have to go through. Buy this video and show it to everyone you know.

    1 out of 5 stars Predictable!.......2007-07-04

A married woman has an affair with a male high school graduate. This is a B-movie meant for those seeking titillation.

Wearing my feminist cap, it's good that older woman-younger man movies can be made and not just older man-younger woman ones. But that's where the good stuff stops. In typical, heteropatriarchal fashion, there is female nudity here, but no male nudity.

In the same way that "Juwanna Mann" asked all the given questions about a man posing as a female basketball player, this asks all the questions you'd expect. Will the husband find out? Why isn't the younger man seeking women his age? Will the younger man's parents find out? How long can this relationship last? It's funny that many American filmmakers and television producers are squeamish about teen sexuality, and yet the young lover here is constantly drinking alcohol though he's probably 18 and not 21.

The ending may surprise some, but it will be obvious to many.
