After creating the last great traditionally animated film of the 20th century, The Iron Giant, filmmaker Brad Bird joined top-drawer studio Pixar to create this exciting, completely entertaining computer-animated film. Bird gives us a family of "supers," a brood of five with special powers desperately trying to fit in with the 9-to-5 suburban lifestyle. Of course, in a more innocent world, Bob and Helen Parr were superheroes, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. But blasted lawsuits and public disapproval forced them and other supers to go incognito, making it even tougher for their school-age kids, the shy Violet and the aptly named Dash. When a stranger named Mirage (voiced by Elizabeth Pena) secretly recruits Bob for a potential mission, the old glory days spin in his head, even if his body is a bit too plump for his old super suit.

Bird has his cake and eats it, too. He and the Pixar wizards send up superhero and James Bond movies while delivering a thrilling, supercool action movie that rivals Spider-Man 2 for 2004's best onscreen thrills. While it's just as funny as the previous Pixar films, The Incredibles has a far wider-ranging emotional palette (it's Pixar's first PG film). Bird takes several jabs, including some juicy commentary on domestic life ("It's not graduation, he's moving from the fourth to fifth grade!").

The animated Parrs look and act a bit like the actors portraying them, Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter. Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee also have a grand old time as, respectively, superhero Frozone and bad guy Syndrome. Nearly stealing the show is Bird himself, voicing the eccentric designer of superhero outfits ("No capes!"), Edna Mode.

Nominated for four Oscars, The Incredibles won for Best Animated Film and, in an unprecedented win for non-live-action films, Sound Editing.

The Presentation
This two-disc set is (shall we say it?), incredible. The digital-to-digital transfer pops off the screen and the 5.1 Dolby sound will knock the socks off most systems. But like any superhero, it has an Achilles heel. This marks the first Pixar release that doesn't include both the widescreen and full-screen versions in the same DVD set, which was a great bargaining chip for those cinephiles who still want a full-frame presentation for other family members. With a 2.39:1 widescreen ratio (that's big black bars, folks, à la Dr. Zhivago), a few more viewers may decide to go with the full-frame presentation. Fortunately, Pixar reformats their full-frame presentation so the action remains in frame.

The Extras
The most-repeated segments will be the two animated shorts. Newly created for this DVD is the hilarious "Jack-Jack Attack," filling the gap in the film during which the Parr baby is left with the talkative babysitter, Kari. "Boundin'," which played in front of the film theatrically, was created by Pixar character designer Bud Luckey. This easygoing take on a dancing sheep gets better with multiple viewings (be sure to watch the featurette on the short).

Brad Bird still sounds like a bit of an outsider in his commentary track, recorded before the movie opened. Pixar captain John Lasseter brought him in to shake things up, to make sure the wildly successful studio would not get complacent. And while Bird is certainly likable, he does not exude Lasseter's teddy-bear persona. As one animator states, "He's like strong coffee; I happen to like strong coffee." Besides a resilient stance to be the best, Bird threw in an amazing number of challenges, most of which go unnoticed unless you delve into the 70 minutes of making-of features plus two commentary tracks (Bird with producer John Walker, the other from a dozen animators). We hear about the numerous sets, why you go to "the Spaniards" if you're dealing with animation physics, costume problems (there's a reason why previous Pixar films dealt with single- or uncostumed characters), and horror stories about all that animated hair. Bird's commentary throws out too many names of the animators even after he warns himself not to do so, but it's a lively enough time. The animator commentary is of greatest interest to those interested in the occupation.

There is a 30-minute segment on deleted scenes with temporary vocals and crude drawings, including a new opening (thankfully dropped). The "secret files" contain a "lost" animated short from the superheroes' glory days. This fake cartoon (Frozone and Mr. Incredible are teamed with a pink bunny) wears thin, but play it with the commentary track by the two superheroes and it's another sharp comedy sketch. There are also NSA "files" on the other superheroes alluded to in the film with dossiers and curiously fun sound bits. "Vowellet" is the only footage about the well-known cast (there aren't even any obligatory shots of the cast recording their lines). Author/cast member Sarah Vowell (NPR's This American Life) talks about her first foray into movie voice-overs--daughter Violet--and the unlikelihood of her being a superhero. The feature is unlike anything we've seen on a Disney or Pixar DVD extra, but who else would consider Abe Lincoln an action figure? --Doug Thomas

Pixar Makes Another Hit!.......2007-06-14

The Incredibles is a fun story about a family of super heroes and how they try to integrate back into society once super heroes are outlawed due to lawsuits. (Some people just don't want to be saved!) A funny concept! Great characters, a great villian, a great family movie!

Among my favorites, animated OR live-action........2007-05-22

This is, hands down, my favorite animated film. But more than that, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. Not only is the look gorgeous (at once modern and retro), but it has one of the most emotionally complex storylines of any "kids" movie I've seen - dealing with mortality, family dynamics, and more. The filmmakers get a lot of mileage out of an extraordinary family having to deal with ordinary situations, and some of the dialogue to that effect is truly thought-provoking. In addition, for comic book geeks, there are some great bits poking fun at the habits of superheroes and supervillians. All in all, a brilliant, touching, and hilarious movie that most everyone can enjoy on many different levels, though it's not a film I'd recommend for very young kids.

Jack Jack Attack.......2007-04-27

i think the incredibles is a great film, my baby girl has seen it like a hundred times, and i'm still not as sick of it as blues clues.
though the main character, mr incredible, in the beginning of the film, is pompous and perfect, it then reflects the problems with our society as a whole, how we mistreat those who sacrifice themselves for us, how good, honest people, even perfect people, can get screwed and spend 15 years of misery, struggling to survive...subjecting themselves to complete diminishment by other evil and vindictive people, reducing their lives to near nothing...but good people will only let ya push 'em so far...
try to harm their families... and they will fight back, and win.
and i love the adult humor within, like when middle-aged mom sees the reflection of her bottom and then desperately sighs. too funny. :-)

i especially like the short film on the second disc called "jack-jack-attack"....it shows what the babysitter kara had to go through while everyone was away...incredibly funny.

Among the many entries in the comic-book-movie frenzy, Fantastic Four is refreshing because it doesn't take itself too seriously. Characterization isn't too deep, and the action is a bit sparse until the final reel (like most "first" superhero movies, it has to go through the "how did we get these powers and what we will do with them" churn). But it's a good-looking cast, and original comic-book cocreator Stan Lee makes his most significant Marvel-movie cameo yet, in a speaking role as the FF's steadfast postal carrier, Willie Lumpkin. Newcomers to superhero movies might find the idea of a family with flexibility, strength, invisibility, and force fields a retread of The Incredibles, but Pixar's animated film was very much a tribute to the FF and other heroes of the last 40 years. The irony is that while Fantastic Four is an enjoyable B-grade movie, it's the tribute, The Incredibles, that turned out to be a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

Not Bad But Hardly A Replacement For The Original Release.......2007-06-28

Although this new editiion of the Fantastic Four movie may seem like nothing but a ploy for ripping off some of your hard-earned money, I have to admit that the producers have inserted alot of important key scenes back into a movie that it has successfully elevated the movie above it's original popcorn-movie status.

However, I was generally quite dissatisfied with this DVD release because, it seems as if the editors were rushed to put this edition out into the market in time for the release of the 2nd Fantastic 4 movie.

For one thing, the video quality of the extended cut is actually somewhat inferior to the original, in general, if you're using a 40" and above HD (or full HD) screen, you will notice that the overal picture seem a little duller and blurrer than the original release. There is also a brief scene of Reed and Sue in the Baxter Building where the film appears to be extremely noisy; I suspect the editors just didn't have the time to complete that scene to meet the dvd release deadline.

Also, the soundtrack for some of the reinserted scenes were almost non-existent, and a few of the original sound effects and certain original scores written specifically for a few of the key scenes have been replaced.

I would recommend anyone who is a hard-core fan of this movie or those who doesn't own a copy of the original release to go ahead and grab this edition of the movie, but if you already own a copy of the original release(standard or deluxe two-disc release) of this movie, you might want to consider renting it first before considering purchasing.

having seen the original theatrical release and found it fantastic i must say this about the extended dvd version. this ranks in my opinion along with SUPERMAN THE MOVIE ( 1978),SPIDERMAN 3 and SUPERMAN RETURNS as the greatest superhero movie's . in this day of utter crap out there in the movie world what these movie's contain is a lot of heart and are really well made. so absolute cheers to these fine movies they all have something special in them. nuff'said

Some good scenes but I can't recommend it.......2007-06-22

Long story short, I liked Fantastic Four. It had it's faults, mainly it's portrayal of Dr. Doom, but it was fun. I was disappointed in the extended cut though. Most of the added scenes were OK. More character development, more story, a reference to the Puppet Master and that Herbie robot, but in the end, it felt as though they just Frankensteined this thing together from leftover parts. The scenes with Reed and Sue in the planetarium then again on the bridge being the exact same scene was the worst offender. And the part where Alicia gives Thing a spongebath just felt wrong on so many levels. There were a couple of interesting documentaries and the original version is thoughtfully included on this disc so for those who haven't bought it yet. All in all, worth watching just to see what could've been but it's no improvement over the original.

Almost Better Than Breathing!.......2007-06-21

This movie is like a rocketship that you get on, and then you ride into space and the turbulence doesn't even effect you at all, and it's a very smooth landing either on whatever planet the rocketship lands or on its eventual re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Fantastic Four rules the school!

If you've ever seen other comic book movies like Batman or Spiderman or Darkman or Superman or X-Man, you know that they are usually not very good. But the Fantastic Four are absolutely excellent and every superhero movie should take notes on how great this movie really is.

Fantastic Four is about four friends who have wonderful magical powers. One guy is super-limber, and another guy can turn into fire, and another guy is really really strong, and there is a girl who can become invisible if she wants to. Never before and never again have so many different and exciting superpowers been on display, and you will jump out of your chair cheering every time they get to defeat bad guys (which is often). You may not even want to sit down because you'll be out of your chair that much. However, if you want to get good exercise, then you will sit down from time to time, because then it will be very good for your quads.

The special effects are thrilling, the actors are dynamic, and the story is just like a rocketship.

I hope you stop reading this review right now and go rent this movie immediately. And if you are still reading this sentence, why don't you go re-read the last sentence and ask yourself why you're so disobedient?

Be careful: the stretchy man and the fire man may come and get you!!! Just kidding.

Do yourself and your community a favor and buy many copies of this movie.

Fantastic Movie.......2007-06-20

My Opinion: The Fantastic Four is an awesome movie. One of the best superhero groups/Family ever created. Stan Lee out did himself on this group of famous superheroes. The Fantastic Four Rocks.

While I enjoyed it as simple entertainment and a closer link up to the comic that I never got around to really reading - I don't recommend it for youngsters.

I enjoyed the actors interpertation of the characters there was just a little too much eye candy for the [men?]
Not up to par with "Ghost Rider" or "X-Men" - still am glad that I bought it for the comic characters collection of movies.

Am waiting now for the "Silver Surfer" to blast through.
Did thoroughly enjoy the features -- I like explainations of characters and story.
Poor old "Doom" was a mess. Chiklis really brought his character to life.
Boy, to carry 60 pounds of costume must have helped put him in good condition.

Definitely recommend for most adults.

I just plain LOVE this movie!.......2007-06-30

I didn't grow up on comic books or stories... but I am really getting into the superhero movies that keep coming out. I really enjoy this movie because of the variety of characters. Of course, the addition of great actors is a bonus - especially the super-sexy Julian McMahon.

Keep in mind, when you watch sci-fi, you have to suspend your disbelief and just go with the flow. Those who want to sit and question the science or analyze the movie aren't going to enjoy it. Enjoy it for the action, the people, the actors, and the basic storyline. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the ride!

A good addition to your DVD collection!

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I got it used through [...]. Some comic turned movies, or cartoon turned movies are not that great. This is well worth the money. Plus, it has Jessica Alba in it!

Fantastic Four.......2007-05-14

A must for everyone who loves superhero movies, especially those based on Marvel Comics characters. This was the original "first family" of superheroes created by Stan Lee. They are brought to the screen by accurately lifting them from the pages of the ocmics with their diverse personalities and petty bickering. Whether you saw it at the theater or not, this is a DVD to own, especially with the sequel only a month away.

Great Picture Quality and Sound Makes a Good Movie Even Better!.......2007-06-12

I'm not going to remark on my opinion of the story, actors or direction of the film because you can read that kind of stuff on a movie review site.

What I will tell you is that the Blu-ray version rocks! The picture is great - so clear you feel like you are right there and the sound is clean, defined, and will shake the foundation of your house on the exciting parts if you crank it up.

Don't even bother with the DVD version, you'll feel like your watching the flick with blur goggles on. Go with Blu-ray and experience the movie the way it was meant to be seen!

I'll be the first to admit. Fantastic Four has found a way into my "guilty pleasure" movies. I hear people go on and on about how it wasn't so great, that it was bad, etc. I, however, enjoyed it immensely.

I'm not going to review the movie itself...since it would be like beating a dead horse. What I will speak about is the picture quality of this BD.

The transfer is done by using a MPG2 codec. Unfortunately, while the codec can produce an excellent high def transfer, it requires a lot of disk space; for this transfer, a 25GB BD disk was used, which is not enough for the better MPG2 transfers. With that said, however, the quality is not bad at all. I wouldn't put it up there with the best, but it's definetly a big jump from regular DVD, and your eyes will be pleased.

Fantastic four actually delivers what it promises- a film which is based on a comic book. So if you put aside the negative reviews and watch it in a light and "popcorn" mood you will actually enjoy it.

The film is about a team that goes into space to study a unique phenomenon which, in turn, alters their dna and they get special powers. And the Fantastic Four are born. Jessica Alba is gorgeous but Flame and Thing/Rock really spice the film up.

The film is not really true to the comic book but it does not really matter as it is entertaining provided that you watch it in a relaxed mood. There are some flows and the romance outcome is predictable but you will enjoy it.Moreover it sets it self up for more sequels and hopefully they will be as good.

The blu-ray version is excellent and the special effects come out in a stunning form. The picture is as sharp as it can be and makes the film even more enjoyable.

A good fun flick with shallow story.......2007-01-19

I know you have probably hear that this is a really bad movie. It is no spiderman but it has a couple of good qualities. It is a fun action movie. The stroy is shallow yet it never reeally get boring. I would say if you like the Fantastic Four then you will like (not love) this movie. Hope the sequel is better.

OVERPRICED ?.......2006-11-16

I'm really excited that FOX is finally releasing some of it's catalog titles on Blu-Ray. But these titles are exactly that catalog titles, that are priced higher than most studios day and date releases. The picture and sound quality are on par with Sony / Warner Bros. / Paramount / Disney, not any better or worse. The "extras" are sorely missing. I'm really getting tired of certain studios setting up for the "double dip" by not including the basic extras from their dvd couterparts. Yes, I did purchase this movie, but I feel cheated having to pay this much to enjoy the Fantastic Four in Hi-def, when M:I:3 looks a lot better, is packed with features, and costs less. Come on Sony, Fox, & Disney step up your Hi-def game.

Nominated for four Oscars, The Incredibles won for Best Animated Film and, in an unprecedented win for non-live-action films, Sound Editing.

Brad Bird still sounds like a bit of an outsider in his commentary track, recorded before the movie opened. Pixar captain John Lasseter brought him in to shake things up, to make sure the wildly successful studio would not get complacent. And while Bird is certainly likable, he does not exude Lasseter's teddy-bear persona. As one animator states, "He's like strong coffee; I happen to like strong coffee." Besides a resilient stance to be the best, Bird threw in an amazing number of challenges, most of which go unnoticed unless you delve into the 70 minutes of making-of features plus two commentary tracks (Bird with producer John Walker, the other from a dozen animators). We hear about the numerous sets, why you go to "the Spaniards" if you're dealing with animation physics, costume problems (there's a reason why previous Pixar films dealt with single- or uncostumed characters), and horror stories about all that animated hair. Bird's commentary throws out too many names of the! ! animators even after he warns himself not to do so, but it's a lively enough time. The animator commentary is of greatest interest to those interested in the occupation.

X-Men: The Last Stand is the third installment in the popular superhero franchise, and it's an exciting one with a splash of fresh new characters. When a scientist named Warren Worthington II announces a "cure" for mutant powers, it raises an interesting philosophical question: is mutant power a disease that needs a cure, or is it a benefit that homo superior enjoys over "normal" human beings? No surprise that Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants resist the idea that they need to be cured, and declare war on the human race. But it's a little tougher for the X-Men, led by Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Cyclops (James Marsden), and Storm (Halle Berry). If you're Rogue (Anna Paquin), for example, your power means you can't even touch your boyfriend, Iceman (Shawn Ashmore). To compound matters, someone previously thought dead has returned, and might be either friend or foe.

With director Bryan Singer having moved on to Superman Returns, the franchise passes to the hands of Brett Ratner (Rush Hour), whose best work is done in the big action sequences such as a showdown between mutant armies. But it's difficult to manage the sheer volume of characters when adding longtime comic-book stalwarts such as Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Angel (Ben Foster), and one character in particular deserved better than an off-screen dismissal. And fans of the original Dark Phoenix comic book story might be underwhelmed by the movie's resolution. X-Men: The Last Stand is presumably the last film in the series, but the ambiguous ending leaves possibilities open. Look for the two writers most responsible for making the X-Men who they were, Stan Lee and Chris Claremont, in early cameos. --David Horiuchi

Whose fault is it anyway?.......2007-06-18

I've watched this movie a couple of times now, and I still can't decide if I like it or not. Some complain about Halle Berry's increased role in the film. I don't understand how she couldn't have a bigger part, since Cyclops and Professor X die and Jean is a zombie most of the time. That only leaves Wolverine and Storm as the remaining members of the team!
My question has to do with the script. Which came first, the poor script or folks jumping ship, or did a bad script get even worse when key players bolted?
Marsden and Singer ran off to do Superman. Superman was good, but it wasn't great. Since the story is about Dark Phoenix, it would seem that Marsden would have had a bigger role as Cyclops in X-Men than as Lois Lane's fiance. And Singer had done the two previous very successful X-Men movies. Why would he think doing Superman would be better than XMIII? It sounds like both men knew a bad thing when they saw it and ran away as fast as they could.
And what about Patrick Stewart? Did the original story called for Xavier's death, or did Mr. Stewart want to be written out of the story? His death seemed to serve no purpose in the storyline - other than it was easier to show her evil side by killing him off as opposed to having DP destroy star systems as she did in the comic.
Of course the other possibility is that they were setting up the Wolverine movie by doing away with the X-Men......

The Best movie in the X-Men trilogy!.......2007-06-16

This is the Best movie in the X-Men trilogy! I enjoyed this movie a-lot! It's more entertaining than Bryan Singer's X-Men movies. Brett Ratner and Hugh Jackman did a great job with this movie! X-Men the Last Stand is great film! Bryan Singer is a poor director! Bryan Singer's work on Superman Returns proves that he could not direct a superhero film. X-Men :The Last Stand is a must see movie! A

Failure of a finale.......2007-06-12

This is supposedly the last in the X-Men series before they go on to more focused films like Magneto and Wolverine. The Last Stand is appreciably different than the two previous installments due primarily to it featuring a different director, and secondarily because they continue to introduce more characters from the series. This does make it markedly more difficult to maintain focus. The original X-Men comic books took years to move through the same story arc. This was evident while viewing this film. The story seemed fractured because there were so many sub-plots. It was almost like there was a bunch of different movies cut and put together. The forays into the characters we forgot we were supposed to care about are forgettable, and could easily have been cut. However, it was an entertaining film throughout with great acting and spectacular effects. The battle scenes were bigger than the last two films because the mutants moved from the underground to do battle out in the open. I really don't know what else to say. Now that I'm actually writing this down, the movie wasn't all that great. It was a lot of fun to watch, but it could have been much better. The effects tried to compensate for the weaknesses elsewhere, but even the giant finale battle was sort of aloof. We were sort of detached from what was actually going on, and I felt it was more of an atmosphere of battle than actual action. I think as a package of three films - the X-Men trilogy - everything would be really cool. I enjoyed it, I really liked it, but it is far from being the pinnacle of movie making - even at comic book standards.

Girl power (or if you prefer, woman power) gets a goofy boost in My Super Ex-Girlfriend, a breezy rom-com that's as fun as it is forgettable. As devised by former Simpsons writer Don Payne and directed by comedy veteran Ivan (Ghostbusters) Reitman, the premise is certainly promising, and much of that promise is gamely fulfilled. When a New York building designer named Matt (Luke Wilson) discovers that his new girlfriend Jenny (Uma Thurman) is actually a crime-fighting, disaster-solving superhero named G-Girl who's also needy, neurotic, and unpredictably volatile, he realizes he's got to dump her as politely as possible or face the potentially deadly consequences. Since he's really in love with a cute colleague (Anna Faris), and since the arch-villain Professor Bedlam (Eddie Izzard) has been in love with G-Girl since they were outcast pals in high school, you can easily figure out where the comedy is going. But getting there is surprisingly enjoyable, given the rather flat execution of a pretty good idea. The shark-tossing scene is a highlight, and other memorable scenes compensate for Reitman's embrace of a bitchy female stereotype that's either insulting or truthful, depending on your own romantic experience as the dumper or dumpee. Rainn Wilson (from the American version of TV's The Office) performs the obligatory sidekick duties, and comedian Wanda Sykes is just plain annoying in a shrill and unnecessary role. Silly? You bet. Reitman was successful in creating an absolutely farce. An absolute parody of the superhero genre, melding with the romantic comedy. Hilarious at times, even slightly erotic (mostly due to the presence of the exotic Uma Thurman) this playful jaunt takes the jilted lover story to new heights... literally.

A crazed ego-charged superhero, Luke Wilson and the ever-hilarious Anna Faris lead a cast of characters that never cease to entertain.

In the spirit of National Lampoons, this movie is pure Reitman comedic genius.

Missed Opportunity!.......2007-06-23

Great concept for a story, however, the writers missed this one by many miles! Uma Thurmans character was a little over the top. The story missed many, many opportunities to explore the content they actually brought up. Some of the things you see in the trailer were not nearly as funny as you thought it would be. There is just so much more they could have done, yet they choose to lean on the obsurd, stupid and idiotic.

Not as good as the trailers.......2007-05-31

I tend to be a little picky about which movies I watch, especially for those rare theaters visits, but to some degree for my rentals pick as well. The factor I most often use to influence my decisions are the films' trailers. Usually they are a decently reliable indicator of whether I will like a film, although once in a while it proves to be inaccurate. Unfortunately, this was one of those times.

We thought the trailers were funny and as a result, we figured that the movie would be as well. Though there were some humorous moments, the bulk of the movie tended to bog down in its attempt at a quirky romantic comedy and its clumsy effort at still also being a slapstick comedy, with the resulting awkward moments and slow pacing. The sappy and insipidly convenient ending is remarkably anti-climactic and so banal that people in the theater actually groaned aloud.

Luke Wilson played his usual (invariably unchanging) character of the meek and whiney guy who is the Anglo-fied version of the traditional film nebbish who never gets a break or seems to have any particular strengths, but ultimately ends up on top. Uma Thurman was funny in her role, but ultimately could not overcome the weak script and disappointing movie. Anna Faris is likable and cute as always, but like Uma, she was in a weak film that she couldn't save. Rainn Wilson, who does such an effective job as Dwight in NBC's "The Office", isn't as effectively cast in this role, though he does what he can. Eddie Izzard, a talented actor and comedian, has his performance wasted as well. Wanda Sykes, who is normally very funny, is just shrill in this film.

The film overall is a mild disappointment. It's not terrible, but it's not as funny as you would hope or expect, in spite of some humorous moments. I would have given 2.5 stars if it were an option, but it doesn't merit 3 in my opinion.

I would recommend this movie to people that like super heros. I thought it was funny and entertaining. I may review this movie many times, as I have seen it twice. Uma Thurman is a great actress and she adds, "great" to the word entertainment.

A rainy day fun Movie.......2007-05-07

I personally found this movie to be fun. It doesn't tax your brain, it explains why she has super powers, and in the end everything is tied up nicely in time for you to go to bed without any nagging questions. Its not Superman ... its not Spiderman ... its not even Superwoman ... but it is a fun, rainy day movie to watch, laugh and talk through with friends without becoming lost in the plot along the way. Uma Thurman was really cute I thought, as a super hero. A real person, with the same problems and idiocies and paranoia as most of us, but with the added weight of being a well known super hero. She did a really great job of showing the human side, because when it came down to it, she was just human.

For the Pokémon novice, this escapade will truly baffle: the narrated tale has virtually no dialogue except Pokémon speaking their names (Bulbasaur, for instance, will only express emotion by using variations of his name: "Bulba, Bulba-SAUR!"). I love these movie and it is the best of all the pokemon movies.It has some wonderful lessons.My favorite being why do we fight.We all share the same earth and the same sky.Just because we aren't the same doesn't mean we can't get along.Seeing Mewtwo's anger and then understanding is one of the best parts of the movie.Of course no pokemon movie would be without are favorite villians Team Rocket.So sit down,get some popcorn and watch Pokemon the first movie.

Great movie for children of all ages. I watched it with my 7 year old grandson, and I enjoyed it as much as he did. When Mew appeared we all started to mimic the mew sound. My grandson paid me a compliment and said, Gramma, you do that good. I told him I had a lot of practice since I owned cats all my life. Another thing I would like to mention is how amazed I am that my grandson can name each and every one of the Pokemon characters. Well worth buying.

I went to sleep during the 55 minute "regular" movie, then woke up for the even worse 20 minute short vacation film with no dialogue. I often tell friends it is the worst movie (at least the most boring) that I have ever seen.

I don't "get" Pokemon; in fact, I think it's pretty dumb. However, my son LOVES Pokemon. He has video games and books; I can credit the books and the role playing games on the Gameboy with helping him along with his reading. As a present, I bought him this movie, and he has watched it many, many times and loves it. If you have a child that likes Pokemon, then this is a good gift.

I had looked for this video to rent at our local video stores with no success. More recent movies were available but this one was not. The kids were very interested in seeing the first movie and were not disappointed when watching it. They have since viewed it several more times and say it is one of their favorites. Apparently, Mewtew is a 'special' Pokemon.

The Richard Donner cut of Superman II is an infamous legend come to life. Director Donner shot most of the sequel at the same time as his first blockbuster film, but somewhere along the line, the producers and studio lost confidence and brought in Richard Lester (The Three Musketeers) to rework the film, and receive sole credit. For years fans speculated on how different the final film was from Donner's original until an underground copy appeared showing a fully formed feature. In an unprecedented move, Warner Brothers officially embraces this alternate version. For those who have not been part of the rumor mill, know that Donner shot all the footage with Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman). You can find blow-by-blow descriptions of what is new/changed elsewhere, but most of the changes deal with Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder as the comic-book couple. Donner's cut provides alternate scenes for how Lois tests her hunch that Clark is Superman, the moment he reveals his identity, and how Lois unlearns that truth. Thing is, Lester's reshots are stronger, adding weight to the romance between the two, lifting the picture's stature. Lester also added the dandy Eiffel Tower opening. Donner's chief additions are in the Fortress of Solitude, where Marlon Brando returns to teach (Susannah York, as Superman's mom, appears in the Lester cut). The producers cut Brando's footage so they wouldn't have to pay him millions. The Brando/Reeve scenes continue the father/son dynamic of the first film. There is a great lesson in editing--Lester's less is better than Donner's more--when you compare how Kent turns back into Superman after losing his powers. The Donner cut is completely formed but does use some rehearsal footage, new effects, and some pieces shot by Lester. The history of cinema has many of these stories of movies reshot, hijacked, and changed from the original version, but here the underdog wins and Donner gets his chance to change history, even adding a note in the end credits about the use of fur and smoking as regrettable choices of the time.

Director Donner and creative consultant Tom Mankiewicz have a jolly good time revisiting their past on the commentary track. You get a clearer picture of who shot what, but the two have nothing good to say about Lester's edition. Donner doesn't go much into why he was dropped, just a difference of opinion and the need not to pay Brando. He also explains why the déjà vu ending of this edition was used in the first movie and a new ending would have been thought up for part 2. A quick featurette looks at how Michael Thau and a small crew reconstructed the film and compares several scenes from both versions. Also added are additional scenes shot by Donner but not used, most with Hackman. --Doug Thomas

And it's a must for every Superman fan, an important addition to the legend of the Man of Steel.

Definitely, one for fans and collectors........2007-06-27

I've looked forward to this release of Superman II for a while. Although I think Richard Donner's cut tells a more compelling story of the Man of Steel, I can see why the changes that were made for Lester's theatrical version. Also, one particular scene where they decided to take footage from the screen test (since the scene was never originally shot), looks out of place and breaks the flow of the movie. I understand Richard's intent, and it was a valiant attempt to show the scene as he envisioned it, but I'm not sure it was necessary. Anyway, the DVD is worth adding to your collection, especially if you're a fan of the first two Superman movies.

The Best Superman Film Ever!!!.......2007-06-16

This is the best Superman film ever.I love Donners version of the film more than Lesters.Lesters version is still good but they're missing Jor-El and other things I like about this one.In this one Jor-El is back instead of being replaced by Lara.In this one Lex visits the Fortress(like in lesters)but in this one Marlon Brando actually talks to him.I love it when Lois finds out Clark is Superman because it is funny.Lesters version was not funny but this one is. I also love the deleted scenes and commentary.The deleted scenes tell you what happened to Zod,NON,and Ursla and the commentary is great because director Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewciz talk about the film.I think any true Superman fan should buy this Donner version of Superman 2.

A definitive Superman II!.......2007-06-13

Superman: The Movie was a great film, but to me, the sequel (most of which was shot concurrently with the first film), was great at some points and not so great at others. Then I later discovered that the reason was due to there being two directors and a lot of the scenes I had a beef with were shot by Richard Lester not Richard Donner, who was fired after the first film's premier. Most painful to watch was the Clark Kent tripping scene and the Lois Lane Niagra Falls jump scene.

And then there's the stunning lack of Marlon Brando as Jor-El. A decision that was made to save money. Thankfully, that has been rectified.

Amazingly, Dick Donner and Michael Thau were able to recut the film using footage that was thought to be lost and did a whale of a job.

And fittingly, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, is dedicated to Christopher Reeve.
