In 2040 heavy labor in Tokyo is done by the Genom Corporation's robot "Boomers." But Boomers sometimes go berserk and attack humans. Only the Knight Sabers, a cadre of female vigilante mercenaries who fight in high-heeled armor suits, can take down a rogue Boomer. Klutzy Linna Yamasaki comes to Tokyo to join them. The group comprises rock singer Priss Asagiri, police officer Nene Romanova, and lingerie boutique owner Sylia Stingray, who heads the squad. A series of attacks sends the quartet looking for the lab where Sylia's father used members of his family in the bio-technical experiments that created the Boomers--and a creature so dangerous that Genom triggered an earthquake that destroyed most of Tokyo to imprison it. The vice president of Genom releases it: Galatea, the Sotai. An innocent-looking girl, Galatea somehow "merges her consciousness" with the Genom skyscraper and launches it into space. Gaining control of a satellite power network will enable her to spread madness to Boomers throughout world and become the master of mankind. The Knight Sabers suddenly develop the power to bond with their armor suits, and instead of destroying Galatea, they cause her to merge with the universe: she rains onto the Earth as a shower of glittering particles. Bubblegum Crisis owes its popularity to its no-holds-barred action by tough female characters, without the theological speculations of a series like Evangelion. Galatea's transformation into a benevolent visionary feels as incongruous as Darth Vader's deathbed repentance in The Return of the Jedi. Rated 15 Up: Violence, profanity, nudity; alcohol and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars The Knight Sabers & AD Police Ride Again! .......2006-08-28

Back in the mid/late 80s, an OAV anime by title of "Bubblegum Crisis" (which I think is a military slang term for when technical equipment goes haywire) made its debut on video, taking inspiration from "Blade Runner", "The Terminator" and maybe even "Robocop", with a little dash of Batman/Bruce Wayne - Iron Man/Tony Stark and Charlie's Angel's girl power thrown in for good measure. 8 episodes long, the overall story was that in 21st century Tokyo, Japan, year 2032-2033, living machines called Boomers were doing manual labor and sometimes cause problems. A special, SWAT like branch of law enforcers, the Advanced Police (AD Police for short) were formed to handle the boomers, but were mostly ineffective, prompting millionaire scientist Sylia Stingray, the daughter of the scientist who made the boomers, to create four powered combat armor (hard suits) to be worn by women to fight the boomers and fight the evil corporation that produced the boomers, GENOM. That group becomes known as the Knight Sabers, and in addition to ring leader Sylia, her rag-tag band of rebel women included Priss Asagiri, a struggling rock and roll gal with a passion for motorcycles and a disdain for cops, Linna Yamazaki, an aerobics instructor with an eye for money and a tendency to blow through boyfriends, and Nene Romanova, a young officer of the ADP and expert computer hacker (the first in a long line). GENOM, meanwhile, is represented by Quincy, a tall, gaunt old guy who happens to own the company, his younger assistant Brian J. Mason (killed in episode 3) and an annoying boomer man named Largo. Other characters included Leon McNichol and Daley Wong, two AD Police detectives (Leon appeared in a spin-off/prequel anime, "AD Police Files" which I heard was very dark), their balding, overweight boss Chief Todo, Sylia's younger brother Mackey, and a funny little mechanic known as Dr. Raven, who apparently helps Sylia with maintaining the suits. Aside from the overall Knight Sabers & AD Police VS GENOM storyline, there was also another storyline involving a friend of Linna's who was apparently a daughter in a big crime family, the annoying Largo trying to usurp GENOM, and various Priss-wants-revenge-for-a-minor-character story. Oh and did I mention that there were hints that Sylia herself might have been a boomer?

Well, it was a great watch, full of chaos and mayhem and even some very nice pop songs, but it was not without its flaws, some of which, unfortunately, were due to the fact that the series was discontinued after episode 8 when it was originally planned for 13 episodes in all. So some of the storylines, like Largo's scheme (or schemes), the family of Linna's ill-fated friend, and Sylia's origins, were never resolved. Another problem with the series was that at the time Priss was the most popular character, so a good portion of the series focused on her, and unfortunately, most of the Priss oriented episodes basically focused on Priss self-righteously seeking justice/revenge for some secondary character who had never appeared before but happened to be a friend of hers, yet she rarely went out of her way for her the Knight Sabers, who were always bailing her out of trouble and for some reason cared a great deal about her well-being (just to be fair though, she did go to rescue Linna in episode 7, and her boyfriend got killed by a boomer and the ADP acted wrongly in the investigation). This meant we didn't really get to focus on the more interesting back story of Sylia, or even the day-to-day antics of Nene and Linna. Linna had two episodes oriented around her, which pertained to her friend with the mafia family, while Nene managed to snag the last episode for herself, which showed her eternal good cheer was genuinely good spirits and not ditziness. Nene also got to put her computer skills to good use quite a bit, or she sometimes just acted like a lovable goof, which put her screen time and character development a few notches above poor Linna, who was often thrust into the background with only her greed and her tendency to eat up boyfriends to get her any attention. Don't get me wrong, I like it and I love the overall concept of it all, but it did irk me a little bit. Also this is one of those runner-ups for "worst English voice dubbing of all time" features, meaning you'd better stick to the Japanese. Some of the voices were okay (some really did match their characters personas) but others were just flat and passionless or, in the case of Priss, really overacted.

Well, Tokyo 2040 comes along and pretty much tosses all that out the window. Set a few years ahead, the story here is that after earthquakes shattered Tokyo, GENOM's boomers rebuilt the city into a big old paradise, except the boomers still have a tendency to fly off the handle, which prompts the AD Police to be formed followed by the Knight Sabers being formed. So the overall story is the same, but the backstories of the characters and the look and attitudes of the characters have changed a lot.

1) Originally Sylia had short purplish black hair and brown eyes, was usually dressed like a stern, proper business woman and was distant from others. 2040 Sylia has more of a super-model look to her, dressing more provocatively and possessing white hair and blue eyes that seem to change color depending on the light (runs the gamut from blue to purple to silver and eyes occasionally looking purple or gray), and also 2040 Sylia is more of an emotionally unstable woman who flies off the handle when she's not in public, and possibly keeps even more secrets than before. Sylia also doesn't take as much risk on the battlefield, as she is more of a stay-in-the-mobile-pit type here, but she does do battle when she has to.

2) Originally Priss was a short woman with an Afro and a really bad temper, always picking fights with people who offended her, always biting off more than she could chew, etc. 2040 Priss, however, has gone the way of the Clint Eastwood loner - very cold, very stoic and emotionally distant (more like the original Sylia you might say), so she's not really attached to anyone. Also her hair is more stingry and cat-like (a big improvement) and she is clad in leather like Trinity from "The Matrix" (although much less annoying than before, unfortunately, the writers screw her in the end when revealing her reasons for hating the ADP).

3) Originally Linna had this big black hair going for her, but now her hair is shorter, browner, and, well, more 90s like. 2040 Linna is also an office lady who has bad luck with being sexually harrassed. As if to apologize for the way she was treated by the OAV writers, the 2040 writers actually dedicated the first 6 episodes to Linna, writing her as a country girl new to the city but determined to meet the Knight Sabers and win a spot with them, which she eventually does.

4) Originally a short red haired girl who was often the victim of ridicule and ate a lot of candy, Nene is now a short blonde haired girl who likes to tease and take pot shots at ADP detective Leon McNichol (revenge for him toying with her in the OAV?) and other characters, even her surrogate big sister Linna and Mackey, Sylia's "brother", whom she becomes infatuated with. Cockey and arrogant, she still eats a lot of candy and is a master hacker, but she is eventually deflated and grows beyond her comic relief status.

5) Nigel Kirkland is a new character, a tall, stoic, ruggedly handsome man with long black hair (he looks like Adrian Paul from TV's Highlander), he replaces Dr. Raven from the old series and now serves as the man who gives maitenance to Sylia's hard suits. Nigel is also Sylia's lover, but you wouldn't know it by his demeanor. He's kind of the father/big brother/mentor figure to Mackey.

6) Leon and Daley are back, but of course differently. The original Leon was a tall pretty boy built like a baseball player with slicked back brown hair, blue eyes, a black leather jacket, tight blue jeans, and always carrying a revolver that could magically pack more whallop than a howitzer if necessary; while he wasn't really a bad guy deep down, he was kind of a jerk, but he served mostly as comic relief, as he tried to pursue Priss romantically (exactly what he saw in her is a mystery) but occasionally he and Daley served as information guides to important plot points. Also the original Daley was a fairly muscular red head who dressed in pink/purple suits as he was a flamboyantly homosexual character who was always hitting on Leon when not providing important information. In 2040, Leon is no longer a pretty boy but more your typical rugged tough guy type, with spiked black hair, brown eyes, tall and sporting big muscles, a brown leather jacket and blue dockers (he actually looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger a little bit, or maybe a pumped up Colin Farrell, or Hugh Jackman), and he still carries a revolver, a BIG one, but it's not as powerful as before. Although 2040 Leon still has a bit of an attitude probelm (especially in approaching Priss), he's not nearly as much of a jerk as he was in the old series, but he does have a bad temper and he is easily annoyed by Nene and Daley (also he drinks way too much coffee). Oh, and Leon is still after Priss, but he has a lot more luck this time around. Daley, meanwhile, is now a taller (but not as tall as Leon) more pretty boyish looking guy with red rimmed glasses, a white suit, green eyes, and light brown hair, and he carries a big machine gun (he actually looks like James Marsden from the X-Men films); Daley is a lot smarter and more assertive in 2040 than the OAV and, although it's not completely clear, his homosexual tendencies have been almost totally disappeared, save a moment of what appears to be jealousy when he hears about Leon inquiring about Priss's e-mail.

7) Brian J. Mason (what does that "J" stand for?) is back, and so is Quincy, but Mason is much more the main villain here, with Quincy as co-villain, as he is no longer a towering figure of terror but a vegetable with a bunch of batteries and wires plugged into him. Mason now sports slicked back brown hair instead of black hair as he did in the OAV (he actually looks like OAV Leon in a suit) and he is very much from the Alan Rickman school of villains.

8) Though a pervert in the first series, Mackey is no longer a pervert in 2040. Of course, there are lots of things different about Mackey in 2040, but they won't be revealed here.

9) Sylia now has a companion, an Alfred-the-butler type named Henderson, who worries about her and the gang.

10) In the original series, boomers were like the Replicants in "Blade Runner", armed with their own thoughts and feelings and ambitions, but in 2040, they're more of the dumb-monsters-on-the-rampage type. Most of the time they're just big robots who do whatever they're programmed to do (heavy labor, combat, clean up, etc) and they have this tendency to "go rogue", which means try to evolve and become a monster in the process.

What does stay the same is the theme of humanity VS technology (do machines have souls?). Sadly, this series, though well animated and well written, only runs 26 episodes, so it moves by faster than one might like, especially those of us who are used to more than one season of our most beloved characters, and unfortunately it still ends on a cliff hanger with unresolved storyline bits (which I will not discuss here. What saves this show and makes it what it is, however, is the characters, a colorful cast of screwballs they are, ranging from stoic loners, psycho women, genocidal mad men, rough neck cops, sardonic intellectuals, wise old sages, and loveable innocents, much more diverse than before and with a lot more to play off of, they're enough to make you wish this show had gone longer.

It's not great, but it's a good watch. Also the English dub (by ADV) is quite good, though not without a few flat spots, but certainly better than the dub on the original.

4 out of 5 stars The remake is pretty good.......2006-06-18

The original Bubblegum Crisis came out in 1985 and spawned a very popular following on both sides of the pacific. It was also one of the earliest anime titles to get a video release in the states. The animation has a much cleaner look and incredibly vivid color but, it's not as fluid as the original OAVs, it really shouldn't be no problem. The Boomers appear more like zombies or monsters when they go nuts in this show.

4 out of 5 stars A great remake of the original Bubblegum Crisis anime.......2005-05-15

This is a great remake of the original Bubblegum Crisis anime classic, although some otaku's still consider the original the best.

There is a newer DVD edition of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 which has improved video and 5.1 English audio. It actually comes in 3 separate volumes under the "Essential Anime Collection" line. Each volume contain 2 discs at a much cheaper price.

4 out of 5 stars The sequel to the Bubblegum Crisis.......2004-12-13

Synopsis:
The much talked about remake of the classic Bubblegum Crisis OAV series. The year is 2040, the place Mega-Tokyo. Armed with highly advanced suits of powered armor, a group of young female vigilantes fights a shadow war against the largest mega-corporation in Japan, GENOM, and their army of mad "Boomers": androids built to replace humans in menial labor jobs, but which have an annoying tendency to run rampant.

[Note: Check out my review on the Bubblegum Crisis Boxset]

Review: Compared to the original OAV (Bubblegum Crisis), I find the characters much more endearing and believable. Though some may not like the new character designs. For those that favor the original better...shame! The way the plot has been reworked makes a lot more sense, while the character designs may have changed, the mecha designs are just like the original, only more smoothly animated and spiced up with CG effects. I'm not complaining.

Leaving the original, the story takes a step back and describes how the Knight Sabers were originally formed, rather than dumping the viewer right into the middle of an ongoing story. Lots of detail went into humanizing the various cast members. From Nene's snack habits, to Priss's icy mercenary attitude, to Linna trying on her suit for the first time...the characters improve on characterization.

The music is mostly hard rock and pop. The opening and ending themes are both well done. At first, I thought the ending theme was stupid from not really hearing any music. The beginning of the end theme is a bit weird, but turns out rather well.

The end of the series has come, though there may be more to come. I doubt. The ending was a bit unatural to its condition. The love craves and future clean-up were not present when needed.

In all, this is a fitting tribute to the original Bubblegum Crisis. In fact, in terms of character development and action it may have even improved upon the original in some respects. The typically Japanese open ending to the series may disappoint fans who like more closure to their anime, but aside from that, BGC 2040 is a solid, action-packed, sci-fi anime. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad, Not great........2004-03-30

As a remake of the original series it isn't bad but not great either, the characters just don't have the depth the originals did, that and they are done quite a bit different. As a big series you'd figure there would be ALOT of in depth character development, nope. It has a bit but not as much as could have been. Don't be discouraged from buying this series as I am NOT bashing it. Now on to what makes it worth the money, The show is fun and a fun watch, however if youre a fan of the original Bubblegum crisis/crash you might be disapointed, if trying it new you'll have fun with it. It has good action and fun dialogue that can be downright silly at times as the eyes get huge and a giant teardrop appears..what the?!??
The good begins on disc 2 as disc 1 doesnt really take off, discs 2,3 and 4 are the best and the final disc has a decent ending but just not a jaw dropping one. It's a fun series packaged nicely in one giant box that holds all 6 discs. Give it a try if a true fan of BGC and if wanting to try something fun and new. I give it 4 stars instead of 5. With more character development it could have been a GREAT series instead of just a "good" one.

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!.......2007-06-06

This is and will always be one of my first animes that I sank my teeth into along with others of the time (Gunbuster, Robotech/Macross, Tank Police etc. I bought the first release many many years ago that just had cd jewel cases with no pictures and a large clunky box. This show is Excellent and shows it's fanfare with all of the hints in the show (boomers look like terminators, The band is named "The Replicants" along with two main characters named "Priss" and "Leon" and in the film Blade Runner both "Priss" and "Leon" in the film were replicants. There is even some Robocop hints here and there) but the show really nailed the whole 80s/cyberpunk genre and even with all of the influences still made a darn good show! It's too bad more shows don't have this flair that this original series did. The show is broken into 8 episodes but don't let it fool you into thinking you are being ripped off as each episode is fairly long and has it's own story that still ties into the rest of the episodes.

As for the production of this version, it is definitely remastered with a noticable color difference from the original incarnation. The colors are bright and crisp and the picture is sharp and clear with minimal grain in a few spots. The only gripe I have is that the picture jumps in parts of the show, I believe this has to do with the original film itself but Evangelion had this same issue but it was fixed for the last release and I am wondering why this wasn't fixed for this (expensive) release. Other than that the show is superb looking! The sound is good and the packaging is decent, each disc (four in all) have a nice picture of the girls/girl on one along with the info on the back for each episode and videos. The box is a bit clunky still and could have used a nicer slim-lite box etc with maybe a booklet on the history of the show etc but you can't have it all sometimes. Animeigo is "ok" but still don't usually hit the mark with their releases. It's too bad ADV or someone else doesn't own this series. Small gripes aside this is a MUST own for any fan of the show!

5 out of 5 stars Classic anime!.......2007-05-13

The Bubblegum Crisis anime is a classic OVA series and needs to be a part of any fan of either cyberpunk or Japanese animation. Despite the animation for the first three episodes dating from the late 1980s the storylines remain interesting and eminently watchable. A great anime series for your friends to watch if they are over 16 and have never watched anime before or think it is just what is found on Cartoon Network.

4 out of 5 stars Good stuff.......2006-08-27

In a "Blade Runner" like future, four vigilante women - the Knight Sabers - assist the AD Police in fighting boomers, living machines not unlike the Replicants from "Blade Runner". The Knight Saber ring leader is Sylia Stingray, a rich, mysterious brunette who is the daughter of the man who created the boomers and whom might actually be a boomer herself. The others include rebellious biker girl Priss Asagiri, aerobics instructor Linna Yamazki and ADP computer hacker Nene. Other characters include ADP man Leon McNichol, a Brad Pitt like pretty boy with high ideals and a jerky attitude as well as a thing for Priss and with Leon is his hilarious partner Daley Wong. Oh and Sylia has a pervert whiz kid for a brother by name of Mackey. The villains include Quincy, chairman of GENOM, the company that produces the boomers, his right hand man Brian J. Mason (killed off too soon) and an obnoxious boomer man named Largo.

A good series overall, but being dated is the least of its problems. Originally slated for 13 episodes, it was cut short at episode 8, leaving many series plot threads unresolved. A sequel series, Bubblegum Crash, was concocted to solve this problem but it didn't help. Also the characters are never as well developed as you would like them to be. The most interesting character, the Knight Saber ringleader Sylia, is never completely explored. Linna had potential, but her subplot involving a friend who was apart of a mafia family was never resolved and most of the time Linna was just ignored. Nene was cute and funny but only had one episode to call her own, the last one. Sadly, most of the series attention was centered on Priss, who somehow became the most popular character of the series, so much in fact that although she was originally suppose to die, a fan backlash saved her; I think this was due partly to the fact that she was voiced by a then popular Japanese singer. But Priss herself was not that interesting of a character: all her episodes basically revolve around her seeking revenge for a minor character friend that we the audience sometimes didn't even get to know in depth. Priss became repetitive and dull after a certain point. I could never quite figure out what Leon saw in her.

But the series itself is not inherently bad. Animation is still pretty good in most of the eps (excluding the first one, which is a bit herky jerky, and the last one, in which the characters are drawn much too thinly), was generally good natured, good humored, and it had an interesting theme on humanity VS technology.

Remade for TV as "Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040" in 1999. Hate to say it, but 2040 was superior in many ways, though not completely perfect in and of itself.

5 out of 5 stars Bubblegum Crisis, an Original Classic.......2006-01-18

The Bubblegum Crisis franchise in one of the strongest anime franchises out, with numerous spin-offs and a release of a new Bubblegum Crisis series, and there's no wondering why in my book. The characters, for there time, were original, the story was well-done and plotted excellently, the world in which the series was based was thoroughly thought out, and the music, though dated, works well with the anime.

In 2032-33, we get to meet the original four girls: Sylvia, Lena, Nene, and the ever popular Priss, as they battle Genom made Boomers from episode to episode in order to protect MegaTokyo. The first three episodes deals with the Knight Sabers battle with Brian Mason, the evil leader of Genom bent on destroying these four girls at all costs. The next episode gets away from the Genom story as the girls must fight a car infected with the Boomer virus, which is determined to destroy the Outriders, a biker gang. When Priss becomes a target, the Knight Sabers are forced to act. The fifth and six episodes gets back to the battle with Genom, and the Knight Sabers find themselves fighting some powerful new enemies: themselves, and the mysterious Largo. This is essentially the end of the series, yet two more movies follow that are almost entirely unrelated to the first six. In Double Vision, they must figure out a series of terrorist attacks against Boomer engineers. These attacks somehow involve Vision, an American singer. In Scoop Chase (my personal favorite) we follow Nene in her job as an AD Police officer while she watches over Lisa, a young girl who seems to idolize the Knight Sabers. That's when a new group of Boomers attack the AD Police headquarters and the Knight Sabers must act in order to save allies and friends from the ongoing Boomer threat.

What's great about this series is that it's actually a huge collection of short films. None of these episodes are less than a half-hour, and some are near to an hour or more. It makes it much more watchable, in the end, since there is never a "to be continued." You see one conflict resolve itself before moving onto the next, without ever truly escaping the core storyline.

This is a classic anime series that should be picked up by any person who truly wants to call themselves a hardcore fan. This is one of the founders of the cyberpunk genre and without this series, great anime like Akira may have never been. I recommend this to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Original anime classic.......2005-12-15

First, my review, then some corrections.

Short version, this is an exceptionally good (groundbreaking at the time) original series, paying homage to Blade Runner and cyberpunk as well as demonstrating the influence that a great soundtrack can have. Presented against more recent anime, it shows its age, but I still rate it a buy.

Corrections to other reviews: First off, Bubblegum Crisis was the first series to appear. Bubblegum Crash is a sequel attempted by a different production team, and it shows. There are jarring differences in some characters and the Crash plotline is confusing and weird. The AD Police series is also a spinoff, taking place before BGC and it has nothing to do with the Knight Sabers; it's quite dark and more adult in nature. The relationship to the original BGC and the 2040 is tenuous at best, limited mainly to character names and plot basics. 2040 is hardly a remake.

The series was originally slated to run to 12 episodes, and some plot elements were affected by popular responses to the series, but it was cancelled at eight episodes due (I believe) to cost of production, so yes, some plot elements were left unfinished. It's disappointing, but I think it's better in some ways than an unsatisfactorily rushed or poorly wrapped up ending. Nonetheless, the series stands as my favorite anime of all time and is highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars It was ok..........2007-02-10

This was decent anime. The music was somewhat cheesy and poor. Kudos on a cool villian, who somewhat redeemed the "mad boomers." The concept was cool, but I'm not a fan of the show over all.

4 out of 5 stars Starting from the middle.......2005-06-26

I am a beginner when it comes to mecha ANIME, and like many men I was drawn in by the chicks in slim and streamlined powersuits. Looking online for picture galleries quickly informed me that there were several different models of the hardsuits. In other words, newcomers to the series may be confused with what they get.

This collection begins the series with 3 of the Knight Sabers intact and Linna (sp?) just starts her involvement with them. The action is fun to watch, but it makes you wonder why (and how) only Priss and Nene combated boomers. I also noticed Sylia stayed 90% out of combat (and her beautiful hardsuit) in this collection. She's my favorite character, and it annoyed me to see so little of her.

The collection is filled with songs by Priss's vocal actress; and despite the DVDs filled with more than the average number of episodes, I wanted more - especially after the last episode on the 2nd disc. Fortunately, Amazon has the other two volumes.

If you were looking to see all four Knight Sabers in their hardsuits, look to the Perfect Collection. Otherwise, the sexy femme's will increase their appearances at a gradual rate. Definitely worth the sale price, though - getting this from an overseas vendor cost me twice the price and 3 months in shipping. Amazon is the way to go.

5 out of 5 stars bubblegum crisis tokyo 2040 vol 1.......2005-03-22

I had seen the original bubblegum crisis years ago and loved it. Then I caught the first episode of the new series and it totally blew me away. The characters were more refined and instead of loosley connected stories, there was an ongoing story that continuosly evolved. There was a little more realism too with ammo running out and the fact that they did'nt have endless energy to defeat any odds. I do wish sylia would have fought more, but you understand why she doesn't. All in all a superbly done anime.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the original........2005-03-17

As any good series nowadays, you start out with one of the main characters being introduced to the concept as a way to help the audience grasp what's going on. This series is no exception to that. It starts off following Linna around until she meets the Knight Sabers and becomes one of them. It is then that we realize how hard it is to be a Knight Saber and such.

It is several years after a massive earthquake, Boomers are created to help humans rebuild Tokyo. Eventually, the Boomers start going rogue and tearing things up, so the Knight Sabers have to step in and stop them and they do a better job than the AD Police, their rivals, do.

This anime is full of excellent battle scenes, very good animation, weird monsters (the rogue Boomers), and cool looking armor. This is a must have for anime collector. This particular collection is excellent because it's cheaper to buy all three volumes than it is to buy the boxset (in some places, like the Amazon marketplace) or the series seperately (which has six volumes) since one volume costs less than buying one volume and it has 9 episodes. ADV has has made a smart move by releasing the series like this and I applaud them.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun, even if you usually hate big robots........2005-02-10

I originally viewed this anime as a result of a friend's high praise of it. Sure, young women in power suits fighting evil cyborg monsters wouldn't usually be my thing. I've seen and enjoyed sillier things, however, and I do not regret giving this one a chance. The animation is quite good, the character development is believeable and at times amusing, and the setting is JUST futuristic enough not to bore fans of the sci fi genre. I can't even complain about the voice actors in the dubbed version, which is one of my biggest problems with some otherwise decent anime.

I should also mention that the power suits the women use actually periodically experience reasonable tehcnical difficulties, and not just when it's convenient to enhance the plot, although it does. Too often, in "big robot anime", nothing goes wrong with these things, ever; and they are used in situations where something more conventional would perhaps work better. If you are fighting renegade robots however, ehnancing your own movements and armoring yourself in slight mimicry of them might not be such a bad idea.

But perhaps the biggest selling point about this dvd is the sheer amount of content you recieve. This DVD includes nine episodes, compared to the three to five you usually get.

After 12 episodes of this female mecha adventure, the main plot finally begins to unfold amid a welter of revelations. Sylia continues her search for the Wiz Lab, the site where her father created the Boomer robots that perform the heavy labor in 21st-century Neo-Tokyo. But the Boomer Project was more significant and more sinister than the other characters realized. At its center was Sylia's father, who used members of his family for bio-technical experiments, like Dr. Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion. He created a creature so dangerous, the powerful Genom Corporation deliberately triggered the earthquake that destroyed much of Tokyo to imprison it: that was a less threatening scenario than allowing it to escape. Sylia's dogged efforts to seal off the ruined lab lead Mason, the icy vice president of Genom, to the site beneath the rebuilt city. He outmaneuvers the Knight Sabers, the A.D. Police, and Sylia's eerie brother Mackey, and releases Galatea the Sotai, an innocent-looking little girl who threatens the future of mankind with her powers. This edition of Bubblegum Crisis delivers the mecha action and empowered heroines that earned the series its following, although the story may feel very familiar to anime fans. 5 out of 5 stars Simply put: Wow.......2003-11-24

The earlier volumes were good; this one's great.

The story begins to open up as we are hit with mysteries, dangers, and revelations. From the word go I was glued to the television, itching for the answers to my questions. I swear, I thought the suspense was going to kill me.

This volume doesn't have as much action as the earlier volumes, but it doesn't need it. There's excellent drama here. I especially like how Nene's place seems reversed; in the last volume, Nene was looked down upon, but here, she's the one who becomes disgusted and disappointed. It's an interesting reversal of roles.

To sum up, this volume is fantastic. Careful though; you'd better buy volumes 5 and 6 while you're at it, or you'll be left hanging, desperate to find out what happens next. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Bubblegum Crisis fans must have this!!!.......2001-07-16

If you have seen the original Bubblebum this is 10 years later and the gang has some new toys. The 2040 series is more in-depth into the creation of the boomers and the Knight Sabers. If you thought Priss hated Boomers before check this one out. If you are a first time Bubblegummer all the DVDs are great seperate but all tie together for a blast and crash filled show that will make you rush for the next episode. In 3 words "GET IT NOW"

5 out of 5 stars The begining of the end........2001-06-17

This is where the series gets good. You have to see the previous episodes to really appretiate the events that unfold here. The previous episodes were seemingly just that. Episodes. However in the main stories, they were always giving bits and pieces to the puzzle of the main agenda of the story arc. If you've seen the other series before this part, and are wondering if this is worth the buy...then wonder no longer. This is truely where the story, and the action gets good.

5 out of 5 stars A strong show gets even stronger.......2001-02-24

This is the fourth BGC 2040 DVD, containing episodes 13 through 16. Where the previous episodes were largely individual and episodic (with a glimpse here and there of the larger world), this volume expands the focus and starts to reveal what's going on. The main plot arc, somewhat buried, now clearly predominates. Sylia's mood swings, Mackey's reason for returning to Sylia's life, the origin of the hardsuits, and Mason's obsession with the buried work of Sylia's father--all of these are explained.

What's left, you might ask, since there are ten more episodes? Without spoiling anything, as good as this collection is--and continuing the pattern, it's the best so far--the pieces are only now in place for the real conflict. Even if you just casually liked the show up to this point, you will not want to wait for the conclusion. Additionally, on a technical level, the show is much slicker: the animation gets better with later episodes (usually the opposite is true), and those rather cheesy 3D computer graphics effects are gone or nearly so. It's a rare show that consistently improves, as BGC 2040 does. The first disc left me a doubter, but having continued through this point, BGC 2040 is one of my favorites.

While rogue Boomer robots under the telepathic command of Galatea the Sotai ravage 21st-century Neo-Tokyo, romance unexpectedly flowers for the members of the all-female vigilante posse, the Knight Sabers. Sylia rediscovers her affection for the mechanic Nigel, who worked with her father to create the Boomers; tough-as-press-on-nails Priss accepts the advances of hard-bitten cop Leon; Mackie continues his pursuit of ditsy computer wizard Nene. (Linna, the newest member of the crew, hasn't met anyone yet, but there are several potential candidates on hand.) Mason, the sinister vice president of the Genom Corporation, freed the mysterious Galatea to help the Boomers reach the next stage of their evolution and supplant humanity, but she proves difficult to control. The robot Boomers begin as standard-issue zombies with glowing eyes but quickly mutate into bizarre forms, ranging from a giant fanged monster to a writhing mass of tentacles large enough to engulf a skyscraper. When they infiltrate Genom's massive system of power cables, they metamorphose into a enormous creature that is half serpent, half lamprey. There are plenty of gun battles, martial arts moves, and scenes of the characters riding to each other's rescue, but the storytelling is less interesting than the visuals and the plot borrows a little too heavily from Akira and other series. "Suggested 15 Up" for violence, profanity and brief nudity; alcohol and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars All Things Fall Apart.......2005-04-09

Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 (2000): Vol. 5: Blood & Steel is the next to last DVD in the cyberpunk anime series about a team of four female vigilantes in cool hardsuits, fighting robots gone mad in the Tokyo of the near future. Vol. 5 has lots of playing time, with five episodes. The episodes are:

Episode 17: Moving Waves - The Boomer invasion becomes more than attacks by individual robots. With Galatea now awake and communicating with them, the boomers are a seemingly unstoppable wave of mecha, fusing with any machine they encounter. Their target: AD Police Headquarters. Nene, the chief, and a low level engineer are trapped inside. With communications to the outside world cut off, and the television media sending misinformation about the situation, what will happen to our heroes?

Episode 18: We Built This City - Finally getting a brief signal out to their comrades Leon and Daley, who have to figure out what is really going on with only the TV News pretending everything is fine, Nene and the tiny group of humans continues to run from the encroaching boomer wave. The Knight Sabers, still raw from their recent fight with Sylia, want to help too.

Episode 19: Are You Experienced? - The TV news can no longer pretend everything is sunny in Tokyo. Leon and the remaining officers in Tokyo come together to try to fight the Dragon Line, Genom's massive underground power cables, which have come to life. Since the Boomers no longer need a core to function, all previous weaponry is useless. Even the Knight Sabers' hardsuits need remodeling.

Episode 20: One of These Nights - Linna, Priss, Sylia, and Nene have finally overcome their disagreements and are reunited in the new hardsuits. But the massive Dragon Line looms over a now deserted Tokyo, the citizens having fled for their lives. Only Leon and Sylia's group remain, Sylia confident she is safe in her heavily fortified building headquarters. How can they defeat the Dragon Line when it is seeking to fuse with their hardsuits?

Episode 21: Over the Edge - Romantic tensions between Sylia and Nigel, Priss and Leon come to a head as they all face an uncertain future in the eerie urban landscape that was Tokyo. International armies are massing in Japan.

The animation in this series is extraordinary. The backdrops of an empty Tokyo are eerily fascinating.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2003-03-08

This part of the six DVD is well done. The story takes on a more "OH my god! The world is in Peril!" theme. It kept me on th edge of my seat just waiting for the next scene.

5 out of 5 stars best one yet.......2001-10-09

I think this was way the best becouse it had the mast fighting in it and the story focust on nene

4 out of 5 stars It gets better and better!.......2001-07-04

This series continues to get better and better and with the fifth DVD installment, the series focuses on relationships and betrayal.

This DVD features five episodes (episodes 17-21) and do things get interesting. With the first few episodes continuing where it was last left off, Nene stuck in the AD Police HQ with a few of her bosses trying to fend off boomers, you have the Galatea and Mason storylines. This is where the biggest difference between the old series and this series is evident. Although Mason is a baddie, the true baddie is Galatea. Also, the secret is pretty much revealed who the Knightsabers are.

People might be upset that the these episodes somewhat end the storyline for a few of our male bad guys but the concentration is on Galatea. I'm enjoying the progression of these episodes and I enjoyed this DVD.

As for the DVD itself, the menu is pretty cool and the sound is great for a TV series. Colors are beautiful in terms of video quality. As for special features, as before....hardly anything. Character design sketches for each character. Not much.

All in all, I'm used to anime DVD's having squat in terms of special features and another thing, I know there are previews for AD vision series, but I guess I'm not finding them anywhere on the series DVD's.

All in all, a must have for BGC 2040 fans. A great series!

    4 out of 5 stars A good disc, but a little of a dropoff.......2001-05-26

This fifth disc (of six total) is the most disappointing--but only because the previous discs were so good. The chief problem is that it seems drawn out. There's a lot of fighting, but it doesn't really go anywhere. The creators may simply have moved too quickly toward the climax in earlier episodes, and realized they still had quite a few to go. A second problem is the new hardsuits: they're clearly designed to be sexy above all else (they just *try* too hard to be sexy), and they lack the cleaner, simpler look of the originals.

That said, this is still a good disc, with important plot points revealed. In particular, we see why Mason wanted to free Galatea, and how she and the boomers operate. The artwork remains good (even if I don't like the hardsuit design), and there are some nice visual effects and interesting boomer designs. Even if it doesn't have all of the magic of some of the earlier discs, you'll still enjoy these episodes if you like BGC 2040. These are not BGC 2040's finest episodes, but they are an integral part of a good show, and they shouldn't be missed.

Sylia continues to direct the battles that Knight Sabers Linna, Priss, and Nene wage against the increasing numbers of Boomers (robots) that go berserk. The AD Police should destroy the rogue machines, but they're hopelessly inept. In flashbacks, the viewer learns that Sylia's father created the Boomers and may have used her tissue in his experiments. Her younger brother Mackie arrives unexpectedly from wherever he'd been staying. His mechanical aptitude enables him to bond with Nigel, the gruff technician who maintains the Knight Sabers' armor suits and repairs Priss's motorcycle. Soon Mackie is helping the Knight Sabers, despite Sylia's initial objections. The main story line suffers from weird incongruities. Quincy Rosenkreutz, the evil president of Genom, wants everyone to love his Boomers, even the Knight Sabers. Yet Rosenkreutz has his staff working on a way to make the Boomers "go rogue" on command. Rosenkreutz's lieutenant Brian Mason is heading the Showhamm Project, an orbital system that would give Genom control of much of the world's power supply. But Mason, who is carrying on a kinky affair with a Boomer, is an unlikely candidate for such an important job. There are also some strange differences between the dubbed dialogue and the subtitles. Episodes: 5. "Rough and Ready," 6. "Get It On," 7. "Look at Yourself," 8. "Fireball." Not rated; suitable for ages 13 and up for violence, profanity, brief nudity, and sexual situations. --Charles Solomon

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Second volume not as good as the first.......2004-09-03

Volume two of Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 has episodes five through eight. The first two episodes give viewers a longer look into the strange old man hooked up to wires who is behind some kind of a strange conspiracy at the Genom corporation. He has a young assistant who is sexually obsessed with a red-headed Boomer (humanoid servant robot). The old man is hatching a plot that may or may not involve crooked agents of the AD Tokyo Police. He wants to capture the Knight Sabres and have dinner with them and "get them to love Boomers."

This portion of this plot is confusing, but the action is great. Linna has been almost fully accepted as a member of the team, (seems awfully fast) and it is now Nene who is seeking to prove herself to Priss. An element of mystery is added with flashbacks to Sylia's traumatic childhood (she is such a beautiful little girl!) when a strange boy arrives saying he is her younger brother. Sylia welcomes him without hesitation, even though her faithful butler does not know the boy. Mackey does indeed resemble Sylia.

We see Sylia is pretty mentally unstable. Mackey idolizes Nigel. Boomers go mad, including one that meshed with its operator when he died in an accident. The boomer comes looking for his unfaithful wife. Romantic triangles start to develop. Leon likes Priss. Priss likes Nigel. Sylia likes Nigel.

    4 out of 5 stars Interesting........2004-07-22

The second installment of the bubblegum crisis series cranks up the heat. First up Genom the evil corporation uses the A.D police to try to capture the Knight Sabers, when Priss, Lina and Nene get trapped Sylia is forced to suit up to rescue her allies. Also a mysterious young boy named Mackey shows up, Sylia claims its her brother but she's obviously lying. Meanwhile Leon tries to flirt with Priss and just comes off as smarmy. Also Priss resents Mackys friendship with Nigel. I like the fact that the characters aren't a bunch of goody two shoes, in particular Sylia she has good intentions but she has an explosive temper and can be very moody, but it's obvious she's a good person. Personally i'm okay with watching the episodes in their english versions, except for FIREBALL which focuses a lot on Priss and her horrible nonsensical singing, so put in the ear plugs!! The DvD has 4 great action packed episodes which is very reasonable. EP

4 out of 5 stars The characters get deeper as the action gets more frantic.......2003-11-19

After a bit of a slow start, the series warms up in these episodes. We're delivered another four episodes, and while still not anything special, the series remains enjoyable, with a nice element of mystery.

First up we have a great two-parter in which the Knight Sabers are lured into a trap involving the AD Police and one massive Boomer. This exciting pair of episodes sees the onscreen debut of Sylia's hardsuit. The other two episodes are short rogue boomer encounters - it's fairly episodic.

Despite being episodic, there's little threads running through each episode that hint at a larger plot. For instance, Sylia's brother Mackey arrives, and while he's perfectly normal at first glance, the show somehow makes things seem really awkward, giving the viewer the feeling that there's something here they're not being told. This is something this show does excellently.

At this point in the series, I wasn't completely hooked, but all the little hints and mysteries urged me to buy the next volume to investigate. A good set of episodes in a promising series.

4 out of 5 stars It grows on you..........2001-08-09

This series is starting to grow on me. I gave the first disc three stars, but this one gets four.

Why? The characters have started to develop, and they're deeper than they originally appear.

For example, we start to get hints of Sylia's past, and witness some increasingly severe mood swings from her, for reasons that are as yet unclear. (Sylia also wears her hardsuit for the first time in the series.) The episodes also introduce Mackey, Sylia's younger brother. There are hints that Mackey is not what he appears, which adds to the intrigue. We also learn some interesting things about Mason, who is having an affair with a boomer, yet somehow seems to hate boomers.

As with the first disc, the video and sound quality are very good, and although the dub is mostly accurate, I can't seem to get into the English voices (especially Nene's). As with the first disc (and most anime for that matter), I recommend watching it in Japanese (with subtitles if you need them) first.

In summary, if you hated the first disc, you won't like this one any better; if you thought the first disc was "ok" (like me) this disc may get you interested in the rest of the series. (If you loved the first volume, why are you reading this? Just buy it already!)

5 out of 5 stars The characters grow on you the more you watch!.......2001-02-11

In my review on Volume 1: Genesis, I noted that I was disappointed with the way the re-make portrayed the characters as compared with the original. However, I must say that Volume 2: Crusade, is MUCH BETTER because the characters are beginning to have similar traits as their original counterparts. I'm also very pleased that they brought Mackie back (Sylia's brother), although he hasn't shown his perverted side yet. The storyline is good and the soundtrack still rocks! All in all, I'm very happy with Crusade and I'm now looking forward to the remaining episodes. If you saw Genesis and are ready to give up on the girls, don't because the more you watch, the more they start to grow on you! BUBBLEGUM CRISIS IS BACK!

Nene redeems herself in a two-part adventure that pits the Knight Sabers, the AD Police, and Genom agents against a gargantuan blue monster that eats robot Boomers. Hacking into an ancient database, Nene finds the creature's only weak point and learns that it emerged from a biotechnical lab that was buried in the earthquake that destroyed much of the original Tokyo. Family histories come to the fore in episodes 11 and 12. Linna returns to her parents' home in the country and meets a handsome candidate for her hand. The lure of the Knight Sabers proves stronger, and she returns to Tokyo. Mason, the sinister vice president of Genom, searches for the Wiz Lab, where Sylia's father created the Boomers. He attempts to buy the assistance of Nigel, the Knight Sabers' taciturn mechanic, who worked in the lab years ago. Sylia is terrified that her father's lab may not have been destroyed in the great quake. Concerned about the nascent affection she and Mackie feel, Nene searches the Stingray family files and discovers that Mackie's appearance hasn't changed in 10 years. Episodes: 9. "My Nation Underground," 10. "Woke Up with a Monster," 11. "Sheer Heart Attack," 12. "Made in Japan." Not rated; suitable for ages 13 and up for violence, profanity, and sexual situations. --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars Tension Builds for the Knight Sabers .......2004-12-23

Volume Three is a distinct improvement over volume two. "Leviathans" has more action, more plot progression, and more character development. Some secrets are revealed, one about Nigel and one about Mackey; but I won't spoil them. Romantic tension builds between Nene and Mackey. It's cute, you know? I hope it can work out for them! I will not forgive the series creators if they just let Nene and Mackey's interest in each other drop.

Nene is getting on Priss' nerves because Nene is being reckless during battles. Priss even asks Sylia to let Nene go! Wow, that is gall. You will have to watch to see what happens. In a more introspective moment, Lina returns to her hometown in the country, where she has an arranged date with a surprisingly handsome and understanding young man. Again, I hope to see more of these two together.

Genom is messing with both military and bio-mechanics in this volume. There is a huge, disturbing creature eating Boomers that do work deep underground. And a huge military Boomer wreaks havoc in the city. With the appearances of these two Leviathans, Leon and his partner Daley begin to suspect something is up with Genom - and they take investigative steps. Will discovery of the Knight Sabers' identities be far behind?

This DVD has four episodes, #9-12. They are:
    9. My Nation Underground
    10. Woke Up With a Monster
    11. Sheer Heart Attack
    12. Made in Japan

As far as extras, there are none. It is disappointing to see that there are only three character profiles in the "extras."

5 out of 5 stars Character development = Yay :D.......2003-11-20

This third installment is easily my favorite so far. Finally, we are delivered the thing that makes a good series - character development.

There's plenty of it, too. Not to mention plenty of action. The main characters we explore here are Nene and Linna. Nene's place on the team has been questioned before, but now it gets serious as Nene faces being kicked out of the Knight Sabers. This excellent two-parter left me feeling extremely satisfied - it's about time Nene was in the spotlight.

The other two episodes are another two-parter, this time about Linna as she visits her family and must make an important choice. While I find Linna kinda boring, I still enjoyed these episodes, because we finally learn more about her. The military boomer fight was pretty good, too.

The show gets deeper as its characters get deeper and its mysteries get more intruiging. This volume was the hook for me; I NEEDED the next volume. Excellent and very addictive.

4 out of 5 stars Fun but Lacking.......2002-05-07

Pretty cool, the world could use some more cyber punk epics like this one. The english dub's pretty good but I recommend listening to it in japanese at least once later on, it's just better that way man!

My sole complaint for the series is the lack of action. The fight scene on the first disc "Genesis" kicks extreme robotic keester, but it never follows up with more. Not to the same degree anyway. This would be everyone's favorite dvd set if they had just made the fight scenes a little more interesting.

It's a fun series anyway, with likeable characters and an exciting concept... though I wonder if the original is better...? (This is a remake of an older, eight episode series named Bubblegum Crisis)

5 out of 5 stars The Interesting part of the series (CONTAINS SPOILERS).......2001-07-01

This DVD (of the series) is probably the best one (which I've seen). ++++WARNING SPOILER++++ It all starts when a monster has appeared in the 28th ward of Megalo City. This monster was a experiment from Bioscape Facilities, and now Voomers have seem to disappear. Meanwhile after the incident with the monster, Linna visits her parents in the country-side. Though at the same time her parents planned a set-up to get married. Priss eventually also is fighting a Giant Voomer by herself, Nene is on first shift at work, and Sylia can't come through to the incident where Priss is since the AD Police will not allow her. This DVD leaves you hanging off the seat. Enjoy the DVD if you get to buy it!

    1 out of 5 stars Boring.......2001-06-14

I can't hardly stand this dvd for one simple reason...it is boring. I thought that the animation and concept were average, and the only thing the characters seem to do is talk. When you finally do get to any action scenes, they look like something out of a bad Godzilla movie. The only good thing I can say about this dvd is that the girlies are cute. This could have been so much better if ADV had tried harder.

As the adventures of the female vigilante posse the Knight Sabers conclude, director Hiroko Hiyashi has too little story to fill too much time, and the last five episodes feel padded. In "Hydra," the increasingly powerful and insane Galatea somehow "merges her consciousness" with the skyscraper of the Genom Company, transforming it into a likeness of herself and launching it into space. Her objective is the Showhamm Project, a network of solar energy-collecting satellites: controlling them will enable her to spread madness among Boomer robots throughout world and make herself the master of mankind. Sylia, from whose tissue Galatea was created and who has sworn to destroy her, withdraws from the conflict, leaving Nene, Linna, and Priss to save the planet. The filmmakers try for an Evangelion-style metaphysical ending. The Knight Sabers suddenly develop the power to bond with the hard suits that give them superpowers, and instead of destroying Galatea, they cause her to merge with the universe; she rains onto the Earth as a shower of glittering particles. The Bubblegum Crisis series owes its popularity to no-holds-barred action and tough, capable female characters, not theological/philosophical speculations. "Suggested 15 Up" for violence, profanity, and nudity; alcohol and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars Knights In Spaaaaaace.......2005-06-10

Like all good series, Bubblegum Crisis 2040 must come to an end. The final DVD is packed with five action-packed episodes. Galatea morphs with the Genom Tower and takes off into space. The Knight Sabers must find a way to follow her. But how can they do that in a deserted Tokyo taken over by Boomers? Even if they can get to space, how can they hope to defeat a machine queen who speaks machine language and has declared herself God? Especially considering the Knight Sabers hardsuits are really boomers themselves . . .

Aside from Galatea giving her shape to the tower top (how corny is that?), the last volume is as philosophical and character-driven as it is sci-fi action. Lots of thoughtful dialouge. I highly recommend this DVD as well as the entire series.

Sylia Stingray is my hero. If I ever cosplay, I want to be her.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the original.......2002-06-21

I will not review the plot here as there are plenty of other places to get that info. I just want to say that I thought this version of Bubblegum Crisis and the Knight Sabers was better than the original series. I know there are plenty of purists that will argue with me on this and the orignal series was the anime that got me interested in anime. Still this series has a much better and more consistant storyline than the original and, or course, has more time in which to develop the story.
The ending of the series, which this DVD is about, is more philosophical than most but I found that refreshing. It was more of a conclusion than the original series.
I do wish the publishers had added more interesting information in the extra features, though. The character profiles were OK but I have come to expect so much more on DVD.

4 out of 5 stars KINDA LOST ME!!!!.......2002-05-31

After the turn to evangelion type technology which was a good take on the whole "remake" thing, the two shows are completely different (the 1987bgc and the 1996bgc). After vol.4 the show became a totally alternative take on the story.Boomers had their side of the story told in Galatea's prologue to ep.25, which was indeed a smart move. Giving Motoslave a part did look good even though unexpected when the "kill'em all" Priss actually asked for it's help very nicely.
But when the philosofy started i lost it!!!
Why did Galatea stop when she was winning,i mean if the only thing she needed was a kind word and a speech about "one making their own destiny" then they should have just done that from the beginning not start chasing each other like resident evil.
She lost too fast too easy with too many unanswewred questions like:
1)How did the Knight sabers make it home after they landed on earth(i mean they were naked and in deserted areas)?
2)Why didn't Priss just kick Galatea's [behind] with the giant Eva like boomer?
3)Does Priss have the healing time of X-men's Wolverine or is she even faster, she had been pierced by the Hardsuit and got kicked around on the rubble AND had no air to breathe(Motoslave had no air supply).
And finally did Tokyo survive all of this.

4 out of 5 stars Better ending than EVA.......2002-05-03

Though that isn't hard when you think about it, but the end is good. I was hoping for a little more action, but I think budget was starting to nag on them quite a bit. More of the Motoslave would have been nice, then again, as I said before, more action would have been nice.

Overall, the end is a bit silly, not that I'm complaining as this was a brilliant series all way through.

4 out of 5 stars hmm.. this could have been better........2001-08-17

Maybe i'm just being anal but, I found the end of this series some what lack luster. while the first three epsoides on the dvd are fine, the last two is where things( in my opinion) fall apart. epsidode 25 is very choppy with the knight sabers running around being very useless, and episode 26 seems incomplete. ....I want more. overall worth buying. Then again i'm bias, cause I'm in love with priss.
