As this ecological sci-fi adventure continues, both the plot and characterizations take several bizarre turns. Cindy, the red-haired telepath, teaches Juna to hear the thoughts and emotions of babies in the womb--including the one her unmarried sister Kaine is planning to abort. The old farmer-ecologist lectures Juna about the oneness of creation--including how insects that devour rice are somehow partly responsible for creating it. After listening to him, Juna begins to worry whether or not her food wants to be eaten. But she can't spend too much time on that problem, as a Raaja-demon is attacking the lab where Tokio's father works on illegal bioengineering projects. Juna takes the time to meddle in Tokio's distant relationship with his father before destroying the Raaja. When Cindy tells Juna, "You're so dense," she has a point. (Rated 13 and older: violence, nudity, grotesque imagery, tobacco use, sexual situations) --Charles Solomon
