Justy Ueki Tylor's transition from oblivious dim bulb to understated hero nears completion in this third collection of the original television series. When Harumi follows Raalgon commander Shia-Has's orders and infects the crew of the Soyokaze with an engineered virus, Tylor volunteers to become a hostage, rather than risk his friends' lives. It's a noble gesture, but one he wouldn't have thought to make in the first episodes. Although he's technically a prisoner of war aboard the gargantuan Raalgon flagship, Tylor escapes from his cell and fixes a midnight snack, which enables him to befriend the 16-year-old Empress Azalyn before she discovers who he is (and vice versa). Defying her evil minister Wang, Azalyn declares she'll keep Tylor alive--as a pet. Meanwhile the United Planets Space Force admirals are holding the crew of the Soyokaze in quarantine and plotting their demise. Yuriko, Harumi, and Yamamoto engineer a daring escape and set out to rescue the captain--a plan that leaves them caught between the warships of the Raalgon Empire and the UPSF. The Captain Tylor who infuriated his crew at the beginning of the series is now their beloved role model, and, like Akito in Nadesico, he's become the boy every girl in the crew has a crush on--a very unusual metamorphosis. Unrated; suitable for ages 12 and up: sexual humor, minor nudity, violence, alcohol use. --Charles Solomon

Description

This is the third in a set of made-for-videotape (OVA) releases made shortly after the "Irresponsible Captain Tylor" TV series concluded production, and is sometimes known by fans as "Tylor's War". They deal with events that occur about six months after the conclusion of the Raalgon war. Some time has elapsed since Tylor and the Soyokaze lead the UPSF forces to victory. The Raalgon war has cooled to a point where it can probably no longer considered to be one: in fact, many of the Soyokaze crew had been temporarily reassigned. Even Azalyn had taken time away from her duties as Empress. Although generally placid, some areas of the galaxy are certainly not: the Raalgon cabinet is in turmoil (at Wang's urging) and some odd things are happening on the frontier. There are the reports of ships being destroyed (including Yamamoto's first command) under questionable circumstances. It also seems to some that the UPSF is being pushed towards full scale war with the Raalgon Empire, but why would this be ... and who's doing the pushing? While there are people who don't believe what they're told, they're probably too few and too late. Unlike last time, the UPSF is fully prepared to take the offensive and has the weapons to win. The Raalgon empire understands this perfectly and is preparing to defend itself. It seems certain that what ended last time in a brilliant compromise will end this time with billions of people dead. If there's a solution to this it won 't come from Tylor, but perhaps from someone who has learned Tylor's lesson. It's likely that no one can solve this before the carnage starts though, and even if they did that no one would listen. As the Tylor series comes to an end with this volume, things are looking very grim! Still, if there's anyone who can save the day...

5 out of 5 stars This is where it ends!!!! In style!!.......2001-11-03

This is the last dvd, the story basicly picks up many of the lose ends from the other 2 other ova's. The story wraps up the story of Tylor in style and give the soyokase it's one final glory before a new type ship takes it's place.

But a new capitain now in command, Humanity has one final hope of destroying the Ralgon menace. But are all Ralgons to blame for this war or is a certain Priminister planing a coup d'état and hope the UPSF will destroy any political decident.

The only sad thing is the series ends in a major cliffhangner that begs for an end or at least a new story, Anyone for the irresponsible captain yamamoto anyone? (well we can hope)

5 out of 5 stars Simply one of the greatest anime out there!!!!.......2001-08-18

This is a great series, if your a fan of the Irresponsible Captain Tylor like I am you can't just over look this dvd!!!

The first thing this Dvd offers is a great presentation of individual episodes, with commentairies by the people who translated it. Plus it has a weblink ,an image gallery and so much more I don't want to spoil to much.

The dvd starts with deadly viruses, wich spy Harumi released onboard the soyokaze in a Ralgon plot to capture captain Tylor. When captured by Captain Dom of the Ralgon empire, Tylor meets the empress of the Ralgon empire Azaline when sneaking out of his prison cel disguised as a chef on the ship melva. Young Azaline fall in love with Tylor but she is forced by the prime minister to make an example of him by making Tylor into her pet Paco. At the same time the crew of the Soyokaze have commited treason in Order to save Tylor. Lt Yamamoto, dares a sneak attack on the Melva and the soyokaze prouves her luck one again as they get the captain back and Azaline.

Only downside, they offer it in Subtitles, english and spanish but there isn't a french version

2 out of 5 stars NOT the TV series.......2004-02-23

I absolutely loved the Captain Tylor TV series, and I couldn't wait to see the OVAs. Unfortunately, I was badly disappointed. There is a plot, but half of the series is taken up by side stories about various characters that do nothing to further the main action. Moreover, Captian Tylor just wasn't the same hilarious, happy-go-lucky guy I had come to know and love. Though he hides it well...to me, it almost seemed like the Irresponsible Captian had become...responsible.

Go ahead and watch the OVAs, if you want. They're not horrible. Just don't expect them to be like the TV series.

5 out of 5 stars Captain Tylor ...........its still GREAT!!!.......2003-05-17

I watched this a little worried. I had heard that the OVA collection was not as good as the original series. I am writing this to say that what I heard was totally WRONG!!!!
This series is just as good, its different but it's still Tylor at its finest.
The First DVD in the 3 DVD set is the same style and humor of the original series, it almost feels like "the lost episodes." After the first DVD the other two DVDs change to a different style of animation and the series changes a little but not for the worse.
The one problem that I kept hearing was that there was a more serious tone in this series. This is true for 4 of the side story episodes, but its serious for the very reason that Tylor is not really in them. He makes small cameos but other then that the stories focus on other members of the Soyokaze while they are on ground time. Without Tylor the other characters WOULD act this way. I appreciate the fact that I got to see them in action without Tylor because it made me appreciate them a little more, as well as the humor and liveliness Tylor brought to their lives and to the story.
I do not want to spoil anything detailing the story or the series so let me just say that this series is a wonderful series to watch, its a little shorter then the original but its still worth your time.

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2002-01-23

I think that this series is as good as the original box set. It is a little more complex plot structure but still presents the most attractive aspects of the original series. I cannot recommend this enough. A real winner.

4 out of 5 stars if you've seen the TV series, but not the OVA's.......2001-06-28

WARNING: This is not the Tylor that you’re used to. A lot of people in my anime club were lost by the OAV series. It’s focused heavily on the peripheral characters, the story does NOT go the direction that most of the TV series fans had hoped it would, and it is 100% serious. The clever/silly humor from the TV series was dropped for a serious story line in the OAV.

Now that you have this warning, you’re ready to approach these DVD’s. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen the fan-subs of the Tylor OAVs, but the DVD quality will be far better than the 10th generation tapes that I have. As I said above, the story is told in a different style from the TV series, but that doesn’t mean that it’s bad. Taken on their own, I really enjoy them. The story is good, and as always, the animation is improved from the TV series. I just thought I should write this brief warning because, as I said, many fans of the TV series were very disappointed when the characters’ motives and actions changed in the OVA.
