The telefilm takes place in 2264 after the wars are over and a new age of space exploration has begun. The Interstellar Alliance has been organized to establish and maintain peace among its member worlds, including Earth. The Rangers are an elite military force made up of hand-picked young, smart, dedicated human and alien members who combine the high-tech elements of space travel with the idealism and honor of the knights of old. They encounter a previously unknown alien race whose lethal power is far greater than any force previously known to Earth or any other world in the Interstellar Alliance.

Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers is a two-hour television movie created by J. Michael Straczynski (original creator of the Babylon 5 series) for the Sci-Fi Channel. The telefilm takes place in 2264 after the wars are over and a new age of space exploration has begun. Science-fiction fans are notoriously hard to please, and few have anything good to say about The Legend of the Rangers, produced in 2002 to introduce a spinoff of the popular Babylon 5 TV series. The naysayers have a point. Few elements of this 90-minute pilot, subtitled "To Live and Die in Starlight," will likely be memorialized among the genre's golden moments; the dialogue is often clunky and on-the-nose, the acting is less than stellar, and the effects work, while pretty good, doesn't live up to the standard set by Stargate, Farscape, and others. Nevertheless, there's a reasonably compelling story here, involving the elite Rangers (made up of humans and aliens alike, including the Minbari, who sport "head bones" instead of hair and whose cute little ears are placed on the sides of their necks) and the threat posed to the universe by a mysterious new foe known as "the Hand" (these are some seriously bad dudes, a race that has lain dormant for many years but is now back with a vengeance). Front and center is human Ranger David Martell (played by Dylan Neal). Court-martialed for choosing to save his crew rather then lead them to certain death (in violation of a code mandating that "we do not retreat, whatever the reason"), he's put in command of the Liandra, a ship that's not only funkier than Han Solo's Millennium Falcon but haunted to boot. Of course, as events play out, Martell and his pals end up as the last line of defense against the Hand, not only pitted against these implacable enemies but also dealing with a traitor among the good guys. The themes (honor vs. expediency, dark forces arrayed against peace-seekers, human impetuousness tangling with ancient alien wisdom) are familiar, and the outcome is far from unpredictable. Still, there are a lot less entertaining ways to spend 90 minutes than with Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers. --Sam Graham

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Why is this getting such good reviews?.......2007-06-28

It's pure drek.

Trash. Junk. Probably the worst story ever produced by the Babylon 5 series (yes even worse than Infection).

So why's it getting such high reviews. It deserves no stars.

4 out of 5 stars Good Movie.......2007-06-09

This is a good movie because it allows us to see the G'Kar character progress into a later time after the Babylon 5 series. It is not clear exactly what year this takes place, but I think it is after the Drakh plague is cured from the Crusade series, so I would say it would have to be about 2270. I think it was supposed to start a series about the Rangers whose entire story was never told. The DVD is as cheap as they come. It has absolutely no extras. It has no commentary. I think they could have done a better job on the DVD.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-06-05

It does not hold true to the quality we (B5 fans) expect from Babylon 5. G'Kar's dialogue, rather than capturing the depth and likeability of his character, seems artificial, forced, and lame. He has been turned into a comic relief character, and made to spew trite one-liners that G'Kar on Babylon 5 would never have said. I remember him saying something similar to, "Love to stay. Can't. Have to go. Kiss kiss, bye bye." That, and other scenes (like one in which the weapons girl destroys a mine field by screaming and flailing her limbs around in some kind of impractical, immersive, interactive targeting room) make me feel embarrassed for the movie and the franchise, rather than proud of it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a hard-core B5 fan, and you can bet that I've already pre-ordered The Lost Tales. But this particular piece of the B5 world is very disappointing, and I don't recommend it for anyone, B5 fans or otherwise.

3 out of 5 stars I had no idea that Rangers cursed so much..........2007-06-05

The Legend of the Rangers was quite a disappointment considering how much hope there was for another successful Babylon 5 series, though by no means is it a terrible movie.
The year is 2264 and a young Ranger captain with discipline problems (God knows why that was necessary) is assigned command of a 20-year-old derelict ship (!), the Liandra, and ordered to escort a Valen-class ship carrying a number of Interstellar Alliance dignitaries, to a secret location. When the two ships are ambushed by three unidentified craft, the Rangers realize that another great evil is brewing; one that could overshadow the Shadows themselves...
The major setbacks are in relation to:
1) Captain David Martell who is too young, too arrogant, and too obnoxious to be likable. Moreover he lies (!), he curses (!), he cannot control his anger (!), and he bets money in the midst of a crisis! Am I missing something here? It seems he is anything but a Ranger, let alone a Ranger captain!
Tannier was way more acceptable/appropriate as a Ranger and as a captain than Martell, and he proved it beyond any doubt. In addition, Dulann should have been Captain hands down while Martell should have been washing dishes or mopping the floor/deck.
2) In the plot in which they (his superiors and the Grey Council) made an issue of Martell's leaving the battle when he had no weapons to fight with was simply absurd.
3) The enemy ships' tactics were moronic: The 2 enemy ships decided to leave the scene without finishing the job confident that the third one was more than enough. Why??? And why the hurry anyway?
Moreover, the second sophisticated enemy ship did not check for life signs (!) or explosives (!) and took the bait... after that the third sophisticated enemy ship did scan for life signs, but not for explosives such as grenades! Give us a break!
4) Have the Rangers been reduced to the point that there are no White Stars left and top dignitaries travel on "space bricks" escorted by 20-year-old junk, and all that without explanation? The Valen was pathetic as far as ships go, while the Liandra was worse yet, and the Intestellar Alliance's top diplomats/representatives had to endure travel on these ships. The year is 2264, so it's less than two years since Sheridan and Delenn left Babylon 5 for Minbar. What in Valen's name happened???
5) The alien crewmembers, except the Drazi, were rather interesting and quite promising, but the humans were just bad.
Tirk, the Drazi, looks like the big orange fella from Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four. Kit did not even look Japanese, the guy with the disguises belonged on a different show, not B5, while the girl/gunner was just sad...
6) As much as Andreas Katsulas/G'kar tried, Dylan Neal was definitely a poor choice at best for Captain Martell.
7) With so much as stake, they could have had Delenn or Sheridan (or even Vir or Lochley) along with G'kar.
Overall, the story/plot is a good one (with the haunting being an attention-grabbing twist), the special effects are naturally better (technology has progressed), the dialogues were way below average (those responsible should be subjected to corporal punishment), the music was all right (though nothing compared to past scores), while the acting needs a lot of work as the cast carry out their performances rather poorly (one can tell that they are a bit uneasy), however, that is the usually case with most series in the beginning. In short, The Legend of the Rangers is missing that B5 feel, and that pretty much says it all. Please bring back Babylon 5! You owe it to the fans!

4 out of 5 stars The Rangers. Possibilities........2007-05-27

This was a new approach to build on the origional series, and over-all was enjoyable. I liked the hard decisions that had to made by the main character to survive, and the martial arts training scenes. Effects as always were great and the plot was good. I found the aspect of the gunner girl weaving around blasting and yelling in the firing chamber some-what beyond the way this advancement in technology could have been handled, but if that was my only criticism, then it was enjoyable viewing. Could have been expanded to some sort of mini-series perhaps? The option as always was there. No problem adding this to my B5 collection. Give it a go!

They skydive, they kickbox, they travel through space. Is there anything these crayon-colored teens can't do? The answer seems a resounding "no," until some construction workers unwittingly open a manhole cover and loose Ivan Ooze upon Angel Grove. Although incarcerated in his egglike tomb for 6,000 years, Ooze gets right to work at that world domination thing. First up: Strip those eager teens of their morphin uniforms and associated powers and send their leader Zordon to his crystalline deathbed. There's nothing to do but head for a distant planet to meet up with a bikini-clad warrior babe who imparts ancient wisdom and power. Meanwhile, Ooze has been turning parents into zombies who craft giant metallic insects--all the better to take over the world with. This 90-minute film features some cast changes from the Fox television series, as well as better special effects and extended fight scenes, which account for the PG rating. Parents must weigh in for themselves on the famous violent-influence-or-not question. Although, like anything else, what seemed violent in 1995 may seem a bit tame today. Ages 5 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs

4 out of 5 stars Awsome Movie!.......2007-04-10

First I saw "Turbo, A Power Rangers Movie" and I liked it, sort of. Then my Mom let me tape "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and it was awsome. That Ivan Ooze guy was funny. Along with his other bad guys, Lord Zedd, Rita Repaulse, Goldar, and Mordant. And the fact the Ivan brings two giant machines of an ant, and a scurpion. Now the Rangers must defeat them and Ivan. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS FILM!!!

3 out of 5 stars Best of the PR.......2007-03-14

This is by far the best power ranger movie out there and the best of it's long running series. However the price isn't worth it. You can go to your local wal-mart and pick this up in the 5.50 bin (that's where I got mine) without the shipping and handling... plus it's there right then and now.

My oldest grandson watched all of the power rangers movies, so when his younger brother age 6 started enjoying them, I bought him this movie as a Christmas present this last year and he really loves it. He watches it more than anything else.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Western Roundup.......2007-07-02

Well going in I had high hopes based on earlier reviews concerning Canyon Passage. That turned out to be a pretty good old style western. If all of the other movies had the same standard then the disk would have been rated 5 stars. The others are good but not as good as CP and that is what brought it down. All of the fils were pretty well played, good plot development and any fan of the old stuff should like this collection.

4 out of 5 stars Non-shoot-out Movie About the West.......2007-05-22

Fine picture of mostly non-violent pioneers in the Pacific Northwest. A loyal rendering of Ernest Haycox's novel. Dana Andrews stalwart as Logan, the shopkeeper, Susan Hayward as sweet and loyal Lucy, Brian Aherne as Lucy's fiancee, with a problem with gambling. Hoagy Carmichael is a townsman, who introduced his theme song "Old Buttermilk Sky," Lloyd Bridges a gold prospector, Ward Bond a sweaty ruffian. One for kids to see it wasn't all saloons and gunmen who settled the West.

5 out of 5 stars Great Western fare, thanks to Universal.......2007-02-16

This is volume I of the two volume set of Classic Westerns to be issued by Universal, and it includes four excellent oaters, and if past history is any guide, Universal will give us great transfers in excellent color (where the movies are in color). Fred MacMurray (THE TEXAS RANGERS) was an accomplished Western actor, with not only THE TEXAS RANGERS to his credit but classics such as AT GUNPOINT, GUN FOR A COWARD, GOOD DAY FOR A HANGING, QUANTEZ, and others demonstrating his prowess in the genre. He doesn't disappoint here. CANYON PASSAGE was one of Dana Andrews finest roles, and it's a excellent picture, with Hoagy Carmichael providing some delightful music. Audie Murphy stars in KANSAS RAIDERS, and doesn't disappoint (his legion of fans will be delighted!). Finally, Rock Hudson, again a fine Westerner, is very fine in THE LAWLESS BREED. In sum, four very fine and entertaining Westerns, which, along with volume II, should please Western fans and movie viewers in general.

Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers (1989) was the Disney Studio's second weekday afternoon syndicated-cartoon show. Like its predecessor, Ducktales (1987), the series began with a two-hour movie. Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers to the Rescue was recut into the first episodes, which are not included in this set. Chip and Dale were originally pantomime characters who bedeviled Donald Duck and Pluto in two dozen short cartoons. Rescue Rangers recasts them as adventurers who solve mysteries and right wrongs. In addition to a voice, Chip gets a leather jacket and Indiana Jones-style fedora; Dale talks and sports a Hawaiian shirt. They're joined in their escapades by Monterey Jack, a large mouse with a prognathous jaw and a bad Crocodile Dundee accent; Gadget Hackwrench, the inevitable spunky girl/mouse; and Zipper, a housefly.

The Rangers' adventures play like a mixture of Disney's The Rescuers and The Great Mouse Detective, with elements of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? stirred in. Chip, Dale, and the other Rangers outwit criminal cats, mad scientists, and crooked mice. All of the farfetched stories seem to feature the same slapstick chases, Rube Goldberg contraptions, and villains getting their rear ends chomped. Disney purists objected to turning the classic characters of Chip an' Dale into something they'd never been, but Gen-Y kids liked Rescue Rangers, which ran for 65 episodes. (Unrated, suitable for age 7 and older: cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon

This is a wonderful collection. It reminded me of my childhood. (Now I will have my son watch them like I did when I was a kid.)

4 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!.......2007-02-13

Not a bad box set, but VOLUME ONE DOES NOT CONTAIN THE PILOT!!! I wish I'd known that before I bought it, because the pilot was my favorite part. Vol.2 contains the five-part pilot episodes. Overall, not a bad purchase though. You'll like it for different reasons than you did when you were a kid (if you're a twentysomething buying it for nostalgia), but you will like it.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest rescuers of all. .......2007-02-07

Anyone who has watched tv since the late 80s has been blessed by such shows as Ducktales, Talespin, Inspector Gadget, The Super Mario Brothers Super Show, Heathcliff, The Adventures of the Gummi Bears, and Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers. These shows were deffinately life changing shows that taught us all lessons as well as entertained the pants off of us! If you don't like Chip 'n' Dale, then you are wrong and bad. . . actually you are both, you are badong!

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2007-02-03

I am so unbelievably happy to finally get these guys on dvd!!! They are great! Reminds me of my childhood :)

5 out of 5 stars Great Cartoon!.......2007-01-09

When I saw this I just knew I had to get it immediately. Two of my favorite cartoons to watch when I was younger were Ducktales and this. I only remember bits and pieces of this but from I remember it was good. On a side note for some reason I don't feel a show is complete without a good theme song. This was both a good show and had what I thought was a really awesome theme song to boot. Five stars.

5 out of 5 stars good.......2007-01-04

i have enjoyed this movie since i was a child and its a great movie.

2 out of 5 stars Seriously Lacking..........2005-12-29

I was extremely disappointed with this movie. This movie really sucks compared to the first one. First a kid named Justin becomes a Power Ranger after another one is injured and the character and the acting just doesn't cut it. What also sucks is that Kimberly and Jason from the original Mighty Morphin PRs are there and it is clear that Tommy still have feelings for Kimberly and as a fan of the Tommy/Kimberly romance Kat being there just ruins everything. Divatox is cool as a villian but doesn't compare to Rita and Ivan Ooze as she is too conceited and superficial which gets annoying after a while. Overall, at this point the series Power Rangers has changed so much that what made the Power Rangers popular is completely GONE. I can't even identify with the characters anymore. EVERYTHING has changed. The only thing I did like was the technological advances in their Zords and their gadgets. Thats it.

1 out of 5 stars NOT for young children.......2005-12-19

My 3 year old son got so bored watching this movie, although he is a big fan of power rangers (he has to see every dvd he owns every day at least once) his complain was that the power rangers only wear their costumes in 2 or 3 scenes.

5 out of 5 stars Power Rangers DVD.......2005-08-27

For the product being used, it was in perfect condition. Very pleased with my purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Turbo Power Baby!!!.......2005-06-03

ok at first I didn't think this movie would be any good, I wasn't a big fan of katherine and don't even remember tanya but forgetting that It actually turned out to be a really good movie especially seeing as how not only was there there the now infamous
"Shift Into Turbo" line but more importantly fans of the kim/tommy relationship will be very happy seeing as how there was the definate look of love when he find out what happened to her not to mention the times he's calling out to her and desperatly tryin to find her [don't want to give away those scenes]. Also, with a great plot that was a little better than the first movie and an awesome soundtrack there was just a hint of a little somthing going on with kimberly and jason so hopfully fans of the show will find somthing to talk about and find scenes in there that their gonna end up loving for a long time...my only problem was the end because they spent a fair amout of time on buildup with k/t -{{ remember the end credits anyone? he so wanted to hug her amoung other things}}- and to bring in the kat thing was a bad move, it lacked any feeling what so ever and was just fake in having it in there buy in spite of that I loved it alot.
PS- take not as i'm sure one of the only reasons why it ended that way was because with the series 1-3 and this alpha's magical christmas thing that i've just heard about and the stupid "letter" that i won't bring up i'm sure that they had it in there because ppl were asking about a possible reunite and it wasn't going to happen whick s#cks! I could go on but it's suppsed to be a review so i won't. But it was cool to see ernie in the end fight scene.

Crime fighting is important business, but sometimes there's just not enough manpower to investigate every little case. That's where the Rescue Rangers come into play--they specialize in solving the cases that regular detectives don't have time for. The five-part pilot episode "Rescue Rangers to the Rescue" finds human Detective Drake and his canine partner Plato on the brink of retirement and locked away after being framed for stealing a valuable ruby. Meanwhile, the true thief Aldrin Klordane is on the loose and has teamed up with Professor Nimnul and Fat Cat in a scheme to rule the world. Plato's chipmunk friends Chip and Dale are aspiring detectives who may just be the retiring team's last hope for justice. With a little instruction from Plato and the help of a cheese-crazed mouse Monterey Jack, housefly Zipper, and an inventor mouse named Gadget, Chip and Dale are well on their way to solving their first case. Dubbed the Rescue Rangers by Plato, the crime-fighting group quickly finds itself with a full docket of crimes that range from stolen school science projects and missing sea shells to disappearing cacao trees and a thief who disguises himself as an orphaned baby. Teamwork and a blending of unique perspectives prove key to making the Rescue Rangers one strong weapon against crime. (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

4 out of 5 stars Does season come with Spanish dialoge?.......2007-06-25

I wanted to now if the season 1 and 2 have Spanish dialoge(speaking). Does anyone that have both season now? Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Very god.......2007-03-18

Very god packing. But not so fast delivering. But I can liv with that.

5 out of 5 stars Finally got it..........2007-02-03

I am so unbelievably happy to finally get these guys on dvd!!! They are great! Reminds me of my childhood :)

5 out of 5 stars Here is Volume 2, Rescue Rangers Away!.......2006-11-16

Arriving with Volume 2 of Chip "N" Dale Rescue Rangers is episodes 28-51 of the series. Included this time is the 5 episode plot, which gives the origins of the Rescue Rangers. Overall there are 24 episodes in this volume, 3 less than the first wave.

Volume 2 has some of the best episodes from the series, but the pilot series is quite frankly enough reason on its own to purchase the volume. Some highlighted episodes include; Gadget goes Hawaiian, Out of Scale, Chipwrecked Shipmunks, Shell Shocked, and A Creep in the Deep. Those are just a few of the classic episodes in this volume.

Devoid of extras once again, however there was a flyer for The Adventures of the Gummi Bears on DVD in the case, but that is all. Still the price is right for many solid episodes and I suggest to any fan of the series or Chip "N" Dale fan to buy this one right away.

3 out of 5 stars Episodes?.......2006-11-15

Can anyone tell me if this box set has the episode Good Times, Bat Times? It's my all-time favorite episode, but even the Disney sites don't say...
Thanks!

Chosen by fans, the five Power Rangers episodes on this disc are a cross-section of major events from the long-running series. (Dear to the hearts of PR faithful is remembering the succession of actors and characters who have donned Ranger costumes at different times. This anthology helps.) "White Light Parts 1 & 2," from season two, finds Lord Zedd unleashing the very strange Scarlet Sentinel, and the Rangers in nervous anticipation of their new leader, the unidentified White Ranger. "Countdown to Destruction Parts 1 & 2" would probably impress Roger Corman with its budget-conscious but slick mix of stock footage, computer effects, and rapid cutting in the story of the Rangers' near-defeat battling an invasion of Earth. Another nostalgic favorite, "Wild Force: Forever Red," involves an exciting reunion of past and present Red Rangers. Wild, crazy, engrossing stuff, though special features would have been nice. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars okay, but no the best.......2007-02-03

This DVD was I think the first Power Rangers DVD. I will review each of the episodes individually, but not say what they are about because I'm too lazy to type it and the plots of the episodes have been written several times in the other reviews.

White Light:3 stars. The rangers don't morph enough, and when they're not morphed, it's pretty boring. However, the battle scenes are good, and it is so emotional when the other rangers discover the identity of the white ranger.

Countdown to Destruction:4 stars. Probably one of the most emotional episodes on the whole Power Ranger series.

To The Tenth Power:5 stars. Best episode on this DVD. It's funny when Kai says "it can't be!' And then Damon replies "Oh yes it can." When they see the space rangers.

Trakeena's Revenge:1 star. This was just plain pathetic. There wasn't a single fun part in this episode. They should have had the girl kidnapped and the mother worried.

Forever Red:3 stars. This episode is not all it's cracked up to be.

5 out of 5 stars So Awesome!! Cant wait for Volume 2.......2007-01-16

When I first got this DVD i was very excited,I mostly bought it because of the Power rangers in space episodes, it's my all time favorite season, they come out again in the lost galaxy episode so it was double the fun, the only thing i did not like was that the lost galaxy episode ended on open notes, speed rescue and wild force we're also awesome,, i just didnt like the mighty morphin episodes, they werent from season 1 and it didnt contain the original opening i think it was season 2 opening,,,but overall it was still an awesome and i totally love this dvd,,, its a must have for any power rangers fan,,,,,,,,,,,,,,POWER RANGERS FOR LIFE!!

I believe they say The Best Of Power Rangers Volume 2 is coming with only 10 Episodes in it.

But before they say talking about Volume 2 is not true. and I say "IT'S BECAUSE I WILL BELIEVE WITH VOLUME 2 IS COMING."

And let me tell about Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers in the episode named "Doomsday (Parts 1 & 2)" that was from Season 1 of MMPR. But Lord Zedd is not in this title, It was Rita Repulsa in MMPR Season 1.

But Lord Zedd in Might Morphin' Power Rangers Only in Season 2 & 3.

If The Best Volume 2 is coming. ¿Please just do it with Volume 3 is all about with my favorite Episodes?
And here are the episode in it.

The Best Of Power Rangers: Volume 3
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers "The Mutiny (Parts 1 & 3)"

But after Gasket's spell, things aren't going so well for our budding Enrico Caruso. It's a terrible thing--they can't talk; they must sing, even when they don't want to do so!

The Lost Galactabeasts (Parts 1 & 2)
A new villain named Deviot appears, with an army of three powerful Zords to battle the Rangers - Stratoforce, Centaurus, and Zenith. The only problem is, the Rangers' Galactabeasts refuse to fight them. As Deviot prepares for the final battle, the Rangers race to translate the Galaxy book, and find clues to help them defeat the new Zords.

The Master's Last Stand

Since 1993's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the clan based on Japanese Super Sentai has changed twelve times, so it's tricky to keep up with characters and stories. Ultimately, Power Rangers fight evil, and in this new feature, Power Rangers Mystic Force: Dark Wish, the Mystic Force aims to do so by harnessing the awesome power of white magic. The Mystic Force so resembles Go-Bots and Transformers, in that they join together to form giant, unbeatable fighting beasts, that one wistfully remembers the great Japanese robot monsters dating back to Godzilla. In Dark Wish, Briarwood, the magic forest, is threatened by Imperius. He manages to steal the Power Rangers' genie cat, Jenji, to wish the Power Rangers erased from existence in the minds of all who knew them, thus negating their powers. A world of darkness ensues, portrayed in black and white, while the Power Rangers struggle to reclaim their powers. When they do, they come back as the all-powerful Mystic Force Legend Warriors, backed by the elements: Green Legend Warrior by Earth (played by Richard Brancatisano), Pink by Wind (Angie Diaz), Blue by Water (Melanie Vallejo), Yellow by Lightning (Nic Sampson), and Red by Fire (Firas Dirani). Spectacular fight scenes cancel out bad acting, and the villains have impressive costumes. Imperius's collar, for example, is a bird nest filled with colored plastic eggs. As in Lord of the Rings or in Princess Mononoke, Earth's beauty is at stake, connecting magic to its nature-based roots. With so many heavy battles and scary monsters, Dark Wish will thrill older kids, though its positive message is potent for kids of all ages. -Trinie Dalton

1 out of 5 stars Example That The Power Rangers Have Officially Jumped The Shark.......2006-03-13

I remember when I was a kid, the Power Rangers were incredibly popular. The monsters, fight scenes, villains, costumes, what wasn't to like? Then, the show went into over time. Zeo, Turbo, Space, Lost Galaxy, Time Force, and more came. Soon, the show became even bigger. But then, the quality decreases. I viewed Ninja Storm and Wild Force to see why people younger now like it less. I could see why. The characters were no longer interesting, they tried to be more violent with the thirty minute time, but always looked silly. And unlike the really awesome Lord Zedd, these new villains were incredibly bad(an evil wrestler a villain does not make). So I just forgot all about the series until the next one, Dino Thunder, got promising reviews. So I saw it. Surprisingly, Dino Thunder was fairly good. So, I was ready for SPD. The costumes looked amazing, the idea of humans and aliens was neat, and the fight scenes looked like they'd be cool. So, then the anticipated series appears. It begins well enough, but then becomes a cheesy and dull saga. Piggy had no reason to be there, since he was as annoying as the irritating Boom. Grum was pathetic compared to ACTUAL villains, sadly leaving Broodwing little screentime. Though Sid and Z were, may I say, hot, they were not that impressive in character. The retro music got old fast as it was reused. The action started off incredibly but then became the dreaded "same old thing".
So overall, this saga just shows how bad the series got after a while. At least this new series, Mystic Force, is showing progress over the dark ages of SPD.

5 out of 5 stars power rangers, necessary evil .......2005-08-16

As far as Power Ranger movies go, this one ranks right up there......according to my 5 year old son. If you need to get the dishes, laundry or cleaning done, this one will keep your son glued to the tv for at least an hour! I'm not really a fan, but he is and it is one thing that I know will keep him occupied with no complaints!

5 out of 5 stars The best Power Rangers DVD to date. .......2005-06-22

Let me start this review off by saying that if you've been disappointed in the past with the lack of Power Rangers DVDs, their content, and the quality, you have no need to fear any longer.

The plot: The year is 2020 and Earth is now home to humans and aliens alike. While 99% of the aliens live in peace, there's always 1% that can't. To deal with them, Earth enlists the help of a "Galactic Police Group" known as S.P.D., or "Space Patrol Delta." Early on S.P.D. is faced by an invasion force, and sends their A-Squad to the front lines, leaving only their B-Squad cadets to defend Earth.

As one would assume, the B-Squad Cadets are then given Ranger powers and the real story begins...

The show is well done from both a technical and artistic point of view, especially for a Power Rangers series. In the first episode simply titled "Beginnings" which is an hour long, we see three cadets who are still green behind the ears. These guys are not your perfect little Power Rangers the way they were in the older shows. One is fairly nervous, one is a bit ditzy, and one is naïve and obnoxiously arrogant. Likewise the final two Power Rangers aren't even your standard "goody-goody civilians" as in past years - they're street thieves! Clearly this group has its' vices, and they make the character's seem more realistic.

Following "Beginnings" (a 2-part episode) we see episode #3 which is called "Confronted." This episode is probably one of the weaker entries into the series, but it does have some high points, such as the Red and Blue Rangers' constantly locking heads. I mentioned an arrogant and naïve character before; that's Sky, the Blue Ranger. While his counterpart in Red isn't quite perfect either, he's far less obnoxious.

The next episode is called "Walls." While I find the episode interesting, and highly enjoyable, I repetitively find myself wanting to scream the words "SHUT UP SKY!" at my TV. Apparently this was the director's intent as the final scene of this episode has him scrubbing the outside of the Ranger's base with a toothbrush a la boot camp. I enjoyed that scene quite a lot, especially after Sky's constant kvetching about not being the Red Ranger.

The last episode on the disc is titled "Dogged." While it had the potential to be the worst episode of the season, it's just the opposite. It's funny, it's tragic, and it's one of the most well filmed and well-written episodes in the shows' history. The moral too the story is done in a very subtle way and looks more like a plot from "Star Trek" than from Power Rangers.

Technical Features: The menus on this DVD are better than that of past Power Rangers DVDs. Last season's menus were probably the worst I've seen in awhile. Disney owed us and they came through. The motion menus on this disc rival those of major motion pictures, including the new Star Wars Trilogy DVD Box. The average DVD Collector would be pleased.
In addition the Disc is encoded with Dolby Surround Sound. Playback on my TV through an S-Video cable using 4.1 THX Certified Speakers really pulls the surround sound to the foreground and shows how well this disc was made.

Extras: If you bought the early Power Rangers Ninja Storm DVDs, you probably scoffed at the extras, which were a bit of a joke, even for the target demographic. If you bought the Power Rangers Dino Thunder DVDs you probably felt the same way and wondered why two episodes of the previous season were deemed "extras" rather than a new disc. With Power Rangers S. P. D. however, the extras are pretty good. The first is based on those old "Join the ARMY" PSAs, and relates to joining S. P. D. - Disney includes a website URL for anyone interested. This is fairly humorous and I confess, I did enjoy it. The second extra is a "Zord Simulator," which is similar to an arcade style video game. Most people will probably complain that we still don't have deleted scenes, or "standard" extras, but given the target audience, this is probably a nice extra, and it beats the Dino Thunder virtual trading cards that couldn't be traded with anyone.

Packaging:
This is admittedly this DVDs weak spot; the packaging isn't even on par with what some fans have done for their collections. It looks like a five minute Photoshop job and for such a well-done DVD I would have expected better. In addition my first copy of this Disc (I purchased two of them.) was loose in its' case, a common problem with Buena Vista Home Entertainment DVDs. Especially Power Rangers DVDs which I've had to return on five occasions due to the disc not being pushed all the way into the center hub and being scratch upon purchase. Disney should fix this on future releases. Shake the case when you get the disc or you may find a nasty surprise when it's all scratched up as you open it. (Disney will replace the Discs for free though if you call them and pay for the shipping as well so it's not so much a loss as it is a nuisance.)

Additional notes:
When watching this DVD, long-time Power Rangers fans should be ready to look for some serious "in-jokes" - younger fans will appreciate them too if they view the Power Rangers Generations block on ABC Family. Here are a few things to watch out for:

- The A-Squad Power Rangers have the helmets from Power Rangers in Space with a slight modification made to them.
- Fans of the shows' Japanese counterpart will recognize the character of "Doggie Cruger" as a nod to his Japanese counterpart, "Doggie Kruger."
- The same man who wrote the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers theme song, Ron Aaron Wasserman, composed the theme song.

The Good: Five episodes on the first DVD for once. The show is excellent, and the DVD is better than I expected.

The Bad: Disney is still making "Mini-movies" rather than standard episode. The opening and ending credits have been lifted from every episode with the exception of Beginnings (opening credits) and Dogged (ending credits) having one set of credits. This is really a style issue, but it annoys me.

The Ugly: A packaging issue that has been a problem since Prelude to a Storm was release is still plaguing Power Rangers DVDs. I seriously hope Disney is trying to fix this, as it's a pretty common flaw.

Final verdict: If you're a Power Rangers fan, buy this DVD. If you're a parent, you won't be disappointed and you may find yourself enjoying this disc as well. DVD Collectors will most certainly have mixed feelings on this disc though, while young children and teenagers will most likely enjoy it. This is the best Power Rangers DVD release to date, satisfying younger and older fans alike. If you like this series, I recommend checking out Power Rangers Time Force which amazon.com also has for sale. It's only on VHS, but it's similar in style to Power Rangers S.P.D.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Power Rangers series.......2005-06-14

I was a fan of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers back in the day. Once that version ended, and was turned into Power Rangers: Zeo, I quickly lost interest. With each following version, I made it a point to check out at least one episode out of curiosity, but didn't really see anything about them which interested me (though I've since come to appreciate the version known as Time Force).
Last year, I was drawn back in with the return of Jason David Frank as Tommy for Power Rangers: Dino Thunder. I found that version to be quite entertaining. Especially given all of the little in-jokes and references to the past. I was sad to see that version come to an end.
During Dino Thunder's time on the air, I was also introduced to Power Rangers' Japanese counterpart, Super Sentai. Among the SS shows I managed to track down was what was then the most recent version, Tokusou Sentai DekaRanger. This show was absolutely fantastic. I loved the idea of a team who was charged with protecting the planet from hostile extraterrestrial intelligence (and done in a much better fashion than the less than stellar Men in Black films).
With the end of Dino Thunder, it was time for the new version of Power Rangers to debut. This time it would be derived from, you guessed it, Tokusou Sentai DekaRanger.
Power Rangers: S.P.D. (Space Patrol Delta), maintains the basic premise of DekaRanger, but gives it its own unique spin. For example, they maintained the idea of their leader being an alien dog creature, Doggie Cruger (I believe the spelling is slightly different between the Japanese and U.S. versions). However, rather than being a soft, furry dog alien, as he is in DekaRanger, Cruger is a hard, scaly, almost reptilian looking alien dog creature.
Another example is in the maintaining of the different Rangers having unique powers (such as the ability to read minds) when not morphed into their Ranger forms. Though, again, what the powers are is not necessarily the same as the ones in its Japanese counterpart.
For me, though, the best part of the American "S.P.D." is the action. This version of Power Rangers is absolutely slick in its action content. I would say the fight sequences/choreography is on par with such aci-fi action series as Mutant X (i.e.: quite excellent, esp. given its low budget). Though in some sequences, it does fall prey to the obvious stunt doubles (something which even high quality genre shows like Star Trek, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have fallen prey to as well).
On the downside, there is at least one character among the Rangers themselves who is rather annoying. That being Sky, the Blue Ranger. Between all of his prattling on about how he would be best suited to be named the Red Ranger, and then his whining upon being named Blue, I wanted to strangle him by the end of the DVD.
On the whole, though, whether you are a Power Rangers fan or not (though I can't imagine why you'd be looking at this item if you're not a fan already), I would very much recommend checking out this title. As far as Power Rangers goes, it really is quite excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Power Legacy with the Children.......2006-11-10

I purchased this product for my 4 year old nephew, Kobie. Kobie was excited, he enjoyed this movie so much. No one was able to even talk while he watched his movie. He has watched so much that he can now tell you all about it. This made me the greatest auntie in the whole world. And that was my reward. Two thumbs up for Power Rangers Dino Thunder. And the price was great too. Oh yeah, I had amazon.com to mail the product straigt to him; and for a 4 year old, that was awesome. Thanks Amazon.com

3 out of 5 stars Legacy of Power made this DVD really good .......2005-02-08

I bought this DVD specifically for "Legacy of Power" episode, it's great. That episode shows a brief history of the power rangers to the Dino thunder Rangers.

The rest that are featured in this DVD are "Back in Black" which is continuation of the episode "Legacy of Power" where Tommy becomes a ranger.

Then there is the episode "Diva in Distress" it features Kira and her best friend who is now a super star, and where people are being turned old and wrinkled by Mesagog. Through the course of the episode Kira tries to show that it's not what's on the out side that counts but on the in side

"Golden Boy" is another episode, in this one Zeltrax ends up creating his own son, who battles out the rangers, at first they struggle then the rangers get back on their feet.

"Game On" is the last episode on this DVD and it's about Ethan that gets addicted to this game he is playing, that he spends most of his nights at the rangers meet out place. There is a monster lose with the ability to send the rangers into that very game, so that's what he does with Kira and Ethan.

I Can't say much about the episodes except that they were all alright but Legacy of Power was the best. I wasn't really a fan of Dino thunder because it was just too weird compared to Wild Force, Light Speed or any other series before Wild force. But you guys might like those episodes.

Another thing that I wanted to bring up was that, Tommy some times is the center of attention in some of the episodes and it gets to be really annoying in the sense that Tommy has had his fun as a ranger and it seems like he is stealing the spot light of the other rangers. Other than that he is great just reduce the spot light on Tommy and it would be cool.

4 out of 5 stars Legacy of Power..........2005-01-22

This, obviously, is a review of the second DVD released of the 2004 incarnation of "Power Rangers", called Dino Thunder, which is derived from the Japanese "Super Sentai" series Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger.
This particular volume begins with what I consider to be the most fascinating episode of the series, "Legacy of Power", for which the DVD is named. In this episode, Dr. Thomas "Tommy" Oliver (played by Jason David Frank), has been captured, and the Rangers are back at their command center (located under Dr. Oliver's home) trying to figure out what might have happened, when they come upon a file in the computer. This is no ordinary file, however. It turns out to be a video journal chronicling the history of every team of Power Rangers in existence up to that point (from Mighty Morphin through to Dino Thunder). Basically, the show then gives the audience clips of the various teams of Rangers. As usual for clip shows of this type, there is the flaw in logic in that with most of it, there is no way that Tommy should have had video of this stuff at his disposal. However, given that it the primary audience is children, and the fact that the episode was designed to celebrate being the 500th episode of the overall "Power Rangers" television series, this is easily forgiven.
The second episode "Back in Black", is the continuation of the first episode on this disk. This time, focusing on the attempt to rescue Tommy from the clutches of Mesogog. This episode also marks the return of Tommy as a Power Ranger (he was originally the Green, as well as the White ranger on the original Mighty Morphin, as well as the Red Zeo, and the first Red Turbo rangers), when he is given the powers of the black Dino Gem, making him (obviously), the black ranger.
"Diva in Distress" is one of the goofier entries into this series. The episode centers around a monster who absorbs the youth out of people. It's not the best episode, but it is fun.
"Game On" is another rather goofy episode, in which the Blue Ranger gets pulled (literally) into the video game he's been obsessively playing.
"Golden Boy", the final entry on this disk, is a pretty cool episode, in which Zeltrax inadvertantly creates a creature who regards him as his father (in the original Abaranger, this creature was apparently designed to poke some fun at fellow Japanese creation Ultraman). This episode also plants some seeds which lead to the discovery of who/what Mesogog is, as well as to the creation of the White ranger.
Overall, if you are a fan of Power Rangers, this release is a no-brainer for you to buy. If you like shows dealing with superheroes, or giant monsters/mecha, this incarnation of Power Rangers is pretty entertaining. If you are an old school Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan who's no longer into the show, I recommend giving this a chance, if for no reasons other than the cool MMPR clips is "Legacy of Power", as well as the return of Jason David Frank as Tommy, the "legend" of the PR universe.
