Uma Thurman, swords, kung-fu,& Quentin Tarrentino ... how can you go wrong?

All grown men have a little boy in their heart that still surfaces every now and again...some fellows more so than others, and it's always so much fun to go back. That is one of the many reasons I enjoy having a son waiting to greet me when I come home from a day of work or a long business trip. On the flip side, Quentin Tarantino gets to go back to being a boy every time he goes to work, and I say good for him.

The Kill Bill movies are a potent effusion of likely all the things Quentin grew up with. Westerns, Kung-Fu movies, Samurai movies and other action films that helped mold and create his robust imagination. Now, he can take the ideas that inspired him as a child and make them even better for the next generation of action-craving bloodthirsty little children. Kill Bill volume 2 is more than a derivitive tribute film, it is an elicitation of massive nostalgia, excentuated keenly by incredible dialogue. Other than function well as a conclusion to the series, it is actually quite different from Kill Bill volume 1 in a few ways. Kill Bill volume 1 contained mostly introductions, followed by bloody action as Beatrix Kiddo took on and took out Vernita Green, O-Ren Ishii, Go-Go Yubari and of course the Crazy 88 (yes, all 88 of them). But in Kill Bill volume 2, I felt like those were merely the supporting villains as Kiddo takes on the more resourceful and profound antagonists in this film; Elle Driver, Budd and of course Bill himself. The sequel, unintentionally perhaps as the two were written and filmed together, possesses more depth than the first part. There is more room for dialogue and that is of course a great thing because outrageous and unlikely dialogue is one of Quentin's strengths, and it serves here to make the characters even more unearthly and super-hero-like then in the first film.

Overall, in volume 2 we get to see how Beatrix learned her skills and we learn more about the relationship between her and Bill. It all leads up to an often criticized climax between Bill and Beatrix. Between the dialogue and David Carradine's performance, the climax helped me enjoy this film a bit more than volume 1. So, if you prefer action and violence you will like the first movie better, but if you just so happen to get caught up in the characters along the way and have an appreciation for the kind of concentrated cultural yearning crossed with mythical level characters that only a Tarantino film can deliver, then Kill Bill volume 2 is a great cap to the two films. For me, simply put, together they make one amazing movie.

Vol 2 is better.......2007-05-27

You've seen vol 1 and thought do I really want to sit through another 2 hours of swords and kung-fu? Well vol 2 is the much better film, so the answer is yes.

Curiously enough although Vol 2 is longer, it seems to have a tighter construction. Some of the chapters are breath-taking, perhaps because they are shorter. The Pai-Mei chapter is simply marvellous. Uma Thurman gets her training with Pai Mei and Bill tells her "remember no sarcasm, no back-talk at least not for the first year or so, gonna have to let him warm up to you"! The Pai Mei chapter ties a lot of things together as well.

Oh yes in vol 2 we get to see Bill for the first time. David Carradine is great, very cool, and occasionally seems to become Kwai Chang Caine again all these years later.

I'd recommend seeing Vol 1 first, although it isn't quite as essential to do this, as it is to watch vol 2 after watching vol 1.

This is fabulous entertainment made by a master film-maker and I strongly recommend it.

kill bill vol. 2.......2007-04-19

i tend to bounce back-and-forth in my mind as to which half of the "kill bill" story i like better. as of writing this review, i'm going to have to go with "vol. 2", perhaps just because it's the one i've seen more recently, but i'm thinking there's more to it than that, so i'll try to get to those points instead.

first off, this really is like splitting hairs, picking which volume is better. now, believe all of those who point out how incredibly different the movies are because they are absolute night and day, but equally good and, more importantly, equally enjoyable.

i guess the one and only edge that i'd have to give "volume 2" is that the character's you get to spend time watching in this half (alongside the Bride, who is just as awesome here as in "vol. 1") are just more in-tune with what i like to see. for example:

-i LOVE the character of Bill, and found the scenes between he and the Bride to be among my favorite ever "ex-lover" face-off's in all cinema. they're is certainly a nastiness to the scenes, but you can SEE the two of them still deeply caring for another, despite themselves, esp. upon the conclussion of their showdown. it is just excellent.

-Michael Madsen's Bud is quite possibly the most difficult character to not like in any movie ever. despite his actions toward the Bride (no more detail. don't want to ruin anything in case you haven't seen it.), you just can't help but kinda feel for the guy. i mean, a dude that has to take junk off his boss, clean up nasty toilet water at a [...]-hole strip bar, then go home to his El Paso trailer to sit alone and listen to Johnny Cash records just kinda screams "feel bad for me" even if we really don't wanna. Bud is awesome, and i like having more of him, so yet another nod to "vol. 2".

-Pei Mei is freakin' awesome, esp. if you love the old kung-fu movies that the "kill bill" series was so lovingly created to replicate. awesome!

-Elle Driver is my absolute favorite member of the divas, so her being more prominant in this half alone makes me love it, love it, love it! just EXACTLY what a "bad guy" bad girl should be, man. all this, and the revelations made during the throwdown between she and the Bride just makes that fight (and the conclussion of said fight) SO much cooler it's just insane!

there is one more character in this movie that i thought was a really neat addition, but to talk about this is to REALLY ruin the movie, so just in case, i'll let you guys decide who you think belongs in this fifth spot.

overall, "kill bill" start-to-finish is outstanding in everyway, but i wanted to yack about "volume 2" today, so that's that. thanks for reading and enjoy!

A Letdown.......2007-04-03

I liked the first volume, despite the fact that it was mostly plotless, because it was very pretty in all its carnage. Volume 2, however, spends a lot of time on a plot that bothered me more and more when I thought about it. In the end, I found it overly simplistic and irritating (trying not to give anything away here). I kept waiting for a twist that never came. While the first volume was mostly fluff, a lot of style with no substance, it was enjoyable as that at least. The second volume has more plot, but this does not end up as more substance. But in the second volume, the time that is spent on the plot takes away from the style and we end up with two and a half hours which are not very enjoyable.

Tarantino knows what he's doin', this is truly fodder for the children of suburbia, all the ones who were nurtured on sugar crisps & little league & sesame street & soccer moms & commuter dads, little tubeheads this is your stuff. *Bad language* woowoo, daughters of charlies angels meet asian martial arts movies woowoo.

Bad stuff, like thinking robitussin is a high, imitation of life. hahahaha.

Cool.......2007-06-23

While watching the Kill Bill movies, one word continuously and irresistibly comes to mind: cool. Scenes are shot from cool angles, flush with cool colors, at cool speeds, with cool characters that communicate in cool dialogues, all set to the tone of cool music.

Like the Godfathers I&II, Kill Bill immediately jumps right into the plot's heart. Initially mysterious elements are then illuminated as the story repeatedly sidles back through each character's past.

Uma Thurman's character avenges her former assassin squad colleagues one-by-one as payback for their having tried to murder her on the eve of her wedding. Her brutal violence and feverous hatred make her a textbook anti-hero character similar to Clint Eastwood's "man with no name" persona in old Sergio Leone Westerns.

With so many other movies featuring fight scenes, it's not easy to produce ones that hold the viewer's interest; however, Kill Bill's do because they blend the right combination of novelty, violence, creativity, suspense, and general eye-pleasingness.

If you're worried about violence, you shouldn't let that deter you from watching this series. There are some bloody parts, no doubt; however, perhaps because the violence is seemingly deserved, just twisted enough to be more comical than gross, or somehow alluringly cool, it doesn't seem quite as bad as it should.

If you want to see a cool movie, see this one.

Love it or Hate it - I just happen to love it!.......2007-06-08

After reading the other reviews, good and bad, I just decided to chime in with my two cents.

To be quite honest, I love this movie. Tarantino must have had an amazing time making it, and that shows up in the final product. It's just fun to watch. It introduces those of us who aren't very familiar with the kung-fu genre to it and makes us want to go watch a bunch of them. Volume 2 does the same with spaghetti westerns. These movies are like a crash course in Grindhouse-type cinema. I noticed one reviewer who negatively critiqued the film commented on the black and white photography during the fight scene-Quentin had to do that to get it past the MPAA; the Japanese version is all color. Anyway, the movie was a blast, and if you can stop being a snooty cinephile for about 2 hours, you should have a blast too.

Brilliant, Not For Everyone However.......2007-05-29

My first viewing of this volume in the Kill Bill saga occurred at two in the morning, as I suffered from severe insomnia. I was desperate, hoping that it would help me drift off. Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately, this film did anything but. The action, cinematography, and witty script blew me away; I loved it. The next day, however, I was surprised to learn that many people I knew did not feel the same way as I did regarding this flick. Willing to form a better opinion of the movie and shrugging the fact that I loved it off to simply being overtired, I watched it again.

I still loved it. And herein was where I realized that this film is not for everyone. As it is a homage film, a tribute to Spaghetti Westerns and Kung-Fu flicks, one must look from this perspective. I myself enjoy these genres of film and lapped up Tarantino's unique and witty take on them. It is apparent (as it is in most of his work) that he is a great fan as well.

As mentioned numerous times by others, there is gore abound here. Ridiculous violence, blood spurting everywhere, and bodies flying constantly. But somehow Mr. Tarantino, and you may call him sick or twisted for it, made all the slicing and dicing humorous and never too serious, witty lines and funny visuals all the way through. True cinematic genius in my book.

On the surface it looks like a senselessly violent revenge movie, but underneath it is far more. Like most of Tarantino's films, Kill Bill is riddled with culture references and contains a wonderfully varied soundtrack; absolute joy for the pop culture buff. It is a cleverly written, and the wonderful talent of all involved is clearly exhibited.

On to the acting, Uma Thurman is a true standout. Prior to this film I hadn't thought much of her, even believing her to be overrated. This one role of hers changed my opinion completely. Thurman is brilliant as "The Bride"; her piercing eyes and intense persona portray a woman out for revenge amazingly. Lucy Liu is also impressive as a cold Yakuza headlady, and Vivica A. Fox and Daryl Hannah both provide great supporting roles as well.

Overall this film is most definitely not something that everyone will go for- in fact, most will find it odd for the first ten minutes or so, but stick with it. This film is one of the most brilliant in recent years, even though it might not hit you with its depth right away. Highly recommended.

**By the way, make sure to buy Volume 2 along with your purchase of Volume 1- the films were intended to be one but due to time constraints two were made, as you see them now. It will add for a more complete viewing experience, not to mention the cliffhanger at the end of the first.

it is a very interesting foreign film, it stays action packed for most of the movie. but be warned this movie has a few cheesy moments. anime fans should like this live action movie.

Battle Royale Flush more like it........2007-03-17

Battle Royale II takes all the substance out of what made the original so compelling ... the character studies, the story arc, the underlying social commentary.. and what have you... leaving a hokey... sci-fi channel movie production quality neck blowing up fest. Now that shouldn't be the worst thing ever... sacrificing story substance for cheese at least sounds like a fun time...case and point-Howard the Duck or Snakes on a Plane. but they sacrificed the fun too.... this movie is boring and every scene drags. This is a "cash in" film, and a horrible one at that. File with Weekend at Bernie's 2, Mannequin 2, American Psycho 2 (starring Mila Kunis of That 70s show), Beverly Hills Cop 3, Honey we shrunk ourselves, Secret of Nimh 2, The Neverending Story 2, The Ring 2,... you get the point... although Mannequin2 and Weekend at Bernie's 2 were easier to sit through.

Battle Royale II.......2007-02-21

Unfortunately this sequel to the amazing cult classic doesn't stack up to the original at all. Despite the disappointing movie I was very pleased with the DVD itself. It comes in a well packaged case and there are plenty of extras on the DVD to keep you busy. The product itself was very good, I wish I could say the same for the movie.

An Excellent Sequel.......2007-01-15

It has been three years since the original Battle Royale and Shuya Nanahara has formed a terrorist group known as the Wild Seven, which consists of previous Battle Royale Winners. The government passes a new Battle Royale Act, the Millenium Anti-Terrorism Act. A class of delinquents, Shikanotoride Junior high Class 3-B, is selected.

In this program, the class works as a group and has 3 days to kill Shuya Nanahara. Also, their collars are linked together with another student, and if their partner dies, they die.

There has been much criticism on this film. one is that the class teacher, Riki Takeuchi, overracts too much and the acting is horrible. HIS DAUGHTER DIED!! He may act crazy, but we also get to see his other side, how he is torn apart inside, and tries to do the right thing. Also, some say their is a lack of character development. Such was the case in the first film. Do we learn much about Yuichiro, Tadakatsu, Mizuho, Kaori, Tatsumichi, Yoshio, Mayumi, Izumi, hiroshi, Ryuhei, or Sho? We don't, but we still feel bad for them, because they had to fight their classmates. In BRII, they don't try to kill each other, but they are terrified! numerous do not speak, but they are still teenagers who lost their lives. We feel sorry for all of them. Actually, I think this movie expands on the main characters even more. Instead of having tons of out of place falshbacks, most of the time their personality shows through their action and dialogue. Shuya may be different too, but he had to live through the experience of seeing his friends die.

I must admit, this movie is not perfect, and may seen boring sometimes, but you should appreciate it for what it is. Don't go into it thinking it will be exactly like the first film, because it is not. It has completely
different concepts, because it is a different movie. Be sure to have an open mind when you see it.

Many of the films are not viewable. But if you want to be transported back to the 1970's it's a quick trip. Now, with the power of the DVD remote you can turn it off when the bad dubbing gets bad and the sudden nudity pops up right after a fight scene.

Some of the titles in MARTIAL ARTS 50 MOVIE PACK are so obscure, very little information could be gotten about them. A couple of selections here are from a long-forgotten American TV series. There's even a few spaghetti-karate films thrown into the mix. The majority however originate in the Far East: Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Lots of choreography went into the making of these movies; undoubtedly, there were a few unintentional injuries along the way, too. The action and pratfalls are non-stop and the plots mere window dressing for the foot-to-head combat scenes. For all martial arts fans these cinematic slugfests are sure-to-please.

Craptacular!.......2007-02-17

This collection is well worth every penny you'll spend on it, as long you enjoy this film genre. Personally, these movies evoke more laughter for me than most of the comedies being currently released. Some of the movies don't really qualify as martial arts movies - in particular, I'm referring to Black Cobra 1, 2, and 3 - three of the worst movies ever made. These movies, starring former NFL player Fred "The Hammer" Williamson would more appropriately be categorized as action movies, although there isn't a Hell of a lot of action in them. I digress. The point is that there are maybe 3 punches thrown in the entire first movie. It's definitely not a martial arts movie. Most of the movies in this collection, however, are exactly what you would expect. In particular, there are three movies, Ninja Death 1, 2, and 3 that are so awful that they border on greatness. I'm not a film student, so I couldn't tell you what the filming technique is called wherein the "actors" fight in slow-motion, and then the film is sped up to make the fights look like they are taking place at a normal speed. The director of these Ninja Death movies sped the fights up too much, and the result is that every battle looks like an episode of the Benny Hill show. I put these kind of crappy movies on at night to fall asleep to (spaghetti westerns and cheesy horror flicks work well also), but Ninja Death kept me awake and laughing. None of the movies in this collection are big budget - they are all old, and the sound and picture quality is poor, but that adds, not detracts, to the experience of watching them. If you "get" these kinds of films, you absolutely can't go wrong spending the money on this collection.

A collection of really great "bad kung-fu" movies.......2007-01-26

I was ecstatic when i heard about this collection from a friend and snatched it up right away [great price!!]. This set includes some of the worst movies I have ever seen, but I am one of the rare people who actually gets a kick out of watching these types of movies, especially bad kung-fu. My only real gripe is there wasn't enough of the "Shaolin" style films...oh well.

Now not to say that ALL are bad, as there are actually a few really good ones too. So If you are looking for a quick way to build up your kung-fu collection and love "B" movies...this is the one for you!! All I have to say is "The Impossible Kid" was the best of the worst...classic!!!

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift has all the elements that spelled success for its predecessors: Speed, sex, and minimal dialogue. The plot doesn't need explication; it's a nonsensical series of confrontations and standoffs that serve to get us from one race to another. Tokyo Drift can most accurately be described as a visual poem about screeching tires, crunching fiberglass, and sleek female skin, set to a killer soundtrack of Japanese pop and hip-hop. The actors are only needed for tight close-ups of narrowed eyes or sweaty hands tightly gripping gearshifts, though Sung Kang, Better Luck Tomorrow, stands out as a vaguely philosophical hoodlum with deadpan charisma. The curved bodies of the cars and the luscious flesh of the women are both shot with a fetishistic hunger. The "drift" style of racing--in which the cars are allowed to slide in order to take sharp turns at high speeds--grabs your eyes; there's a strange, spectral beauty to rows of cars sliding sideways down a mountain road at night. Also starring Lucas Black (Friday Night Lights) as our wheel-happy hero; Bow Wow (Roll Bounce) as the scam-artist comic relief; and martial arts legend Sonny Chiba (Kill Bill) as a yakuza big shot. --Bret Fetzer

Yes, I loved this movie and it more of true style of racing me and my brother are interest in. Yes, I know... the first one is good cuz of Vin Diesel andf Paul Walker. But this is still the best of all 3 F & F series! The ending is awesome and I knew it, I've read that part a long ago before this movie came out in theatres! I enjoying watch this movie, over over over over and don't get tired of it... mmmm, safe to say I've watch this HD-DVD like 7 times and 3 times in theatres. Anyway, the picture and sound are amazing and wicked awesome!

Fun Movie, Great Demo Material.......2007-06-08

Although the movie may be regarded as a mediocre movie by some, let's face the facts here: Tokyo Drift ain't no Schindler's List. It's an all round fun ride and the Drift sport was well translated into this movie. For sports car fanatics, this may well be in one of your collection as the cars are highlighted in a way that they have their own characters and could very well be the actors of this movie. Not to say that the actors are shabby, though. Although there are no Oscar nominated performances here, the cast have chemistry and are entertaining enough to keep you glued to the story, albeit predictable.

As for the disc itself, Tokyo Drift on HD DVD paves the way for future titles to include the U-Control feature as one of a powerful, interactive tool to play with. Tokyo Drift has the Picture in Picture feature, where a 'behind the scenes' featurette plays throughout the movie; Set Pictures; Tech Specs where car characteristics or damage specs pop up during certain scenes; and Storyboards - all at your control. You can bring it up or switch it off whenever you want (only for the PiP. Other features have the option to pop up during certain scenes), without returning to the main menu. Besides the U-Control feature, you also have other staples such as deleted scenes, commentary, etc. There's even a garage mode where you customize (with a limited set of colors and designs) Han's car and actually see it in the "Doughnut" scene from the movie. Pretty useless, but cool nonetheless.

Overall, Tokyo Drift is a fun, fast paced adventure with a predictable storyline (as well as a sweet cameo) and seeing it on HD DVD is a totally new experience. Have a new HD DVD Player and Plasma/LCD? This is what you should play to demo your rig!

Missed Opportunity.......2007-05-28

Like many "Japan Movies" however, this is not a movie about Japan as much as Japan serving as an exotic location against which Westerners have their own adventures. There was a period around the turn of the century when most Western books and movies about Asia were simply exotic backdrops for stories about Europeans, and it appears 100 years later we are not completely out of that era yet.

Not, I hasten to add before I get too high on my liberal horse, that there is anything inherently wrong with that. For that matter, Japanese media often employs the same device, and Japanese comics and movies are often filled with stories of Japanese people going to America and having all sorts of bizarre adventures.

But it is noticeable that none of the main characters in this movie are Japanese. The hero is a white American, the best friend character is a black American, the mentor is a Chinese American, and the love interest is an Australian of indeterminate ethnicity. A multi-cultural cast certainly, but the rest of the Japanese characters are mostly reduced to the background. More is the pity because the producers were able to get a few of Japanese most recognized television talents to make cameos on this film, and then only gave them bit parts.

In fact the only Japanese who figure into this story at all are the villains. I remember thinking the first film in the series, with its Chinese bad guys, was drifting dangerously close to reviving the old stereotype of the swarthy Asian villain. This film again has chosen to focus on a white protagonist battling slimy Asian gangs.

However I am hesitant to call racism too quickly, especially since the director of this film and many of the crew are Asian American themselves. Instead, let us just say that the film has some unfortunate missed opportunities, and it could have been a lot better if it had done a better job of integrating its Japanese cast.

As for my critique of the film's portrayal of Japan:
The entire film is set in Tokyo, which I have thus far spent appalling little time in, despite my 5 years in Japan (mostly due to my hatred of crowds). Tokyo is to some extent almost a separate country, and the rest of Japan views it in much the same way we Midwesterners view California, as that crazy place where anything goes, fashion and youth culture are at their cutting edge, and nobody has any morals.

If you watch the DVD, the director's commentary is pretty interesting, because he talks about some of the things he exaggerated, and some of the things he didn't. (For example, given the fact that Tokyo is one huge traffic Jam, most of these car racing scenes that take place in the movie are pretty laughable).
Also it turns out that, like "Lost in Translation", this film was apparently plagued by Japan's restrictive rules regarding film permits, and a lot of the Tokyo footage they either had to take illegally, or film in L.A. on sets that recreated Tokyo.

The school uniforms, school slippers, and look of the school was all pretty much dead on. However in my experience, a tall white guy cannot walk into a classroom in Japan without causing, if not massive disruption, at least a considerable show of interest and questions. I found it slightly surprising that he could simply walk into the classroom and be accepted as a new student, but then I live out in the countryside in Kyushu. I'm sure Tokyo is a lot more sophisticated and international.

Of course, the big point of this movie is not Japan or the cast, but the cars.
I will say this though, I now have a whole new appreciation for "Crash" by J.G. Ballard. When he I read his book about sexual eroticism and car crashes, I thought he was only being metaphorical about our society's addiction to automobiles. 15 minutes into this movie, I realized that some people, like the target audience for these films, do seem to literally equate huge car crashes with pretty girls and sexual arousal.

Best movie ever!.......2007-05-19

Apart from Edward Scissorhands, this is my favorite movie. I never thought I'd find a better movie than 2 Fast 2 Furious. I didn't expect Bow Wow to be a very good actor, but he proved me wrong - he acted Twinkie's part very well. The acting is all good, but Brian Tee and Sung Kang especially stand out. The drift scenes are really something else - they just get your adrenaline pumping and it doesn't stop!
The best characters were DK and Han - Han was played really well and he was kinda witty, and DK was just soooooo evil!

This movie is the one that got me addicted to action flicks, so you'll be mad if you miss it. This film is the best!

"Kill Bill" was either a disaster-in-the-making or a one of a kind hit -- a sprawling revenge flick that had to be cut in two and released separately. But director Quentin Tarantino serves up entertainingly mindless gore and twisted thrills in "Kill Bill Volume 1," a salute to homages.

Tragedy strikes the Bride (Uma Thurman) on her wedding day: The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (DiVAS) attacks and slaughters the guests, the groom, and wounds the very pregnant Bride herself. Her former boss/lover Bill (David Carradine) finishes the bloodbath by shooting the Bride in the head. But despite his efforts, she isn't dead.

A few years later, the Bride wakes to find that she has been in a coma for a few years, and has been being used as a sex toy for rent. After recovering enough to move, the Bride gets a sword sharp enough to "cut God," and goes on a revenge spree against the people who wrecked her life and killed her baby, including Cottonmouth (Vivica A. Fox) and the deadly O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu).

Don't expect cinematic art in "Kill Bill Volume 1." If anything, this is cinematic pop art, a loving tribute to cheesy martial-arts flicks and westerns. Tarantino even inserts a stretch of anime detailing O-Ren's background. It's pure Tarantino, untainted by typical directing methods and immensely entertaining if you switch off your critical faculties, refrain from asking "How the heck could that happen?"

"Kill Bill" isn't for the weak of stomach; over 450 gallons of fake blood are used in both movies. But the blood usage is more "Monty Python" than "Braveheart"; it's so over-the-top that it's silly and sick rather than disturbing. So is the violence -- hacking dozens of people down without getting so much as a scrape is impossible, but it's sure fun to watch.

Tarantino throws out more one-liners than just about any other filmmaker around. The absurd "Trix is for kids" line aside, there are a number of great lines like "Those of you lucky enough to have your lives take them with you. However, leave the limbs you've lost. They belong to me now." The script teems with impossibilities, but they seem plausible enough in this alternate reality that Tarantino has cooked up. Call it Tarantinoland.

Uma Thurman, with her yellow tracksuit and katana, rules the screen as the Bride. Despite the Bride cutting down people by the dozen, it's impossible not to appreciate her. And the best supporting performances come from Liu as the ruthless O-Ren, Carradine in a brief but intense appearance, and the wonderful, underrated Chiaki Kuriyama as evil schoolgirl Go-Go Yubari.

It's silly, it's creepy, it's gaudy, and somehow it's vastly entertaining. Tarantino's special triumph in "Kill Bill Volume 1" is to somehow rope his vast store of movie homages into a gory, action-packed storyline, and one that is, at the very least, hard to forget.

Director Quentin Tarantino really blows up minds with this movie. One of the best films made in this time. Tarantino takes us back in time to an almost samurai movie, mixed with today's reality and problems. Uma Thurman's caracter the bride is a "super hero" for women of nowadays. Really great movie, original plot and lot's and lot's of blood and overall ACTION....

well, it's the 1970s so movie technology went only so far. it's corny in a lot of ways, but some of the stories are fun. it's a kick and it's not a lot to pay considering that you get 20 movies.

I had to edtit this because I wanted to change my review on ninja death after seeing parts 1 and 2. So here I go again, I still have not watched ALL of these, but then again, I never will watch some of them, so I will give it my my best.

Return of the Kungfu Dragon-2/5 stars at best, almost worth watching, I made it all the way through this one cause there were a lot of fights, but NOTHING sttod out to me.

Nija Empire-not going to watch this but if you are a mike egan fan, then you should certainly check this out.

NINJA DEATH 1- easily one of the most ambitious projects ever concieved by a kungfu director. The back of this box actually does a decent job of describinbg this, meaning they didn't lie and say that ti lung and david chiang. So this is easily the best of the 3- part series but you do need to get all 3. The other ones do a nice job of recapping, and if they woulod have said "Last time on Ninja Death", then that would have given a 5/5 for every movie. This movie starts out with a mullet wearing alexander lo rei who is as ripped as ever in thisd. he plays a brothel bouncer, so you get plenty of overly long funny sex scenes in this. But that is not why we are watching this. Ninja'a are coming out again and Alezander Lo Rei has to train with his master to learn a really good fighting style. I could bog you down with the story, but it's better just to try and figure it out for yourself cause it is pretty cool. So Lu Feng is the leader of the ninjas and he is trying to finish what he started like 20 years ago. And don't be fooled by this guy's 4 cent tin foil gold suit thingy because like I said, this guy is Lu Feng. And Feng's scenes are the only one they don't speed up(in part 1 at least), so maybe it is a tribute to him being the centipede. There is also this guy who wears a metal mask and is basically unstoppable. He is definitely my favorite character. Sop like I said you need to get all the parts of this, you can get the 50-pack that has all 20 of these movies and it also has parts 2 and 3. Or you can do what I did and buy the parts 2 and 3 for 99 cents off a ebay, not too bad of a buy.

Deadly Duo- bolo , chiang and ti fo not star in this and the real name is 2 GREAT CAVALIERS. It has beardy, lo lieh, angela mao, john liu, and the second appearence I have ever seen in a movie from the baddie from Jet li's last hero in china. I know what you are saying, "this has to be great", well it actually really sucks and ohter than the final fight is right on par with return of the kungfu dragon. The problem with this movie is that they don't even attempt to make the punches and kicks look like they are actually connecting. So not even worth a watch, but check it out for yourself and if you think it's good than post your opinion, I wold be glad to read it.

Ninja the protector- this movie said it had phillip ko in it in the CREDITS it said that. Mother @*$&#%^ piece of @#($, why do I keep watching these godfrey ho movies, I keep thinking that I am going to see the one good godfey ho film, but it will never happen. So this movie is a signateure splice that is better I guess than most of his ninja films.

HAnds of death-about as good as rage of the master=(wang yu"s saddest effort ever)

Weapons of death-I'm not going to watch it but if some of you're favorite kungfu stars are Eric Lee, Bob Ramos, Ralph Castellanos, then this is your bag baby!

Ninja Champion-HA ha ha ha ha ha

Four robbers- really bad chinese shoot-em-up, credits say that it has Ku Feng in it.

Shaolin Temple- sorry, no fu sheng, or maybe it does have him, but this is easily one of he worst shaolin movies ever, right up there with shaolin posse.

Image of bruce lee- Actually not that bad, I think it has Bruce Li in it. A ton of the most pointless fights ever(until the end at least). BUT THIS MOVIE HAS BOLO IN IT AND I DIDN'T SEE HIM FIGHT, SWEAR WORDS ARE RACING THROUGH MIND RIGHT NOW. I was pretty drunk when I saw this and I might have missed it, btu it would have had to be like a 30 second fight. So pai ying shows up in the final fight and it is pretty good. Easily one of the best bruce lee clone movies, a top tenner.

The snake, the tiger, the crane- I didn't see carter wong in this but it does have lo lieh as a wandering swordsman. Overall this is right along the lines of 2 great cavaliers(deadly duo) in crappiness.

Shaolin deadly kicks- I was actually expecting a lot out of this movie, maybe that's why I hated it. But if you are a dorian tan fan, you will probably like this, I just never liked that guy, he was too slow or something, I just can't put my finger on it.

Chase step by step- a real gem. I would rate this 3rd behind ninja death and shadow ninja as best movies in this "collection" and image of bruce would be a very distant 4th.
So this movie is about 2 circus kids who have to deliver gold a town who is poor and they have all sorts of troubles along the way. It has a really bad picture, but then again I have sat through and enjoyed muvh worse than this. The movie itself I would give around a 3.5/5, but still VERY good. This movie I have to say is pretty unique to what we kungfu buffs are used to, so really worth it if you can get this collection for 7.99 brand new at best buy like I did. And I would pay up to 30 dollars for this(if I already had Ninja death parts 2 and 3, which is actually pretty unlikely.

Bruce Lee:the invincible-I watched this and then image of bruce back to back. And this is the reason I got so drunk, this was so bad, I kept trying to make it better, but it only got worse the more drunk I got. So the movie stars the star of chines hercules and everyone really sucks at kung fu in this. REALLY SUCKS.

The big fight-I mix this up with hands of death, but I didn't finish either of them, because they both sucked.

The street fighter- you all know this sonny chiba movie, I don't like it, but it's watchable anf the picture is watchable too.

Death Machines- Ron Marchini, Michael Chong, Joshua Johnson, the greatest kungfu trio ever. They even rivaled the venoms back in the day. The reason Godfrey Ho is so popular. Easily one of the best movies ever. Also stars Jerry Karney, Tony "the disater" Baster. A true kung fu epic, ho's best work. 5/5 stars.

Infernal Street- only one I haven;t popped in the dvd player out of these.

Shadow Ninja-THE REASON YOU BUY COLLECTIONS LIKE THESE.
This is a true gem, I'll give you a spoiler alert right away because I tend to get carried away when I am talking about my favorite kung fu movies ever. The movie stars Roy Chiou(I think), a scrawny but tough little kid, and SHEN YI-KWAN. I know I butchered his name, but now 99.9% sure that this is the Jet Li's opponent in Tsui Hark's masterpiece, Once upon a time in china. Now if you have been looking for EYE-POPPING Martial Arts action, thenthis will definitely tickle that kungfu spot inside you that constantly needs more and more love the more and better stuff that you see.
So the story starts out with a young scrawny kid who wants to be a police officer. Now this kid has that classic peking opera style that I love and he looks absolutely FLAWLESS in his moves. So he becomes a cop and the partener of Roy Chiou(I think) and Roy doesn't like him at first, but then he gets his ass saved by him and they become good friends. Now I don't want to give away any more of this movie, except a little, but YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE, AND TO SEE THIS YOU MUST GO BY ANY MEAANS NECESSARY. There is a guy called the white killer in this movie, and I think Michael Mann stole some music from the white kilelr theme for the shootout in heat. Anyway they have this one very stylish shot where the white kilelr kills someone and laeves red blood covering the camera lense, they also do a VERY nice shot of showing an all white body get soaked in red, and a VERY VERY nice revealing scene of the white killer.

The final fight scene for this includes 4 people, 3 of which can fight. And when I say that they can fight, I mean they go at it HARD. These 3 can match up with ANYBODY in terms of on-screen fighting. The end battle is so spectacular that I wish that a word like breathless could describe this properly, but it doesn't. So I will just tell you that I have well over 200 kung fu movies and this rights right near the top of my all-time favorite. i literally watched this like 25 times in like 10 days.
I will never tire of this movie.

So Hell yah you should buy this collection, SHADOW NINJA IS TAKEN FROM A PRETTY GOOD PRINT, and personally , I would pay up to 20 bucks for this movie alone, even if it was a crappy print unlike the one this collection gives you. An ALL TIME CLASSIC.

And if anyone can find out the real name of this, I WILL BE VERY INTERESTED IN HEARING IT. When I looked this up on IMDB, it I clicked on the stars of it and all the same actores are in a movie called the KILLER WEARS WHITE, so if anybody has seen this sequel or prequel, PLEASE POST IT HERE AND LET ME KNOW.

Good action, bad editing, and a so so story.......2007-04-28

This movie was supposed to be a sequel to the well received Hong Kong action feast Storm Riders. What it is seems to be more of a TV series edited to be a full length movie. The cuts are bad and the English dub, is sub par, especially the annoying villain. However the fights were amazing, and the special effects, though not on the level of Hollywood or even Hong Kong blockbusters were entertaining. I gave the movie 3 Stars for it's great, though Power Rangeresque action, and it's full hearted but low budgeted attempt at making a sequel to a movie I thought really needed one. If you like the first movie and you like over the top action, you'll like this movie. But if you're looking for a movie that has the same feel and polish as the first movie you will be dissapointed.

Thought I was actually going to see a sequel to the original movie. Instead It looked like a cut up version of a tv series. Not much action and story was confusing because too many pieces were cut out.

I have watched a few other films that tried to do this same story, but none compare to this one. By far my favorite comic style story in live action. Special effects are so much better that the others.

Cartoon Superhero Fun for fans of Wuxia and Kung Fu movies - just don't expect too much!.......2007-03-14

Based on the long running and (in Hong Kong) best selling comic book of the same title, "Storm Riders" is best viewed as a comedic romp like "Dragon Tiger Gate" (likewise based on a popular HK comic book). Pretty boy Ekin Cheng plays a happy-go-lucky Lightray (or Nightcrawler) to Aaron Kwok's a brooding, muscular Orion (or Wolverine type), while Shu Qi and Christie Cheung stand around looking good, respectively, in buckskin leather or sheer fabric, and Super-Kung Fu Sword Overlord Sonny Chiba (chewing scenery left and right) has a ball being a cross between a blow hard and an evil demigod like Darkseid or Thanos.

"Storm Riders" is utterly mindless, and occassionally silly entertainment. Those looking for `old school' Shaw Brothers `bricks & baseball bats' gong fu action, or literary wu-xia (like "Hero", "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" or "The Night Banquet) should look elsewhere. If one is looking for clean kung-fu fantasy entertainment for the kids, this should suffice. It can be fun. Just make sure you aren't expecting too much.

Hattori Hanzo - Charismatic Ninja Hero.......2007-06-30

We found this series very enjoyable. I bought it because I wanted to see how Shinichi/Sonny Chiba became associated with Hattori Hanzo, since in movies Chiba tends to be a supporting character or bad guy rather than H.H. himself. I am not disappointed: we like the characters, the stories, and the combination of action, drama, and humor. At about $30 per hour-long episode it is a very good deal.
I only have two complaints:
1) we want to watch more but only the first season seems available;
2) Chiba's Hattori Hanzo does not say "VERY GOOOOOD!" even once! :o)
(Maybe it's because the H.H. in Okinawa who makes the exquisite blade for
B. Kiddo/"The Bride" is meant to be a descendant centuries later.)

loosely recreates the life of noted ninja leader hanzo hattorie. and his
band of iga ninja these dvd's are awsome lots of action, intriege and passion. and true ninjutsu martial arts and weapons and explosives.
its a must see for any and all practioners of ninjutsu.ive read the
current ninjutstu grand master Masaaki Hatsumi actually helped durring filming of these movies.

Aces High.......2007-05-09

This has meaning to me as I was in Marana, AZ during the filming of this movie and got to meet Lou Gosset Jr. who is the finest of actors and a real gentleman. Seeing first hand, the vintage WWII fighter planes in action was awsome, especially the Zero. We had a part in shooting holes in a piece of an airplane fuselage on the set. The movie itself was the best of the Iron Eagle Series in my opinion.

Where to begin, when I saw this movie for the first time I just feel in love with Chappy. I have yet to see a movie that even comes close to the quality that this movie embodies. If Chappy were a real person I would marry him and have a life of action and romance in his jet, going really fast all over the world and blowing stuff up. I am not sure if Chappy should be hanging out with little boy though, that could be bad. You know what they say "16 will get you 20". You just have to watch this film, you too will be swept away by the passion that Chappy exudes. If I had a chance to save my daddy from the bad guys I would want Chappy by my side, if not sitting on his lap in the cockpit of his jet.

i loved this movie. it is absolutly jaw droping to see WWII era fighters go up agasint the modern jets of today. just a few minor detials that got me was how the main bad guy's plane. ws refered to as an "Me262 'the plane that was going to win the war for germany'" when in fact it was nothing close to the 262. other then that i foudn this movie very entertaining and deffenitly watch/buyable. i got it on VHS to wathc again and again
