Kids still love 'em!.......2007-06-26

When I started teaching five years ago, at an admittedly advanced age, I looked for Our Mr Sun and was so happy to find it. Get this: the kids in my 7th grade classes like it. They also like kidding the living daylights out of me b/c it's my favorite ("Look you guys! It's the same animation as Mr. Magoo!" "Who?"). Still a wonderful conversation starter and highly accessible explanations of thermonuclear reactions and photosynthesis.

Plus all your baby boomer friends will be very jealous that you own it.

This video was what I remember seeing when I was in grade school in the 50s. It's still an interesting and entertaining video and I'm glad it is available.

Yes, these are two of the Bell Labs movies you sat through in elementary school: science made accessible by the Scientist and the Writer. The animation is campy, the science sometimes dated, sometimes remarkably accurate, and the overall tone is a remarkable time capsule for Baby Boomers. I enjoyed watching these films with my high school-age children as much as I did sitting on the floor of my classroom.

In elementary school in the 50s, we watched this film a few times. I remember its being extremely interesting and I've always had a great respect for Dr. Frank Baxter. Upon seeing it again, nearly 50 years later, I was surprised at how forward-thinking it was, preaching the virtues of solar power and the need to develop alternate fuels since our fossil fuels were, even then, known to be limited. It was also fascinating to see how excited the filmmakers were that we had developed the hydrogen bomb. There's quite a religious slant to the film which no one questioned at the time, even in public schools. The quality of the transfer is good and viewers will enjoy seeing a very young Eddie Albert.

Something's missing!.......2007-03-16

I love these old films, and the picture quality on this disc is top-notch, but I have to give it a mediocre review because this version of "Our Mister Sun" has been edited. There's something missing in the opening credits, as evidenced by an obvious still-frame that's been superimposed over the sequence, and the closing are credits are COMPLETELY MISSING! There's just a still-frame image that says "The End." Very poorly done.

This copy of "Cosmic Rays," though, seems to be all there.

I recommend this disc for fans of this series, but you need to be aware that "Mr. Sun" is incomplete. There are no extras on the disc, either.

The canine member of the Superman family got his own Cartoon Network series in 2005, and the first volume, Cosmic Canine, is a random collection of five 12-minute episodes (including the two-part opener). We meet Krypto, the pet of Kal-El who was also sent to Earth before Krypton exploded and who discovers the Earth's yellow sun gives him amazing powers such as flight, strength, and heat vision. The opener features a cameo by Superman, long enough to agree to Krypto's staying with an Earth boy named Kevin. Krypto's challenges include saving a ship full of zoo animals, battling a Kryptonian superflea, dealing with a giant caterpillar, and saving a helpless (or so he thinks) kitten from a pack of super-powered dogs called the Dog Stars. Krypto's contributing talent includes Alan Burnett and Paul Dini of the well-regarded Superman and Batman animated series, but it's aimed at a much younger crowd. Description

A superdog from Planet Krypton, who comes to earth after traveling across the galaxies as a test pilot puppy aboard a malfunctioning rocket ship built by Superman's father. Krypto the Superdog is a really good way to get the younger kids to love super heroes from the start. The whole show has the perfect technique to appeal children and hook that super hero lust for life. It's a masterpiece!

A new classic.......2006-06-22

This show is trully classic, Paul Dini (writer of the well known Batman, Superman and Justice League cartoons) is part of the project and it shows. Unlike the shows mentioned earlier this show is for young kids, however it is written very well that an adult can sit through the episodes and enjoy them. The whole show feels retro, fromt he theme song to the episode splash. The show so far has also gotten development and keeps getting better with a big cast of supporting characters, from his owner Kevin and Ace the Bathound (batman's dog) all the way to Streaky the cat and the Dog patrol.

However, since the show is aimed at young kids, so is this dvd, with only 5 twelve minute episodes, it hardly feels worth it, hopefully it'll get some better releases later as this is a great show.

Finally! "Superhero" cartoons for young kids!.......2006-06-20

These are excellent retro-style cartoons, perfect for young children. If you are looking for Superman/Batman style entertainment for your kids, without all the explosions and fights, then this is it! My four-year-old loves Superman's dog, and my two-year old loves Streaky the Cat! I would give it five stars, but 60 minutes is pretty skimpy if I'm going to take up space in the DVD cabinet. The first 30 minutes is already marketed on a DVD that comes with Krypto's Rocket Toy. (Which my son, Krypto's #1 fan, already has.) Any fan of Superman will enjoy seeing that his dog Krypto has finally gotten the spotlight he deserves! Krypto was actually in many of the Superman comics of the 50's and 60's. The stories are well written, and targeted to young children. The animation here is top-notch, and may remind you of "the Jetsons" cartoons.

I have always been a DC Comics fan!! My favorite title as a kid was Adventure Comics because I wanted to grow up to be Supergirl!You might think I wanted to be Supergirl because she was brave or smart or pretty or cool or Super but you would be wrong to think that. I wanted to be Supergirl because Streaky was her Superpet!!!!When I heard that Cartoon Network was making a Krypto cartoon I was excited; When I heard Streaky would be in it I was elated!!!
This show is fun!!Watch it!!!
