Pilot Candidate - The Academy (Vol. 1)

Originally entitled Candidate for Goddess (Megami Kouhosei), Pilot Candidate is set in A.D. 4084. The human race has somehow destroyed all but one habitable planet, Zion, which they must defend against the monstrous aliens known as "Victim." Three teenage candidates, klutzy Zero, arrogant Hiead, and sensible Clay, arrive at the GOA Space Academy and immediately get into trouble. They all hope to become pilots of the "Ingrids" or "Goddesses," five giant robots used to fight the Victims. The story (the first three episodes are included here) borrows heavily from Evangelion, Lain, Nadesico, El Hazard, and Gundam. Although the program includes some sophisticated computer graphics, the filmmakers don't resolve the disjuncture between the 3-D CG robots and the 2-D drawn characters. The Goddesses resemble enormous mechanical caryatids, but their designs lack the imagination and power of other anime series. Rated 13 Up: Violence, brief nudity, minor profanity, tobacco use. --Charles Solomon
Description
The planet Zion has become mankind's last hope for survival. But the legions of Victim are intent on destroying humanity! Five humanoid fighting weapons called Ingrids are capable of stopping Victim's onslaught, but only the best pilots are chosen. Those individuals lucky enough to undergo training are sent to G.O.A. and officially become known as Pilot Candidates. Do these candidates have what it takes to make it to the top or will they succumb to the pressure? The fate of Zion rests with these chosen few.

As training continues at the Academy, Zero's special ability--his extraordinary speed--comes to the fore when he's paired with a senior candidate, the telepathic Erts Cocteau. They make an effective duo, fighting together in the test mecha, the Pro-Ings. Erts sees into Zero's rather simple psyche and approves of his single-minded dedication to becoming a pilot. But their partnership proves short-lived: Erts is promoted to commissioned pilot when his older brother Ernest is killed in a battle with the alien Victim. (Zero's rivalry with Hiead falls by the wayside during these episodes.) The designs of both the Pro-Ings and Ingrids are flashy and dramatic, but they're badly animated: the supposedly huge, multi-ton machines have no weight when they move. Rated 13 Up: Violence, minor profanity, tobacco use. --Charles SolomonCustomer Reviews:
WE WANT THE REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-10-13
Watched it years ago on TV and still can't forget it........2004-03-22
Oy, I wish I had bought something else.........2003-12-19
This anime is great!!! I wish everyone would love it!!!!!.......2003-08-03
Mankind built huge mechas called Ingrids or Goddesses. The candidates must first train to become one of the 5 Goddess pilots. They go to the Goddess Opperating Accademy or GOA. And when they become pilots they go to GIS. And.....
To be a candidate you have to have the abiltity of EX. Having a reaction to such a power turns your hair teal. It may be telepathy or the power to move fast without being seen. OK.....
The story follows 5 candidates. The main character is Zero Enna. He is a hyper boy and can't stop talking about his dream to pilot the White Ingrid that saved him when he was younger. He has a rival named Hiead and friends Yamagi, Roose, Clay, and another senior named Erts whose brother is a pilot.
Zero and his classmates train and live on GOA. And the story also go into the lives of the pilots. Now...
I love the anime and I'm getting the DVDs. It came on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network but was cancelled for some strange reason.
Get it because it's in space and space is COOL!!!!
