The fifth Pokémon movie takes Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu to the city of Altomare, a thinly disguised Venice guarded by the shape-shifting Pokémon Latios and Latias. Two new agents of Giovanni's, Annie and Oakley, are out to capture these rare Pokémon--reducing Team Rocket to the role of spectators. Latios and Latias are linked to an elaborate, computer-generated mechanism that defends the city, controls the tides and brings fossil Pokémon back to life. Ash and Pikachu foil the evil plan with some help from Misty, Brock, and Bianca, a girl who lives in Altomare with her kindly grandfather. The contrived story suggests that as far as features are concerned, the Pokémon franchise has pretty much run dry. (The film earned less than $1 million in its U.S. theatrical release.) Extras include a Camp Pikachu short and a Pokémon Heroes trivia game. (Rated G, all ages: minor cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars A Pokemon Favorite.......2007-07-03

So, I saw this as an advertisement. The very next day, a trip to Wal-Mart followed. Along the way, I stumbled upon this particular Pokemon movie. Seeing as I had enjoyed the previous films, I thought, "What the heck?" and bought this. I wasn't the least bit disappointed, let me tell you!

As you proceed in watching this, you think that it's just the regular plot of Team Rocket capturing these legendary Pokemon, using their power as their own, the protagonists succeeding in victory once again due to the "power" of friendship, end of story. Well, the plot is portrayed even deeper this time around. It's very heart-felt, indeed. It even moved me, for not a very brief moment. Again, seeing as this doesn't happen much during movies, I was very impressed. I give this movie credit for its pouring emotions evoking the viewer's own, thus creating a magnificent addition to any Pokemon collection.

The entire plot seemed natural, and once again, the power of friendship victored even the nastiest of villains. Yes, this is exactly why I gave this movie four stars, for the ever-lasting trump card of friendship. C'mon, can't these guys think of something better? Ah, well; perhaps a different solution would've ruined it. Nonetheless, I think this deserves four stars. This, currently, is my favorite movie of the Pokemon series.

Highly recommended for avid Pokemon fans, and for younger viewers and the like. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

5 out of 5 stars Pokemon Heroes: Latios and Latias.......2006-12-26

This movie was one of the best Pokemon Movies I have seen my whole life. I saw it a long time ago but now I got to see it again. I saw all the Pokemon Movies but I say this one is the best, next to Pokemon 2000. The story is about Ash and his friends visiting Altomore(I think that's how you spell it.) The movie starts out with Ash and Misty in a water race, along with the theme Pokemon Master Quest. That was one of my favorite parts. Then they found out about two lengendary Pokemon, Latios and Latias, guardians of this city. Ash and his friends were exploring when he met this girl. Two bad guys were chasing her. Well, I can't tell you the whole story, or that will ruin the best part of it. EXCITEMENT! You should definetly buy this DVD, because it's just the best! It has a sad ending which made me cry. When it ended it also had a cute ending. I hope when you see this movie you'll become a Pokemon Fan like me one day!:)

5 out of 5 stars even if you're not in elementary school anymore..........2006-10-02

Pokemon Heroes is one of the greatest Pokemon movies in the history of its ten years in the business. I'm in 8th grade now, and I want to see this movie again after casting away what I grew up with. When I first watched this movie, I loved it. I watched it as many times as I could before I had to return it to Blockbuster. It's a great movie for the family, and it's something that you can never really forget, no matter how old you are. Pokemon: Jirachi Wishmaker is great too. I didn't like it as much as Pokemon Heroes, but its another great Pokemon movie.
In its ten years of enlightening people's hearts around the world, Pokemon has made its landmark in history.

2 out of 5 stars The good, the bad, and the ugly..........2002-05-02

The good: the original season of Pokemon. The animation wasn't exactly the best ever, but the plotline was interesting and the characters fascinating. The individual episodes were all unique and unpredictable. Although Ash was obnoxious, it was wonderful watching his relationships with Misty, Brock, and Pikachu develop. The Pokemon themselves were wonderful as well. Each had its own distinct personality, a rarity in a monster of the week show like this. And of course, we can't forget good ol' Team Rocket, the classic goofy, wants-to-be-bad-but-isn't-really villain duo. I found myself really caring about the characters and what happened to them (although several times I found myself wishing Ash would just fall off a cliff...)It was truly heartwarming and interesting, a quality most cartoons I had ever seen lacked. It was the first anime I had ever seen, and I'm glad this was my introduction to the genre.

The bad: Pokemon Orange Islands. Okay, they weren't that bad, but they weren't nearly as good as the original season. The lack of Brock's oversexed disposition seriously hindered the comedy, and Tracy was even more annoying than Ash, if that's even possible. To be fair, about midway, Pokemon was starting to lose its popularity, but I just didn't find this season as fun as the last.

The ugly: Pokemon, the Johto Journeys. This season is awful. Although Brock is back and Tracy is gone (YAY!), something is definitely missing. The new Pokemon, many of which are frankly ugly, are the focus of this season, and I miss all the original Pokemon. Pikachu isn't nearly as dynamic as he once was, with Chikorita taking precedence. And all the romantic tension between Ash and Misty? Completely disappeared. Plus, the plotlines are all VERY formulaic. They go something like this:

Ash-tachi comes upon a town where some trainer (usually a little kid) is having a problem with his/her Pokemon.

Ash-tachi tries to help him/her, to no avail.

Oh no! Team Rocket has stolen Pikachu/sabotaged something!

The messed-up Pokemon saves the day, and suddenly all is well!

Ash-tachi waves goodbye and walks off into the sunset.

Come on, you know it's true. It truly hurts me to see a once-great show decline so sharply. Once, it was a truly creative, fun show for people of all ages, with an almost universal appeal. It *deserved* to be The Next Great Thing. Now it's simply a product of people trying to continue something way too far, trying to squeeze the last penny out of it. I miss the fun character interactions, the interesting plots, the dynamic battle sequences. Hell, I even miss the bad puns that just make you groan. I miss...Pokemon...

5 out of 5 stars The king of Kids' WB! Let's get wired for action!.......2002-01-09

Even though Nintendo Power will no longer sell the Pokemon comics any more, I'm going to love this volume just like you told me. They contain the following:

"Hour of the Houndour". In this episode, I don't know what it's all about, but I noticed that the Houndour will want to rescue Pikachu from Team Rocket, because they're the midnight heroes, not the midnight villains.

"The Totodile Duel". In this episode, Ash and the gang encounter Totodile, the Water-type funny since he's the funniest of the 3 starter Pokémon you get to choose at the start, by throwing the Lure Ball at Totodile. When they do, Ash and Misty can't get their fair share, so they must battle one-on-one to see who gets to keep the Totodile.

And finally, "Hot Matches!". In this action-packed episode, Ash encounters Skarmory, who is not only a Metal-type, but also a Flying-type Pokémon. However, there's only one drawback. Why did Skarmory use Steel Wing against Cyndaquil, even though Cyndaquil is a Fire-type, and won the battle in one blast? You'll just have to find out.

Now, thank you all once again on your cooperation on what to rank, and good luck to all you Pokemon trainers out there. For volumes 13 and 14 (which is the final volume of the Johto Journeys), I'll see you in Spring Break 2002. Hang in there everybody! You're almost there to the end of the series!

5 out of 5 stars The king of Kids' WB! Return of the Squirtle Squad!.......2002-01-07

Even though Nintendo Power will no longer sell the Pokemon comics any more, I'm going to love this volume just like you told me. They contain the following:

"The Fire-ring Squad". In this episode, it's the Squirtle Squad vs. the Wartortle Squad as they try to put out the fire to see who gets the ultimate prize!

"No Big Woop!". In this episode, a Wooper is missing from the school grounds, and it's up to Ash and the gang to rescue him. However, when Jessie throws the Poke ball at the Wooper, Wooper's body is hard as a rock. Wooper may be small, but he's really tough to beat!

And finally, "Tunnel Vision". In this episode, Ash and the gang encounter an impassible tunnel. This means that they need some light to get through that difficult tunnel. Maybe Cyndaquil can help, because the flame on his back can help our heroes out.

Now, thank you all once again on your cooperation on what to rank, and good luck to all you Pokemon trainers out there. Just be sure to have a torch ready before you go into that tunnel.
