The second episode on this disc, "Pierrot Le Fou", epitomizes the mixture of sardonic humor and noir adventure that has made Cowboy Bebopso popular in Japan and the U.S. Spike fights a deadly duel with the title character, the product of a botched ISSP (Inter Solar System Police) attempt to create a perfect assassin. Their showdown takes place in a saccharine but sinister amusement park, a device used in many live action and animated films, but rarely so effectively.

Director Shinichiro Watanabe uses an impressive array of computer effects to depict a battle in hyperspace in "Boogie-Woogie Feng-Shui," as Jet helps the daughter of an old friend solve a mystery involving gangsters and mysticism. When pirates hit the Bebop with a computer virus in "Wild Horses," Spike demonstrates his skill as a pilot, flying the Swordfish by the seat of his pants. In "Cowboy Funk," Spike almost captures the Teddy Bomber, a fanatic who hides explosives in stuffed animals, but he's interrupted by Andy, a wealthy heir who plays at bounty hunter in cowboy regalia. The near-farcical rivalry that develops between Andy and Spike feels closer in tone to the misadventures of Vash the Stampede in "Trigun" than the gritty hero of "Pierrot Le Fou."

Unrated: suitable for ages 13 and up for violence, profanity, and smoking. --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars another set of fantastic episodes........2003-12-27

I must say I'm quite relieved to find that Cowboy Bebop is rebounding back after the slight dip in episode quality I noticed in DVD3 and to a lesser extent in DVD4. I'm happy to report that 3/4 of this DVD is top-quality Bebop material, and it definitely deserves to be a part of every anime fan's library.

Episode 19 - Wild Horses
If there is any episode on this disc which didn't quite live up to the Bebop name, it was Wild Horses. The plot is decent enough, but things just seem to move along a bit too slowly.

Episode 20 - Pierrot Le Fou
Unquestionably the best episode of the group, Pierrot has comedy and action but most of all, it reeks of creativity. I always enjoy the unique episodes the best, and this one hooked me right from the start.

Episode 21 - Boogie Woogie Feng Shui
A decent episode marred only by the fact that the new guest character is almost as annoying as Ed. Otherwise, the space firefight was cool.

Episode 22 - Cowboy Funk
Another great episode, obviously intented for some comedic relief after the somewhat emotional end to Boogie Woogie. Andy is a cool character, and the bounty here is a really funny guy.

This DVD is a worthy member of the Cowboy Bebop library.

5 out of 5 stars Second to Last..........2003-10-21

The second to last DVD shows exactly how crazy the future can be by throwing in wild-crazy characters (much like Sympathy for the Devil, episode 6)

19: Wild Horses: New character: the old spacer that gave Spike his ship. This episode has some good space-scenes in it, especially the search-and-rescue attempt.

20: Pierrot Le Fou: New Character: Tongpu, the most twisted murderer in all of cinematic existence. Spike runs into the murderer, apparently killing random drug lords, and Spike gets away. Later, the final showdown happens in an amusement park.

21: Boogie-Woogie Feng-Shui: Jet-isode, New Character: Jet's old friend's daughter. She seeks out Jet to find her father (actually they meet in an awkword place, thanks to something called universal feng shui.

22: Cowboy Funk: Nearly a Spike-isode. A new face (Andy) shows up; a "real" cowboy, about as smart as horse droppings but somehow always in the right place at the right time. The crew (mainly Faye) tells Spike that he's just like Andy, but most viewers call her a dumbass at this point. Then, comedy insues.

The extras here aren't too great (like the rest of the DVDs), but I think Le Fou and Funk are good enough to make this DVD extremely buyable.

5 out of 5 stars "Cowboy Funk" is worth the price alone........2003-06-20

Yes, I must say that "Cowboy Funk" is one of the best episodes in the series, and certainly one of the funniest. Plus, the other episodes are just as good. Too bad it's getting towards the end. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes Anime or wants to get into Anime.

5 out of 5 stars Open Foot, Insert Mouth.......2003-02-19

Session 5 is almost a break before the episodes that will wrap up the series. Here we get to enjoy what is quintessential Bebop - humor, some scares, and stories with an unexpected twist. Each of these stories introduces a unique character. None will reappear, although is a few circumstances the viewer will wish otherwise. We also get to see an unexpected side of Jet and Spike making a complete idiot of himself (which is normal, I guess).

With only one DVD left to go in this series, I am already experiencing Bebop withdrawal. No matter what else I am reading or watching, Cowboy Bebop has always been a welcome change of pace. If you have been watching these along with me I'm sure you have discovered the same thing.

Episode 19 - While Spike is getting his old ship overhauled by Doohan - who assembled the Swordfish out of scrap years ago - Faye and Jet try to catch some pirates and get a computer virus instead. Look for a ghost out of the past to come to the rescue.

Episode 20 - Jet gets a note from an old friend and feng-shui master. When he arrives he finds Pao's daughter instead and starts on a wild chase for the 'sun stone.' This time Ein puts his paw on the answer and Ed figures it out.

Episode 21 - Spike stumbles into the middle of an assassination and finds that he is now being hunted by a deadly maniac in a top hat and ruffles. 'Mad Pierrot' decides Spike has to go to the 'fun' house.

Episode 22 - Imagine a bounty hunter with one-third the intelligence of a pumpkin and three times the accident proneness of Faye and you have Andy and his trusty horse. Of course, Andy and Spike have duke it out for who owns the title of 'real' cowboy - and avoid being blown to smithereens by a teddy bear.

5 out of 5 stars For "Pierrot Le Fou" if nothing else........2002-11-06

"Pierrot Le Fou" alone is worth the price of the DVD. Even if two episodes are ho-hum by Bebop standards--as some reviews claim--they are better than the vast majority of other anime. Those episodes probably seem so subpar because they are packaged with two absolute classics.

Each of these two snazzy 20-minute installments is a self-contained and satisfying adventure tale about a futuristic hipster bounty hunter, from the most popular Japanese animated TV series of 1998. This is elegant action-comedy anime, with smoothly integrated CGI space-flight elements, gorgeous graphics, blues harmonica and sax riffs on the soundtrack, and a no-sweat post-Tarantino attitude. Despite occasional eruptions of gun-fu Asian-action violence, and some intimations of heavy-duty drug use (one especially noxious narcotic is administered as an aerosol spray, straight onto the user's eyeballs), the tone is surprisingly convivial. None of the generic tough elements are grim or mean-spirited. Lanky antihero Spike Spiegel is a planet-hopping bounty hunter with a cyborg sidekick and a genetically enhanced Welsh Corgi assistant, and as many wisecracks as punches get thrown. The emphasis is on clever twists of plot in an episodic short-story format. --David Chute

5 out of 5 stars YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.......2007-04-13

This DVD is fantastic! Cowboy Bebop is inspiring thousands today with it's quirky stories and awesome characters. Spike still is amazing. The intro of Faye is well done. The japanese version is fantastic (Still love Megumi Hayashiabira), and the english version copies it's greatness almost word for word. (Not to mention it's packed with special features.)

5 out of 5 stars Viewing Sequence.......2007-03-16

About the Remix, I think the picture quality is better. Nothing monumental but better nontheless. Plus, it's not like the original DVDs are really available anymore anyways. I can sympathize with those who have invested in the originals, but for those of you who haven't gotten this series yet it's your lucky day.

There's nothing else I can really say about this anime that the other reviewers haven't already. It's simply awesome. If you haven't gotten into it yet, go for it.

My main two cents involves the sequence of how you watch this series. I watched it all on Adult Swim before actually purchasing the DVDs. And I didn't always have time to watch each night, so I didn't have a linear viewing experience. I found this to actually be a good thing. I dont want to reveal any spoilers, so I'll say simply that my opinion on getting the most fulfilling experience is to watch the first 5 DVDs straight through. But after that, watch the movie. THEN go on to the 6th DVD. You'll understand why once you've gotten there.

You won't necessarily have any less great of an experience if you decide not to do this. But after having been able to do it this way myself, I can't really imagine it any other way.

4 out of 5 stars I'm reviewing the product I selected!.......2006-02-26

And I must say...it's a show that is well worth the $$. An exceptional story and some of the best animation that I've ever seen!

Here's the only reason why we go from 5 to 4 stars. Bless there hearts, the writing from overseas just doesn't have the same appeal to me as shows and television from the states. They tend to be disjointed and take too many things for granted. I live for the day that someone doesn't just adapt an overseas anime but in fact writes it and then recruits an animation team.

That would be a five star animated series!

5 out of 5 stars Even better.......2006-02-08

Cowboy Bebop remains a masterpiece of anime. The 5.1 mix only adds to the effect. The space battles take on a life of their own as you hear rockets screaming past you, you will want to duck as you think the Bebop is flying overhead and feel like you are in the middle of a firefight as the bullets go whizzing by. It only makes a good show better and that is worth paying for.

2 out of 5 stars Remix, we dont need no stinking remix !.......2005-12-19

Does anyone else have horrible sound quality on their Remix #1 disk ? I thought this was supposed to be a remix for better sound and I hear all kinds of screaching and poping on the audio on the disk I bought.
Great Anime series - Horrible dvd sound quality.
