Power yoga "demands your attention," says instructor Rodney Yee. I purchased this DVD three years ago and, although I own many yoga DVDs, "Power Yoga: Total Body Workout" and "Total Energy Yoga," another Yee DVD, are the ones to which I keep returning. "Power Yoga" is, as advertised, an excellent, total body workout -- albeit not one for beginners -- with just the right amount of instruction and no irritating "pep talks" or celebrity prattling: in other words, real yoga.

Most positions are held for 30 seconds, although a few are held for shorter periods of time and one --upward bow -- is repeated three times in a row. Sufficient time is permitted for transfer from one position to the next, even if, in the beginning, a practitioner cannot maintain the "flow" and needs to walk from one position to another. In my view, Yee is, along with Shiva Rea, the best yoga instructor making DVDs, and "Power Yoga" is his best DVD, overall.

One additional note: Recently, I have been employing this yoga practice and Yee's "Total Energy Yoga" along with physical therapy to treat a "frozen shoulder". My physical therapist is impressed by the progress that I have made using these yoga DVDs. While I would never suggest that anyone -- especially someone with an injury -- try an exercise DVD without first consulting his or her doctor, I have to say that yoga and, specifically, Rodney Yee, has worked for me.

This is a great yoga workout. It's quite strenuous, and I'd recommend it for advanced beginners or intermediate yoga practitioners. The set is beautiful and the cues are perfect. If you just started yoga, I wouldn't recommend starting with this dvd, but if you are already fairly fit and familiar with yoga, this is a great choice.

Easy to follow, wonderful techniques, and spectular aiding in body tension. I also enjoy the muscle building the video provides. I has been only a few weeks and I already see and feel the differance. Thank You Rodney!! ;)

This DVD is great. It pushes you and yet allows you to make modifications were necessary. It is an hour long and really makes you sweat if you push yourself deep into the poses. Clear visuals and great instruction. I love this DVD and if I end up skipping my gym workout this is the first DVD I grab at home. WONDERFUL!

5 out of 5 stars Intense!.......2007-06-05

This is an intense, long workout that is "do-able", but be prepared! I am a beginner but practice everyday with Rodney Yee's AM/PM Yoga for Beginners (love that DVD!) and other DVDs and am working my way up to intermediate level. I try to do the more intense and time consuming Yoga a few times a week, when I can fit it into my schedule. Because this one is the longest of my videos, I don't get to do it too much since there never seems to be enough time in the day. I also like to hold the stretches a little more than is allowed in this video. I affectionately refer to this DVD as the "boot camp/drill sergeant" workout because its a constant stream of instructions and movement. This is a good video for someone who is looking for more of an actual workout and not so much of the relaxation and long hold periods of stretches. Is one of the only workouts that makes me sweat!

5 out of 5 stars I used to run 10k a day.......2007-06-17

I used to be a very active athlete..running, basketball, gymnastics...you name it. A couple of months ago I graduated college and moved out to a tiny apartment in a big city with my boyfriend and needed to find a way to workout without paying big bucks for a gym and without running in the dangerous area I live in.

This was the answer. I consider myself in great shape, and was very skeptical about girly workout videos. Since I started this video my flexibility improved greatly, I've become more defined, and my balance has improved. I never weigh myself, but if you eat your greens and use this workout tape, you will lose fat. Also, I'm very muscular and was worried about getting "big," and this doesn't do that at all.

I was also very concerned about how cheesy this was going to be. I didn't want to look like an idiot working out in front of my boyfriend, and you really don't do anything ridiculous, like some of the dance cardio stuff out there. In fact, sometimes he jumps in and tries to keep up.

My suggestion: do the 40 minute workout every other day, and use Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip (disk 2) every other day. Results are amazing.

This is a tough DVD to get into. You must be fast and coordinated. Denise combines 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of interval training (cardio and weight training combined), and 10 minutes of flexibility stretches. Some of the moves are tricky and unpredictable, and some are hard to do, like the backward leg lunges, but keep moving. That's what's important. This workout will really make you sweat a lot. But I like that because that what's needed to lose weight. I do all 3 workouts at a time and feel very accomplished afterward. I highly recommend this DVD.

I just got this DVD and I think is a great cardio workout. The first day that I did it made me sweat in the first 10 minutes and once or twice I stop for seconds to take a sip of water, my heart was right to the roof; even thoug I run 3 to 5 times a week for 50 minutes. So, right know I'm doing this DVD 3 times a week and this will be my second week and still is challenging. I defenely recomend this DVD for an intermediate/advanced level not for beginners. It is a great Workout!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fat burning machine!.......2007-06-10

I love this dvd! I have Taebo and Pilates, but this is the only one that I REALLY love. It works so well, and has 2 workouts and a flexibility section so that you don't get bored. You can choose to do one or the other, or do all three for a real fat blasting workout! I did the Cardio section for about 4 non-consecutive days and cheated on my diet, but I still lost 3 1/2 lbs doing this workout. I LOVE IT!

I am enjoying this DVD very much. Denise keeps you moving through a challenging and dynamic workout. I recommend it for anyone that is fairly fit and wants to get a good aerobic and strenth training workout.

$30 for this and no case?! I can't believe that for $30, this is delivered in a sleeve that doesn't even close.

Also, having read the book, I thought the disk would expand on the material in the book. Instead, it only goes very quickly through the drills. Perhaps this would be sufficient for an experienced swimmer, but for a novice, it is really lacking in content.

The book (Total Immersion: The Revolutionary Way To Swim Better, Faster, and Easier) and DVD aren't completely aligned, but do supplement each other well. Actually, I probably wouldn't recommend the DVD without the book.

There are two extremes of swimmers that would likely be interested in this swim method: complete beginners looking to start swimming and experienced swimmers looking to examine this method. Like most, I was somewhere in the middle (after being told by a swim coach that I looked like I was being electrocuted in the water, I thought that this relaxed style of swimming would be a good remedy).

Beginners will instantly see the value; it starts at the very beginning with active floating. Experienced swimmers will need to be prepared to start at the very beginning as well, as Terry Laughlin (correctly) sees a need to break down established patterns of movement in order to build new muscle memory.

My freestyle has become significantly more relaxed. Of course, I still have a long way to go to becoming a proficient distance swimmer (practice, practice, practice), but this video has helped eliminate a lot of bad habits so that the practice is actually beneficial.

One criticism (aside from the somewhat cheesy production): proper flutter kick is nearly ignored. Although it's not the primary source of propulsion for efficient swimmers (e.g., Terry only kicks once per stroke), it's still a significant supplement when wanting to swim fast. It would have been nice to see it addressed more in the video.

I thought I was going to get a great, how-to DVD that would show me some new techniques and give me a better understanding of how to improve my freestyle. Based on the reviews I read prior to my purchase I figured this would be the right DVD for me. Boy was I wrong. The instruction is geared for the complete beginner and spends WAY TOO much time telling the swimmer that they should work on the techniques with a "swim buddy." A lot of good that does when you swim alone and have no one you can swim with at all. The DVD also wastes too much time with the basics of the freestyle stroke. From its title, "swim better, faster and easier" I didn't get that at all from this DVD. It also stated that you would learn about the turns, and open water swimming. In reality, it shows about 8 minutes in total for those two segments. Don't waste your money on this DVD, look for another teaching video, or start asking people you know where they learned about swimming and if they can recommend anything.
I've gotten more out of other swimmers at the pool than I did out of this DVD.

This DVD is a great watch, & very useful to get a visuale aspect on drills as explained in 'Triathlon Swimming Made Easy'. It has great underwater & above water footage, & a really cool shot of fully underwater freestyle. However, it would be less useful if used as a stand alone product.

5 out of 5 stars Fun workout...never boring!.......2007-05-27

This is by far the best home workout I've done. I usually get bored with my dvds after a while and they wind up catching dust on my bookshelf. I went through all 8 weeks of the HHA rotation (4 weeks if you have the basic package)and I'm going to start it over again next week. When I first started, Shaun T. annoyed me a little; he talked way too much for me. But after a while, I got used to it, he has great cues so he's easy to follow, and he is funny. He definately adds something to the workout; he isn't dull and that's what makes it so fun. And he isn't too hard on the eyes. This workout does make you sweat and it is absolutely fun to do. I'm not sure if I lost anything, I didn't take my measurements before hand and I didn't change my diet. However, I do notice that I have a waistline now, I have more definition in my legs and after having a flat behind for as long as I can remember, I think I have a little bit of a tushy now. I do look good in my jeans, if I do say so myself. I still have a stomach pooch in front but this second go round I'm going to really watch my diet and hope it comes off. Very good workout. Love it!

This is my first week using these DVD's. I'm moderatley fit, though overweight and I've found the routines to be easy to follow and FUN FUN FUN! I've never done an at home exercise video that made it so much fun to "feel the burn". Now at the end of the week I've got just enough muscle soreness to feel like I did it right and got a good workout without being uncomfortable and/or incapacitated. And I've always wanted to know the latest cool dance stuff; this workout has you dancing right away. Shawn (?) Shaun (?) T. is fun to listen to and fun to watch and fun to follow along. My 2 yr old daughter dances with me!

Pros: I hate doing aerobics and I'm not into health clubs, but when it's cold outside, I have to compromise, so when I saw this DVD on an infomercial, I gave it a shot. I love to dance and I love hip hop. From another site, I checked out how the actual dance aerobics were and enjoyed that enough to buy this (it's a little too expensive though).

Fat Burning Cardio: Shaun T doesn't go so fast that you can't keep up, but just enough to keep you energized. Plus, the man is extra funny, especially when "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls comes on. There are those who can count steps and there are those who can really dance, and from his body movement, I'm convinced he can really work the floor. This is by far the most fun I've ever had when doing aerobics and I plan to go through the whole 4-week plan, especially since Chicago weather is crazy anyway so I know I can't jog everyday like I want to. Didn't know he was an Alpha Phi Alpha until I looked at one of his sites, so that explains the frat hop dance he does, and that is my favorite part of the "Fat Burner" DVD.

Ab Sculpting: The abs are the most difficult part to gain muscle in but his workouts automatically make me feel the burn (yes, I know, very cliche to say). But surprisingly, it's my legs that are getting the most workout just from the dancing involved.

Total Body Burn: That workout was hard. I'm sure it'll get easier with time, but for the most part, I wanted it be over. On the other hand, I loved the music the most on this one, especially Lumidee, as well as the dances that resembled tribal techniques.

I purchased Hip Hop Abs recently off the beachbody site after seeing it advertised on tv and I actually really enjoy it. The workouts are a lot of fun. I was afraid that the routines would be difficult to follow, but they actually are some of the easier ones I have tried in my DVD workout collection (as far as choreography goes). They will get you sweating though. There is a girl that does modifications throughout the program as well. You can follow along with her if you want to keep the moves lower impact. The series I have consists of 4 DVDs. There is a level 1 DVD and a level 2 DVD which each have a 30-40 minute cardio workout and a separate 30-40 minute cardio/interval toning workout (called "Total Body Burn") in which Sean incorporates some upper body moves with dumb bells and there is some floor work for legs and buns at the end of this workout. You will need a mat and either weighted gloves or dumb bells for the Total Body Burn workouts. The workouts on the Level 1 DVD are shorter in length and less intense than Level 2. I remember that one of the songs on the level one DVD cardio workout is a version of "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls, which is always fun to dance to.

There is also a DVD which has a 5 minute abs segment called "Last Minute Abs". It's a cardio workout with standing abs. The music on this one is a version of "Yeah" by Usher. It also has a segment called "Learn to Dance". It is around 8 minutes and some of the other DVDs have some of these separate dance instruction and some short abs segments available in their menus too.

There is a legs and buns DVD which has hip hop dance that focuses on lower body and ends with floor work for your legs and buns. It is around 20-25 minutes in length. As I mentioned earlier, you have the option of using weighted boxing type gloves or hand weights for some of these workouts.

Shaun T. is an enjoyable instructor who is very funny as well. He keeps you laughing throughout the workouts. He is so upbeat and loves to dance. He is motivating and makes it fun. He is confident and he loves to show off his six pack abs too! I really think that he is the reason the workouts are so enjoyable. I can see why his classes are likely very popular in person. Time flew by when I did the cardio and I did feel it in my abs later as if I had done traditional floor ab crunches.

If you like to dance and enjoy hip hop aerobics, this is probably worth a purchase if you can find it. The entire set of DVDs can be expensive though (thus my 4 star rating). Look for it used if possible.

Out of the numerous workout videos I've purchased in the past (Kathy Smith's, The Firm, Denise Autin's, Paula Abdul's dance video etc), this is my absolute favorite. I have never gotten bored of the total body sculpting workout, it can be used as a beginner workout or you can intensify it by using heavier weights or more reps. Even though it seems short, the warmup and cooldown is just the right amount and has never resulted in any injury even when I used heavier weights and did both sections of workout together. The music is not too loud or techno and Jane Fonda's voice is firm but soothing. She also gives you tips on proper posture throughout the workout. This is a must have for your workout library!

I used to own this tape but wore it out and was delighted to find it in dvd format. I've tried countless other videos by such outfits such as Crunch, Self, The Firm, Samba Party, and Billy Blanks and find that Jane is still the queen. She provides a variety of routines and fitness levels from which to work and she's clear and concise. However, I think it's just her constant nudging to get better, instead of the yelling or cheering in your face, that really sets her apart. She challenges you and yet lets you know that it's all right if you're not quite there yet--don't worry, you'll get there. I whole-heartedly recommend this dvd as well as Jane Fonda Collection: The Complete Workout & Stress Reduction Program. They truly will be a great addition to any finess library!

I have gone through each of the different workouts on this DVD and all of them are fun, short, and give you a great workout. Some of the routines can be confusing but once you catch on its great. I have used some of Jane Fonda's other videos and I like this one almost the best. The total body sculpting workouts are the best and really make you feel like you've worked out muscles you didn't know you have or that you wouldn't know how to target.

This dvd is great! I got it because I knew that Jane Fonda was the aerobic queen of the '80s, and I wanted to see if she could help me get in shape. I have not been disappointed. I think that it is well-balanced with aerobic activity and toning. Jane and her partners give great instructions. Jane puts some humor into it as well. I thought the music was good. I am not that well-coordinated, so I know that you can do it if I can. Beginners should not get upset if they do not get it right away. Just have patience. Anyone interested in getting their heart rate up and toning their muscles will benefit. I highly recommend this dvd to everyone, no matter the level.

I have loved all of the tae-bo workouts I've done, and this DVD set is no exception. My only complaint is the group in the background counting down CONSTANTLY. Seriously, through out the entire DVD, they do not stop counting. I've never taken a class in person, or seen another DVD where this is done, and I find it to be very distracting and extremely annoying!!

This is the second dvd that I've tried of his that was awful. The other one was a Crunch video that I bought initially for my husband to try (there was no way a novice like him was doing it) which was terrible, but I ended up using it for the second workout which is done by Tracy York which rocks! Crunch - Master Blaster with Bonus Workout: Fat Blaster Plus Anyway, this one is also atrocious. He moves way too fast, is totally impressed with himself, and doesn't do any real consistent moves. Plus, it's just WAAAYYYY too long. Billy seems to think that we're all like him and have hours to devote to make ourselves look like him, which is phenomenal but not for me. I will never buy another Billy Blanks exercise program again.

This is the second series of videos/DVDs I've purchased of Billy Blanks. This one is even more intense than the original Tao Bo videos.

My only complaint is that not anywhere in the description or on the box does it mention that you need the Billy Bands. Now you can do the exercises without the bands. And you probably should to begin with. I have since ordered them from Billy Blanks website.

I would highly recommend this DVD for anyone looking for a good, solid stretching routine. I've had this DVD for quite a while and still use it on a regular basis, even though I'm beyond the beginner level. The moves are basic, but thorough. Every part of the body gets stretched. There also are no pilates or yoga-inspired moves, which is just fine by me. Sometimes Tamilee's banter gets weird--she mentions stretches you should do if you're a sumo wrestler! I don't think that applies to many of the viewers. But happily, there is a "music only" soundtrack so once you're familiar with the routine, you can turn off the narration if you choose. But otherwise, she's a competent, likeable instructor--not annoyingly perky but not comatose, either. She gives clear instructions and points out where you should feel the stretch.

The first part of the DVD is divided into 3 10-minute routines: standing, seated, and on the floor. I usually use the standing stretch section after working out, and add in the floor stretch if I want a little more. As a matter of personal preference, I don't care for the seated stretching section. But if standing/balancing for long periods or getting to the floor is difficult, the seated stretches are just the thing for you.

The second part is a 30-minute routine which is pleasant and relaxing.

I follow this workout after my treadmill cardio workouts. I used my original VHS tape until it wore out. I now keep the DVD in my disc changer. Tamilee hits every major muscle group. My flexibility has improved significantly.

I'll state what is obvious first: This workout works pretty well if you are running short on time and want to get some "cardio" in.
I feel I can do this workout on any day, even when I am NOT in the mood to workout. And that is saying alot about the DVD.
Its broken into 10min segments. There three segments:
1) Upper Body
2) Lower Body
3) Core/Abs
Plus a bonus section, this one is a great finale.
Overall, my heart rate goes up to just about the right range.

The day I am looking to burn calories and want to "enjoy" a workout, I pick this up. This is my no excuse DVD.
Of course, for a balanced workout routine, you probably want some resistance training on other days.

Overall, I would say this is somewhere in between beginners and advanced levels, probably low end of intermediate.

This workout - whether you do 10 minutes at a time or all 40 minutes together - will get you sweating and panting in no time. I absolutely love Janis Saffell -ever since I first did her Crunch workouts. She is personable and in great shape, which inspires me to keep going. My workouts need to have variety and this fits the bill. I get my cardio in and never feel cheated. I recommend this one highly!

I really like this DVD. The workout consists of 3 different 10 minute cardio kickboxing routines. There is a menu feature which allows you to choose one of the workouts or do them all together. The first 10 minute cardio segment emphasizes your upper body, the second cardio segment focuses on your lower body (and wow did I feel it in my legs) and the third cardio segment focuses on core and abs. It's a great overall 30 minute cardio routine that will let you get some problem area toning in at the same time. The routines will get your heart rate up, but are not hard to follow. The instructor is likable and in great shape herself. She has two background exerciser girls with her and one of them does the routine with modifications for beginners to follow along with.

There is another 10 minute workout in the bonus section of the menu which has some cardio and some floorwork toning as well if you wish to do a 40 minute overall workout. I liked this DVD.

Honestly, you could have only this DVD in your collection & not get bored, hit a plateau or do the same routine over & over. It's as perfect when you have only a few minutes in your day & just want to squeeze in something, or when you have much more time to do a long workout. It's excellent! Why no one else is doing this is beyond me!

The "Minna Lessig - Total Body Toning - 1 Minute Workout" DVD lets you create your own workout. First you do the warm-up exercise which the DVD randomly selects from three choices. After the warm-up you pick what area you want to work on: Upper Body, Lower Body, Abs, or Total Body and which level of intensity you want - Level I (easier) or Level 2 (harder). Next you get to pick how long you want to work out which can range from one minute to 72 minutes depending on what area you are targeting and what level you are working at. Each exercise is approximately one minute long and many of the exercises require either a set of light weights or a heavier set of weights. After exercising you select the cool down exercise which again is randomly selected from three options. There are also two Fast Track Workouts if you are pressed for time - the Level 1 Fast Track Workout is three minutes long and the Level 2 Fast Track Workout is four minutes long. There is also a seven minute Bonus Stretch Segment as well as segments explaining how the program works and how to get the most out of the DVD.

"Minna Lessig - Total Body Toning - 1 Minute Workout" is a great way of toning your body. I consider myself a beginner when it comes to exercising and I really appreciate the fact that I can choose the length and intensity of my workout. I use Level 1 and while I don't break out in a sweat like I do when using other exercise DVD's, I do feel like I've gotten a complete workout by the time I'm through. I found the one minute length of each exercise to be perfect, especially since if an exercise was a bit too difficult for me I could either still do it in the one minute or skip it altogether without harming my exercise routine. The DVD claims to have over 115 different exercises (there's a chart listing them all) so most of the time each exercise program is different, but I have seen some exercises repeated while I exercise. I do the Total Body Toning (Level 1) and the exercises either involve standing up or floor exercise with no apparent rhyme or reason as to which is next and it can be a bit frustrating to have to switch from one to the other with no warning. There is a brief transition period between each exercise, which may annoy some, but I found it a perfect way to catch my breath before going onto the next exercise. While the DVD says weights are optional, the majority of exercises I've done require either light weights or heavier weights. The warm up and cool down sections are very helpful, especially the cool down which I find very effective. I like Minna Lessig as an instructor; she's very pleasant, calm, and encouraging.

I find "Minna Lessig - Total Body Toning - 1 Minute Workout" to be very helpful.

I immediately noticed some burn and challenge;just what i needed to shake up my routine some. The 1-minute duration of each move keeps you focused and efficient. I feel stronger and firmer after just 30 min. 5 day circuit in the two-week period i've been using it.

If your idea of a good time is sweating like a farm animal and pumping iron for hours on end, this DVD ain't for you! Don't waste your money.

However, if you are like me and exercise isn't your favorite part of the day, this DVD is just what you need. Put the guacamole and the chips down, get off the couch, waddle over to the DVD and turn it on.

You tell the DVD which part of your body you want to work (Upper Body, Lower Body, Abs, Total Body), at what intensity (Level 1 or Level 2) and how much time you have: (4, 8, 12, 24 minutes) and off you go. I think its a great concept and I wish more DVDs gave me this kind of control.

As the other reviewers have stated, this is a toning tape and a light set of hand weights and a slightly heavier set are required. I like this too as I don't want my living room to double as a gym with balls, bands and gimmicks lying around.

The only complaint I have is that sometimes, Minna has you on the floor and the next minute you need to be standing up. I don't move quite as fast as I used to so I miss the first few reps on the new exercise.

But again, this is one of my favorite programs.

Like the others, I'm happy to add some variety to my toning workout. I've read some of the reviews about some of the exercises repeating, or going over the time limit and I wonder if it has more to do with their dvd player rather than the dvd. Just a thought...

I have to say this is probably one of the best purchases I have made on Amazon.com. Sara Ivanhoe is an absolutely charming instructor. I enjoy Yoga, but sometimes I just don't have time for a 45-60 minute routine. These routines fit perfectly into my workout schedule. I can do my cardio and then do a quick Yoga routine.

I would recommend this set to the advanced beginner and above. I really think you need to have mastered basic Yoga before attempting these workouts.

I love these DVDs. I find them to be a really easy & quick way to include yoga in your workout schedule. Sarah is a very competent yoga instructor, and her attitude is encouraging. The time flies by, and every workout is effective. Weight Loss and Power Beauty Sweat are my two favorites.

I have bought a dozen (or more) workout tapes and dvd's in the past and used each of them maybe once or twice. But I LOVE these 20 minute workouts and do them faithfully nearly every day! I have a 5 disc dvd player, so I put them all in and alternate between them. I usually do 2 or 3 discs each time but sometimes if I have time I do all 5. I still try to go to the yoga studio at least once a week but when I can't these are perfect!

I've always been a bit skeptical of yoga, preferring instead to lift weights and run. But I got into yoga at a recommendation of a friend of mine in the military who says its one of his preferred activities. I found Rodney Yee's beginner DVD to be a little too slow. I've also tried live classes, but didn't dig the chanting and meditation too much.

Sara Ivanhoe's DVD's are a good solid introduction to yoga, and if you're in average shape, you can keep pushing yourself and notice real improvement in balance and flexibility. Now I'm totally hooked and do it several times a week. I would recommend her DVD's for someone who's looking to learn more about yoga and to push themselves into something a bit more challenging and that will help you build real strength and flexibility.

My wife says this is a great supplement to her daily workout. It strengthens and tones and at the same time leaves her feeling relaxed afterwards.
