This Japanese import featuring five teenagers with superhero powers may turn out to be for older girls what Pokémon is for the pee-wee set. The fantasy-action story lines of Sailor Moon (named for the leader) is typical anime fare--which means it's far more creative than anything you'll see on Saturday morning. And far more complex--the stories are intricate and flashback sequences feature wordless narrative. Then again, what high-spirited girl wouldn't love the magical makeup that transforms hip schoolgirls into butt-kicking heroines? In this one-hour feature, we meet a new foe, a mysterious childhood friend of Sailor Moon's boyfriend who returns--from deep space! His evil plan to rid the Earth of life includes flowers with awesome powers, vine-covered foes, and telekinetics. Quite the challenge for Sailors Moon, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter. Despite the action, the series certainly has a different feel and color scheme than most male-driven anime. The Japanese have two terms: shonen (for boys) and shojo (for girls), and if girls haven't had a chance to see the shojo anime, this is the starting point. This subtitled version is uncut from the original Japanese cartoon, and the reading crowd above 7 is the appropriate audience for the video's occasional spooky imagery. This unedited version was soaked up by kids in Japan, but the cultural differences might be questionable for American parents. There's a brief, nondescriptive conversation about homosexuality and ghostly naked figures (think Barbie doll) that are illustrated, although it's not nudity as much as the female form. The dubbed version has minor edits in action and dialogue, targeting a slightly younger crowd. --Doug Thomas

One of the best!.......2006-08-18
Out of hearts in ice,and the black dream hole i think this movie is the best although i think sailor moon can have to much drama all and all this is a pretty good movie and i think all sailor moon fans should watch this one its recommended by me and i myself is a huge sailor moon fan i have been watching sailor moon since it came on television and know they dont air it anymore and i think they should put sailor moon back on cartoon network anyways this is a good movie!
Best Sailor Moon Movie Ever.......2006-05-05
The title says all. Sailor Moon has been my favorite anime since I was a kid. When I was young, I was aware that it was originally made in Japanese, but I didn't show any interest until I got older. With all the talk about how original animes are always better than the dubs, I wanted to know what it was like to watch Sailor Moon in Japanese.
I finally did when I got this DVD. Everyone was right. Although the dub is still pretty good, the original is even more better. The dialogue is more accurate and doesn't include major cheesy lines like "MOON MAMA" *cringes*. The original music is also 100 times better. It matches the mood with the movie more often than the edited dub did. "Moon Revenge" is an awesome song :-).
I suggest to anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet or has seen the edited dub to watch the original subtitled version. You'll find that it's much better, and enjoy :-).
LOVE IT!.......2006-03-18
I dont care what anyone says, Sailor Moon has got to be one of the top anime ever! I cant get enough of it! I have the japanese collection as well as the english. I also have the movies, which this one is probably the best. Honestly i cannot even tell. They are all great. The animation, the writing, the charactors, everything is just perfect. Ive been a fan for some time now, and i will continue to be a fan just because of the quality of the work. Sailor Moon makes you laugh, cry, and cheer the entire time.
Just perfect.
don't know what people see in it.......2006-02-27
I've been told by several of my friends that this is an excellent movie, well i saw 2 seasons and hated them, but i was told that this was different. It wasn't, it was the same old washed up storylines and poor writing. Sailor Moon isn't a quality anime, it has neither the interesting charachters and interactions that have kept Inuyasha from falling into the 2 or 3 star range, nor the brilliant writing that make Fullmetal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop some of the best examples of modern anime. skip this, theres nothing remarkable here.
Best of all the Sailor Moon Movies.......2006-01-04
Out of all the movies, I would suggest watching this one the most. It's animation was spectacular, and the final battle was the best out of all the movies. I watched it in the english dubbed version and the japanese english subtitle version. There are those out there who will say the english dub is terrible, but give it a try. Watch both, and trust me, you won't mind watching it again. I like the english dub better just because it had the same voices from the series on tv. I also would rather watch the movie without having felt like i just read a book. Especially during the final battle. You're going to want all your attention on the animation and not the bottom of you screen. Thats just me though. The english version is also better for younger viewers; but again, both versions were good and you won't regret getting this dvd.
