3 Stars for Both Movies.......2001-08-06
Kids from Shaolin: This movie is interesting to watch. The acting and direction is not that great. In fact, take it all with a grain of salt. The movie was obviously made for children (it begins with a cartoon, and several of the main characters are kids). However, the movie has its redeeming qualities. The big reason to see this movie is for the action. Throughout most of the film, the action is slow, and not too exciting. It is mildly impressive at times. However, the finale is excellent. The last fight scene is over ten minutes long with tons of characters fighting in an all out martial arts sequence, like no others before it. Besides Jet Li, this film features kung fu expert Pan Qing Fu. See the movie only for the action.
Dead End of Besiegers: This is an unusal movie. For starters, Rong Guang Yu plays a Japanese fighter (he's Chinese), who accidentally ends up in China. His character tries to learn a style called The Dog Fist from Cynthia Kahn, in order to return to Japan and restore his honor. However, Rong Guang Yu ends up getting mixed up with some pirates in China and ends up into a lot of trouble. In the end, he must help everyone in their fight against the evil Japanese pirates. The film gets boring at times, but try to stay awake. Most of the acting is not that great. However, the action does have its good moments, even though most of it is only so-so. Don't get too depressed because there are scenes (like the finale) where Rong Guang Yu and Cynthia Kahn get to show off their exceptional skill, and make the film worthwhile.
Neither one of these films is a classic, but [...], your money becomes money well spent.
