The triumph of personality is beautifully demonstrated in Mae West: The Glamour Collection, a bundle of five comedies featuring the never duplicated (if often imitated) Ms. West. Never altering her insouciant, sexed-up persona, Mae West sashays through these films like a tour guide in a well-lit bordello, cheerfully cracking herself up with a series of perfectly-timed one-liners. Since she wrote her own material, there was no separation between the lady (what a feeble word) and her scandalous dialogue.
If you doubt this, check out Night After Night, her film debut. The first half of the picture is an unremarkable gangster comedy: George Raft in his usual inert form, Constance Cummings the good girl, capable comic support from Roscoe Karns and Alison Skipworth. Then West blowses in, and it's all over. Within a minute she's tossed off an eternal signature line (hatcheck girl: "Goodness, what beautiful diamonds." West: "Goodness had nothin' to do with it, dearie") and disrupted the high-class aims of gangster Raft. The other actors look agog at this unapologetic force of libido. Watching this, you might recall the first time you ever saw Groucho Marx or Bill Murray on film--the movie itself disappears, replaced by gratitude that someone like this exists.
I'm No Angel followed her first starring vehicle (She Done Him Wrong, not included here), and its lunatic plot--Mae as a lion tamer taken up by New York society--does nothing to slow the barrage of sexual innuendo. West hums her way through the film with the kind of confidence that must have inspired countless fans to try something disreputable. Cary Grant is the bemused recipient of West's attention. Goin' to Town is nearly as good, as dance-hall gal Mae inherits an oil fortune, then sets her cap for the haughty Englishman working on her, uh, wells. West's style is undiminished (she was in her mid-forties already), although by this time the Production Code--concocted in part as a horrified response to her first films--was trimming her entendres.
Tamer still is the tongue-in-cheek Go West Young Man, although the spectacle of West (playing a "temperamental" movie star) leering after hunky Randolph Scott is pleasant. My Little Chickadee, made at Universal after her run at Paramount ended, is the legendary pairing with W.C. Fields. It's full of great bon mots from both drawlers, even if the sum is less than its parts. Disapproving Margaret Hamilton tells Fields of West, "I'm afraid I can't say anything good about her." Fields replies, "I can see what's good, tell me the rest." These five films are a good introduction to the rest. Beulah, peel me a grape. --Robert Horton

MORE MAE.......2007-05-24
I'm a big Mae West fan and this collection is terrific. My favorite Mae film is I'M NO ANGEL. I enjoy all of these titles and I've always thought MY LITTLE CHICKADEE is under-rated. I look forward to a second collection featuring BELLE OF THE NINETIES.

Boys, some of us are growing old here waitin' for the good stuff.
It's better than nothing.......2007-01-30
This is not the DVD treatment the real fans were hoping for. Far more lavish boxed sets and retrospectives have been put together for lesser talents from the past!
I've long suspected that the current owners of her films are oblivious of her cult potential, as shown by the long non release status of her films, and the general lack of a marketing plan that befits such a unique property. Much of the disappointment with this DVD set stems from the lack of obvious "star treatment".
Like the title suggests, it's better than nothing (i.e. non-release). We are going to buy this collection, because there is no better alternative.
I hope "they" come to their senses and do it better in the future. What this woman's memory deserves is:
1) A full boxed set with ALL of her films from 1932-1940, each on its own individual DVD disk.
2) Extras on each disk, including shorts, stills, historic materials and critic commentary.
3) For the copyright holders of these films to get a better clue and figure out how to rekindle this star's cult status.
Buy this crummy set! If you don't, then the powers- that- be will not have the $ incentive to consider repackaging her better in the future!
MY MAE WEST.......2007-01-23
MAE WEST WAS ONE OF THE MOST GREAT HOLLYWOOD ICON, I LOVE HER BEHAVIOR AS A WOMAN AND HER ACTING ...FOR ME IS NO ACTRESS TODAY THAT COMPARE WITH HER ...I LOVE OLD HOLLYWOOD , THE ACTORS AND ACTRESS CHARM IN THOSE TIMES WERE UNIQUE, SHE WAS A LEO LIKE ME , AND I KNOW THE MEANNING " WHATEVER LEO WANT ,LEO GETS" AND SHE WAS RIGHT ON THAT...IM A STRONG FAN OF HER AND NO HOLLYWOOD ICON TODAY WILL ABLE TO REPLACE MY MAE WEST ...NONE
Mae West looked like the gangster's moll to top them all..........2007-01-10
"Night After Night" was an otherwise unmemorable George Raft opus of the early 1930's... The scene was the entrance to a nightspot...
Enter Mae West, magnificently dripping in so much jewelery it must have given the lighting cameraman several heart attacks in his attempts to "damp it down" so that it didn't "flash up the bottle" as she moved...
Cries the hat-check girl: "Goodness, what beautiful diamonds!"
Mae West: "Goodness had nothing to do with it, dearie."
Gangsters' molls... they are part of the legend of the mobster movie... And in "Night After Night" it was never openly established just what kind of a dame Mae West was playing, but with all those rocks she looked like the gangster's moll to top them all...

Along with Sergio Leone's Clint Eastwood trilogy, Sergio Corbucci's Django, starring Belgian hunk Franco Nero as the gritty mercenary who drags a coffin behind him, was one of the most influential spaghetti Westerns. After mowing down armies of bad guys with his machine gun (which he brandishes in classic two-fisted tough-guy fashion--from the hip), he stages a daring gold heist from a Mexican military fortress and then plots to double-cross his bandito partners. Corbucci, who cowrote the story, fashions an unrelentingly violent tale of rival gangs squeezing the life out of a muddy, bloody border town, reveling in the sadism of the genre. The film opens with a woman strung up and lashed by a group of lascivious bandits, only to be saved by even more sadistic gunmen who plan to burn her alive, and Django fan Quentin Tarantino borrowed the scene where a vindictive general slices the ear off a corrupt preacher for Reservoir Dogs. While not as stylish as Leone's operatic epics, Django pushed the borders of violence into all-new territory, and the film was banned outright in England and cut in the U.S. It spawned 20 unofficial sequels before Nero returned 20 years later for the only legitimate sequel, Django Strikes Again. In the meantime, Nero followed up this grimy antihero role with a turn as the singing medieval superknight Lancelot in Camelot! Also features a short interview with Nero. --Sean Axmaker

Django is da man!!!.......2007-03-11
Django is a fantastic film. It's one of the best Spaghetti Westerns out there. The Anchor Bay edition which is out of print is ok as far as the picture goes but the sad thing is the only language track is the dubbed English which is more funny than anything. You need the Blue Underground edition. The picture is fantastic except for a few blemishes. It also has the Italian audio track which to me makes for a far better film. Django is surreal which makes for a good time with the DVD player. Highly recommended.
The Best WESTERN EVER! I MEAN EVER!.......2007-01-11
Only Italians know how to make a western. This is not some Johnny Wayne crap American movie, this movie is even better then the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Jew, with Clint Westwood :)) Do not listen to the reviews made by some American film buffs or whatever they call themselves, see this movie for yourself. Anyway only a European could appreciate a movie like Dijango!
Excellent release, important film.......2007-01-10
Django is one of the greatest of spaghetti westerns and proof that not only Sergio Leone could make them. The film has a very flimsy plot, but if that's what you're after then a spaghetti western isn't what you should be looking for. It does however excel in most other ways, the editing, photography, way over the top style and even the performances are decent. Franco Nero's tough-and-silent-type charisma has rarely been as effective. This may be the least political of Sergio Corbucci's spaghetti westerns and that is in some ways good and some ways bad (ie making it perhaps more accessible to a mainstream audience, but perhaps making it slightly more shallow at the same time).
Blue underground's dvd is excellent. The transfer is great and you rarely see a 1.66 AR film with a proper anamorphic release but this has it down perfectly. It also has the Italian soundtrack, which is a big plus as the dialogue (what little there is of it) is marginally better than the English. Other extras are fine all round. Word of warning though, the extra disc is a mini-dvd and contains a brilliant short with Franco Nero.
Highly recommended for (spaghetti) western fans especially, but also for anyone with an interest in the World Cinema explosion of the 60's and cult films. Beware of the unbelievably many films called Django something-or-other, there's only one...actually, I also recommend the very different and unrelated Django Kill! also available from Blue Underground.
Uninteresting.......2006-11-19
Once again we have a stranger with a score to settle. Of course, he is lightning fast with guns and never misses. Before it's all over ( I couldn't bear to watch it all) he's wasted scores of Mexicans and Americans both. Why exactly I'm not sure. The story takes a back seat to all the cruel, unusual and gratuitous violence. I don't mind violent movies but I'd at least like to have an interesting story to go with them. I kept trying to like this show. After reading reviews what I imagined sure had the real thing beat. I mean c'mon, a guy who drags a coffin around through the desert to some God forsaken mud hole of a town, just to waste about 300 or 400 guys who go up against him? Why it all matters I don't know. There were so many people getting shot that it was hard to remember what the story was about but it really wasn't worth remembering anyway.
DJANGO!!!.......2006-10-23
I had vaguely heard of this movie. I am a big fan of the Sergio Leone spagetti westerns but have seen very few other westerns of that genre. I also like Franco Nero after being exposed to him the first time in the movie The Salamander. I was looking up some info on Franco and I came across some info on his movies and read about Django. Many said that it was equal to the Leone westerns and that it was darker and more brutal. After watching it, and enjoying Django, I must say that I don't think that it is on par with any of the Leone westerns. That is not to say that it is not good though. When you consider that most of the time they didn't even have a script and that they improvised the script most of the time, it is a pretty entertaining movie. The cast of characters is really good and like Leone the faces that he comes up with to play the parts are all interesting. It is a down and dirty western with lots of mud, dirt, and plenty of really over the top violence including an ear scene that inspired Quenting Tarrentino to film his scene in Resevoir Dogs. The gun play is also cool and Django himself is one cool dude.
This movie of course is dumbed in English. Unlike the Leone westerns I don't think there are any English speaking actors. Nero is dubbed and the guy has the typical hero voice but it is ok (not great and if it was redone I would love to have somebody else dubbed in or Nero himself). I also liked the little documentary interview they did with Franco as well as the trailers they showed.
Again, it's a fun movie and Django and his coffin are dynamite in action!

Heartwarming family movie Classic .......2006-11-28
I bought this movie and watched it with my family and it was most heart tugging movie, some might think its corny but, i thought it wasn't. Its a great family movie with a great storyline and plot.
Wonderful holiday feature, possibly headed to classic!.......2005-11-08
We bought ANGEL DOLL after reading about it in a piece for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis (the film has a connection to this facility). Our expectations were not high, but the film was quite a pleasant surprise. There are no big stars in the movie, but the performances are solid and believable. I've seen my share of similar plot-lines (i.e., poor kid or family overcomes hardships to appreciate the true meaning of Christmas or friendship or loyalty or whatever. But Angel Doll does not cross into hokeyville. It manages to remain true to its themes and entertaining to the viewer. For the price, it's a wonderful value for any video collection.
THE ANGEL DOLL.......2005-03-12
I have watched this movie at LEAST 3 times! The young boy who plays WHITEY is EXCELLENT! The rest of the cast are fantastic.
The movie touches on predjudices and on CHOOSING how to act and beleive.
This IS a sad movie but one EVERYONE should watch. EXTREMELY WONDERFUL!
That a boy should love his sister so much that he spends his salary to buy her a special doll, is so heartwarming. It also shows how special friendships can be.
If you have not seen it DO SO! You will miss out on a great movie if you do not!
not quite.......2005-03-01
This appeared to be the kind of movie I like: a heart-warming family/Christmas movie. Yet, the movie was disappointing. The actors were likeable enough (luckily) and did a good job. So, what was it?
This is a nostalgia movie, not a Christmas movie, and the Doll comes in only at the end. Okay, nothing wrong with that. But like so many such movies, this one tried to mute every possible effect. First of all, use of a narrator put the audience at one remove from the story. On top of that, the events of the story happen to somebody else, not to the main character. The main character is merely an observer, which puts the audience at an additional level of distance from the story. As if that weren't enough, the screenwriter has the major event of the movie, the death of the little girl, happen off-screen. It is told, not shown. All of this makes for a movie of such emotional torpor that the story hardly touches the heart. And the story could have and should have. The effect of emotional tepidity is reinforced by the fact that there are only two events in the entire story, which means that for most of the screen time, "nothing" is happening, only the day-to-day life of a ten-year-old boy. Add to that a rug-pull ending: the event we have been waiting for...doesn't happen, and you have an unsatisfying viewing experience.
Bottom line: rent or borrow this DVD, since this is not a movie you'll want to watch more than once.
Inappropriate scenes for children.......2004-12-22
Angel Doll was a sweet, heart warming movie. Unfortunately, there were two scenes that ruined it as a family movie. The first was inappropriate shot of a customer's heavily endowed and exposed (on purpose) chest of one of the boy's customer on his paper route. The boys dicuss the display at a camp-out with the word "boob" being banted around excessively. Are they marketing this movie to families or to pre-teen boys? The other scense had nothing at all to contribute to the movie. It showed the main character showing his buddy how to rip off candy with out getting caught.
I thought the over all movie was great. I really enjoyed it when I didn't think about the inappropriate scenes to which I had just exposed my children.

Description
Horror goes to extremes with Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell, the goriest installment of the hit franchise yet. When Diana, a beautiful coed, discovers an ancient gem inside a mystical Persian case, she unwittingly releases the mercilessly evil "Djinn." The gut-slinging demon uses fiendish trickery to take the form of a professor in order to slice, dice and burn his way through the university staff and its students. If he can overpower Diana, his "waker," and grant her three sick and twisted wishes, the very gates of Hell will open up and engulf the world in eternal damnation. With help from the man she loves, she must impale the bloodthirsty demon with a sword from Heaven to save herself and the entire world.
Customer Reviews:
Terrible. Even if you like the Wishmaster, this one is tough to watch..........2007-03-30
Easily the worst of the four Wishmaster films. Andrew Divoff doesn't play the Djinn in 3 and 4 (wisely, I'm afraid) and the film suffers for it. At least he is entertaining to watch even if nothing spectacular happens. It doesn't even seem like they tried at all to make this movie any good. They ignore most of the mythology of the first two movies, and the actors involved are downright awful. Do yourself a favor and pretend they never made this one...
NOT AT ALL ENOUGH FOOTAGE OF THE DJINN DEVILISH MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-30
What ruined this movie was the fact that the Djinn(who looks like a devilish monster)was only shown for about 8 minutes(or less)throughout this entire 90 minute movie.(I did add up the minutes). And for most of the time, the Djinn was transformed into a blonde guy with beard and mustache that looked SO BORING!!!!!! When I watch a horror movie,I want to see a hideous looking monster for a good amount of time not only for 8 MINUTES or less!!!! Especially of the fact that the Djinn in devilish monster form looks extremely realistic and frightening.Too bad they didnt show much more of him in this hideous form.Im very upset.
The worst of the series.......2007-01-26
Other reviewers said it but I had to see it for myself. This is the worst of the series. The first two Wishmasters starred Andrew Divoff as the Djinn and had a different director. This installment features John Novak as the Djinn and there is a new director. Novak's performance is not bad at all. I actually liked him a lot. He is different than Divoff, but not necessarily better or worse. The trouble with this movie is that it deviates from the Djinn's usual duality of Djinn/Nathaniel and instead he becomes a totally different person for the whole movie. The character he takes over is dull and unemotional and totally not witty at all. Everything I love about his usual alter-ego is missing here. Aside from that, it is set on a college campus, which is always a recipe for disaster (or at least for cheesy plots). By far the worst part of this movie is when the heroine invokes St. Michael and he takes over her boyfriend. Geez! In some spiritual circles, St. Michael protects you by sending evil back from whence it came, so it made sense to me that she invoked him and I thought for a minute that this movie might improve, but when he took over the body of the boyfriend and turned out to be a total nothing, all hope sank for any plot improvements at all.
I give this movie 3 stars only for John Novak. He is the only redeeming quality in this movie.
I just saw this:.......2006-10-12
Because I own the combo-pack of 1 and 2 together that I paid the same price for ($5.99) but I only bought them because I love the makeup on Andrew Divoff (yes the second one was kinda lame and they used a different actor in the 3rd) the first and 2nd had Divoff and I liked the voice inflections that they did with his voice even though in the extras he sounds very similar to this but I did not understand why they sub-titled it 'Beyond The Gates Of Hell' - (Sword Of Jistice) - because there were no gates of hell in the entire film so I did not really understand that premise. I thought the scene of the woman puking up her stomach could have been deleted as it was disgusting and pretty much unecessary. It seems that they wanted a few people to toss thier cookies.
But now I think I might sell mine on Amazon now that I've seen it.
The only reason as to why I liked the first one was because it was directed by Wes Craven. The dialouge and some of the acting in this series was wicked clever.
So they killed the Djinn at the end of Beyond Gates The Of Hell with 'The Sword of Justice' so if the Djinn is dead then why did they make a 4th movie? They've never showed the rest of the legions from hell or the world between worlds where these demons are supposed to dwell in that poem, but as of this writing (10/11/06) I have no yet seen the 4th installment.
Very thin sequal.......2006-07-01
This is the weakest of the four in the Wishmaster series. I had forgotten how poor this was. If you have not seen the first two of this series, than this would movie would not bother you much. As a low budget sequal (such as the last few Prophocies and Hellraisers) I'm sure this was churned out in about 20 days of shooting and about 2 million dollars total to shoot. It meets all the expectations of a semi scary low budget horror/topless flashing girl thrill movie.
However, Since most people who see this have seen the other two, then you will find this Movie very poorly done. The finess of the Djinn character is lost due to the poor script. The way he gets people to to wish is not subtle, the rules set up by the other two are not really followed (1001 souls to collect, the "that which is eternal can not die" line, ect...). The acting affects at times are not congruent with the mood, again compounded by the poor script. And the story line of how they find the jewel in a fed-exed artifact, right out in the open is lame. 1000 years hidden in box out in the open, passing through many peoples hands, and in 5 minutes a curious college girl can find it. Not buying it. ALL in all, buy this movie for cheap, add it to the collection only for posterities sake if you are a collector, but spend no more than rental prices.

Customer Reviews:
An hour and a 1/2 that I will never get back!!!!.......2005-12-17
Well, I have officially just wasted an hour and a 1/2 of my life on a movie that is quite possibly the worst I have ever seen. Do not waste your hard earned money on this sorry excuse for entertainment. It was horrible!!! Even with the hottie from Unfaithful, it wasn't worth it. Do yourself a favor, and pass this one up!
Angel Of Crap.......2005-06-25
I'll put it simply: 'Angel Of Death' is a movie that should never have been made. Its embarassing.
Watching this borefest you will find it extremely hard to believe that Mira Sorvino once won an Oscar. My how she has fallen. She preens around Spain talking in the worst Spanish accent ever. In fact, its probably the worst accent ever done in any movie ever made. She plays some super-agent on the trail of some killers, who happen to look like KKK members only wearing red with hoods literally standing five feet straight up in the air. They're completely retarded looking. Helping Sorvino out is some hunky Spaniard who can barely complete a sentence(I'm sure he needed help finding his way home each night after shooting). The entire cast is pathetic, the dialogue supremely clunky, and the script is convoluted, confusing, and filled with gaps in logic.
The only decent thing in the film is the cinematography. The film is shot very well with a beautiful look. Too bad the rest of the movie sucks so much rectum. Obviously the cinematographer has some real talent but how he/she got roped into this bomb is beyond me.
So if you're in the video store and see 'Angel Of Death' on the shelf, nonchalantly open the case and break the disc in half so no one else has to suffer through this piece of trash. Ugh.
INSOMNIACS DELIGHT.......2005-06-16
ANGEL OF DEATH would be a good movie for insomniacs. It's incredibly slow and the plot is so convoluted and confusing, it's hard to keep up with it, if you even stay with it to the end. Mira Sorvino and Olivier Martinez sleepwalk through their roles, and it is only the glorious presence of Italian screen legend Alida Valli that induces me to give it two stars. She is marvelous as the elderly lady whose story is at the heart of the picture. She commands the screen with gentle elegance and she deserved a better movie than this.
El Lame-o.......2005-05-07
Mira is better than this. The writing is terrible, the dialog is lame, the acting is stilted, the directing is amatuerish. It's just plain bad. The story had potential, but it couldn't overcome the bad dialog and wooden delivery. I rented it because I'm a Mira Sorvino fan, but even she doesn't make it worth watching.
Banal, Thrill-less Thriller with Sleepwalking Mira Sorvino .......2005-03-25
Mira Sorvino and Olivier Martinez star in 'Angel of Death' (origianally called 'Semana Santa') produced by European film companies from as many as six countries -- Germany, Italy, England, France, Spain, and Denmark. The film was theatrically released back in 2002 in France. Since then three years have passed, but probably you still never heard of the film. No wonder, because the film is so bad, so dull, and so sleep-inducing.
While all the dialogues are spoken in English, 'Angel of Death' is set in Spain, and Mira Sorvino plays Maria, detective transfered from Madrid to Seville. During the celebration of Semana Santa, she is given a case of brutal murders, committed by a serial killer in red robe. With chauvinist cop Quemada (Olivier Martinez, 'Unfaithful' 'Taking Lives'), Maria starts the investigation, picking up the clues, and confronting the uncorporative section of the ... are you still listening?
The clithe-ridden script is no help when director (or whoever involved in this film) does not know how to show thrills and suspence on screen. When you see the killings on screen, they are all shown in the most banal way; you watch, 1) a victim; 2) a killer; 3) the former is attacked (with no preliminary part to enhance the tension, in the same fashion as cheap TV games), and 4) dead body or injured character. The film refuses to scare us, or even the victims themselves, and the results are utterly thrill-less thriller. That's surely achievement, sort of.
But what Mira Sorvino is doing here? Detective Maria Delgado, wearing tailor-made suit and skirt? She sports curious Spanish accent (which suddenly vanishes at times), but that is not the worst part of it. Her acting itself is probably the worst in her career, and she literally sleepwalks, and sometimes looks as if she knew this film would be a flop. Olivier Martinez, always oceracting, is no better, and I thought, isn't he a French? Only special appearance by Alida Vali ('The Third Man' and Dario Argento films like 'Suspiria') offers some dignity, and her character's flashback sub-plot is more interesting than the main one.
The director fails to show any clear motive of the killer. Consequently we see dead bodies, but have no opportunities to understand the reason for the killing. The police do not know even the rudimentary procedures of investigation, and are often so stupid that one of them does not do anything useful until the story comes nearly to the end, but all of a sudden he becomes wise, and gets the answer!
I give two stars simply because I like Mira Sorvino, who is Oscar winner (just in case if you forgot it). She's the only reason for two stars, and no other. Not that her acting is great. Don't say that I didn't warn you.

Muy Bueno.......2006-10-21
Excellent movie, not only accurate of Mexico's political culture but not far from the US's either. Funny dark satire, you won't regret buying this one.
Very provocative!.......2006-02-03
This film lends a surprisingly accurate (albeit quite satiric) perspective on the state of Mexico's political culture.
"In this country, honesty gets you nowhere.".......2005-03-19
After the third mayor of the dirt-poor town, San Pedro de los Saguaros is murdered, officials of the PRI party look for an idiot to take over the role. They chose Juan Vargas (Damian Alcazar), and send him off to the town to take control. Vargas and his wife, Gloria (Leticia Huijara) are appalled by the town. The town is basically a collection of dilapidated shacks with a population of about 100 people--mostly Indians. Even the school is stripped bare after repeated looting by various government officials. San Pedro has its own brothel run by the gloriously vulgar Dona Lupe. The town's doctor swears that all the evil in the town comes from the brothel, and that it's the mayor's duty to close it down. Vargas quickly learns that the town operates with bribes--even the corrupt priest demands one peso per sin in the confessional box. Urged on by his wife, Vargas returns to his superior, Lopez and asks for money for the town. Lopez hands him a gun and a heavy law book, and tells him that he's in charge ...
Using Herod's Law as his guide, Vargas proceeds to develop into a petty despot. An expurgated version of Herod's Law is "Do it to them before they do it to you." This handy-dandy motto then becomes the tool by which Vargas deals with the town.
"Herod's Law" is a political satire. The story begins in 1948 and the film satirizes the PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) that ruled Mexico from more than 70 years until it was replaced in 2000 by the Partido Accion Nacional. There's a sole American, Sam, in the story who becomes an advisor of sorts after a crafty car repair. Does the American engineer represent America's symbolic role for Mexico? That you must decide for yourself after watching the film. Note the role of Sam, the American is played by Alex Cox (director of "Sid and Nancy" and "Repo Man"). The film illustrates the utter corruption of an individual, and as I watched the film I thought of the quote from Lord Acton, "absolute power corrupts absolutely". "Herod's Law" was originally supressed by the ruling PRI government of Mexico, and it's a great tale of one man's corruption, but at the same time it's a blistering critique of 70 years of PRI rule. "Herod's Law" is in Spanish with English subtitles--displacedhuman
Very Funny Political Satire .......2004-12-06
This very funny movie satirizes the PRI party of Mexico, political corruption, and human nature. After the townspeople of a tiny, isolated, extremely poor Mexican town rise up against their corrupt mayor, the ruling party names a minor political functionary, selected for his stupidity, to preside over (and avoid trouble in) the town pending the selection of candidates for the next election. What ensues in illustration of the maxim that power corrupts is both hilarious and appalling. With amazing location shots that take you to the poorest regions of Mexico, where residents may not even speak Spanish, memorable characters (including an American), and a wonderful mambo orchestra score, this movie is definitely recommended.
This Movie Made Me Laugh Loudly.......2004-08-14
I am very pleased to see La Ley de Herodes with subtitulos. I have wanted to share it with friends who live here near the border [San Diego] but don't speak Spanish well enough to get some of the humor. This is a great piece of political satire. I am sorry it didn't have broader distribution in the US. It is really a remarkable movie, not often does one see film that is this viscious about the powers that be come out of Mexico. It is a part of the rebirth of Mexican cinema that is so enjoyable.

Oliver Grunner's best!!.......2002-12-05
Made in 1990, this was the era when low budget Martial Arts movies were excellently produced. Oliver Grunner plays Jaques Fontaine a French student who comes to the US as an exchange student. He boards in a household with an innocent family who continue to be harrassed by a gang of hoodlums. Grunner shows of his Kickboxing style in this martial arts extravaganza. Good Plot with dynamic fight sequences..one of director Eric Karson's best movies.
THAT MOVIE WAS GOOD IT SHOWS YA ABOUT THE BARRIO.......2001-11-14

If you are looking for a big Hollywoood production with special effects and great acting this movie is not for you.I have to admit, the movie is pretty bad,but like I tell my friends"it's the best worst movie you'll ever see"(for certain reasons I can't go into detail).Put it this way,if you are kinda picky with your movies, don't buy it.But if you got $20 to blow by all means get this movie. After all,I think a mere $20 is worth paying for a few good laughs:-)
