As the eagerly awaited Cowboy Bebop feature film reunites the original director, screenwriter, composer, and vocal cast, it's not surprising that the film plays like an expanded TV episode. What should be the routine capture of a two-bit hacker by Faye escalates into a deadly game of cat and mouse, as Spike and the gang struggle to prevent the evil Vincent Volaju from murdering every human on Mars. Director Shinichiro Watanabe handles the action sequences with his usual panache. Inside the sinister Cherious Medical research facility, Spike fights a beautiful agent, using a push broom in a series of maneuvers Jackie Chan might envy. The climactic duel between Spike and Vincent plays against innocent yet eerie images of a Halloween carnival, recalling the amusement park setting of episode 20, "Pierrot Le Fou." Knockin' on Heaven's Door will delight fans of the series and provide an excellent introduction for the uninitiated who want to know why Cowboy Bebop is so popular on both sides of the Pacific. (Rated R: violence, brief nudity, minor profanity, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Amazon.com essential video

Each of the snazzy 25-minute installments from the most popular Japanese animated TV series of 1998 is a satisfying adventure tale about a futuristic hipster bounty hunter. This is an elegant action-comedy anime, with smoothly integrated CGI space-flight elements, gorgeous graphics, blues harmonica and sax riffs on the soundtrack, and a no-sweat post-Tarantino attitude. Despite occasional eruptions of gun-fu Asian-action violence, and some intimations of heavy-duty drug use (in the first of 26 episodes, one especially noxious narcotic is administered as an aerosol spray straight onto the user's eyeballs), the tone is surprisingly convivial. None of the generic tough elements are grim or mean-spirited. Lanky antihero Spike Spiegel is a planet-hopping freelance hunter with an ex-cop sidekick named Jet, a loopy fellow hunter named Faye, a teenage computer hack, and a genetically enhanced Welsh corgi assistant in tow. The emphasis is on clever twists of plot in an episodic short-story format with as many wisecracks as punches being thrown. --David Chute

I got it right on time. The dvd's where not opened (new set) I would buy from this guy any time.

5 out of 5 stars A great show that is almost impossible to get legitimately.......2007-06-05

Ok, so Cowboy Bebop is a great show. Here's the deal. The sellers who are selling this new are selling you a bootleg. The set simply isn't being manufactured anymore. The real thing has 7 discs all together 6 DVDs, and 1 Audio CD. The sets that sre being sold here (unless they are used and expensive) are usually 3 discs, maybe 4 or 5 if they throw in a copy of the movie, and the soundtrack. So, please be aware of this. I wasn't when I went into this, and wound up with a $50 bootleg.

So, what does that mean for you, the person who wants the show, but doesn't want to sign over their firstborn? Well, the set isn't too bad. The episodes are compressed down to 9 per disc. Some people have complained about the video, or audio. I found it pretty good! If your trying to watch this on your whiz-bang 90 bajillion inch HDTV, then I'm sure you'll notice some artifacting, and things like that. But then you can probably afford to shell out a minimum of $125 (or $350 for the legitimate Perfect Sessions) for a 26 episode TV show. For the rest of you the video is of suprising quality as is the audio. The languages, and subtitles are intact.

I'll admit that I am somewhat morally conflicted over this. The people who created the show deserve to be compensated for it. But I feel that I paid a fair price ($49, when it's as cheap as $25) and that if Bandai was REALLY that interested in milking a few more bucks out of me they'd make a less expensive set. Just be sure that you get the FX copy, and you'll be ok.

5 out of 5 stars Put Your Fears to Rest, This DVD set is Amazing!.......2007-05-29

If you've been looking at the price suspiciously as I did, and you've read the reviews here and there about these being shoddy bootlegs, put your fears to rest. Sure these may be made by some pis-ant company in China, but the quality is fine, great even. This is an incredible deal, the ENTIRE series starting at about $25! (I don't use exclamation points lightly). In your copy there might be a discruntled pixle in an episode or two, but for the price I think that is well worth the risk. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how great this series is, the real concern is about the quality of the DVD's themselves. They're awsome.

5 out of 5 stars oh yeah baby, yeah1!!.......2007-05-21

oh, im so excited. i love cowboy bebop!! three discs, great quality, but I dont think that subtitles can be turned off. Comes in english, japanese with english subs, english with japanese subs. Nothing wrong here, perfect, loved it, great series, lots of shoot em up and great story line. Get it!!

5 out of 5 stars Limited Edition is not in print - beware of cheap 3 disc set.......2007-04-18

First of all, Cowboy Bebop is an amazing collection of animation. The stories and characters are very involving. I originally caught an episode on Adult Swim and was hooked, so I had to get the whole set.

Cowboy Bebop has been released on DVD in many different versions. Beware or you will not get what you expect. The original series was first released on 6 individual discs. These are available used. Later, The Perfect Sessions 6 DVD boxed set was released in limited quantities at an MSRP of $250. Each box is numbered. These are no longer available for sale except on auction sites. Cowboy Bebop Remix is the a 6 DVD set containing a Dolby surround remix of the original audio.

A cheaper, 3 disc set was created and released in Asia. This is the set you find commonly offered for sale for $20 or less. Compressing 6 DVDs worth of material onto 3 discs involves large amounts of compression so many people are disappointed when they pay $20 and expect a $250 set. You get what you pay for! If you want quality, spring for the 6 DVD set.

4 out of 5 stars Makes me crave more Bebop.......2007-06-23

Why was this show ended is probably a question millions of people wondered. Cowboy Bebop the Movie brings back the original cast with the same goal. Complete a bounty and collect that cash. This time their bounty is worth 300 million woolongs. Their target however, couldn't be anymore formidable. Its a man who possesses the expertise to kill the entire planet by spreading a virus with no cure. The movie contains all the elements that makes the series so great. Excellent soundtrack, good animation, action, and comedy. The only down side is in the beginning the movie really drags and takes a while to pick up. When it does gets going it can be pretty entertaining.

If your new to Bebop then you should checkout the series. It contains all the character development and background on how they all met. The movie doesn't contain any of that. So someone new would definitly feel the character development is lacking. Checkout the series first simply because its really good. Cowboy Bebop isn't considered a classic for nothing.

4 out of 5 stars Leaves you wanting more.......2007-05-17

The series had been recommended to me by a fan. Since I am over 40, there is only so much young viewer targeted anime that I can stand. So, since I enjoyed the series very much I thought I would try out the movie.

I was a little disappointed that it took so long to get moving. I think the first half hour or so is a bit slow, but hang in there. It does finally pick up the pace and stays at that "bebop" flow for the rest of the movie. It is most enjoyable. The English Dub is good, and I am a fan of Steven Blum's. However, I do like to also listen to the Japanese and do the subtitle thing since my Japanese comprehension is 1 word in ever 200. I haven't had a chance to do that with this yet.

So, I heartily recommend this movie for the adult viewer whether or not you like anime. Hey, who isn't interested in a terrorist plot to wipe out humans and the lowly underdog who tries to undo it?

4 out of 5 stars perfect! except........2007-05-13

you said it was unrated, but it was actually rated 'R'. but besides that, the movie was amazing! i didn't think it was as good as the series, but i still thought it was an epic, kick-butt movie that every anime/Cowboy Bepop lover should watch.

5 out of 5 stars Bebop - an extended episode.......2007-05-10

I fell in love with this series when it first aired in the US. The movie is just as enjoyable... the movie is like an extended episode from the series. Buy it; and enjoy it many times.

5 out of 5 stars Cowboy Bebop - don't let the title fool you.......2007-03-20

One of the best all-around animes I've seen. The art is excellent and the story is better developed than the average. A good addition to any collection.

5 out of 5 stars YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.......2007-04-13

This DVD is fantastic! Cowboy Bebop is inspiring thousands today with it's quirky stories and awesome characters. Spike still is amazing. The intro of Faye is well done. The japanese version is fantastic (Still love Megumi Hayashiabira), and the english version copies it's greatness almost word for word. (Not to mention it's packed with special features.)

5 out of 5 stars Viewing Sequence.......2007-03-16

About the Remix, I think the picture quality is better. Nothing monumental but better nontheless. Plus, it's not like the original DVDs are really available anymore anyways. I can sympathize with those who have invested in the originals, but for those of you who haven't gotten this series yet it's your lucky day.

There's nothing else I can really say about this anime that the other reviewers haven't already. It's simply awesome. If you haven't gotten into it yet, go for it.

My main two cents involves the sequence of how you watch this series. I watched it all on Adult Swim before actually purchasing the DVDs. And I didn't always have time to watch each night, so I didn't have a linear viewing experience. I found this to actually be a good thing. I dont want to reveal any spoilers, so I'll say simply that my opinion on getting the most fulfilling experience is to watch the first 5 DVDs straight through. But after that, watch the movie. THEN go on to the 6th DVD. You'll understand why once you've gotten there.

You won't necessarily have any less great of an experience if you decide not to do this. But after having been able to do it this way myself, I can't really imagine it any other way.

4 out of 5 stars I'm reviewing the product I selected!.......2006-02-26

And I must say...it's a show that is well worth the $$. An exceptional story and some of the best animation that I've ever seen!

Here's the only reason why we go from 5 to 4 stars. Bless there hearts, the writing from overseas just doesn't have the same appeal to me as shows and television from the states. They tend to be disjointed and take too many things for granted. I live for the day that someone doesn't just adapt an overseas anime but in fact writes it and then recruits an animation team.

That would be a five star animated series!

5 out of 5 stars Even better.......2006-02-08

Cowboy Bebop remains a masterpiece of anime. The 5.1 mix only adds to the effect. The space battles take on a life of their own as you hear rockets screaming past you, you will want to duck as you think the Bebop is flying overhead and feel like you are in the middle of a firefight as the bullets go whizzing by. It only makes a good show better and that is worth paying for.

Does anyone else have horrible sound quality on their Remix #1 disk ? I thought this was supposed to be a remix for better sound and I hear all kinds of screaching and poping on the audio on the disk I bought.

Cowboy Bebop is great (as i said b4 in the first review), and i couldn't help getting no.2. So far it surpasses the first. THe best episode is definitly "Ballad of the Fallen Angels" which may well be the best ever, and Ed's episode is great too. SF is ok, but the first was better.

high fives world wide.

5 out of 5 stars REMIX-VIDEO QUALITY.......2005-12-07

This is (also) a review of the REMIX VERSIONS. I won't go into the awesomeness of Cowboy Bebop other than to say that it is the best anime series ever, I'd even call it one of the best television shows ever!

While it has been universally noted on various postings about the remix versions that the sound is significantly better than the original sessions, there are multiple varying reviews on the PICTURE QUALITY. Some say there is no difference at all, some say it's a bit better, some say it's a lot better, all say they have "checked" both versions. Well, I took it a step further. I watched both versions side by side on an Avid Nitris Professional video editing system with high definition high resolution (HDHR) monitors and here is the DEFINITIVE ANSWER. There is a difference, they lightened it and did a very slight color correction. Basically, the old versions were a bit dark and some of the detail went unnoticed while the remix versions are lighter and there is more visible detail and color. In terms of viewing expeirience this means that a majority of the scenes look noticibly (if marginally) better. There are certain scenes, however, where the lightness works against it. Some of the more noirish scenes look a bit bleedy. Overall I would say that there is a difference in video quality and that the difference is mostly an improvement. But, even to the die hard fan the difference is negligible.

If you don't own the originals, if they're scratched, if you're a huge fan, if you have an awesome theatre system with good surround, or if you have a crappy small tv and can't see the detail in the image, GET THE REMIX. If not, while they are cool, they're not worth the $30 a pop.

5 out of 5 stars DO WE EVER CATCH ANYONE?.......2005-11-26

The 5.1 remastering of this classic and iconic series continues. The sound is great, but the picture pretty much looks the same as the original release so there's no sense in investing in the remixes unless you have a home theater system. Spike, Jet, and the ever curvaceous Faye Valentine are up to their ears in trouble in these 5 episodes. First off, Spike investigates a bounty who has been killed by a wheel-chair bound vegetable and the mysterious harmonica playing child who seems to be his nurse. In "Heavy Metal Queen" composer Yoko Kanno ratchets up the 80s hair band rock as the Bebop crew gets help from a muscular space trucker woman who hates cowboys and whose affinities for music go back a couple of hundred years. "Waltz for Venus" is probably the weakest of the episodes because it features a sniveling loser who wants to be just like Spike when he grows up....actually, he's already grown. Get a life. Radical Edward, hacker genius, joins the crew in the ninth episode, and it's about time. She's been following the exploits of the crew for some time, or rather their failures, and she offers her services when the crew encounters a sentient defense satellite involved in illegal activities. The last episode centers on Jet as he pays a call on an old girlfriend trying to run from her debts to some very bad people.

Bebop is one of the greatest sci-fi series, bar none, and goes beyond the realms of anime. I would say it even leaves Star Wars in the dirt! The realism of the characters is what gives it charm. They can be pushy, lazy, brave, cowardly, and caring for each other (even though they won't admit it). What series wouldn't be funny when the dog, Ein, is really the smartest one of the whole crew. Even though he can't talk, some of his reaction shots are hilarious in a Charlie Chaplin sort of way. The dub on this show is the greatest and outstrips the Japanese track hands down. I NEVER listen to English dubs, EXCEPT for Bebop. Once again, the music of Yoko Kanno blends in with the animation and shows why she is the greatest living composer of music on the planet! This is the perfect show to introduce any reluctant friends to the world of anime.

The only extra here is a boring episode commentary by the English voice actor of Faye and an ADR producer. Dull stuff.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I WANT MY MEMORIES BACK.......2006-05-04

Faye Valentine is one of the most mysterious occupants of the Bebop...actually everyone is pretty mysterious because you never get their entire pasts laid out. But that's ok. It's like real life. How many people do you know everything about? Nobody really wants to listen to her story so she's relegated to telling Ein about her past....and even he doesn't want to hear it! We do find out why she has such a humungous debt. Jet takes center stage in the second episode, "Black Dog Serenade", in which his old partner enlists his help in nabbing the bounty of an escaped convict who just happens to be the guy that caused Jet to lose his arm. "Mushroom Samba" continues the spotlight episodes with Ed and Ein being the stars. After the Bebop is a hit and run victim of another ship, it crashlands in the middle of a desert. Ed and Ein venture out to find food for the famished crew and find themselves in the middle of a 70s blaxploitation film setting! Lastly, a strange package is sent to Faye COD so she thinks her creditors have found her again. In typical Faye fashion, she goes on the lam. Jet and Spike discover that the package is a beta videotape but the only way they'll be able to play such an ancient artifact is to find a player on devastated Earth!

The thing that has always made Bebop great is its characters and the spotlight of these episodes is to bring them to the forefront. Instead of Faye coming off as the icelady vamp, after we learn a bit about her past, we can recognize that a part of her heart will always be tinged with sadness. For, you see, she has no memory of her past. She has no memory of her family. She doesn't even know her real name. So unless she gets some help, she'll be doomed to never know her true self. Ein and Ed are the total opposite of Faye. They don't seem to have a past and I doubt this troubles them at all. I think Ed would be fine locked in a prison cell for life if she only had a computer in front of her. "Mushroom Samba" is a miracle of motion, even today, and really brings across the kinetic nature of Ed and is an amusing Japanese take on black films like "Shaft".

5 out of 5 stars CRAZY KILLERS AND CRAZY COWBOYS.......2006-06-04

I have to say that this is probably the weakest volume of Cowboy Bebop Remix so far, at least as far as the writing goes. The animation and direction by Shinichiro Watanabe is spot on as usual, but the writing seem to be running out of steam. But still, Cowboy Bebop on a bad day is better than 90% of other anime on a good day!

The first episode follows two storylines as Spike tries to get his Swordfish fixed by an oldtimer mechanic after crashlanding on Earth. Jet and Faye meanwhile are trying to track down some bounties who infect spacecraft with a computer virus and then rob them. Episode 20 is by far the best installment here. Spike happens upon the scene of a killing by the assassin "Mad Pierrot", a cackling creepy psychotic superhuman killer, who murders anyone that sees him at his work, which now includes Spike! You can tell that the staff pulled all the strings on the budget that they could to pay for this awe-inspring 22 minutes of kinetic energy. Things are pretty much downhill from there as Jet receives a mysterious message from an old acquaintance in Episode 21, only to learn that he's dead and someone is trying to nab his young daughter. The episode becomes a bit of a lecture on Feng Shui and becomes boring and trite. "Cowboy Funk" concerns a bored playboy named Andy who wants to be a cowboy, or bounty hunter. He doesn't really have all his marbles, so he takes the term literally, even dressing up like a Wild West cowboy, complete with six shooters and horse! He's such an idiot (Faye says she reminds her of Spike) that he just keeps getting in the way of the Bebop crew capturing the loony "Teddy Bomber", a terrorist who plants explosive Teddy Bears as a protest against society. This episode was ok and I appreciated the humor but it was just a bit over the top for me.

While not the strongest volume in this series, anything Cowboy Bebop is considered classic in my eyes. Bebop is to anime what the Beatles are to music. Innovative, mainstream, pioneering, well-done, classic, and a blueprint for everything after it. I just thought the characters suffered because of the dumb plots in most of these episodes. The 5.1 is worth buying this series over....if you have a 5.1 system. The English dub is THE best dub for a Japanese anime ever. I NEVER listen to English dubs on anime, because this is the only show where the English is actually better than the original Japanese vocal track. This dvd does feature a bonus "episode" entitled "Session #0". Don't worry, this isn't some lost episode. Instead, it is 22 minutes of behind the scenes footage Japanese cast and crew production and interviews along with some music videos set to the anime. This is one of, if not THE greatest shows of all time!

I would also recommend the anime Samurai Champloo.

Cowboy Bebop is a HUDE landmark in anime. The visual quality, the music is awesome, and the whole series is mammoth in scope. It is by far the best I have ever seen as far series go. And this is in ANY TYPE of show.

The new sound is great in 5.1, and it makes you feel as if you were really there..

This review will be short as far as mine usually go and that is because, everything said, characters, story, ingenuity, creativity, everything about the show can be summed up into one word sentence.

THE BEST EVER MADE.

5 out of 5 stars BUG HUNT.......2006-04-16

A strange amorphous blob is hunting the crew of the Bebop through the dark and spooky confines of their ship, taking them down one by one, first Jet, then Faye...even Ein has gotten attacked and been immobilized by the creature's poison! With no sign of Ed, Spike has to take it upon himself to kill the monster in this funny but suspenseful send-up of the first Alien movie. The next two-part episode starts with the crew (minus Faye, who has jumped ship, taking all their money with her) intercepting a message from a woman named "Julia" who Spike has an intense interest in catching up with. He takes off in his fighter as Jet goes down to the planet to find Faye. They unintentionally stumble into a drug deal involving Spike's nemesis Vicious. The last episode "Bohemian Rhapsody" involves a hacker that is using the Gate systems which ships use to move around the galaxy to steal millions from electronic bank accounts. Our bounty hunters, with Edward in the lead, attempt to track down the elusive mastermind of the scheme.

What's to complain about when it comes to Bebop? The cinematic feel and lack of static action shots with moving backgrounds set this show way apart from other anime. Even watching it 8 years after it was produced, it still shines! You get a little more background on Spike and Vicious in the Jazz episodes but you still feel as though there are unspoken volumes about these characters. The lack of bug-eyed typical anime characters also makes this show appeal to more adult audiences and even non-anime lovers. The humor and the director's passion for films in general really comes through, and the experience is even better in the new 5.1 remix. The only extra on the disk is an interview with Cartoon Network Producer Sean Akins.

Director Shinichiro Watanabe and writer Keiko Nobumoto continue to explore the pasts of the main characters in this gritty, outer-space Western. In "My Funny Valentine," Faye confronts a two-bit confidence man and discovers that her background is as much of a mystery to her as it is to everyone else. "Black Dog Serenade" reunites Jet Black with his former partner at the ISSP (Inter Solar System Police) against Udai Taxim, the criminal whose attack cost Jet his left arm. This dark, violent tale of betrayal, discovery, and revenge offers both surprises and insights. In the silly "Mushroom Samba," the Bebop is out of fuel, and everyone's broke and hungry. Ed goes off to search for something to eat, and gets involved in the pursuit of a seedy mushroom dealer. "Speak Like a Child" showcases the sardonic humor that has won Cowboy Bebop fans on both sides of the Pacific. A mysterious package arrives C.O.D. for Faye that contains an ancient artifact--a Beta videocassette! Spike and Jet ransack a ruined museum on Earth to find a player; when they finally view the tape, they see a young girl cheering her future self, a girl who looks curiously like Faye...

5 out of 5 stars In the Background.......2007-01-05

Personally, Cowboy Bebop is both my first watched and overall favorite anime. The show's themes and storylines encompass nearly every genre and style with a masterful grace. Perhaps the most impressive feature is the original soundtrack, composed by Yoko Kanno - her talent is fully explored and displayed throughout the entire series.
My Funny Valentine gives to us a closer look at who Faye really is - or rather, how she came to be who she is. Speak Like A Child continues her unveiling in a more mild tone - including the rest of the Bebop Crew on her journey.
Black Dog Serenade finds Jet Black dealing with issues of his own - a call from his old partner [police] leaves him staring reluctantly at his cybernetic arm. With a hat and music reminiscent of Dick Tracey-style, Jet goes alone to find his own version of closure.
Mushroom Samba is all about Ed! This episode, with it's relaxed and amusing mood, earned a spot on the compilation "Cowboy Bebop - Best Sessions". Perhaps Ed's value to the Bebop is not solely in her computer genius.
"Where's Spike?" you ask? Conversing with a talking toad climbing the infinite stairway to heaven.
After experiencing Cowboy Bebop you will want to see all it has to offer - though if not yet an otaku [Japanese term describing one who loves anime], be forewarned - you will be unlikely to find any more impressive than Cowboy Bebop.

5 out of 5 stars Life is but a dream..........2003-02-13

You have to respect a director Shinichiro Watanabe for refusing to turn out a vanilla 'rogues in space' series. A bit like Joss Whedon, he lulls the viewer into a comfort zone and then gives the rug a firm yank. Suddenly wide-eyed we are replaying the episode trying to see how it was done. Sometimes the stories are poignant, sometimes they are tough, and sometimes they are hysterically funny, but they are never dull and repetitious.

As you will see, all the characters have pasts that keep replaying. Both Faye and Jet get their opportunities on this DVD. Our lady of dubious ethics shares hers (her story, not her ethics) with Ein the data dog. Life, for Faye, is both longer, and shorter, than you might think. Then Jet finds himself back in the middle of a case he thought was closed. We discover that one reason he lost his arm is that he never lets go.

Then, leaving the starving Bebop to find food, Ed suddenly turns into a master bounty hunter in a quest for a lunch where one side unexpectedly makes you small. The last episode is the one that completely sideswipes the viewer. Bits of Faye's history keep showing up COD. When an old Beta video tape shows up Jet and Spike go on a snipe hunt that produces an instant replay. Am I being evasive? Yes. You will appreciate why.

There is simply nothing here to dislike. If the series never got any better it is already one of the best I have seen. Of course, I have a suspicion that Watanabe has a few more tricks up his sleeve before the series comes to an end.

5 out of 5 stars A must see!.......2002-11-10

This is one of the best(possibly even the best) animes ever made! Every anime fanatic really should see this! I highly reccomend DVD 4! The funniest episode is Mushroom Samba!

5 out of 5 stars A set of episodes that shows why we like "Cowboy Bebop"!.......2002-07-29

At this point in the outstanding series known as "Cowboy Bebop", I'm sure the creators had decided that it was time to take the spotlight off Spike for a moment and let the viewers get to know the other three main characters Jet, Faye, and Ed (four if you count Ein). After the wonderful two-part "Jupiter Jazz", which dug a little deeper into Spike's past, it's now time for us to see exactly who the other crewmembers of the Bebop are and what secrets they possess.

Of all the other crewmembers, Session 4 concentrates more on the beautiful yet independent Faye Valentine, using two episodes to show us that while she has good looks and a way of getting what she wants, she doesn't have any memories of her past. While "My Funny Valentine" reveals a little bit about Faye's past, "Speak Like A Child" truly conveys how emotional it can be to be severed from something you once owned and lost due to forces out of your control. The other two episodes focus on Jet Black and Edward. "Blackdog Serenade" shows a dark moment in Jet's past and a shocking revelation along the way. "Mushroom Samba", while not a flashback episode, shows us why many people have fallen in love with Edward with the episode's unique and often ridiculous yet undeniably hilarious story.

Like before, "Cowboy Bebop" shows off its unique charm that only it can pull off. Character development is in abundance in Session 4, and yet it never gets boring or overdone; we care for the characters, we want them to succeed. And mixed in with blood-boiling action and over-the-top humor, the series has yet to fall from the grace it has built for itself.

Everything technical about the series still remains as perfect as before. The animation is as slick as ever, and Yoko Kanno's excellent music refuses to offer any signs of getting old. To top it off, the dub remains one of the best in the industry, making the anime accessible to all who refuse to watch the Japanse track.

All in all, Session 4 leaves its own mark on the stylish anime series and maintains the level of quality we've come to expect. There's not a single dull episode in the series thus far, and thanks to the wonderful story direction we cannot help but move on and see what new adventures await the crew of the Bebop. To anime fans and action fans in general, "Cowboy Bebop" is and remains a must-see.

5 out of 5 stars Mushroom Hunting!.......2002-06-05

I am really begining to repeat myself. This is another wonderful addition to the Bebop DVDs.

Episode 15:My Funny Valentine: An episode that many fans of Bebop have been waiting for. We finally get to know a bit about Faye's past I am not going to go into this episode because. The viewer needs to experience it for themselves.

Episode 16: This is one of the most brurtal episodes in the Cowboy Bebop series. The viewer finally finds out what happened to Jet's arm. We are also introduced to a character Named Udai Takim. A cold-hearted assassin from Jet's past. Takim is probably one of my favorite minor characters in the series. His character design is awesome, and the pure skill he shows in battle is brilliant. We also meet Jet's old partnet, Fad.

Episode 17: Very funny episode. The Bebop gang has run out of food, and after a hit and run accident they land on a desert planet. Ed is sent out to find some food and runs into a man named Domino. When a man shows up, threatening Domino, because the man's brother died eatting a mushroom he purchased form Domino. Domino runs away, dropping a few mushrooms. Ed takes these back to the Bebop, and the crew eats them, and very strange things take place. Bonsai telling the secrets of the universe, Fish in the bathroom, and a frog warning Spike that he is on the Stairway to Heaven. Must be seen to appreciate.

Episode 18: The problems start when a package arrives at the Bebop. When confronted by the package, Faye runs away, think that it might be something from the collection agency. Of course Spike opens the package, and inside is a beta tape. An interesting episode. We get to see a 20th century media otaku, and we also learn more about Faye's past, or do we really we actually only see a bit of her past, but there are no answers for Faye of the Viewer.

Great DVD check it out.

The popular anime series Cowboy Bebop is one of the few Blade Runner spin-offs that pays off big dividends. The Cowboy Beboppers are free-spirited bounty hunters who roam the solar system looking for criminals. Told in 25-minute episodes, this very different anime series has the stuff many shows lack: a strong vision, intriguing plots, and tantalizing back-stories. In this second session (episodes 6-10), we begin to learn some of the history of our hero, Spike, his right-hand man, Jet, and even the gloomy story behind the fate of the charred Earth. Episodes include a run-in with a deadly child prodigy, a trucker tale, a curious trip to the terraformed Venus, where a loner seeks to learn from Spike. There's also a tale of Jet's old flame, and the introduction of the crew's latest member--a computer hacker named Ed. Gorgeously drawn and fueled by cool music--often counterpointing the action--Cowboy Bebop is too good (and accessible) for just anime fans. (Ages 12 and older) --Doug Thomas

Description

Contains episodes 6-10 of the television series - five full episodes! Spike and Vicious conclude their reunion with a deadly duel. And after that, more mayhem and hilarity await as the crew of the Bebop continues to try and make a living as bounty hunters. As they travel, they will meet up with a feisty space trucker, make a stop on Venus, and meet up with the great hacker Ed.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Just great story-line and production.......2006-03-16

This is perhaps one of my favorite Asian exports. The second session has such strong episodes, outlining things to come and bringing depth to some of the side characters. I think that the best part of a story is giving you things to relate to and these storys are full of that.

With plot twists, foreshadowing, and a new character, you can't go wrong. Pick up the fist session and continue with this one. You won't be sorry you did.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the Hype.......2004-10-15

Cowboy Bebop has a reputation as one of the best animes out there. Thankfully for everyone, it lives up to that reputation. In Session 2 more of the permanent cast is added and there's plenty of action.

In Sympathy for the Devil, Spike has a run in with a creepy kid who seems to have some serious things wrong with him. This episode is a mystery and what would be considered a typical episode of Bebop at its finest.

Heavy Metal Queen is a sweet and adventurous piece with Spike and Faye trying to capture a bounty all while Spike has a hangover. There are some funny moments in this one and some memorable minor characters.

Waltz For Venus is a beautiful story of family and the sacrifices a person will make for that. It also has a thing or two to say about what we consider "bad" and "good" and the reasoning behind both.

Jamming With Edward adds the irrepressible Ed to the crew of the Bebop. While trying to find out why a satellite has gone rogue, the galaxy's greatest computer hacker has a run in with Spike and crew.

Ganymede Elegy is a Jet centric episode where he deals with a woman from his past. It ties up some loose ends with Jet and gives him a background.

Cowboy Bebop is at heart about dealing with one's past and the mistakes that have been made. That theme resonates soundly through all these episodes.

5 out of 5 stars Cowboy Bebop's The Best Series on TV.......2004-04-25

The second session of the CB series has many merits, and only one slight stinker of an episode. I'm fair and honest in my reviews, meaning that if something sucks, I'll say so (and have quite a few times).

6: Sympathy for the Devil: The best non-Spike oriented episode of Bebop, great plot and reflections of human nature.

7: Heavy Metal Queen: Yoko Kanno shows exactly how much talent she has with this episode, making a perfect parady of an 80's heavy metal tune (very cool). Otherwise, a normal (of course good) episode.

8: Waltz for Venus: I don't really know what to say about this episode. It's awesome, but I can't really say why. Take a look and you tell me.

9: Jamming with Edward: Ed-isode, where the little girl hacker is introed. Since I hate Ed (but realize that she's sometimes needed for comic relief), I'm not a real good judge of this episode.

10: Ganymede Elegy: Jet-isode, the first of few, where the crew goes to Ganymede to turn in a bounty, and Jet must deal with his past (has and interesting foreshadowing of when Spike must deal with his past, at the end of the series)

The extras on this DVD are good, because you get to see the creator's and Yoko Kanno's (songwriter/composer) interviews. It's a little wierd, though. In Japan, they like to have just the interviewee's face filling the entire screen (my friend and I were once making fun like one of said interviewees would get the up-the-nose cam).

5 out of 5 stars "Hyperspace is the black line between the frames".......2003-01-28

This seconds CD presents more of what made the first collection a hit. Fast-paced plots full of space battles, fights, and dirty dealing. Faye has moved into the Bebop and with three people and a Corgi to feed, the can du jour is usually dog food. With Faye's exotic tastes the crew again get deep in situations that a sane bounty hunter would never touch. Ninety-year-old pre-adolescents who play a mean harp, mysterious lady truck drivers, and hackers from hell set the pace. As usual, the Bebop may get the guy, but more often than not, they don't get the reward.

Jet Black, in an introduction to episode #8 describes this story of a bad guy who almost makes it back to good as a 'change of pace.' The truth is that one can say the same thing for all the episodes. The overall themes are still light, although several times stronger, more emotional contexts come into play. The apparent villains are often not the real villains, and the little character insights probe deeper than before. Especially in Jet Black's case.

Episode #9 introduces Radical Edward - 'Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky the fourth' who is a change of pace all by herself. Ed is a 13-year-old super hacker who decides that the Bebop is her key to exciting adventure. When Spike, Jet, and Faye come into Earth on what they think is a vacation, the get hooked into tracking down the hacker who used a battery of space lasers to indulge in a bit of terrestrial finger-painting. This gets them all tangles up with Ed, and, to quote the crazy woman with the remote control, 'Ooh La La!!'

In an on-disk interview, Director Shonichiro Watanabe states that the overall theme of the series will be Spike's past or karma. Other than the final episode of the previous session, we have seen very little about his history. Typically macho, neither Spike nor Jet display much emotion or talk about themselves, and all Faye seems to talk about is what she wants. This will begin to change in later episodes, but for now the watcher can relax and enjoy the hopped up, jazzy scripts.
