Ocean at their best.......2007-02-22
Dragonball Z, the way it was meant to be dubbed!
These movies mark the first time Dragonball Z was made uncut, and used the original Japanese BGM alongside the English dub. It was also the first time any Dragonball Z DVDs contained the original Japanese audio, with English subtitles.
The one thing any new fan of Dragonball Z will notice, however, is that the English dub on here DOES NOT use today's voice actors of Dragonball Z, but rather a select cast from the Canadian dubbing group, Ocean Studios. Now this doesn't take away from the enjoyment by any means, because these guys know how to REALLY act! The English dub on these movies is so ahead of it's time, and there's nothing amiss here. The English dub keeps a dead-on script to the Japanese script, and the actor's deliver it in full. The only real downside to this set, is it's video quality; being an early DVD, it didn't have the encoding or transfer technology that there is today, and it shows. But don't let that stop you from making your decision for these DVDs, as it doesn't take anything away from the enjoyment of these movies. But if your not going for the English dub, and just want the Japanese version with subtitles, DON'T GET THIS SET. Instead get the new "First Strike" boxset, as it contains EXCELLENT subtitles by Steve Simmons, the very famous translator of the series, which he did not translate the subtitles on these DVDs.
The only setback, would be the rarity, and price... Right now, it's alittle overpriced at amazon, I would suggest hunting around on ebay.

Best DBZ .......2005-03-20
I did not buy the boxed set of this, but I have found and bought all three, which took a while because they are so rare. They are rare because they were made by Pioneer, and all the DBZ pioneer tapes are very hard to find.
Movie One:
Dead Zone
I suppose this movie would happen before the show starts, but that's not possible because all the cast knows Gohan already.
In the beginning, Gohan is kidnapped by garlic Jr.'s henchman, and is taken to Garlic jr.'s fortress. Goku and piccolo arrive, shortly followed by Kurririn (Krillin.) They kill the henchman and then Goku and Piccolo fight Garlic Jr. In desperation, Garlic Jr. summons a Dead zone (black hole) but gets sucked in himself.
Running Time: 42 minutes (uncut)
Movie Two
The World's Strongest
This film could never had happened, because it goes in between the saiyan and Freeza saga, so Piccolo couldn't be alive.
Dr. Kochin summons the Eternal Dragon to free Dr. Wheelo from a block of ice. Then Bulma and Muten Roshi are kidnapped because Dr. wheelo wants the body of the wrold's strongest fighter. Goku arrives, and so does Piccolo and Kurririn. They battle their way through the bio-henchman and then Dr. Wheelo attacks in a giant machine. Goku goes Kaio-Ken X10, but must use a Genki-Dama to finish off Wheelo.
Running Time: 59 minutes (uncut)
Movie Three:
The Tree of Might
This film could never had happened, because it goes in between the saiyan and Freeza saga, so Piccolo couldn't be alive.
In the beginning, Gohan and Kurririn meet Hyra Dragon in a forest, and the dragon comes to live with Gohan. Then the tree of Might is planted and some saiyan's who survived the destruction of their planet arrive. their leader is Terles, who is very mad at Goku, like all saiyans are. After feire battles and some well chosen swear words, Goku kills Turles and the Tree of might is destroyed.
Running Time: 62 minutes (uncut)
I think these three are the best DBZ movies. They have strong storylines and good diolouge. These movies were done by Pioneer, so the voices are different, some for the better. (Gohan, for one.) Also, these DVD's have better special features than the others, although not by much. I highly reccomend all of these, even if it takes you a whle to track them down.
Dragonballz 1-3.......2004-03-11
These dvds are ok.l the later dbz movies are much better, 5-10.
there are no super saiyans. they all take place after vegeta and nappa, but before nameck. over all, they get 3 stars.

DO NOT BUY.......2006-12-31
DragonBall Z was not meant to be watched edited even if unedited costs a little more its worth it. Its been my favorite show since I first saw the show. So i am telling you now its not worth suffering through a horrible edited version.
I WARNED YOU !!!!.......2006-12-22
THIS IS SO BORING !!! ITS ALL CUT!! THE GREAT FIGHTS !! HERE THE EPISODES ARE TOO SHORT DONT BUY THIS ITS EDITED IF YOU WANT IT BUY THE UNCUT VIRSION ITS MUCH BETTER .
Dragonball Z Beginnings.......2006-04-17
Ok, ok, ok. Now, honestly, I don't think this saga is half bad! It has some great stories that are totally original and awesome! I especially like Goku traveling on Snake Way! Even though the voices are terrible and they edit all of the good stuff, this saga gets ragged on a lot more than it should. This set includes the 3 or 4 episode turned special of Radits, Goku traveling to Snake Way, Goku training with King Kai, and the Fights that break out between the Saiyans and the Z Gang. Even if you are a beginner and choose the Vegeta Saga over this, I would at least reccomend to give this a whirl.
FIRST SAGA OKAY.......2006-03-11
THIS WAS PIONEER'S MASTERPIECE I THOUGHT IT WAS OKAY AND NAMEK SAGA IS EVEN BETTER BUY IT IS AWSOME!!!!
Too long..........2005-12-27
I watched most of the series and the last episode back then... some of the fight scenes are too long, and plain boring. But don't get me wrong, quite hilarious and I laughed all the way through especially when Gohan engaged in a fight scene with Frieza. Gohan and Goku are super saiyans and they have this special power... Man... this is something!!!
You gotta see this one!

Customer Reviews:
One of the weaker sagas to me.......2007-03-21
I give the Namek saga a 3 for two reasons. 1)This is the edited version. Complete with those very annoying voices, no blood, and the full contact blows are removed. 2) This saga is alright at best.
The namek saga begins by ending the final battle with Vegeta on earth. A battle the Z-Fighters narrowly won. Goku was beaten half to death and needs time to recover. The ones who are left want to travel to Namek to collect the Dragonballs to bring their friends back to life. Seriously the story is pretty boring at the begining. Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma are the main characters. The story doesn't pick up until Frieza, the strongest being in the universe appears searching for the dragonballs also. This saga also introduces Frieza's hitmen the Ginyu Force.
The saga isn't too bad, just don't expect what you saw in the Saiyan saga. There's a few good battles, but this is only a prequel to the Frieza saga, thats when things really start to pick up. My advice is not to purchase this saga. Funimation is releasing the uncut namek saga boxset this May. Which is going to be alot cheaper than what these price gougers are selling. If you like to waste money then pick this up. This saga really isn't great and to top it off its edited also. This just isn't a good bargain. I own the entire DBZ collection and I haven't watched this saga in a couple of years.
Namek Is The Greatest.......2006-08-03
The Namek Saga is the greatest of all sagas. Unfortunatly you cannot buy this saga anywhere hardly. I think that it should be sold on every store that sells anime. Amazon sells alot of DBZ yet their collection lacks the Namek Saga. If you ask me i think they should order a bunch from somewhere because i think it would sell.
The Namek Saga is a BUST!.......2006-04-17
Unlike the Saiyan Conflict, I don't like this saga. Its 28 episodes of fluff. Just waiting around for Goku. This saga I do reccomend to pick up the new pioneer version.
dubbed our awsome!!!!!.......2006-03-09
