I enjoyed the movie very much. I'm a huge fan of Tom Selek.

5 out of 5 stars Tom Selleck Rides Tall in the Saddle.......2007-03-10

Team tall, handsome Tom Selleck with a Louis L'Amour classic, toss in Katherine Ross and Sam Elliott and you have western romance at its finest. Tom is one of these wonderful actors who is comfortable whether in the saddle or driving a red Porsche. He's totally believable. I would say integrity, honesty, and doing what's right is the trademark of the roles Tom Selleck chooses and this movie is a winner. It has romance, tension, conflict, good guys, bad guys and a happy ending. I highly recommend this movie. It's a keeper to be watched more than once.

4 out of 5 stars Keeping the western genre alive.......2007-03-08

I thought this movie did a fine job of keeping up the tradition of the old John Wayne, John Ford westerns. It was fast paced, the dialog was quite real, and I was impressed by the attention to detail in costume and scenery. I was especially impressed, being a civil war nut, in the port-rayal of the Confederate Major played by Geoffrey Lewis. He was not the villian of the piece, yet what he was doing was wrong. I loved the way his charactor reverted to the true southern gentleman whenever confronting Katherine Ross, until he realized his cause with her at least was lost. A fine film, although having the same three men play the brothers here as well as in the Sacketts was a bit strange. But they did a fine job, and Ben Johnson always did impress me as a bit of a rogue even though he usually played a good guy. Well done by all.

4 out of 5 stars The Shadow Riders.......2007-01-10

I truly enjoyed this Louis Lamour film. I love westerns and was a big fan of John Wayne. I see Tom Selleck as the closest actor to emulate The Duke in his presence on the screen.

4 out of 5 stars Good western with a strong cast.......2007-01-05

I am a very big Western fan, while this movie is entertaining I thought that it was a little short on action. But, if your a Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot fan (as i am) this is a wonderful addition to your western colletion.

3 out of 5 stars A little dissapointing...and hard on the knees.......2007-05-17

I had really high hopes for this workout set when I bought it. However, after 4 weeks I am just left with luke-warm feelings about it. I'm all for hard work and exercise, but a 58 min workout is a little over the top. The intensity of the final DVD, Burn It Up, is a little too much for 6 days a week. I have never had knee problems, and don't have that much to lose, but after starting the final DVD my knees really hurt. Muscle pain doesn't bother me that much, joint pain is another story. I somewhat doubt the safety of performing these exercises at such a demanding pace.

Frankly, I was really optomisic in reading reviews prior to purchasing this. Now, I think it's ok, but not worth the money. Personally, I wouldn't suggest doing the last DVD daily. You will get results (I lost 15 lbs), but is it worth the long term detriment to other body parts in an effort to get ripped abs? You can still acheive great results without going to this extreme. I think I'll use it intermittently with other forms of exercise.

3 out of 5 stars It works, she's cute, but it's frustrating.......2007-03-27

I bought this DVD at Target when i was looking for a new workout. The positive thing about this workout is the enthusiasm of the instructor. This workout comes in three sections. First one is 30 minutes, second one is 45 minutes and the third is 60 minutes. You are supposed to do the first one for a couple of days, the second workout for 2 weeks, and then to the last workout for the remaining weeks. If you are at an intermediate or advanced level, you will find the 30 minute workout waaaay too easy. I find myself doing only the 45 minute routine, because it makes the most sense. The third routine is extremely boring and repetitive. Ms. Seibers is terrible at cueing, which means that she jumps into the next set of exercises with little to no warning. This is most evident in the third routine.

A plus to these workouts is that you have the option of doing it with or without the music. The downside to this is that the workout was obviously filmed without music, so if you choose to use it with the provided music, the routines are not in sync with the beat. This is very annoying.

That all being said, I feel that you *can* get into shape if you follow this workout.

3 out of 5 stars Started great, then got bored.......2007-02-09

I was so excited about this program when I got it. I diligently did the first routine, really tried to push myself on the second one, but when I got to the third routine I was getting bored. Start it up, is 30 minutes, Ramp it up is 45 minutes, and Burn it up is nearly 60 minutes. If you don't mind working out for an hour, then you might like it. It definitely helped get me back into shape, but I prefer shorter workout (no more than 30 minutes), and I prefer not to get bored! The ab routine was pretty good, though.

I did lose some fat on this workout, but not as much as I had hoped. You have to be dedicated to work out 6 days a week.

5 out of 5 stars I've lost already.......2007-01-19

been doing it for a week and I notice a difference already.

2 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Money.......2006-11-01

For $72.80, there are definately better videos out there. One thing this video series did for me was to get me to set a goal and stick with it - even if I didn't use this series to reach that goal. The most frustrating aspect is Debbie's queuing. It is awful. She doesn't give enough advance notice of when she's about to change routines. This threw me out of rhythm too many times.

Because the music she uses is less than motivating, there is a "sound off" feature which allows the user to listen to their own music while doing the exercises. That is a definate plus.

I would have liked more variety as each program, "Start it Up!", "Ramp it Up!" and "Burn it Up!" repeat the same exercises with just one or two new routines in the "Burn it Up!" portion. I stuck with it for 4 weeks but dug out my old-but-good exercise videos to help me reach my fitness goal. With more variety and precise queuing, this series would've have been one of the best. However, it just doesn't deliver the quality you'd expect for the price.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Is it worth doing this for 90 days?.......2006-07-02

Power 90 is one of the greatest workout DVDS. As a 15 year old, i would say that its a good way to get that body you want. "Ab Ripper" is one of the best exercises. "Sculpt" is a good exercise to get muscles in your arms and chest. "Sweat" is real dull. You can get the same results from kicking, punching, and dancing. But it still works out your calves effectivly.

But one of the most annoying thing on this DVD is the commericals. Theres about 2 hours worth of "so-called" doctors pressuring to sell you vitamins that will help you get better results. As if i need more pressure... Also, is it worth doing the exercise every day for 90 days? But anyways, its a good DVD to get great results.

(P.S. I think Tony Horton is obsessed with people sweating. You'll see what i mean if you buy this DVD.)

5 out of 5 stars Great workout!.......2006-06-05

I have been doing power90 off and on for 2 years now and it really works. I lost 20 pounds when I began and have kept it off! I literally have become a walking billboard for Beach Body because of the great results I received. Tony Horton is a great motivator...a little goofy at times, but great nevertheless. If you change your diet and stick to this program you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars A great starter program.......2006-06-02

Looking for quick, easy way to get in shape? This is the program for you.

5 out of 5 stars Great Edition to Fitness Library.......2005-10-03

I really like this fitness program! I found it easy to learn the steps/moves/exercises and fun to do. Tony Horton is great! He is very knowledgeable, encouraging and likeable. The video production and graphics are fantastic! I recommend it for beginners and intermediates alike.

4 out of 5 stars Repetitive but overall a good workout.......2005-09-06

I agree that this program can get boring if you follow it for 90 days doing the same workouts over and over. I, myself, think I only made it the first 30 or so. However, you will find a solid workout here in both circuit and cardio. Tony Horton is a like-able guy, although he always cues his lefts and rights. The music also gets old pretty quick. I like the 100-ab routine because you go through them so quickly that it doesn't feel like you're doing 100 sit ups. I also really like the meter/timer on the side that shows how much you've done so far and how much further you have to go. I quit the "Power 90 program" long ago, but I still keep this DVD in my regular workout rotation.

Tommy and Tuppence Beresford show up rarely in Agatha Christie's books, but when they do, one thing's for certain: both they and the readers will have a good time. The same is true, for the most part, in this set introducing the adventure-seeking couple who take over a London detective agency. Oddly, Tommy and Tuppence made their television debut before Christie's better-known crime solvers, Hercule Poirot and Jane Marple. The video quality of the second two tapes (whose four episodes take place chronologically after the first tape, but were produced earlier) betrays a low budget, and the acting occasionally verges on farce--especially when it comes to Tuppence's obsession with hats. But then, the couple were always a lighthearted counterpoint to the more serious sleuthing of Poirot and Miss Marple. The lovely Francesca Annis (seen more recently in Wives and Daughters) is disarming as Tuppence, masking her shrewd eye with dippy charm; she may get the bellboy's name wrong every time, but she can spot the criminal faster than her straight-man husband. As Tommy, James Warwick expertly melds dinner-party suavity with bumbling boy-next-door charm. The pair are at their best in the two-hour feature "The Secret Adversary," which comprises the first tape. This tale of kidnapping and political intrigue reunites the childhood friends, thus beginning their life as Partners in Crime. --Larisa Lomacky Moore

5 out of 5 stars "Jolly Good Show!".......2007-01-16

Tommy and Tuppence are certainly my favorite Agatha Christie crime stoppers, and Francesca Annis and James Warwick give wonderful portrayals of the fun and brilliant pair.

4 out of 5 stars Amatuer to Professional.......2006-07-21

I watched this series on PBS originally and had fun watching in again. This set includes the pilot for the series and I had not seen it before. It gave a nice introduction to the two title charactors. The series starts out with the two taking over a defunct detective agency to help the British government catch a war criminal. They find after this case is cleared up that they enjoy the detecting business and the series goes on from there. Tommy and Tuppence handle each new challenge with verve and penache.

5 out of 5 stars Tommy & Tuppence are the best!.......2006-06-09

I watched Tommy & Tuppence in 1984 when I was 14. Now, a bit older, but still a huge fan of Francisca Annis,I enjoy them once again on DVD. As far as I am concerned, television doesn't get much better than this. Thanks not only to the lovely Francisca Annis, but also to just how all comes together and makes this work out so well. The actors, the decors, the music, the plots, this is exactly the kind of British mysteries we miss so much these days.
Also the theatrical way of acting, and the parody Tommy & Tuppence make of the detective business gives this series the kind of playful fun that makes it one of the most enjoyble tv series ever.

I secretly hoped Francisca could be almost Miss Marple by now, picking up the series from her predecessor who passed away in 1998, but I heard that despite that she is in her 60s now she still has the same good looks that make her the only actress alive that could rival Audrey Hepburn in style.
All I can say is: BBC, please film all the other Agatha Christie novels with this couple again!

3 out of 5 stars bottom end of the Christie quality scale.......2006-03-25

The married detectives solve crimes by blundering onto the solution. You should be able to solve several of these episodes within one minute of having the general situation revealed.

Once that is understood, the acting and sets are first rate. If you are into cultural anthropology, you will like the series. If you are into crime detection, you will be disappointed.

Tommy and Tuppence stars James Warwick and Francesca Annis as Agatha Christie's husband-and-wife team of detectives. Together they zoom around 1920's England in a very posh car and solve all kinds of high-society crimes, from forgery at an exclusive nightclub to the mysterious disappearance of an Arctic explorer's fiancée. The show benefits from two charming lead performances and some wonderful period details--Annis seems to change her hat and her dress every 30 seconds--but it is at best only moderately entertaining. The years have not been kind to this type of mystery, in which murder is the equivalent of an especially tricky crossword puzzle, offering the amateur sleuths an opportunity to avoid boredom and have a terribly thrilling time. Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple survive, both in print and on film, because the central characters are interesting enough to make us forgive weak plotting and a lack of depth, but Tommy and Tuppence don't have the staying power of Christie's more famous creations. Their adventures are fun in small doses, and if you're in the mood for some witty repartee, but otherwise this series is little more than a quaint relic of a bygone age. --Simon Leake

Description

Created in the 1920s by Agatha Christie, Tommy and Tuppence Beresford were the first to prove that two attractive and clever heads are better than one when it comes to solving mysteries. Fun-loving and flirtatious, they'd rather be working together on a tough case than doing almost anything else.

Francesca Annis (RECKLESS) stars as Tuppence, in stunning period outfits created especially for the series, with James Warwick (LILLIE) as the dry-witted and dapper Tommy. In this collection of six episodes from the popular TV series PARTNER IN CRIME, the stylish pair ply their trade as proprietors of Blunt's Detective Agency.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars An enjoyable romp through the swinging 1920s' London........2006-08-31

"The Secret Adversary" and the short story collection "Partners in Crime" (both from 1922) were Agatha Christie's second and third-ever book, but their quirky protagonists, Tommy and "Tuppence" (Prudence) Beresford, were not to share the eventful career of their colleague Hercule Poirot, who had debuted two years earlier with "The Mysterious Affair at Styles;" nor that of Christie's almost equally well-loved (and personal favorite) village sleuth Miss Marple, whose first adventure ("Murder at the Vicarage") would not be published until 1930. Christie only authored three more Beresford mysteries: 1941's "N or M?" (a WWII spy thriller set in a coastal guesthouse), 1968's "By the Pricking of My Thumbs" (where a visit to a nursing home prompts them to track down the real-life object of a painting, only to find themselves hunting for a child murderer) and "Postern of Fate" (1973), the last book written by Christie (although not the last one published); more a postscript to the superior earlier stories.

Not as eccentric as Poirot and Miss Marple, Tommy and Tuppence are nevertheless immediately likeable, and perfectly cast in this 1980 - 1982 TV series with Francesca Annis and James Warwick, reprising their successful collaboration from the 1980 realization of Christie's "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?" Taking its title from the second entry in the Beresford cycle, originally only the short stories contained in "Partners in Crime" were developed for television; "The Secret Adversary," although set earlier in the literary originals' sequence and providing critical background information on the couple's friendship, was only adapted as a feature film two years later. (The original order is restored in this video and DVD release, which features the couple's first and longest adventure as part of Set 1.)

Although "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" had already proved Christie to be a writer of exceptional talent, her first Tommy and Tuppence adventures - penned for financial reasons as much as out of a desire to write - still show her style as a work in progress, sometimes lacking certainty as to what exactly works in terms of characterization and storylines. While she succeeds, like in the first Poirot mystery, to immediately draw in her audience, and the Beresfords are presented in as much detail as the little Belgian with the many gray cells, the plotlines sometimes stretch credibility and have a whiff of the kind of story that Arthur Conan Doyle could get away with 20 years earlier, but which Christie herself (wisely) only took up infrequently later (and generally with more solidly constructed plotlines and often with Poirot as the main character). Thus, if the televised versions of these early Tommy and Tuppence stories appear somewhat less convincing than the subsequent, more acclaimed adaptations of Christie's Poirot and Miss Marple mysteries, this is at least partly owing to the literary originals themselves: The creators of the TV series reproduced the mysteries' "swinging Twenties" setting successfully and with a fine eye for detail; and Francesca Annis and James Warwick give terriffic performances as the vivacious, hat-loving Tuppence and her (almost) equally witty, slightly more settled husband.

Tommy and Tuppence's boisterous young assistant Alfred is portrayed by Reece Dinsdale (best known, since, as Guildenstern in Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet" and D.I. Scott in the mid-1990s British cop show "Thief Takers"); and there are recurrent appearances by British TV regular Arthur Cox as Detective Inspector Marriott, in the televised version chiefly responsible for establishing the couple as owners of Blunt's International Detective Agency (in the books, the agency is a cover for the Beresfords' spy activities), who informally continues to consult them whenever he feels that Scotland Yard's official capacities have reached their limits.

Although not quite on the level of Christie's more famous mysteries and their recent TV adaptations, this series is an enjoyable romp through the the swinging 1920s' London. And who knows - maybe 20+ years after its initial airing we'll see a realization of one of Tommy and Tuppence's later adventures? Annis and Warwick might be about the right age for "N or M" now ... or even better, "By the Pricking of My Thumbs," which unlike the earlier mysteries easily stands up with the best of Christie's other works!

4 out of 5 stars Partners in Crime-The Dame's Sense of Humor.......2006-07-21

I remember watching this series originally on PBS and enjoying it very much. I enjoyed very much watching it again. The chemistry between Tommy and Tuppence and their interplay is very entertaining. The Dame wrote this seried in a much more light-hearted vein than her usual books and the dramatization carries that humor through. The mysteries are a bit shallow but it's fun to watch these two amatuer turned professional detectives.

3 out of 5 stars bottom end of the Christie quality scale.......2006-03-25

Sunningdale Mystery

Pure deduction

After the Grate World War, Tommy Beresford (James Warwick) and Tuppence (Francesca Annis) are out of work and form a partnership in a detective agency. They eventually marry and continue their detection business. On the surface they look like they are stumbling into the answer of each mystery they solve. But upon further observance they are cunning and resourceful.

In this "The Sunningdale Mystery" story by Agatha Christie and screen play adapted by Jonathan Hales, the international Detective Agency is not finding enough clients so they go out to solve a mystery found in the paper.

In this mystery part of the Tommy and Tuppence, "partners in crime" series, Tommy and Tuppence actually go to the scene of the crime, do their deductions in Hercule Poirot fission using the little gray cells. It is unique in the fact that they do not interview any suspects.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ambassador's Boots

Solve a crime and have fun to boot

After the Grate World War, Tommy Beresford (James Warwick) and Tuppence (Francesca Annis) are out of work and form a partnership in a detective agency. They eventually marry and continue their detection business. On the surface they look like they are stumbling into the answer of each mystery they solve. But upon further observance they are cunning and resourceful.

In this "The Ambassador's Boots" A story by Agatha Christie and screen play adaptation by Paul Annett, Tommy and Tuppence have just saves someone from an international kidnapping. So at an exclusive party they are introduced to the ambassador from the United States.

Later the Ambassador tells them of a mystery where his bag got mixed up with another. You may have guessed that his bag contained his boots. Even though it seems trivial Tommy and Tuppence are determined to get to the bottom of why the bags were swapped and then the other party denies it ever happened.

For some reason you get the feeling that they are just acting and everyone is just going thru the motions. Do not get discourages as it is part of the plot to get to the bottom of the mystery. You will find that the Partners in Crime" are more cunning and coordinated than they look.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Case of the Missing Lady
You will want to get the real skinny on this one

Agatha Christie's "The Case of the Missing Lady" adapted by Jonathan Hale.

The Scene opens with a moaning lady; hovering over her is a brute assistant Muldoon to what looks like a mad doctor and his Brunhilda looking assistant. To make matters worse there is the biggest hypodermic syringe ever conserved by man. It is half full of green glop.

Gabriel Stovington just returned from a two year stint in the artic and is getting the runaround while trying to find his fiancé. He is in need of a detective agency.

After the Great War Tommy Beresford (James Warwick) and wife/ assistant Tuppence (Francesca Annis) buy the Blunt International Detective agency. And with out any background become detectives. By the time you get to this episode they are getting good at it (maybe).

The acting at first make you thing that you are sitting in the front row of a Bernard Shaw play.

Of course it is an obvious secret message. However being clever they figure that the message is some sort of rendezvous. It is to take part at the Three Arts Ball (costume ball) where one of the sleuths gets to dress up as Sherlock Homes and the other as Dr. Watson. One guess as to who gets to be homes.

After the ball is over, like most of the revelers, they go to xxx to have a drink an early breakfast. There they notice a man costumed as the local paper entering a private booth with a woman and coming out alone. We are way ahead of them on the plot

As with most of the "Partners in Crime" series we are fare ahead of them on the whom. The fun is to watch them figure out not only the whom but the other details. This story is a period piece of just after The Great War.

Made for TV and fairly transparent, this film still has all the ambiance of a BBC Agatha Christy production. It is a period piece and employs many major English actors. Detective Inspector Marriott (Arthur Cox) played the newspaper reporter Salcombe Hardy in Dorothy L. Sayers' Have His Carcase (1987).

In this "The Crackler" A story by Agatha Christie and screen play adaptation by Gerald Savory, Tommy and Tuppence are approached by inspector Marriott (Arthur Cox). He has a problem with funny money and needs someone with class to do a little snooping in the hoity-toity crowd to find the culprit(s). The inspector suspects it is a gang.

The partners in crime will be forced to go night clubbing and dancing. There are many suspects and they need to be narrowed down. They are aided by the third detective young Albert (Reece Dinsdale).

While they seem to be lead around by the nose we may be able to figure the plot but are the duo that naive or the cat's meow.

The Man in the Mist

Do they have a ghost of a chance?

After the Grate World War, Tommy Beresford (James Warwick) and Tuppence (Francesca Annis) are out of work and form a partnership in a detective agency. They eventually marry and continue their detection business. On the surface they look like they are stumbling into the answer of each mystery they solve. But upon further observance they are cunning and resourceful.

In this "The Man in the Mist" A story by Agatha Christie and screen play adaptation by Gerald Savory, Tommy and Tuppence are just finished with a mystery that they almost solved. They just happened to guess wrong.

Mean time Tommy is still in his disguise as Father Brown when a new mystery falls into their lap. A well known actress seems to be in some sort of trouble and asks Tommy for his help. Naturally it is too late.

This must have been a longer story because when it got pared down too many details are missing Also all the things that we can not stand in a murder mystery are found here; there are too many read herrings just for the viewer (Not observed by the Partners in Crime). And the last person suspected will be found out by sleuthing not present to the viewers.

Still it is fun to watch and speculate. Also you get to learn a little of the period.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Unbreakable Alibi

Now you see her, now you don't

Agatha Christie's "The Unbreakable Alibi" adapted by David Butler.

After the Great War Tommy Beresford (James Warwick) and wife/ assistant Tuppence (Francesca Annis) buy the Blunt International Detective agency. And along with Albert, of whom they picked up on their first attempts at sleuthing are now in business.

Unfortunately, due to lack of crimes, things are going so slow that Tommy is doing the crossword puzzles; Tuppence is learning to be the perfect secretary by practicing sitting on Tommie's knee. Albert is reading detective comics.

Finally a client Mr. Montgomery Jones with a unique problem. It turns out that he bet an Australian woman Unna Frek that he could see through any alibi; she says not. The bet is on if he wins they marry. If not She disappears from his life. Looks Like he is in need of a good detective agency which guarantees 24 hr results.

She give two stories of being in tow places at the same time and he must fined out which one is true and which one is false.

The "Partners in crime" can not turn down the challenge.

During the investigation, Mr. Blunt (Tommy) passes off Tuppence as Miss Robinson, his sister so every man they come across makes advances.

Investigation both stories they find both to be true. The 24 hours are just about up.

This is a great series that grows on you. The have it has that British series feel with background music. It is similar to the Dorothy L. Sayers "Peter Whimsy" series.

4 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as Poirot but fine on its own terms.......2002-03-25

Thank goodness for Acorn Media, which has given us the Wimsey mysteries on tapes and DVD, the longer Poirots on DVD and the shorter ones on tape. With the arrival of "Partners in Crime" (AMP 5017), there lacks only the 12th boxed set of Poirots to more or less complete the Christie cycle as it exists on this label. (It is A&E who has begun to issue the Marple mysteries on DVD and a few of the more recent Poirots.)

The best thing about this "Tommy & Tuppence: Partners in Crime" series is the outrageous costumes Francesca Annis gets to wear, the most spectacular appearing in the last episode in this boxed set. Now this is featherlight Agatha Christie, so do not expect the complex kind of case that Wimsey always--and Poirot often--has to solve. The inside joke of the T&T novels is that in each one they emulate the techniques of a famous fictional detective. For example, in one episode Tommy (James Warwick) is dressed as Father Brown and the last mystery is described by the team as a real Edgar Wallace case.

"The Case of the Missing Lady" is probably the silliest of them all, and even Tuppence is required to do a comic turn that is frankly embarrassing. "The Unbreakable Alibi" has a solution that is utterly predictable, while the same could be said about the culprit in "The Man in the Mist." "The Crackler" is probably the most satisfactory.

All in all, good lightweight fun, but few thrills. And the Annis character can get a little "too too" now and then and start to grate in a way that she does not in the novels.
Unlike the Poirot tapes, these hold two episodes each. They easily could have gotten three onto each tape, but the people at ABC overseas seem to be able to dictate how the American distributors must package their material. So do not blame Acorn Media for that.

Description

Terence Hill stars as 'Nobody' - the fastest gun in the West, in a film which takes a more satirical view of how things really happened than the history books would suggest. Superb supporting roles by Klaus Kinski as 'Doc Foster' and Patrick McGoohan as the less than honest cavalry officer make this a thoroughly enjoyable spaghetti western. Sergio Leone co-directed this film but chose to remain uncredited.

I liked this as much as My Name is Nobody even though its way less arty. Especially funny was the part near the beginning when Hill gets to town and is dumped out of the coach into the dust with his saddle, but he just lays there in the street with the carts and horses going by until he finishes his nap.

EXCELLENT WORKOUT DVD BY CHALENE JOHNSON

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-04-10

I own nearly all the Turbo Jam videos, and Cardio Party Mix 2 is by far my favorite. The energy from the Turbo Jam cast is infectious (everyone seems to be truly enjoying themselves, which is a stark contrast to other subdued videos), which makes this work out so much fun. And by having so much fun, you'll forget you're even working out and the time just flies by! Personally, I really enjoy the dancier moves in this, as compared to the other TJ videos, because it really burns off a lot of steam for me. Like the other reviewer said, the moves might be tricky if you're not familiar with Turbo Jam, but once you do it a few times, they should come naturally. I highly recommend this video!

4 out of 5 stars Another fun Turbo Jam cardio workout.......2007-02-10

Cardio Party Mix 2 is the second Turbo Jam video I have tried); the other is Cardio Party Mix 1, so I'll be comparing and contrasting the two in this review. Instructor Charlene Johnson again leads a large class of mostly the same participants from CP1; Mindy and AnnaRita again show lower-impact modifications. Those who have not yet done one of Chalene's workouts will find her cueing to be a bit lacking, but if you are already familiar with Turbo Jam, you should have no problems following along.

The 4-minute CP2 warm-up is very similar to CP1: Chalene begins with a few shoulder rolls, reviews each of the punches (jab, cross, hook, and upper), and then goes into the same series of stretches. The first cardio segment is about 7 minutes long, and it begins with 4 jabs to the front. Chalene adds on the turbo twist (jab-cross-jab-knee) and eventually incorporates uppercuts as well to form a little combo. After completing the combo to the one side, you do jab-knees plus a pump with a jab, then go back and repeat the original combo on the other side.

The second cardio segment is 6 minutes long, and Chalene says at the beginning that she's going to bring down the intensity (unlike in CP1, which seemed to get increasingly intense up until the turbo). She starts with a march (one-two-three-knee), eventually changing the knee lifts to front and back push kicks, then adding repeater knees to form a combo. The second combo consists of 1) a speed bag with a crunch to either side followed by uppercuts, and then 2) a knee up with one punch diagonally up, one punch diagonally down. You then repeat the first combo to the other side.

The pace picks up a bit in the third cardio segment, also about 7 minutes long. Standing in horse stance, you'll do 4 cross punches with a zig-zag knee, eventually adding on a single-single-double punch. The next combination includes a turbo jab (a side shuffle with 3 jabs and then a cross) and clockwork (jab-cross-jab-cross to the side, then repeated to the front). After repeating to the other side, you're ready for the turbo: a 1.5 minute high intensity segment. Here, Charlene begins with a jump squat, moves into fast punches and jab-knees, and ends with both fast and high jogs.

Following the turbo, there is the usual 30-second water break, and then a 7-minute "dance recovery" segment (which I didn't find to be very dancey at all). In this segment, you'll combine a step front/side kick-step back/speed bag with a knee/side push to either side. For some reason, this sequence felt very awkward to me, and I found myself frequently off the beat. The second combo consists of a side shuffle with 6 side jabs, a punch up/punch down, and squat/claps in-between. The 4.5 minute finale is very similar to CP1 except that the order is reversed: you'll start with high-low jabs to the side, then do quick crosses to the front with a knee, eventually adding a single-single-double cross. However, I thought that this segment did not have the same revved up feel as the CP1 finale.

Finally, you'll begin lowering your heart rate with finesse, a 3-minute segment of slow steps and kicks. The moves are a bit more complex here than in the finesse segment of CP1, yet they are performed slowly enough that they're easy to pick up quickly. The 2-minute cool-down consists of about 1 minute Tai Chi moves and 1 minute of brief stretches, bringing the entire workout time in at just under 43 minutes.

Overall, I did enjoy this workout, but not as much as CP1 for several reasons. First of all, whereas I thought the music in CP1 was a lot of fun and I recognized several of the tunes, this wasn't the case here (at the end of the DVD, I saw that "Baby Got Back" was listed, and although I know this song, I didn't notice it either of the two times I did the workout!). Secondly, I found that my heart rate varied more during this workout than with CP1; I had to make a conscious effort to keep the intensity level up. Third, Chalene instruction was more subdued in this workout, which kind of decreased the overall energy level and took away some of the fun factor for me. Finally, I simply found the individual exercises and combinations in CP2 to be less enjoyable. In addition to finding the dance party segment to be awkward, I also found the side shuffles (used in both the 3rd cardio segment and the dance recovery) to be repetitive as well as difficult given my limited room to move side-to-side in my exercise space.

In summary, though, like CP1, this is a still a solid, fun, and fairly intense cardio workout, and so I think that most people who enjoy CP1 (and other Turbo Jam workouts) would enjoy this as well.

2 out of 5 stars ORIGINAL PROGRAM ON HBO WAS BETTER-A SHAME THAT SOME GOOD COMEDY WAS CUT OR EDITED OUT.......2006-06-16

I remember watching Robert Townsend and His Partners In Crime back in the 80's on HBO. The Volume 1 DVD has some of the comedy items I remember, but it has unfortunately been edited or cut up and is not like the original was. One skit I recall in particular that was one of the funniest things I have seen to date was called "Farters Anonymous", where people confess that they are hooked and addicted, but the center helped them. As they continue, you realize they are talking about a rather large flatulance problem that they have overcome. At the end, several members of this group hold candles say their first name and admit they are a "farter" or they "poot", until one fellow admits that he just ate a "big old can of beans". The group immedately blows out the candles as a 1-800-555-POOT number flashes across the screen. This item is not in this DVD, which I found very dissapointing. However, I did enjoy watching the black version of "Dynasty" again and some of the stand up comedians were pretty funny. To sum it all up in a nutshell, I was not particularly thrilled with Volume 1 of Partners In Crime. It is rather blase. I have not watched Volumes 2 and 3 as yet, but hope that some of the missing comedy items I remember are included.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for any true comedy fan.......2005-12-26

So glad to find this on Amazon! As a teen, my friends and I watched the entire series. We still laugh about it and ocassionally repeat lines from the show. There is a lot of talent packed into this program. Many of his "Partners In Crime" were virtually unheard of when the special aired on HBO back in the 80's. An easy way to own footage of today's top sitcom and movie comedians before they made it big. Check out their style and see what they were like before blowing up. If you're a true fan of comedy, then this dvd is for you. This will no doubt become a classic (it already is in my book).

5 out of 5 stars Classic!.......2005-08-18

I taped (put a small stereo to the tv and made an AUDIO tape) of this routine when it aired on HBO when I was young because I loved it so much. The range and talent in this production is rarely seen all together. I've been searching for the DVD and I am so happy to have finally found it. Paul Mooney we love you!

3 out of 5 stars white man and black man in the laboratory.......2005-02-17

When the title said "partners" I assumed they meant a romantic relationship between a black woman and a white man that might have been outlawed pre-Loving v. Virginia. But these are same-sex research partners. Vivien is a black man. (One of the first black men to serve in Congress was named Blanche, an appellation usually associated with women nowadays.) When the title says "Heart," it is actually referring to the organ. This work demonstrates that Charles Drew and George Washington Carver were not the only great African-American scientists. This documentary shows how a rich, credentialed white doctor depended upon his black research assistant who didn't get the opportunity to attend college, though born into the black community's elite. In the photographs that they show, it becomes very clear that some institutions which excluded blacks of all genders did include white women; the reverse of how voting rights were won. Later in the documentary, a white female doctor helps the duo find a way to cure children with heart defects. This is a great documentary for watching during Black History Month. It may be inspirational to blacks (of any gender) and women (of any race) who plan to practice medicine. Disney's "The Fox and the Hound" was a metaphor about whether white men and black men could be friends pre-1960s. This documentary touches on that same theme. It almost reminded me of the numerous interracial buddy flicks made by numerous black and white male actors. In this film, there are far more reenactments than there are actual photos. This suggests a paucity of visual details which is surprising given that this event happened less than 100 years ago. This investigation into cross-race, cross-sex progress in a time of inequality may inspire many patriots and enthusiasts of American history.
