The Wanderers - El Hazard TV Series - The Adventure Begins (Vol. 1)

Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
The broadcast version of El Hazard repeats most of the characters and situations from the popular OAV series. The megalomaniacal Jinnai attacks Makoto's high-voltage science experiment, inadvertently transporting them, his sister Nanami, and hard-drinking history professor Mr. Fujisawa from Shinonome High to the parallel world of El Hazard. After meeting with Princess Rune of Roshtaria, Makoto and Fujisawa set off to find the powerful Priestesses of Water, Wind, and Fire, who may be able to help them return to Earth: Miz Mistal, Afura Mann, and Shayla-Shayla. Meanwhile, Jinnai has become virtual ruler of the insectlike Bugrom, and Nanami has established herself as a chef. Although many of the story elements survive from the earlier adventures, the tone is much sillier, with Jinnai's snide egotism played for laughs and the Bugrom representing less of a threat. Rated 13 Up: Risqué humor, brief nudity, minor profanity, violence, alcohol and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon
Description
Makoto always upstages Jinnai without trying, which exasperates the delusional rivalry that Jinnai has concocted within his own brain. However, when Jinnai attempts to sabotage Makoto's invention, the machine actually opens a dimensional rift throwing Makoto, Jinnai, and several others from their high school into a land of wonder and fantasy. Will they ever be able to find their way back home? Will they want to? The first seven year episodes of The Wanderers (El Hazard TV series) begin an alternative world version of the El Hazard series outside of the regular continuity. The 26-episode series will be collected onto four DVDs and packaged in clear cases with double-sided jackets, full-color, two-page inserts, and an art gallery of extras on every DVD!

Unlike most, I didn't go head over heels for this title...........2004-03-26
See, while the art was pretty, I just couldn't bring myself to like any of the characters. I can't explain it--there just wasn't any magic there. There were all just standing around, trying to decide what to do, rather than taking any form of action. Some of their voices annoyed me as well.
All in all, I recommend that everyone watch this at least once. Maybe you'll like it better than I did.
Excellent, worth watching.......2002-03-21
