In the first three episodes of this 13-part original animation video first released in January 1996, Lieutenant Shiro Amada comes to Earth to lead a Mobile Suit unit in the war with Zeon. He quickly establishes himself as a likable, enthusiastic officer who believes his first duty is to ensure the safety of the soldiers he commands. As his company includes tough-as-nails Sergeant Karen Joshua, spaced-out Corporal Eledore Massis, "jinxed" Sergeant Terry Sanders Jr., and anxious Corporal Michel Ninorich, Shiro has his work cut out for him. Unlike the stoic pilots of the Gundam Wing series, Shiro is excitable, kind, and often funny--which makes him an appealing character. Little is seen of the Zeon enemy, except for the aristocratic Aina Sahalin, whom Shiro meets in an impromptu space battle. Directors Takeyuki Kanda and Umanosuke Iida handle their characters' maneuvers through a sea of space junk much more skillfully than Don Bluth did in Titan A.E.. The bulk of the fighting takes place in lush tropical jungles, whose varied green palette provides an effective backdrop for the angular red-and-white Mobile Suits. Gundam: The 08th MS Team is set in 0079 UC (Universal Century), within the main Gundam continuity: the popular Gundam Wing series takes place in an alternate universe that uses the AC (After Colony) dating system. Rated 13 and up: violence, profanity, brief nudity. --Charles Solomon
Description
Universal Century 0079. Federation commander, Shiro Amada has now assumed control of his unit, the 08th MS Team. Their first missions have not been easy, and they don't look to be getting any easier. On their third mission, the 08th MS team encounters a new enemy Mobile Armor, the experimental Apsalus. After engaging it in battle, they return to base. Meanwhile, the Apsalus has been forced to land to make emergency repairs. And the Zeon have taken over the local village. A village where some of the 08th MS Team are heading for some R&R. Now, they lie in wait in the desert for the enemy Mobile Armor to make another appearance. It's a long wait, and with one of their team injured, it's going to be a rough road.

4 out of 5 stars A solid anime series.......2007-01-10

I only give this 4 stars because I love Gundam Wing best. Sorry. It's a solid series filled with combat, drama, action, and philosophy. It's a good series to collect for your Gundam fans.

5 out of 5 stars Short and Infinitely Sweet.......2006-06-13

The 8th MS Team is my single favorite Gundam series. I've always loved the plot of the original Mobile Suit Gundam and the ideas it presented about warfare, but the art is somewhat painful in this day and age. The 8th MS Team holds true to the original ideas of the series while updating the one year war with absolutly gorgeous animation. The Gundums are just advanced models of existing units, they're not the miniature war winning gods presented in other series. This uniformity lets the cast shine through. That's a good thing, because the struggles of the men and women of the 8th MS Team against all the death around are the most interesting parts of the series. For a show that combines gut-searing action with thoughtful depth, you can't beat the 8th.

4 out of 5 stars 08th MS Team.......2006-03-01

Personally, I think this is the best Gundam series made. Its more realistic than Wing, and you get more of a feel for the char's than in any other Gundam ive seen(the original, Stardust, Wing, Seed, pretty much all the Gundams).

If you like anime with actual story line, you will probably like this :D

5 out of 5 stars Good But parental cautions!.......2006-01-24

This series is an awsome addition to any Gundam Collection, But it is not for Children there is nudity use of swear words use of drugs Ect.

5 out of 5 stars Probably the best of the Gundams!!(WARNING: SPOILERS).......2005-12-23

I've only been seriously into anime for a few years. When Toonami started to use high calibre stuff like 08th MS team, Gundam Wing, and Outlaw Star I slowly started to get hooked. With all of the other Gundam series aired I was repelled by the crappy animation and long, drawn-out stories. Maybe I'm just not serious enough... or am I?

As stated before: the other series just weren't up to snuff with this one. The rich colors and crisp, clear animation are eyecatching. They truly emphasize the greatness of the series. I like how the mechas keep true to the fact that they are metal. In the original Gundam 0079 the Mobile Suits' sholder plates bent and the armor folded like skin around the joints. And when one of them got hit they ALWAYS exploded into dust. When an enemy Zaku II gets hit in this series you SEE it go down and burn. There is incredible attention to detail in everything this series does.

This series shows a lot of humanity. In earlier Gundam installations it was Good Guy/Bad Guy. Federation was ALWAYS good and Zeon was ALWAYS evil. In 08th MS Team they show an un-biased view of the One Year War. You feel for both sides of the conflict because they are shown as humans; not just soldiers. Same goes when Eladore gets drunk and thrown in a Zeon prison. It shows that he is more than just a Hovertruck operator. He makes mistakes and errors.

The story is also VERY excellent. The series shows EVERY aspect of the story so you know whats going on. It helps you understand stuff you wouldn't understand if they just showed action sequences. Some series like to do that. While the action is ample a love story is delicately nestled between the death and war. It shows that "love can bloom on the battlefield"(Metal Gear Solid reference^_^) I like the realism that Shiro and Aina have. Their missions come first. I like how later, when they realize that it's "now or never" they risk all to be together... touching(sniffle)

I highly recommend this series to hardcore collectors as well as budding fans. Even as short as it is it will deeply satisfy you.

In this brief OAV, Federation intelligence officer Alice Miller pretends to examine captured Zeon mobile armor, but she's really investigating the conduct of Lt. Shiro Amada during the skirmish that reunited him with Zeon noblewoman Aina Sahalin. Miller bluntly challenges Shiro's conviction that even enemy soldiers shouldn't be killed unnecessarily, but Shiro remains unshaken in his beliefs, even when staring down the barrel of a gun. Miller's Report consists almost entirely of recut footage from the 13-episode 08th MS Team adventure. Seeing Shiro and his loyal crew of misfits again is a welcome prospect, but there's very little that's new. The 08th MS Team is set in 0079 UC (Universal Century), within the main Gundam continuity. Rated 13 Up: Violence, profanity, brief nudity, alcohol and tobacco use. --Charles Solomon

3 out of 5 stars Clip shows! Big, bold, sassy, and brassy!.......2004-04-27

Remember all those old sitcoms that would take a whole episode to go over previous episodes like some kind of narcalyptic amnesiac? Well, if you're a Gundam fan, then you'll eat this up like candy! Miller's Report is an OVA one-shot that was released after the original Gundam 08th M.S. Team anime series and recaps some of the background on commander Shiro Amada and his platoon of mecha pilots. Alot of what went on in the first part of the series is recapped, but has some new footage added on to it. Not much here though, but there are some cool bonus clips dubbed in English from the Playstation Gundam games.

4 out of 5 stars Another "The End"?.......2004-02-08

As Matt Stone and Trey Parker (Made South Park) said,
"Flashback episodes are ususally used when the creators of a show is out of ideas and are trying to fill up air time. Well a flashback MOVIE? You would think it would be horrible, but it really isn't.
The reason there is only 4 stars is there is Barely ANY fighting sequences. The plus side is, the flashbacks are remastered so they look AWESOME. This Movie is basically for people who never got the chance to buy the DVD. Buy it now 'cause this DVD is discontinued. The Speech and sound could use a little work though.

PEACE!

3 out of 5 stars An interesting report?.......2003-07-23

O8th MS Team holds the honour of being the longest running Gundam OVA. Although a mere 12 episodes, it was plagued by behind-the-scenes problems that led to it taking almost 4 years to reach it's end. To try and gain some interest into the drawn out affair, Bandai produced a movie to tie in with Gundam's 20th anniversary. Thus, Miller's Report was born.

Largely made up from OVA footage, the movie adds a plot of the Federation sending one Alice Miller to investigate Shiro, who at this point is believed to be a Zeon spy. Although initially acting as Shiro's friend, we soon learn that this is a trick to get him to talk openly about his encounters with Aina. These flashbacks are made up of re-used footage from the OVA. However, the scenes are told from Shiro's point of view so you'll miss out on some scenes from the OVA. As Shiro is confined to base, a group of Zeon pilots end up coming to Kiki's village for food. Although they intend not to bring violence, the youngest of the Zeon is an arrogant jerk who soon starts a conflict. Word reaches the 08th MS Team, who go against orders to save their friends.

Some other reviews call this a waste of time and a desperate attempt to get more money from the fans. Whilst this is partly true, I believe the DVD is worth a purchase for Gundam/08th MS Team fans. Bandai have not brought over the similar but much worse 0083 compilation movie. Miller's Report shines where that fails, showing that this is the right way to handle such a project. There's also the very good extra of all the animation footage from the game Journey to Jaburo. Whilst you might expect a trailer or two, Bandai have been generous to include all the footage from the game. The only complaint I have with this is that you can only listen to it with the English cast.

Whilst not the greatest Gundam movie, 08th MS Team:Miller's Report certainly isn't the worst.

1 out of 5 stars Cynical attempt to squeeze more from the loyal fan.......2003-05-11

Warning: If you have the 08th MS series (or even just vol 3) do not buy this DVD. Please rent or borrow it and you will see why. It adds nothing to what you get in vol 3. There are several reason why I say this:

1) The events take place during episode 8 (Duty and Ideals) with truncated battle footage from episodes 7 and 8. It claims "over 25 minutes of bonus animation". It didn't seem like it was that it was that much to me and I not sure if this includes the "special feature" footage from the PS2 game "Journey to Jaburo". The only additional footage to episode 8 was extended scenes in the investigation of Shiro being a Zeon spy and the character of Alice Miller, a Federation Intel officer. Nothing is added to story that you see in episodes 7 and 8, except that the reason that Shiro and the team undertake the dangerous mission in episode 9 (Front Line) is because they were give the choice to go on the mission or be punnished (which meant a firing squad for Shiro). We also see short scene where Eledor returns from the hospital.

2)There is something wrong with the sound. The cover claims "New Japanese and English 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio". This "new" audio makes the character voices sound very tinny like they are speaking through a pipe. I found it really annoying and spoilt my viewing.

3)Value for money. I don't understand how they justify selling this DVD for a higher price that the 4 series DVDs when it has less actual content. The cheaper series DVDs contain 90 mins of episodes, Millers Report is only 55 mins long. I guess the higher price is because they sell it as a stand alone "movie" (which I think is pushing it).

4)Lack of special features. I might accept all this if something was added in they way of special features that you don't get on the 4 series DVDs but there is nothing that you don't get on those DVDs.

I love the 08th MS team series and think it is one of the best and most realistic Gundam series to date. But I have given it such a low rating because it is clearly a cynical attempt to squeeze more from the loyal fan, because the only people who are going to buy this after reading all I have said is the fan that must have it all for his Gundam collection. ...

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it........2003-04-06

I thought I was getting a movie that went passed the final episode 20. Well, I was wrong. Basically this just reiterates all the events that happened in the series. It sheds some parts about missing things but other than that,I would move on. Go see the next series in Gundam's universal century series. Go and get 0080 War in the pocket and 0083 Stardust Memmory. Those I highly reccomend watching after 08th MS Team which happens in 0079. Make sure to watch' em in sequence.

5 out of 5 stars Quite possibly the best Gundam ever.......2005-02-09

This series is quite possibly the best Gundam ever. It has good music, well-exectuted action sequences, and an instanly likeable story. The seeds of love between Shiro and Aina are planted firmly in episode 1, though you don't get to see them take root and grow on this volume. The only problem I encountered were a few lapses in the dub acting, but that just makes the characters seem more human. This DVD is well worth the money!

5 out of 5 stars 8th MS team dvd 2.......2004-05-16

Taking place in the year Universal Century 0079 (Same time as the original "Mobile Suit Gundam") Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th Mobile Suit Team tells the story of Shiro Armada and his team of Mobile Suit Pilots, for those wondering 8th MS is a great thing to watch if you are just now getting into Gundam. Now most Gundam series tell the story of a 15 year old Dragged into the war and how he and his friends win the war, 8th ms team is the opposite, it actually documents what the "regular" people were like in the time, they use regular robots that do not have the power to take down an entire fleet, and they fight against other regular robots like "Zaku II's". With that said you get to watch the team do various operations, like freeing a town from the control of ZEON, or doing stuff in the desert. One scene I really like is a scene where they are actually preforming maintence on a robot, scenes like this actually imerese the viewer in the feeling that this is what being a soilder is like.
The characters also have human sides, Shiro is trying to prove himself and keep his dysfunctional team intact, Micheal (Spelling) is suffering the woes of a long distance relationship, and there are many other characters with "human" problems, the characters also are not imortal, there are times when their MS get destroyed, and they get injured. There is also a love story, which I find rather interesting, because it has that whole "Two soilders on different sides fall in love." feel.

Would I suguest it? YES! to everyone. 8th ms team really shows what it would be like to be a grunt in the earth federation army, and also has a nice love story in it.

5 out of 5 stars MS TEAM (for adults too?).......2004-02-04

I started getting into the Gundam Universe in 2003. We have nothing Gundam related running in New Zealand on any of the TV channels, and I have been looking for something a little more mature than my trusted favorite, The Transformers. I took a punt with the Gundam movie box set, and have been entralled ever since. Of all the Region 1 Gundam shows I have so far (which is all of them bar G-Gundam) I would have to rate the 08th MS Team as tops. I'm not a huge fan of anime as such, but love the mecha shows. The depth of this story is a cut above your average run of the mill robot-jock show, and the animation is superb. Some of the English voice dub is patchy at times, but don't let this detract from an otherwise stellar OVA. Thoroughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Know the plot??? Here is the Tech side of this DVD!!!.......2003-05-11

Now I Know what all you are thinking. Who cares 'bout the plot? Well I will tell you about the technilogical side of "MobileSuit Gundam:The 08th MS Team Vol.2"(I'll call it"MS08v2".

When you first load the cd on your player it will show some of the companies that made it then go to the main menu. When you'r at the menu it will play the clip from the first episode on the disk showing the Apsulus firing at the 08th Team. It also has four icons on the bottom.

1) a movie camera that plays all three episodes.
2) a magnefied glass that is the scene access. Inside that there are five scenes you can play which says "opening, partA, part B, closing and preview". You can also chose witch episode to do that on.
3) a sound icon witch allows you to chose English Dubbed Version, or the original Japanese audio. (NOTE:the music in the dubbed is the same as in the Japanese) You can also chose to put the subtitles on or off. (Note:subtitles only say the Japanese script)
4) a clipboard that acceses the Bounus Materials menu. A)Trailers of BigO, PioltCanidate, AngelLinks, and MobileSuitGundam 0079. B) BonusClips that talk about Colinization, How the "One Year War" started, and about the Zeon and Earth federation Mobile Suit development Project. C) MS Encyclopedia that decribes the federation's Gundam, GM, GM sniper, Bustertank, and The HoverTruck. D) DVD Credits.

Overall This series is the best that Gundam, and Anime, has to offer. If you get this DVD I highly (on a scale of one to ten, 30) recommend you buy Volumes 3 and 4, THEY ARE THE BEST. The animation, music, sound effects, plot are all A+ quality! I ordered them on a thursday night and got them the next thursday! Thank you Amazon!!! Once you get those you should look into Gundam 0083! I'm getting that next from ONLY Amazon.com! Peace...

ps. I'm not saying not to get it, but, I heard "Miller's Report" (witch is the movie that summurizes the first half of the MS08 seires) got a very low rating from some reviewers.

One of most entertaining series in the Gundam franchise concludes in this fourth volume. The war between the Federal Forces of Earth and the space-based Zeon regime reaches a dramatic conclusion in the two-part episode "Shuddering Mountain." Shiro and Aina defy both the corrupt Federal commanders and Aina's maniacal brother Ginias, using Shiro's damaged Gundam to destroy the Zeon mobile fortress, the Apsalus, in battle scenes that are well staged and exciting. In a curious coda, Michel and Kiki search for their lost commander amid the ruined hulks of the war machines--and find the child survivors of a Zeon medical experiment. This emotional resolution is markedly different in tone from the rah-rah victories in conventional mecha series and makes 08th MS Team an unusually satisfying adventure. Rated 13 Up: Violence, profanity, alcohol use. --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars Romantic love story, noble war story.......2004-01-10

The classic elements are there: innocent love between enemies that overcomes the trials and tribulations of war and defeats an evil force.

Animation is quite good, and frankly, I find the plot and dialogue more plausible than any other Gundam series. Consider, for instance that the 08th MS Team is a group of earth-bound fighters. Technically, these guys wouldn't last against the new-types out in space. But, then again I thought the new-types like Gundam Wing fighters or Kou and Gato in 0083, who fly mobile suits at lightning speeds, were too fantastic. Not so with the 08th team. Shiro is definitely a personable and likeable character; he is mortal and he fights human enemies.

The drama that engulfs brewing evil force in the form of a new weapon, is the love story between Shiro and Aina. Against all odds, the two enemies end up together after a battle and fall in (or confess their) love. As a true testament to this love, the two would willingly sacrifice their lives to destroy the new weapon.

5 out of 5 stars A happy ending.......2002-10-29

At the end of the last episode, we find that Aina and Shiro are alive and well...and Aina looks to be pregnant (gee, who saw THAT coming?)
The first two espiodes is a two-parter and is the final battle between the Federation and the Zeon. I either didn't see the very last espiode ("Last Resort") on Cartoon Network or they didn't show it at all. On the Cartoon Network version, it isn't clear in Aina and Shiro survived the battle, as Miguel (spelling?) tells us that he never saw the two again. However, i am very happy for Aina and Shiro. Love knows no bounds (or sides in a war). A great ending to a great series!

5 out of 5 stars The BEST Gundam ever!!! 5 stars plus+++.......2002-08-10

I am a seasoned Japanese Anime watcher, being an avid follower and collector since childhood. With so many anime titles from the '70s, '80s, '90s, and up to the present for comparison, Gundam 08th MS Team is, without a doubt, rated among the very best of the best.

As a Gundam series, it is without equal. Forget about the recent hyped and fanciful Gundams such as Gundam Wing, or Gundam 0083. For these series may have the best looking Mobile Suits, they are actually being cleverly marketed alongside their plastic model franchises. But for those of us who are looking for a good anime with good storyline, 08th MS Team is the best bet.

O8th MS Team was released with very modest publicity. It did not not have a lavish budget to warrant fluid animation. And its Mobile Suit designs were very plain and workman-like. Many new generation Gundam fans scoffed at its down-to-earth reputation. They should watch the series once again.

What 08th MS Team lacked in its franchise department, has been compensated with a very well developed and mature storyline. Each character has different, and very well defined personality. They will grow into you. They were skillfully drawn to reflect their looks with their behavior. For instance; Eledore the music lover has a punkish look; Michel the day-dreamer is made to look like a nerd; Karen the tough Sgt. is a burly sort of woman who has brownish skin; Ginias Sakhalin was drawn to look like a handsome aristocrat but with greedy self-centered eyes. Aina Sakhalin is my favorite character. She has those dreamy eyes as any young girl in love would have. The tone of her looks was made to match well with Shiro Amada. One can see clearly the two lovers were not meant to be painted separately. One should pay tribute to the sensitivities of the character designer and the artists who had used the savviness of their skills to retell a version of Romeo & Juliet in the form of anime cells.

Action sequences? Believe me, episode 11(Shaking Mountain, Part 1) will take your breath away. If you think the battles between Kou Uraki & Anavel Gato, and Heero Yui & Zechs Marquis were great, check this one out. It is not just a case of two guys brawling and ripping each other's circuits out. It was an intense street battle, staged with both cunning and guile. It makes much more sense this way, and clearly defines what fighting on Mobile Suits is all about.

08th MS Team is a touching and moving chronicle. It is like a brilliant prose that pulls you heartstrings. It is such an egrossing experience watching this series.

5 out of 5 stars Near-perfect Gundam.......2002-07-15

Often when an anime series becomes wildly popular, it spawns several sequels, spin offs, and other such things. The "mobile Suit Gundam" series is one of those series. It's been around for 20 years and shows no signs of stopping. But can an anime so amazing transcend through time and still manage to keep the same themes without becoming cliche and also be fresh? Yes, yes it can. And "Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team" is proof.

"8th MS Team" is one of the many Gundam titles that Bandai has released as part of it's Gundam invasion. The 12-episode OVA series came out in 1996 and takes place in the year U.C. 0079 of the Gundam Timeline. The story chronicles the story of Fedearation pilot, Lt. Shiro Amada and his team of Mobile Suit pilots as they try to survive the remainder of the One-Year War. But Shiro's fate is altered by the war when he falls in love with a Zeon pilot named Aina Sahalin. How can love survive in a battlefield filled with hatred? Watch and see.

Unlike other Gundam series, that often involve dynamic battles that take place on both Earth and in space, "08th MS Team" strictly remains within the imposing environments of South-East Asia. Also, unlike the wildly popular "Gundam Wing," the Mobile Suits in this series are not shown as celestial gods, but what they were originally intended to be; war machines. The Gundams in this series are treated more like tanks and airplanes rather than "the ultimate harbringers of death" like in many anime series featuring giant robots, a staple theme in the Gundam series.

The story is well-done and brings a new-light on the Gundam story from 20 years ago. The events in this story take place at roughly the same time the events in Mobile Suit Gundam take place. Having the story take place on the neglected Earth battlefield allows for a perspective that does not screw up the Gundam history (*cough cough* Stardust Memory *cough cough*) and at the same time allows for something new.

The characters are very interesting. As with most of the Gundam series, watching the characters interact with one another is just as amazing as watching the Mobile Suits battle. Each character has his or her own dillema and manages to develop themselves as better characters through out the entire series. This is possibly one of the best cast acts seen in any anime, almost surpassing that of "Fushigi Yuugi's" and "Patlabor's," and that is a lot.

The animation is also extraordinary, there is rarely a dull moment in the action portrayed on screen. And since the series is only 12 episodes long, it allows for animation that can rival most Hollywood movies. It also allows for no re-used scenes in any of the action sequences, which anime like "Dargon Ball Z" and "Ronin Warriors" has become so fond of doing.

The music is also well-orchestrated and paced in quite well with the rest of the series. True, although it's not the amazing pieces created by Two Mix for "Gundam Wing," it's still something you would want to hum to when in the car.

My only gripe with this series is that it leaves a few things up in the air as far as backgrounds go. Sometimes, I wondered more about the deeper stories the characters have to tell, I'm quite sure they are as interesting as the main story. Well, it IS a 12-episode OAV so there is not enough time to dive into every one's stories, but it's still a wanted addition that would have probably enhanced the series.

Also, if someone doesn't know what a Zaku or a Gouf is, then they will be left in the dark as to some of the terminology used in the series. Luckily, DVD's 2, 3, 4 have bonus clips and MS Encyclopedia's under their extras that will turn a beginner in the Gundam universe into a Mobile Suit Master.

In the end, "The 08th MS Team" is a highly reccomended anime, and a must-have for any fan of Gundam, as well as a must-have for anyone who fancy's themself a Gundam-head. This series will want you to suit-up...again...and again...and again...

The third set of episodes in this mecha adventure focuses on conflicting loyalties. During a skirmish, Shiro and Aina save each other's lives--and discover their love transcends their commitment to the warring Earth Federation and Zeon Forces. Shiro wrestles with another moral dilemma when he violates orders and aids a friendly guerrilla village. Although he may have lost faith in the war, Shiro has grown more attached to the other members of the 08 Team, in contrast to Aina's zealot brother Ginias, who is willing to sacrifice Zeon soldiers to get his prototype Apsalus military robot into production. The principle characters' battles with their consciences are juxtaposed with some well-staged battles between space ships and Gundam robots. Rated 13 Up for violence, profanity, and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon

Description

Universal Century 0079. The 08th MS Team has engaged a new enemy mobile armor. As Shiro continues to battle the Apsalus, he recognizes the voice of the pilot -- it's Aina! They crash-land in the snowy mountains and realize that they will have to work together if they are to survive. Once they are both rescued, Shiro returns to face charges of espionage. And, if that wasn't bad enough, a rogue Zeon unit invades Kiki's village. Meanwhile, the Zeons have their own problems as the now-obsessed Gineas is determined to finish the Apsalus -- no matter the cost!

As seen on the Cartoon Network!

5 out of 5 stars 8th MS TEAM.......2004-05-16

5 out of 5 stars Another great disc.......2003-12-12

The episodes here are good but the reason why it Episode8 isn't 45 minutes is because Cartoon Network broadcast some parts from Miller's Report (The 08th Ms Team Movie recap) which had some more footage

4 out of 5 stars What The?.......2001-12-12

I admit that this is probably one of the best Gundam incarnations ever (I liked Wing, but I felt that it got repetetive in its action sequences and without Endless Waltz to close up the story, it stays that way). I enjoyed every single episode but there's just one thing that bothers me about this DVD rendition. Well, actually, two things, but one may just be my DVD players (a Playstation 2 and an old pre-DTS Sony):
1)the part that may just be me. The transfer of these episodes is really pretty bad as there seems to be some kind of flicker control problem. Whatever was being used to transfer the episodes to disc, it hated horizontal lines, especially on characters' mouths (they seemed to just disappear occasionally and flicker sporadically). But trust me, it is hardly worth complaining about (and it is not why this only gets four stars instead of a solid 5)
2)the part that really got on my nerves, hence the "What The?"
What happened to Episode 8? When I first saw this on Cartoon Network's Midnight Run, I was surprised that the episode ran 45 minutes! Though this is typical of an OAV series to have differing lengths in episodes, but for those extra 15 minutes to not be included in the DVD or VHS editions? What's going on?
The extra fifteen minutes of episode 8 are spent on a subplot involving "That Intel Chick" as Karen calls her. The episode actually ends with a standoff between Amada and the former Zeon spy...at gunpoint! It also involves the true return of Eledore from the field hospital, so his sudden appearance in episode 9 doesn't seem so...well, sudden.
Though my bet is now that they'll incorporate the footage into episode 10 as a flashback (though that would still through off the flow of the story).
So, that is the reason for this mere 4 stars, the flicker-problem is pale in comparison to the simple deletion of an entire subplot that enhances the storyline and gives the characters a dynamic boost.
So enjoy, but be warned, these episodes will feel incomplete...because they are!

5 out of 5 stars Disk 3.......2001-11-21

This has some of the best parts to the movie with the crash landing on the mountain and the subsuqent things needed to be done to survive being the best. This is series is a must have for any true anime fan, even if you aren't in to mecha battles. I wish they had done more the 13 episodes for this, and can't wait for the ending. If you have only seen this series on cartoon network, get the dvd, you will be amazed at what was edited.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Not to be missed!.......2001-09-27

08th MS Team is one of my favorite anime series, and this DVD is awesome! These three episodes are some of the best episodes, though I can't wait for Episode 10 to come out. When the Zeon team invades Kiki's village, you would expect them to be villainous, but infact they aren't. They are just looking for some provisions, and are kind as can be to the villagers, showing that there are good people on the so-called "bad" side of the war. And when Shiro and Aina are being questioned after being found in the mountains together, that was one of the best parts of the series that shows the true emotion and realism to 08th MS Team. I really enjoy these episodes and am thrilled they are out on DVD. Don't pass this DVD up, because Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team is one of the best gundam series out there. Sieg Zeon!

Sieg Zeon!
