One of the principal sources of this series' considerable charm is the way the filmmakers show Sakura learning from her experiences and growing. Although she's badly frightened by the disappearances that the Erase Card causes at her summer school, she summons the necessary courage to defeat it, with some help from Shaoran. Things go smoothly for Sakura for the rest of the summer--even her older brother Toya is as nice as his nature allows--until Shaoran's loudmouth cousin (and self-declared fiancée) Meilin arrives. When Meilin tries to capture the powerful Fight Card, Sakura draws on her earlier experiences to overcome Fight and rescue Meilin--a challenge the more timid Sakura of the first episodes wouldn't have been able to face. The irrepressible Kerberos and tall-tale-spinning Yamazaki provide the comedy to balance these adventures. Rated 13 Up, but appropriate for children three to four years younger; minor cartoon violence. --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars The Fight Card!!.......2005-04-18

Cardcaptor Sakura: Vacation Daze: Vol. 5 continues the story of young Sakura Kinomoto and her quest to capture all of the magical Clow Cards. With the help of Kero, the "winged lion" guardian of the seal that Sakura broke on the cards, and her rival Li Shaoran, Sakura is put to many tests.

Just a wonderful series, as appealing to adults as children. The DVD's are not dubbed in English; only English subtitles and Japanese dialouge are available.

Volume 5 contains four episodes, which take place during summer vacation from school.

Episode 17: "Sakura's Scary Test of Courage" - Sakura goes on a summer trip to the beach with her classmates, but it turns into a test of courage as a "ghost" is scaring vacationers out of their wits. Is a Clow Card behind this? Will Sakura be able to overcome her paralyzing fear of spirits to get to the bottom of the mystery?

Episode 18: "Sakura, Yukito, and the Summer Festival" - Sakura has a chance to go to a summer festival with her older brother's dreamy friend Yukito. Sakura has a big crush on Yukito. Li Shaoran also wants Yukito's attention (as a friend/big brother), and this provides many amusing moments. Everyone dons yukatas (summer kimonos) and enjoys the fair. This episode has the gentlest card and the gentlest capture of the series. Quite lovely.

Episode 19: "Sakura's Summer Vaction Homework" - In Japan, kids are apparently given all kinds of projects to do over vacation that must be turned in the first day of school. Sakura has put it off until the last day. She goes to the library to look for a book, but Li is after it too. Something funny about the way the book keeps moving around . . .

Episode 20: "The New Exchange Student" - Another student arrives from Hong Kong. She is Mei Lin, and she claims to be Li's fiancee, although he seems none too happy about it. She is instantly jealous of Sakura. But will Mei Lin's martial arts skills come in handy when the Fight Card is attacking and defeating martial artists in the city? This is one of my favorite episodes. The fight card is so cool, as are all the action scenes.

5 out of 5 stars I laughed, which cannot be done with Cardcraptors........2004-12-19

I swear this version is so much better than Cardcraptors. I've had experience before with it around a year ago, and let me tell you, it's totally not true anime compared to this. Diolouge was changed, scenes were cut where there were funny parts {anime should at least be funny, but that can't be accomplished with Cardcraptors}, and even whole episodes were cut!!! Hard to believe but it's true. Thank You so much Pioneer for releasing Cardcaptor Sakura as a japanese series, I love it like that.

In the first episode:
This episode takes place during the summer, and Sakura's class is currently attending the beach. There, they have some cool activities, including a test of courage in a cave. But why does everyone inside the cave disappear? Ep.17 CARDCAPTOR SAKURA-SAKURA'S SCARY TEST OF COURAGE.

In the second episode:
Sakura, Tomoyo, Toya, and Yukito go to a festival at a shrine. But what afe the weird dancing lights that create a romantic scene between Sakura and Yukito? Is it a Clow Card? Ep.18 CARDCAPTOR SAKURA- SAKURA, YUKITO, AND THE SUMMER FESTIVAL.

In the third episode:
This episode takes place at the end of summer vacation. I hope Sakura learns a valuable lesson that you should not put your homework off until the last minute. Sakura's main concern seems to be finishing her book report, but the book keeps moving thanks to a Clow Card. Ep.19 CARDCAPTOR SAKURA-SAKURA AND THE SUMMER HOLIDAY HOMEWORK.

In the fourth episode:
Sharon's cousin, Meilin Li, transfers from Honk Kong to Japan, and is...going to attend his school!! It's very obviuos that she doesn't like Sakura all that much. Meanwhile, a girl wearing mysterious clothing is challenging black-belt karates. Is it a Clow Card? Ep.20 CARDCAPTOR SAKURA-TRANSFER STUDENT VERSUS SAKURA.
Highly Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Cardcaptor Sakura Rocks my sox!.......2004-12-07

I love this DVD it's so kawaii! (cute) I suggest you should buy this item. I love it!

5 out of 5 stars So Cool!!!!.......2004-06-15

Out of the first season, this is the best! I love the cover and episodes. Another fascinating story by Clamp :) The card she captures are the Erase,Lock, Glow and Fight cards. Also, Meilin makes her starring role!
Other anime I like are Kaleido Star, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and a teeny bit for Sailor Moon.

5 out of 5 stars Sakura episodes 17-20 wonderful.......2002-02-16

If you've ever watched the dub, you might think that Card Captor Sakura is every bit as boring, plotless and just plain BAD as its dubbed counterpart. Not so, as you can see with these four episodes.

In "Sakura's Scary Test of Courage," Kinomoto Sakura is at a summer-school trip for Tomoeda Elementary students. Although she is frightened by her friend Yanagisawa Naoko's ghost stories and the mysterious disappearances of students, she manages to capture the Erase card and return them all, with help from her ally, Li Syaoran.

After that, Sakura-chan is at the amusement park with her friends, and the Glow card makes it even more spectacular for her. It's not just Sakura that likes the card's act of lighting up the park- her longtime crush, Tsukishiro Yukito, also thinks it's wonderful, which actually makes Sakura-chan hesitant to seal it!

Next, Sakura is chasing the Move card, trailed by her camera-toting best friend Daidouji Tomoyo. They meet up with Syaoran and seal the card, which was causing trouble by moving Sakura's book around... but who is this mysterious new girl that seems to know Syaoran?

We find out the answer to that in "Sakura and the Fighting Exchange Student," where the mysterious girl shows up at Tomoeda. She is revealed to be Syaoran's cousin, Li Meiling, but proclaims herself to be his fiancee! As if that wasn't enough, she isn't too happy that Sakura, being the Card Captor and being assisted by Syaoran, might be a threat to her- so she acts as if Sakura is her rival. Meiling, with her martial arts skills, ends up hurting the Fight card badly, but she still can't admit that without magic, she can't do much, and that Sakura isn't really bad.

So, I'll just end this by saying that the original Card Captor Sakura is great. In the words of Sakura-chan at every next-episode summary: "Next time too, together with Sakura, release!"
