Training continues for 16-year-old Akari Kanzaki, who hopes to win the "Cosmic Beauty" competition. With her teammates Kris and Anna, she must complete a 40-kilometer obstacle course run through a 1,000-year-old abandoned satellite in "Screaming Advance." They're off to a record-breaking start when the evil Mylandah sabotages the school's computer system, threatening not only the success of Akari's team, but their lives. The trio manages to escape through a combination of pluck, daring, and athletic prowess, although the girls still require the aid of Grant Oldman, the sky-surfing headmaster. The enormous satellite used as a test course crashes to Earth but causes no damage aside from the splash it makes when it hits the ocean. To recuperate, the girls go to a hot spring in the satellite that serves as their training camp/dorm, where they make a shocking discovery about Anna. "Match Unexpected" centers on the annual boys' school vs. girls' school competition, with Akari, Tanya, and Mylandah representing their alma mater in a game of Acro Spike, a cross between soccer and volleyball. The sexual undercurrents move into the open as Headmaster Oldman dresses his players in skimpy outfits and encourages them to pose provocatively to distract the boys. (The strategy backfires when the boys' school sends gay athletes to the contest.) Anna appears with a new identity and Kris, who continues to run around naked, gives Akari a full-body massage. --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars The T.V. Series is Excellent, While the other unbelievably horrible........2006-07-04

The T.V. ( The Victory Series) is amazingly funny, has reasonably good plot development, and has very nice moments, and great chemistry between characters. Although it does suffer the standard 1,2,3 kick that most anime programs suffer with, yet it does them in a good way.

What I mean is usually its Akari crying, her friends either pick on her or whatever to cheer her up, then they pulls a miracle out of their butts and win. BUT, they do it so gracefully one doesn't care. The funny sight of seeing them quarrel, and watching a jungle girl going around painting faces worshiping a sprinting god is hilarious.

Granted the plot and events are very unreasonable and unlikely, the characters are usually so enjoyable and the events fun that one probably will not care about logic, even when trying to apply it within the rules the show provides.

I watched the T.V. Series with no problem. Everyone from the cool headmaster to little crybaby Akari were either fantastic, or at worst still did not get on my nerves ( tough feat to accomplish.)
It's a very feel good comedy even in it's serious moments. Yes there are homosexual overtones in this film, but if you're looking for porn or straight out girl on girl action this isn't it. But the sweet interactions that do take place are hilarious.

Sound was okay, the Osaka fans were top notch, and if there were to be any complaints it would be that there aren't more episodes, and the character designs were a little weak.

Over all it was a fantastic show, that I don't' regret buying.

**************************************************

Now the summary episodes ( The Episodes without victory in their title, I.E. "On Your Mark", "Get Set" and "Go") are all notoriously hideous.

Plot development is so rushed that no one has time to come to care or find the characters interesting. Also they are not interesting in any sort of fashion, opposite of the regular series.

This feels to be more of a "What If?" gimmick spin off.
Character designs have been changed slightly, personalities are drasticly over bearing, many quality characters were just left out completely and the makers seem to try to make up for the lack of quality by adding more underage T&A, which for those who would be seeking another panty shot, bouncing breast anime this one is not good at that either.

Turning Kris from being a funny enjoyable romantic person, into a psycho nudist is a real drag. Again nothing shows even with full frontal nudity. Apparently women in the future don't need their body parts. The relationship between Akari and Kris was so funny and sweet, now it's just plain boring.

The next is how they butcher the mean girl (the super powerful upperclassman). Mylantha or something the other. Well without even doing the comparing thing, this one she just comes off stupid. Without explanation or anything, she just pounds the day lights out of 3 main characters, and can't say it's out of character for her since they never really developed hers in this section anyway.

Besides if I wanted porn I would have bought porn. I was in the market for romantic comedy, sadly but maybe fortunately now I know the short version stinks extremely badly. This is just a simple marketing scam appealing to the average 14yr old wanker who just wants legs. Basically with this you miss the romance, the laughs and everything that is good about the series. All you get is face, butt (and no guys it isn't even sexy butt) and 15$ish deduction from whatever payment method you use.

My recommendation skip this garbage and get the full T.V. set. This isn't even a good way to taste the series to see if you like it. Get Battle Athletes Victory Training or whatever and that will give you a good idea. Basically buy anything in this series with the word "Victory" in it's title and you should be very happy with what you bought.

4 out of 5 stars Battle Athletes the entire series.......2006-04-10

The art work was excellent as well as the sound quality. The story arc held together quite well but did slow in some parts.
Over all quite enjoyable. I will be playing it again whenever I would like light, feel good entertainment.
This is what I purchase movies and books for, entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars Wierd little anime... But oh, so cute!.......2003-07-10

I had heard of Battle Athletes Toshoyden before, (Original Japanese name) way back in 1996,but have never seen it.

I have to say it was well worth the wait, although I found it a bit wierd for them to be using a Saturn IV launch vehicle in the 50th century.

My only disapointment was that the discs only contain a meazly 2 episodes per disc. This could have been a much better series if they had crammed all 6 episodes onto one disc. This would have been a little more {money}, but far less of a waste.

If nothing else, I reccomend these discs for the beauty of the anime alone.

I found a lot of Star Trek , The Outer Limits, and a whole lot of Tenchi in here. All and all, a great little anime!

5 out of 5 stars great anime, however...........2002-08-30

I've already seen all of Battle Athletes Victory. It's very good. In my title when I say "however" I am saying that because if you're looking to buy this DVD, I think you should be aware that this specific DVD isn't the first in the series. Actually, im not completely sure, but all the info about this DVD leads me to conclude that this contains episodes from later on in the series. It starts where Akari has ALREADY entered the University Sattellite. The beginning of the entire series however, starts off at a training school in Antarctica. So... I recommend this series yes, but I also strongly recommend that you watch it from the beginning...

5 out of 5 stars Why did I buy this?.......2002-06-24

It was cheep & looked cute. I thought at least I would enjoy the animation if nothing else, but it was really a lot better than I was expecting! It looks so much like Tenchi (hair, clothes, setting, etc.) that that's what I thought I'd get. (I love Tenchi, too, of course) But the atmosphere is totaly different. Hmmmmm... can't really think of a series it reminds me of right off. It just has a really realistic, inspirational feel...It's really easy to get into how Akari feels about getting to University Satilite. She's excited & determined, even when she gets a bit of a shock, learning she's not as great as she thought, at the beginning. All the charicters are cool & original. For the most part they are too cute & awesome to hate. (because that happens too much! Poor Amelia... Poor Usagi... Poor Mia... weeeeell, Miaka's pushing it, but I like her, too.) None of them are the wimpy kind, anyway (they get bashed most) but they can't be, not if they got into US. Sorry, I just had to emphisize how well designed the characters are. They make the story great. The only one I don't liek is the B!tchy second year she meets in the first ep. XP but it's good to have bad guys, or how do you have heros. Oh, & another thing is, I didn't get bored. Not at all. I get bored easily, too. Still wavering? Get this anime. I'm telling you, you'll love it...
