4 out of 5 stars Good Enough.......2007-04-03

This set is good enough. I mean, how can an old production be made to today's standards without altering the original content. Come on. This and Enter the Dragon is all I need to start with for my collection. Bruce is a legend, and to have a set like this is good enough in my opinion.

3 out of 5 stars Good collection, but average........2007-03-27

Right off the bat, this collection loses a star for it's inclusion of Game of Death and Game of Death II. Both are insulting to the Bruce Lee legacy. While Game of Death II is just a REALLY BAD movie, the first Game of Death would have actually been a decent film had they not tried to capitalize on Bruce Lee. Instead, we see a bunch of cheap Bruce Lee acting imitations and some bad special effects. It's just insulting.

The other three movies, worthy of being part of this collection are: The Big Boss (AKA Fists of Fury), Fist of Fury (AKA Chinese Connection), and The Way of the Dragon (AKA Return of the Dragon). I've never seen them done so well. I've seen previous DVDs of the first two movies, but these remasters look marvelous. Most of it is clean. Up close, you might be able to see some small pixelization artifacts though. It seems like they took a high resolution image from the original tapes and then squeezed the picture down to standard definition. Looking a few feet away though, you may not notice the artifacts; and the improvement in picture quality is worth it.

The sound quality is also decent. I'm not a big sound buff, but the sound sounds alright to me. Ah, but wait. The Chinese soundtracks sound good, but the English ones are a different story. Another star was lost here because the English soundtracks on all but the Game of Death movies are junk. The voices are low and the sound effects sound super low quality and way over done. It's not even worth watching the movie in English. Therefore I suggest that to get the most out of this collection, watch it with Audio Track 3: Chinese. This is the original recording in Cantonese. Then select English Subtitles. While this is a bit of a pain, it's better than watching the movie with the English audio.

This is the first time I've seen The Way of the Dragon. I must say I was disappointed. I can see that Bruce tried to get his instructional points in and his humor. But the story seemed second rate and the fight scenes needed more work. Most of them had no punch to them; they looked fake. Although, an OK movie, this is his worst. The other two and the Warner Bros. release, Enter the Dragon, are the best, especially the latter.

1 out of 5 stars What a ripoff.......2007-03-03

I do not know who wrote these reviews but after viewing this collection I was compelled to write this review. I am a fan of Bruce lee and his movies and to have someone come out with this low quality imitation of remastered videos is a disgrace to his legacy. The sounds were almost comical. The real insult is to put special features on each video and to see that there are none. I clicked on the special features on every video and there were no specials. I wish I could not give it one star but I have to in order to write this. Be very careful if you get this collection and know you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 stars The best Collection of Bruce Lee.......2007-02-15

I have truly enjoyed the copy of this collection.

4 out of 5 stars I don't buy imports - this is the next best thing!.......2007-01-03

What can I say. I bought imports before and got burnt.

Suffice it to say, this is possibly the next best thing to own. Here, you get to actually watch the movies in the original languages, with the exception of Game of Death and Game of Death II, but they were always done in English and is not a big loss.

Having the original Chinese language is great on many fronts. First off, the dubbing that was done before in English was horrendous as it always has been. Plus, some things are changed from the story line when they translate it as they try to match the lip movements to the English words.

Also, because of the translation, this sometimes causes other scenes to be thrown out. Case in point is in Way of the Dragon/Return of the Dragon. When Bruce's character is standing outside the restaurant with his stomach growling, a man comes out and tells him to go on inside. In the American version, we see Bruce go in and then come out again, apparently after having eaten. Well, an entire scene was missed in where he goes into the restaurant to order food and can't speak a word of English, but that's what the waitress speaks in and what the menu is in. The entire exchange is hilarious. It also drives home the point that Bruce's character is out of place in Rome which makes more sense with many of the scenes in the movie which seemed strange when spoken in the English language.

Now, it would have been nice to have more "extras" other than the filler stuff they have here, which is basically slide shows, trailers and interviews with people. I understand the import versions have much more, but for me, this coupled with the 2-disc Enter the Dragon DVD makes my Bruce Lee collection complete.

With the Ultimate Collection, you get a new 5.1 English soundtrack but at times, it sounds funny during the fight scenes. Specifically, it sounds like the fight is taking place in a tunnel with the reverberation turned on a little too much I guess. It can be kind of distracting and disorienting with the way it sounds, but it's not a total loss. Still, the Chinese soundtrack is better. Different music and it just flows better.

The Chinese soundtracks are fine and make the movies much more enjoyable for me because you get to hear the true emotions of the actors. Some have complained about the subtitles being within the movie rather than in the black bars below. This is because these movies are in anamorphic wide screen, so on a HDTV, you'd have no black bars. To me, it's not that bad. That's how it would have been in the theaters to begin with anyways.

The picture for each of the movies are great, with the exception of Way of the Dragon. Early on, parts of it are fuzzy and out of focus. Now, this could be due to the camera shot itself because it's not the entire shot that's out of focus, but it's not enough to be completely horrible or unwatchable. But, after you get past that point in Way of the Dragon, the picture is great just like in all the other movies.

The only unwatchable things are the Game of Death (minus the final fights with the REAL Bruce of course) and Game of Death II and we all know why that is. If you really want to see how the Game of Death fights were, get the 2-disc Enter the Dragon DVD which contains at least 30 minutes of the fights in the order they would have happened, including his side kicks that were supposed to come along with him but were left out of the GOD movie for obvious reasons. It's a very interesting introspective on what Bruce was trying to envision with Game of Death and it's a shame it was never completed the way he wanted it. Plus, all the interviews up to that point are great, with Chuck Norris, Kareem Abdul Jabar and so many other former students and martial artists that knew and worked with Bruce Lee.

To me, this set is worth 4 stars. It could have gotten 5 stars with some extra content and the strange 5.1 sounds hurt that as well, but overall, this is worth having. Couple this with the 2-disc DVD of Enter the Dragon and it's completely worth 5 stars.

There is no better bargain in the states than this.

5 out of 5 stars Super Instruction For Beginners and Advanced Players!.......2006-04-05

This 10 DVD Tennis series offers terrific insight into the game. I like Pro Jensen's teaching method of building your game from the ground up. He is always interesting and keeps your attention throughout each program. I really thought I had a decent game until I went through each of these DVDs. It was nothing but eye opening about how off my techniques really were. With the help of this set I've made numerous simple adjustments to my strokes, footwork and court strategies that have brought my game up many notches. For example the simple punch stroke as he calls it in the Volleys DVD has made me a much more consistent and accurate net player. This simple stroke keeps my ball in play where before I was constantly over swinging and hitting my Volleys out. This technique alone was worth the price of the series. I have easily come away with 5 or more game improving techniques from each DVD and when added up make for 50 plus improvements to my game. I am elated with my better play and all I can say is get the set and see for yourself how fast you can improve.

5 out of 5 stars A Treasure Chest Of Tennis Techniques.......2005-07-18

I recently received the James Jensen Pro Tennis Lessons 10 DVD Boxed Set as a Father's Day Gift and it is surely one of the best gift's I've ever received. As a certified 38 year old 4.5 Tennis fanatic who plays an average 5 days a week the DVDs have given me a tremendous resource for improving my overall play. I refer to the DVDs constantly especially if I played poorly in a match, by viewing the lessons I can discover what I was doing wrong and quickly learn the techniques needed to improve my skills. It's an astounding set of lessons which covers all the important details for better play and match strategies. Pro Jensen is charismatic and a true expert of the game who does all the instruction while performing each technique in a flawless easy to comprehend motivating manner. A true master work and treasure chest full of techniques for anyone whishing to advance their tennis skills as a single or doubles tournament competitor.

5 out of 5 stars This DVD Saved My Game!.......2005-04-14

My game was in the gutter until I discovered this great DVD. Upon just one viewing I was able to make major corrections to my Backhand, Serve and Volleys. The instruction by Pro Jensen is the best, being very to the point and easy to follow. I must say he is easier to understand than many Pros I have paid big bucks to study with. With the help of this DVD I am hitting the ball much more consistent and with greater power and top spin. A very good investment!

5 out of 5 stars Best Tennis Instruction!.......2005-02-11

I have been playing tennis and buying books and videos for over the past 20 years but none of the material I have collected can compare to the teaching and techniques on the James Jensen's Pro Tennis Lessons DVD's! Everything is unbelievably well explained on the proper techniques, etc. I have his complete teaching library and refer to them regularly for keeping my game sharp and solid. I am sure everyone looking to improve their skills will benefit from James Jensen's teachings as much as I have. I highly recommend them to all tennis enthusiasts.

3 out of 5 stars good tournament and thats about it.......2006-08-19

The Ultimate Game is one of those movies that tries to use all flash and very little else. There are good fights, fighters with extremely ripped bodies, and a fighting locale that is beautiful. Unfortunately there is no beauty within the movie itself.

The worst thing about this movie is the sound. The sound is crappy, from voices to effects. You can actually hear the actors speaking into a microphone and footsteps outside are dubbed with footsteps in a hallway. In some scenes you can hear ocean waves on the beach and other scene you hear no waves, even though they are cleary there. The acting is pretty bad, but the muscle build of these male actors can make up for it, especially the villains. My favorite is Sam Slater, played by Paul Logan. If he could act a little better, he would make a really good villain.

The first 45 minutes of the movies is very slow. There is no story, but instead tiresome scenes of retrieving fighters for the tournament. The tournament is about the only good thing in the movie. It takes place on a beautiful beach and there are several fights with lots of decent choreography. The final fight between the main character (played by J.D. Rifkin) and Slater (Paul Logan) is about 3 minutes with nothing too exciting in the way of choreography. The only nice thing about the fight is the two guys end up fighting in the ocean water.

There is a little twist at the end I did not expect, only surprise in the whole movie.

In the end, this movie was about what I expected. Considering how low budget it is and the actors involved, it could be worse. If you enjoy movies with lenghty tournaments for lots of fights, than Ultimate Game may please. Don't be fooled by the dvd case cover or dvd cover. The case shows 2 sports cars, which are not in the movie. The dvd cover displays Daniel Bernhardt from Bloodsport 4...no idea why that is on there but he is not in Ultimate Game.

3 out of 5 stars BUFF BODS AND SEXY CHIX.......2004-08-25

THE ULTIMATE GAME is one of those martial arts movies that appeals to the testosterone and T&A that's in all of us. Who of us over the age of..never mind..wouldn't like to have bodies like J.D. Rifkin or Paul Logan? What about the foxy chicks? The lush island setting?
ULTIMATE GAME is an average film focusing on a tournament held for a million dollar prize, and the good team vs. the bad team. The fight sequences are fairly imaginative (choreographed by T. J. Storm, who also appears in the film) and there's a nice twist at the end.
Rifkin is the All American hero; Paul Logan is the studly bad guy. It's a lot better than some of the other films recently released, so if you like kung fu fighting, join in.

Think you can name that pop tune in a few opening bars? Then Beat the Intro is the game for you. The wildly addictive game contains more than 3,000 song clips, grouped into decades: '50s-'60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s-'00s. The gist: a screen comes up with three possible artist/song title names and the intro to the song begins playing; use your DVD remote to choose your answer (some may prefer the faster gameplay of the computer, using your mouse). If you choose wrong, you lose; if you get each answer in a set right, you win, but are still evaluated by how quick you are. The mix of artists is impressive (from the '50s, you might hear Elvis, Doris Day, Buddy Holly or Jimmy Dorsey, for instance), and the game can be played solo or with up to four players. For the best challenge, choose "Random," to mix decades up, and it will soon be clear whose brain is littered with the most useful pop-culture flotsam and jetsam. (It can be a mixed blessing, however, to win a round, only to realize it was because you really did know the difference between Mac Davis' "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" and Bread's "Baby I'm-a Want You.") And don't think because you think you remember, say, the early '90s, that you'll have total recall of all the Country Hat Acts. Beat the Intro is great for families, parties, and know-it-all pals, challenging, but broad enough to let everyone test his or her knowledge. OK, strike up the band! --A.T. Hurley

Description

Test your music knowledge with friends, family or just yourself. Over 3,000 questions based on intros, lyrics, pictures and and the history of your favorite songs and artists from the past five decades. It's easy to play. Challenging trivia for rookies, know-it-alls and everyone in between makes it fun for the whole family! Randomized questions makes the game new every time! The clock's ticking... Beat the Intro!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Fun But Game Play Is Too Quick.......2006-09-29

Beat The Intro is a fun DVD music trivia game that arrives in stores this October 24th. The single disc game includes over 3,000 questions. The questions are based on song openings, lyrics and pictures from songs and bands of the last 50 years.

The game play is fairly easy, you really don't even need to read the instructions unless you want to. It is a game that you will need your DVD remote to play. I found it much easier to play this game with my computer and a wireless external mouse. Pointing the DVD remote at the TV so much became a drag but playing the game with the mouse on the computer was a blast.

There are two main formats, a quick draw segment and a head to head format for multi-players. In the quick draw segment, you are given the opportunity to answer six questions from the decade of your choice or random. If you get one question wrong you lose--just that simple.

In the head to head format, you choose the number of players. Then you choose the decade. I believe the decades are 50s/60s, 70's, 80's and 90's/00s. I particularly played the 80s decade. In the head to head, after choosing the decade you are given a intro question about a musical artist. After choosing the correct intro, you are given various trivia questions about the artist. The winner of the head to head is whoever scores the most points.

The artists included in the game are fairly well known. I only played the 80s and the 90s/00's decades. Artists that came up in 15 minutes of game play included ABC, Katrina and the Waves, The Cars, Soft Cell, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, A-Ha, Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Sheena Easton, The Clash, Madonna, and John Mayer to name a few.

The downside is I don't know if this is a fact that will be argued, it seems like several of the intros were re-recorded and sound slightly different than the original songs. I am fairly familiar with the Beyonce song "My Myself, and I," and the A-Ha song "Take On Me," and they sounded slightly different to me, it could have just been me.

It's a fun game. Game play is too quick though. There is no way to lengthen the game play. The quick draw is only six questions and it's over. A head to head game with two players can last 5-7 minutes or less.

It's a fun game though.

3 out of 5 stars Wish I'd read Topper's review . . ........2007-03-10

The format of this video is good, if you like poker. The three things that suck are: 1) There's a "strip or dare" feature where the girls can perform a silly dare like telling an erotic fantasy instead of stripping. 2) The MC guy is a douche, hovering over the girls saying things like "I want to see the ta-ta's." 3) As Topper astutely points out, the girls only strip down to G-strings. And they're supposed to be porn stars . . .

2 out of 5 stars Not what I hoped for ... It's b-o-r-i-n-g........2006-08-20

Alas, the overweight epidemic appears to have reached the San Fernando valley, as evidenced by several of these ladies who eventually, and tediously, bare most but not all and who display no knowledge of poker. Only the participation of Jenna Haze relieves the monotony somewhat.

1 out of 5 stars not what I expected.......2006-05-14

I expected this dvd to be adult movie stars performing lesbiens acts on each other, with the excuse of losseing a poker game as the reason. I am not a pooker fan. This dvd is more about the game than it is about the girls. The girls are never ceompletely naked. The strip down to a g-string and then are eliminated.

5 out of 5 stars for poker experts only........2006-04-23

As deep and complex as any educational poker dvd. If you read any sklansky book then you will enjoy this encyclopedia of poker knowledge.

5 out of 5 stars Question: How much fun is this?.......2006-02-23

Answer: A ton!

Card players and stipper lovers together will enjoy this romp of fun. The girls play cards. The winners of hands keep their clothes on. The losers..... AHA <- and there's the fun. But it's more than just clothing removal...it's how the clothing gets removed that makes this dvd into real fun indeed.

5 out of 5 stars Own The Net.......2004-08-19

I have several James Jensen Tennis DVD instructionals and this is my favorite. With the help of this DVD I have gone from a timid vollyer to an agressive take no prisoners net attacker. My new style of play has increased my wins and gotten me more respect on the court. Very good instruction that will definetly help your volley game.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing series that will rock your world!.......2005-09-19

This relatively obscure series (2002) is a real find. 8 near hour long episodes on 4 DVDs tell the story of primarily invertebrates of the sea (sponges, anenomes, flatworms, molluscs, arthropods, jellyfish, sea stars, etc...) over the course of time and how we relate and in some cases depend on these seemingly lowly creatures. Amazing video footage and computer graphics clearly explain everything. The scope of the video is worldwide. This is documentary film-making at its best. I couldn't help but get excited over things I've seen in real life and taken for granted as a scuba diver.

You can learn more about this series at the [...] website.

I also *HIGHLY* recommend the Journey of Man DVD (Logical sequel) and Evolution 4-DVD set, and National Geographic's Strange Days on Planet Earth 2-DVD set. If you enjoy the ocean or just being around water, I also recommend BBC's Blue Planet. Videos like these should be mass distributed for free!
