Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great Beginning, lousy end.......2002-12-26

I watched the first one on VHS, and was appalled by the dub. I loved everything else about it, and decided to watch the next one. It went downhill from there. The animation on the second one is bad and the characters change. It ends without explaining everything too.

4 out of 5 stars Great but incomplete.......2001-09-11

Yes, this is incomplete. Some of the more minor story elements do get resolved, but some major ones remain. In response to another reviewer, my DVD had the title "Legend of the Last Labyrinth" on each episode. "Princess Rouge" was the title used for the dubbed edition of the tape and in previews for the tape. AnimeWorks is not the only one to use different titles for subbed and dubbed editions. ADV changed "My Dear Marie" to "Metal Angel Marie" for the dubbed version.

A beautiful girl falls out of the sky and lands in Yusuke's lap - literally. However, she has no memory of who she is. Her sisters, Kaige and Meige, show up looking for her. Some enemies of her family are also trying to find her.

The case makes references to Oh My Goddess and Video Girl Ai. I don't see anything like Ai here. There is much that is like Oh My Goddess - even the voice actors in the dubbed version. You have three sisters, and one of them gets emotionally involved with a mortal.

The Music Video is really just the preview AnimeWorks used. The Fun in the Studio is great - if you like the type of humor presented. It takes on a new meaning now that I know the two voice actors are married. The Fun mainly involves scenes of Yusuke and Rouge with new dialogue. Most of it is along the lines of "Nice dye job. Do it yourself?" "One can short of a six-pack." ...

This DVD has one unusual quirk. The subtitles are controlled with the Angle controls instead of the Subtitle. (With most anime, I often switch settings after the show starts to compare the dubbed translation with the subtitles.)

This DVD is recommended for ages 13 and up according to case.

1 out of 5 stars I can't believe they brought this unfinished work overseas........2001-01-01

IT WAS LIKE READING A BOOK WITH NO ENDING, written by someone who had died before they had finished writing. I liked it! I really enjoyed it! And then, it ended. And there was no resolution. And then I learned that there would never be a resolution, because the series had been scrapped after the two episodes on this disc. Okay. Whose idea was it to bring these over??? And market it to hopeless otakus like me? It's beautifully done, cute and worth watching, but I would have rather not seen it at all than be forced to just abandon the storyline because it was never finished.

3 out of 5 stars A Tale of Loser Boy and Cute Girl.......2000-07-28

A bit of a warning: the Legend of the Last Labyrinth is actually the DVD title of the previously released VHS sub. Princess Rouge. I don't know why Media Works re-named it for the DVD and dub. release, especially since the title at the begining of the episodes is Princess Rouge.

Title difficulties aside, this is a fairly medicore disk. There isn't even a flyer with chapter selections inside the case. The Music Video is the opening sequence without the credits and the Art Gallery has only a few note worthy pictures, most are just freeze frames of scens from the show, which is fairly pointless as I could just have well paused it at those moments if I really desired a closer look at the art. The one feature that makes this disk worth watching is the Fun in the studio, where the voice actors make up their own lines in a few of the scenes. These were absolutly hysterical and really made it worth the purchase of the DVD over the tape.

The show itself tries to combine Oh My Goddess with just about any sword and sorcery story. Loser Boy finds Cute Girl in trouble. Loser Boy helps out. He and Cute Girl fall in love. Forces try and keep them apart. Will they survive? There are only two parts in this series and it leaves an incompleate story, which is another bother for those who like to know what happens to Loser Boy, Cute Girl, and crew. It isn't all bad, there are a couple of really good scenes that save the show and make it worth watching

3 out of 5 stars A promising start, but..........2000-06-19

After seeing the first episode I was quite pleased with this one. It had a nice storyline, well drawn characters and animation, it's quite good mixture of fantasy-romantic-comedy (father and mother in heaven! ). However the second episode is a completely different case. It seems the the production company itself changed. The story gets dull, the characters change a bit, and the animation is nothing compared to the first episode. No wonder they didn't make any more of it. In a nutshell the first episode is great, I can recommend it to every anime fan, however the second episode you must approach with caution, it's something else.
