This improbable fantasy continues, as a group of Japanese high school students explore their previous lives as Inca warriors. Kyoji, the 17-year-old hero, learns that his best friends, the mountain-climbing Dan and Seino, who talks to insects, also are reincarnated Incas. The three young men ally themselves with Yuka, the beautiful fiancée of Kyoji's kendo instructor, Tate. But Tate has assumed his former identity as the warrior Yawaru: he plans to let loose the god Iriyatesse to destroy most of humanity, allowing him to realize his vision of a "purified" civilization. To assist in this scheme, Tate has assembled the psychotic Shiogami; Shiogami's half-sister Tatsuko, who seems to nurture an incestuous passion for her brother; and the nerdy Daimon. In "Decisive Battle," Tate uses Iriyatesse's power to wreck a nearby town, killing thousands of people and revealing the extent of his megalomania.

"Nazca" features some handsome designs that evoke the Nazca line figures and Incan gold work. Tsuneyoshi Saito's elaborate score mixes Western classical music, Peruvian-inspired melodies, and pseudo-Philip Glass minimalism, although having Incas chant the "Scotch Snap" theme from the first movement of Dvorák's New World Symphony sounds more than a little incongruous.

Rated 13 and older for violence and profanity. --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2001-06-16

This anime takes a lot of historical refernce and deep reali life social diliema's and brings them together in a plot that takes most people by surprise. Most people are used to the calssic overly dramatized styles of now a days, Nazca doesn't use them and that can throw some people off, but when you take it as real life aspect, instead of over done drama it's an elegant and intruiging story.

4 out of 5 stars I didn't enjoy this as much as Blades of Fate.........2000-08-30

Episodes 4-6 [included in Blood Rivals] are not as impressive as the first three episodes [included in Blades of Fate]. The story has developed solidly into a battle between "unchecked brute force" and "balance and honor", and still has enough to keep me interested, but I miss the freshness of the first few episodes. Most of the character development seems to have been sacrificed to plot and pacing. DVD has choice of both dubbed and subbed versions.

4 out of 5 stars Title worth collecting.......2000-08-27

I was a little hesitant to buy this series because of the way the story line sounded but, I am sure glad i did. i now consider Nazca to be one of the best anime's in my collection. The plot developes really well and the characters are likable. I refer this series to any anime fan.

1 out of 5 stars Nazca-Blood Rivals.......2000-08-18

This is one of the WORST english dubs I have ever watched... Nazca is what appears to be a long line of poorly done work by New Generation

3 out of 5 stars Interesting, but it needs work.......2000-07-12

I'll admit I haven't seen very much of this, but it definitely has an interesting premise. It is very Aztec, has lots of fighting, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Definitely better than the "Fist of the North Star", but it doesn't compare well to things like "Record of Lodoss War".
