The Best of The Best.......2007-06-20
I purchased this DVD three years ago and, although I own many yoga DVDs, "Power Yoga: Total Body Workout" and "Total Energy Yoga," another Yee DVD, are the ones to which I keep returning. "Power Yoga" is, as advertised, an excellent, total body workout -- albeit not one for beginners -- with just the right amount of instruction and no irritating "pep talks" or celebrity prattling: in other words, real yoga.
Most positions are held for 30 seconds, although a few are held for shorter periods of time and one --upward bow -- is repeated three times in a row. Sufficient time is permitted for transfer from one position to the next, even if, in the beginning, a practitioner cannot maintain the "flow" and needs to walk from one position to another. In my view, Yee is, along with Shiva Rea, the best yoga instructor making DVDs, and "Power Yoga" is his best DVD, overall.
One additional note: Recently, I have been employing this yoga practice and Yee's "Total Energy Yoga" along with physical therapy to treat a "frozen shoulder". My physical therapist is impressed by the progress that I have made using these yoga DVDs. While I would never suggest that anyone -- especially someone with an injury -- try an exercise DVD without first consulting his or her doctor, I have to say that yoga and, specifically, Rodney Yee, has worked for me.
excellent workout.......2007-06-13
This is a great yoga workout. It's quite strenuous, and I'd recommend it for advanced beginners or intermediate yoga practitioners. The set is beautiful and the cues are perfect. If you just started yoga, I wouldn't recommend starting with this dvd, but if you are already fairly fit and familiar with yoga, this is a great choice.

Easy to follow, wonderful techniques, and spectular aiding in body tension. I also enjoy the muscle building the video provides. I has been only a few weeks and I already see and feel the differance. Thank You Rodney!! ;)
Awesome DVD, great challenges.......2007-06-07
This DVD is great. It pushes you and yet allows you to make modifications were necessary. It is an hour long and really makes you sweat if you push yourself deep into the poses. Clear visuals and great instruction. I love this DVD and if I end up skipping my gym workout this is the first DVD I grab at home. WONDERFUL!

Intense!.......2007-06-05
This is an intense, long workout that is "do-able", but be prepared! I am a beginner but practice everyday with Rodney Yee's AM/PM Yoga for Beginners (love that DVD!) and other DVDs and am working my way up to intermediate level. I try to do the more intense and time consuming Yoga a few times a week, when I can fit it into my schedule. Because this one is the longest of my videos, I don't get to do it too much since there never seems to be enough time in the day. I also like to hold the stretches a little more than is allowed in this video. I affectionately refer to this DVD as the "boot camp/drill sergeant" workout because its a constant stream of instructions and movement. This is a good video for someone who is looking for more of an actual workout and not so much of the relaxation and long hold periods of stretches. Is one of the only workouts that makes me sweat!

This is one of the best exercise DVD workouts I have every used. The instructions are clear and precise. Also, the exercises are simple but very, very effective. I highly recommend it!
Good Basic Workout: Accompanies PBS Shows and Roizen Books.......2007-06-11
I was happy to see this workout DVD, which is a callisthenics, yoga and pilates combo. The beginner version is low to no impact with static holds and stretches. I use it as a warm-up for more strenuous stuff. The basic is not cardio and will not burn calories, but it's a good morning/evening or preliminary routine with good instruction and nothing annoying -- except for the caveat below. It pretty much hits all the muscle groups.
All three workouts seem to last 20 min, which makes them efficient. The advanced one moves faster and therefore is more challenging and does provide some cardio. As a woman, I appreciate the emphasis on shoulders and chest, which is where I am weak. Most exercise stuff geared toward women works our fat zones, which is good. But this one rounds things out, IMHO.
ONE CAVEAT: The instructor, Joel Harper, doesn't always have good form in the lower half of his body. He isn't as stretched as he should be. It bothers me that his legs are always slightly bent, even when they should be straight. He does not have one continuous line from hip through knee through foot, which often dangles rather than being flexed, pointed or facing forward as is common in yoga. He isn't be a good role model for lower body work or for full stretches and extensions that pull along the hamstrings. But hopefully better informed users of the tape know that and improve on the teacher's form.;-)
Amazon's price is excellent. However, you can also find all three workouts online for free (legitimately) and can access it as a Podcast for listening on your own or viewing with Quicktime from your computer. Apparently you can also see it on a Photo iPod.
You Workout DVD Does Not Work Properly.......2007-06-08
I beleive the workout DVD would be excellent; however, the DVD, brand new out of the box skipped and jumped and the sound quality was extremely poor. It was not my DVD player because I tried it in several players including my laptop, all with very poor sound and visual quality. I would have enjoyed this DVD in addition to the manual I purchased had it worked properly. I need to make arrangements for a return, but I haven't had the time to package the item for return.
Fun Walking Workouts.......2007-06-08
This is a two CD workout. Each CD contains a 1/2 hour walking workout with periodic fitness tips given by Michael or Joel (can't remember which one), followed by a nice stretch (which I found a little difficult to do while wearing my CD player pouch), and then it is followed by the same 1/2 hour walking workout with no talking--so each CD actually has two 1/2 hour workouts, with a stretch in between. Both workouts have no singing--it's all music. They are both nicely paced--even the beginner workout gets you up to a nice pace rather quickly. The advanced CD has great music (at least, if you are a baby boomer, like me), but I enjoyed both of them. I am an advanced exerciser, used to walking in the morning almost every day for 30-60 minutes, and then doing a workout tape at night. SO--I don't know why, but I really enjoy doing this workout--even though the tips sometimes are a little corny--I still found the music fun and the workout very doable.

Doctors Oz and Roizen know us. They know we are normal people who need to make some healthy changes to live better. This workout doesn't require a new outfit, special equipment, or an already fit body. This DVD is very user friendly, creates a comfortable atmosphere, and really shows results in a couple weeks!

I used to run 10k a day.......2007-06-17
I used to be a very active athlete..running, basketball, gymnastics...you name it. A couple of months ago I graduated college and moved out to a tiny apartment in a big city with my boyfriend and needed to find a way to workout without paying big bucks for a gym and without running in the dangerous area I live in.
This was the answer. I consider myself in great shape, and was very skeptical about girly workout videos. Since I started this video my flexibility improved greatly, I've become more defined, and my balance has improved. I never weigh myself, but if you eat your greens and use this workout tape, you will lose fat. Also, I'm very muscular and was worried about getting "big," and this doesn't do that at all.
I was also very concerned about how cheesy this was going to be. I didn't want to look like an idiot working out in front of my boyfriend, and you really don't do anything ridiculous, like some of the dance cardio stuff out there. In fact, sometimes he jumps in and tries to keep up.
My suggestion: do the 40 minute workout every other day, and use Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip (disk 2) every other day. Results are amazing.
Not perfect, but I like it anyway..........2007-06-17
This is a tough DVD to get into. You must be fast and coordinated. Denise combines 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of interval training (cardio and weight training combined), and 10 minutes of flexibility stretches. Some of the moves are tricky and unpredictable, and some are hard to do, like the backward leg lunges, but keep moving. That's what's important. This workout will really make you sweat a lot. But I like that because that what's needed to lose weight. I do all 3 workouts at a time and feel very accomplished afterward. I highly recommend this DVD.
Great Workout.......2007-06-12
I just got this DVD and I think is a great cardio workout. The first day that I did it made me sweat in the first 10 minutes and once or twice I stop for seconds to take a sip of water, my heart was right to the roof; even thoug I run 3 to 5 times a week for 50 minutes. So, right know I'm doing this DVD 3 times a week and this will be my second week and still is challenging. I defenely recomend this DVD for an intermediate/advanced level not for beginners. It is a great Workout!!!

Fat burning machine!.......2007-06-10
I love this dvd! I have Taebo and Pilates, but this is the only one that I REALLY love. It works so well, and has 2 workouts and a flexibility section so that you don't get bored. You can choose to do one or the other, or do all three for a real fat blasting workout! I did the Cardio section for about 4 non-consecutive days and cheated on my diet, but I still lost 3 1/2 lbs doing this workout. I LOVE IT!
Fun and challenging.......2007-06-09
I am enjoying this DVD very much. Denise keeps you moving through a challenging and dynamic workout. I recommend it for anyone that is fairly fit and wants to get a good aerobic and strenth training workout.

If you have bad knees, beware!!.......2007-06-30
This is a good exercise program and can definitely be used to lose weight and firm up, but if you have bad knees you absolutely do NOT want this video. It is full of deep lunges, squats and jumping jacks. After doing the first program one time, I injured my left knee and was on the couch for a week. Good vibe in the video, though - it's nice seeing the participants struggling as hard as you are to do the exercises. And Bob has a great, fun personality. Just watch out for those knees!!
I love this DVD! Best excerise tape ever!.......2007-06-27
I used to go to the gym all the time before having my first baby. I went on the treadmills and eliptical, but I really loved the strength training classes. Since having my baby, I have no time for the gym. I have a few excerise tapes (Cardio Yogo, Pilates, Abs of Steel, etc.) but I've never really enjoyed them much. I read that this DVD lets you customize your workout and has short (20-25 minute) workouts for strength training, low-intensity, high-intensity, bootcamp and then warm-up and cool-down/stretch. I liked the idea of picking from this menu and working out for 20-25 minutes or longer, depending on how much time I had.
Well --- I love every one of these work-outs. Especially bootcamp. It is difficult but short. They are interval based, so you'll do push-ups or squats or punching for a minute, and then switch. That way, you get to work a different muscle/area when you reach your limit. I have beeen recommending this to everyone. Plus, I love Trainer Bob (he is so funny) and his rapport with the "biggest loser" team. I like that they are real looking people sweating and complaining (a little) instead of barbies in leotards with plastic smiles.
Worked for me.......2007-06-19
I have tried them all, and I really like this DVD. I recognize the people in it and the sessions are short and not intimidating. The exercises are for bigger folks not skinny, perfect hardbodies. It feels more like a realistic workout & plan, and I have been able to stick with it and even look forward to it. Trainer Bob is motivating and it's funny.
Good Workout........2007-06-04
This DVD workout is good. I only gave it 4 starts because I have only dont one workout so far.
I started with the begginer workout. It was a good workout. I was sweating like never before. I cant wait to get to the other workouts.
I like the fact that I could follow along right off the bat. The moves have modified versions incase you need them.
Bob is a nice trainer. He is very encouraging. He is always reminding you to do what you can and to hold in your abs.
I would reccomend this dvd to anyone who wants to start at a good easy pace and work up.
I like the fact that the cast couldnt keep up...I didnt feel like I was alone.
Biggest Loser DVD.......2007-06-01
Love it....gives a great workout with plenty of variety and adjustability to the workout program. Enjoy the show and the opportunity to workout with the cast.

Great, but not for beginners.......2007-07-03
I took this DVD to my Dr. and was told that I should stick with the other DVD, a lower impact DVD. I am going to try to sell it and if that doesn't work, I'm going to try to use it after the pregnancy.
Great workout.......2007-06-27
I've done sports all my life and this DVD really has fit the bill during my third pregnancy. I really like having some ab work incorporated in the workout as any pregnancy stretches those muscles and I hope to minimize the effects of this after the baby is out. The pacing of the workout is really good -- enough so that I generate a light sweat. There aren't ANY strange contortist moves and you can always modify the move (according to the instructor's guidance) so that you can still keeping working out. It's a great workout.
Boring and unbalanced - DON'T BUY THE HYPE!.......2007-06-25
After reading other reviews and ordering this video, I had much higher expectations than what it delivered. The video was boring, short, and heavy on the arm excercises. I did not think the price was anywhere close to being a value for what they spent on production of this (which had to be almost nothing). I have Pilates videos that are similar moves but much more entertaining and a better, more balanced workout. I have taught aerobics before and would never have had such dull music and surroundings for a class. I could only get through it once, and decided if I want a low impact workout at home I'll just use my regular Pilates videos. What a waste of $30!
Great workout for anyone.......2007-06-24
Although I am overweight & 3 months pregnant, I love to do workout videos and thought this one was great. It is not too strenuous yet it gives you a great strengthening workout leaving you feeling stonger and more energized. I do rotate this video with Yoga for Pregnancy, Labor & Birth and feel that I am getting a great workout that will better prepare me for the next 6 months to come.

Unless you have some kind of dance background, this workout is a little tough. Jamie shows you each routine at a slow pace, but steps it up a notch too quick. It takes me a while to catch on and this went way too fast for me.

this dvd is a great work out for beginners and pretty good dancers. after pregnancy, i have not gone to the gym. succumbing to work out videos to get some sort of exercise, i picked up this dvd because i missed hip hop dance class. the moves are not too hard to get, but not so easy that i don't want to do the dvd again. just doing it 4 times earns your money back since dance classes are usually 10 dollars per hour or so. the only thing i did not like is at the end of the dvd jamie breaks down two of the 8 counts he thinks were "hard" but he actually chooses the easier 8 counts to break down. rock your body! rock your body!
A Lot of Fun.......2007-06-08
Finally a Jamie King dance workout I don't have to try and follow along on the Nike website! I liked this workout a lot, and I usually find most cardio hip-hop DVDs lame. It's "organised" like a dance class, with phrases learned at half-time then tempo, a dress rehearsal where you put it all together and then a performance where you run the whole thing through a few times. The choreography is cool, and once you know it you can put a lot more energy into it and have a fun workout. Sometimes they counted off the beat, but it's easy to ignore that if you can count. This isn't high-intensity like a Les Mills dance class, but for a day where you want a steady-state burn, this is a fun workout to try. I hope there'll be more of these down the line, maybe getting progressively harder.

Another review broke down the sections of the DVD very well, so I won't dwell on that.
The workout is hard at first, you will stumble through the moves, and you won't be able to keep up. This is a good thing! It makes the workout more of a challenge and something that I will keep coming back to. Just don't feel down or frustrated if you don't get it at first.
You can tell Jamie's background is dance and not aerobics or fitness, but that's not a bad thing either. It is really helpful if you know how to pickup on the 8 counts.
There is also a Rock Your Body book available that has the same routine that's on the DVD in picutres. This was really helpful the first few times. The book has lots of other great info too, and I would suggest you pick it up
Fun, fun, fun!.......2007-05-22
I bought this DVD after reading that it was Shape magazine's DVD of the month, and I just finished my second time doing it. Overall, it's a great workout that is a lot of fun!
Jamie King leads the workout, and he is accompanied by four back-up dancers. Jaime has a lot of energy, and makes the workout fly by, which is always nice. The workout is broken down into six main sections: a warm-up, rehearsal 1, rehearsal 2, dress rehearsal (where you put the two sections together slowly), the performance (where you put the two sections together more quickly in front of an "audience"), and a cool down.
In each of the two rehearsal sections, Jamie breaks down the choreography and makes it very esay to follow. If you can't get a move, though, a great feature of the DVD is that in several places you can click on a sub-menu and go to the bonus section where Jamie breaks down the move even more slowly.
One of the things that makes this workout so unique is that the workout is done on a stage with a DJ playing music. During the dress rehearsal and performance sections, the dancers and Jamie also change into "costumes" and even do the routine in front of a live audience. It really feels like you're a rock star while doing these sections of the workout!
The DVD also has a bonus strength section and a section where Jamie breaks down the moves in more detail. The first time I did this workout, I couldn't quite keep up with the nuances of the moves, but I can see progress and I can also see that I won't be bored with this DVD in the future.
The last thing I wanted to say is that I was pleasantly surprised about how this workout got my heart rate up. It's true that there are much harder cardio dance workouts out there, but I was definitely breaking a sweat -- and having fun while doing it! Overall, it's a fun, very unique workout!

Working Out at the Playboy Mansion!.......2007-06-27
I have a huge collection of excersize videos and dvds. I really enjoy this workout due to how it is broken up into 3 different 15 minute segments. You can do them all or one or two in conjunction w/ another workout. Two of the workouts are a mix of toning and ab workouts w/ some cardio while the third is pure cardio kickboxing style. It is fun to follow the Playmates and listen to them talk about living at the Mansion while you get a good workout. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good easy to follow workout.

I love this workout DVD! It kicked my butt, my quads still hurt. I was laughing and sweating for the whole thing. It feels real, like your one of their friends and you're just working out together. I was never bored or felt like I wanted to stop the video...which I usually do! I highly recommend this for anyone that needs a good motivater and a good laugh.
Girls Next Door Workout DVD.......2007-05-30
I really liked this workout DVD because it's kind of like watching an episode of the show, which I really enjoy. The only thing I would say (reason why I didn't give it 5 stars) is that there is a little redundancy with Holly and Bridget's workouts. Still great though! I like this workout DVD because I know that I will do it more than once, unlike others I've tried in the past. So, overall - a good workout and I would love to see more workouts in the future from the girls!

I love watching The Girls Next Door and I caught the episode of them making the workout dvd, as soon as it was over I went online and pre-ordered it. I got it today and tried it out. I'm a fit person who works out everyday so I didn't expect too much from it, but hey it's The Girls Next Door so I had to do it. The fifteen minutes with Holly was a nice toning workout to hit some of those difficult places. Then it came to Bridget and man I was sweating like you wouldn't believe by the end of that one. With Kendra, it was an awesome power workout at the end of the dvd. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a good time hitting some key places that everyone wants to look great. Great job Holly, Bridget and Kendra!
Fun workout!.......2007-05-10
After having two kids in two years, my body was a complete mess. I had almost given up, but I was watching our local cable and saw the Girls video sneak peak. I taped it and came back after the kids went down for a nap. By the time I was done with all three workouts (45 min), I was sweating and laughing. I had a great time. Holly talks to you like you are one of her close friends, and Bridgett and Kendra get you completely worn out. It was great! I went for a jog after, and a couple weeks later I can already see results.

Comprehensive but user-friendly, reasonably challenging but accessible to a variety of levels, Yoga Shakti is inarguably one of the best yoga products on the market--no small achievement when one considers just how many of them there are. Instructor-creator Shiva Rea, a California-based yogi of considerable international renown, specializes in vinyasa yoga (a vinyasa is essentially a series of flowing, connected poses, incorporating breath and movement and cultivating heat, strength, flexibility, and balance). Four complete practices are presented, ranging in length from 42 to 85 minutes and including Basic Flow (for beginners), two more vigorous Solar Flow sequences, and a Lunar Flow sequence falling somewhere in the middle in terms of degree of difficulty; familiar poses like sun salutations, forward bends, lunges, twists, and inversions are featured, although Rea adds many of her own touches (such as the four "dancing warrior" sections, sun salutation variations designed for intermediate users and focusing on hips, backbends, and so on), and there are also sections devoted to pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation. It's all good, but the principal innovation of Yoga Shakti is the "yoga matrix," which allows users to customize and program their own workouts, drawing on portions of any or all of the four sequences to create series of various lengths and levels of intricacy (some guidelines are suggested for the less experienced) and thus keep their practices fresh and evolving. One can also do the various workouts with or without the instruction audio track on (the Indian-New Age-flavored music is quite good, and usually unobtrusive), and there's even an entire second disc, containing interviews, additional instruction, travel footage (filming took place primarily in India and the Maldive Islands), and more. Let me start by apologizing for offending the tastes of Shiva Rea fans. I'm not really sure how this review could be SO unhelpful but keep a-voting, I stand by my opinion. This really is a nice concept, I like that you can choose your own workout or follow a set workout. This DVD also has some gorgeous cinematography. The main problem for me is Shiva, I personally don't enjoy her style of teaching at all. The poses she includes in this workout are not ones that I enjoy or find challenging. Another main gripe I have is that when you build your own workout it has poor "flow", and there is a pause for titling between each set section. The meditation at the end is short, and her words are nonsensical and make me want to laugh out loud. I never reach for this DVD and I can't see myself growing to love it. I realize this is a very popular DVD, which is why I purchased it, and that many of you will find my review unhelpful but it's just my honest opinion. I hope it helps someone! :)

I used to do a yoga class and I thought this tape would be fun at home. It is way to fast on all the moves. All it is is a woman on a beach doing yoga with NO instruction on what she's doing. I wish I could return it.

There are four series put together, and multiples you can put together with this new form of programing. The basic is too basic for me, but I love the other choices, particularly the lunar. Don't be in a hurry though, the series are long, and it's up to you to adjust them if you want.

can't ask for much in 10.......2007-06-19
Got this to try something new and wanted to work on my flexability. Good for light days or days you want to focus on abs and stretching. Only thing I really wish is that she would cue better on the breathing. There are parts that she focuses really well on it or makes it very obvious whether you should be inhaling or exhaling, and then there are others that she moves very quickly through and doesn't give quite enough instruction on breathing or the beginner modifications. Overall not bad for what it is. Has potential once I get more aquainted with proper breathing and moves.

I bought this DVD on a whim. I saw it in a store and it looked interesting. The variety is really great. I love that I can set up my own workout if I want to do certain areas one day or do the whole thing if I have the time and energy. For me, there are also some really different exercises and stretches, not the same old stuff I've been doing. I highly recommend it.

I'd give this zero stars if I could. These people giving positive reviews must be professional Pilates instructors or acrobats. Contrary to what someone on here said, this is NOT for beginners or even those that have done Pilates for awhile. I did this once and now I'm going to get rid of it. The instructor is nice and cues very well; you can learn this from the start if you can do all the difficult moves. But I couldn't. I hurt my back, neck, arms, and hands, sweat just a little bit, and felt like I accomplished absolutely nothing except to injure myself. I don't recommend this for anyone unless they're an expert at twisting themselves into impossible positions for long periods of time. Take my advice and stay away from this.

I've never ever done pilates, so I have to say that this was a bumpy start. She goes a little fast, so I recommend that the viewer watch the segment first and then do it. But this being nitpicky. I love the 10 minute solution series because it allows me to customize my workout and I can try new things in small amounts. The instructor is great, and the workouts themselves are productive without being painfully strenuous. The best part is that I can feel the results and I'm not bored!
