A serial killer is on the loose. Women are being killed and body parts are being stolen. The police are stumped (so to speak). Meanwhile, Egyptmania seems to be gripping this small Florida town. Fuad Ramses's "exotic catering" shop is doing a booming business and his book, Ancient Weird Religious Rituals, is being studied by the local book club. Is there a connection between Ramses and the murders? Of course! In this movie by the wizard of gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, plot and suspense take a back seat to the gruesome and bloody murder scenes. The acting may not be very good, the script is weak at best, and the effects don't hold up to later standards of Hollywood gore, but there is an infectious enthusiasm that comes through Lewis's desire to shock his audience. The exploitation elements may be dated, but that only makes them all more entertaining. A shocking drive-in sensation when released in 1963, Blood Feast remains a milestone in the exploitation genre, followed (in what would come to be known as Lewis's "blood trilogy") by Two Thousand Maniacs! and Color Me Blood Red. --Andy Spletzer
Description
Nothing so appalling in the annals of horror has ever been seen before. When Mrs. Fremont hires crackpot Egyptian cultist Fuad Ramses to cater a party for her daughter, Suzette, she commits the culinary catastrophe of the century! Fuad immediately prepares a Blood Feast made from the grisly body parts of nubile young women. The world's first (and most notorious) "gore" film, "Blood Feast" is both shocking and hilarious. It's also the first of the infamous "blood trilogy" from director Herschell Gordon Lewis and producer Dave Friedman, who followed this perverse classic with the equally twisted "2000 Maniacs" and "Color Me Blood Red."
Customer Reviews:
The first ever "Gore" flick........2006-07-18
A crazed caterer who secretly worships an Egyptian goddess named Ishtar, he goes around the city seeking fresh young virgin girls then murders them especially hacks them to pieces so he can use their parts to appease his goddess. The police seemed baffled and disgusted by these strange and vile murders for they investigate, a mother is planning on having a party as she invites the caterer over as he has some plans in his twisted mind to appease Ishtar.
This movie went on to become the first ever gore flick to hit the screen, there'd been nothing like it before in cinema at the time. But when this movie hit theaters in july of 1962, audiences were appalled and disgusted by this flick for it made a fortune and gained infamy thus creating a landmark horror flick for being the first gore flick. The acting is kind of bad especially the script writing but there's some good if a little dated gore effects here in this movie like the gross tounge ripping scene, though it may be kind of laughable by today's standards this movie will remain an important flick in the genre for starting gore flicks and made H.G. Lewis a household name.
This special Edition DVD has decent picture and sound with extras like commentary from the director, trailer, a short and poster-and-still gallery.

You Idiots! .......2006-02-12
This is so terribly disgusting. Nobody needs to watch this gory movie. Why are audiences so entertained by watching a deranged maniac slicing up women. This movie was definetely made for a bunch of braindead mysoginists who find this entertaining, and maybe a couple of sex offenders. This along with "Blood Sucking Freaks" should be banned. They should have released a single-disc edition of "Star Wars" instead. Yeah and I'm sure that there are plenty of mysoginists on here ready to be entertained by watching a psycho mutiliating women. And I don't really care how many people do not find this review helpful. I don't even care is 1,000 people don't find this review helpful or even a million. If you are a fan of this movie you will definetely hate my guts. But if you are willing to get something else, then maybe you should buy something else. And pardon me for being narrow-minded but I fail to see why a deranged maniac slicing up women is so "fun."
A big "salute" to Herschell Gordon Lewis!.......2005-10-30
Are or Is "Underground" and/or "old school" horror your "cup-of-tea?" Then check out Blood Feast! Just for record, in my opinion, you'll see where a lot of death metal bands get their inspiration from!
bloody fun.......2005-05-30
in the year 1963 this movie came out. The excellent film is definetly remake quality. One of the films I want to do someday. Give it two severed thumbs up. Haha.
Horror fans have to see this, naturally.......2005-05-06
This is one of those few movies where everything that everyone says about it is precisely true: Utterly barebones production, flatly pathetic acting, stilted and pointless dialogue, and lots and lots of ultra-phony gore. Of course, this is pretty undisputedly the first real gore film, so horror fans pretty much have to see this. And, even if it weren't so important historically it would be worth seeing anyway, cause it's pretty damn cool either way.
Fortunately, in making the first gore film they didn't go halfway. Sure, there are tons of films which are gorier then it now, it's still gory enough that if it were redone, shot for shot with realistic, modern effects, it wouldn't be allowed an R rating in a million years. You got flaying, leg severing, heart extracting, tongue ripping, brain, um, snatching etc. And, while the gore effects are incredibly dated, they aren't quite as cheap and old as I would have imagined. The blood itself actually holds up fairly well, and looks better than much of the stage blood you'd see over the next 20 years or so. It's actually red! It is also delightfully shameless, perpetually leering at the simplistic effects in a way that makes Fulci look almost reserved by comparison. For example, fairly late in the film there is a 42 second pan over a flaying victim. (i.e. someone just covered with fake blood) 42 seconds may not sound that long when I just say it, but when you're actually watching it it's pretty damn funny, and seems to go on forever. It's also got some odd quirks, such as how virtually all the violence is performed in utter silence, with no sound effects, only music. It manages to make these scenes somehow poignant, in spite of the overall laughable nature of the project.
The film only gets 3 stars because much of the terrible acting and dialogue grows somewhat tiresome after a while. There are only a few topics: The cops whine about how they can't catch the mad butcher who is killing women, and stealing their body parts, and the civilains whine about there's a killer out there, and then reflect happily on the party they plan to have that Saturaday. (Turns out that the guy who's catering the party, Fuad Ramses, is the killer, and is gonna feed them the parts he stole. What a coincidence.) The directing is also amusingly flat. The camera hardly ever moves, nor do the actors. They just stand there, statue-stiff, delivering there lines. It's also got a fun soundtrack, with endless thumping tympani and cheesy organs and such. Lotsa people are irritated by it, but I find it quite amusing.
Yeah, you know if you wanna see this or not. So do it.

"There Is So Much Darkness Now ~ Come For The Miracle".......2007-06-25
Synopsis: On the daily trek from Juarez, Mexico to El Paso, Texas an ever increasing number of female workers are found raped and murdered in the surrounding desert. Investigative reporter Karina Danes (Minnie Driver) arrives from Los Angeles to pursue the story and angers both the local police and the factory owners who employee the undocumented aliens with her pointed questions and relentless quest for the truth.
Her story goes nationwide when a young girl named Mariela (Ana Claudia Talancon) survives a vicious attack and walks out of the desert crediting the Blessed Virgin for her rescue. Her story is further enhanced when the "Wounds of Christ" (stigmata) appear in her palms. She also claims to have received a message of hope for the Virgin Mary and soon a fanatical movement forms around her to fight against the evil that holds such a stranglehold on the area.
Critique: Possessing a lifelong fascination with such esoteric matters as Catholic mysticism, miracles and the mysterious appearance of the stigmata, I was immediately attracted to the '05 DVD release `Virgin of Juarez'. The film offers a rather unique storyline blending current socio-political concerns, the constant flow of Mexican migrant workers back and forth across the U.S./Mexican border and the traditional Catholic beliefs of the Hispanic population. I must say I was quite surprised by the unexpected route taken by the plot and the means and methods by which the heavenly message unfolds.
`Virgin of Juarez' is not a film that you would care to watch over and over again, but it was interesting enough to merit at least one viewing. Minnie Driver delivers a solid performance and Ana Claudia Talancon is perfect as the fragile and innocent visionary Mariela. Also starring Esai Morales and Angus Macfadyen (Braveheart).
This movie needed to be made........2006-12-01
The scenes in this film can be very disquieting due to their graphic re-enactment of real events, but this story needs to be told. I will say the violence was injected into the movie with as much taste as manageable when dealing with rape scenes, etc. Inspired by true events, women are being murdered in Juarez after they leave the factory where they work. A fearful community is suddenly given some hope when one of the young victims not only lives, but experiences 'stigmata' after seeing the Virgin Mary. I was shocked to learn that murders in Juarez are still happening and many are unsolved. I believe this director brought a very important story to the surface. Though it's never pleasant to think about young women being murdered, this movie depicts a harsh reality of the high cost of exploited-cheap labor.

This is junk, stay away.......2006-11-22
Mexican men are macho rapists, gangsters or ineffective bureaucrats. Mexican women are semi-pagan, pious fools. There are self-serving corporate types and even a pushy, culturally-insensitive liberal female reporter.
The story is absurd, the characters are unbelievable, the stereotypes are offensive.

God of killers.......2007-01-12
If you are idiot! do not buy this DVD!!! it is the worst copy of this film!!! Poor images, and the subtitles look like a madmans breakfast!!! As they said to Big Julie, on the way to the Forum, dont do it Big Julie!!!
I second that review!.......2004-07-27
This transfer is absolutely horrid. I have probably hundreds of 'budget' dvds and this is absolutely the worst transfer that I have seen to date.
To further amplify the first reviewer's comments, the subtitles are not only hard to read but generally IMPOSSIBLE to read. The bottom line of the subtitles is nearly always unreadable.
Stay away from this and look for a Hong Kong version instead. Beverly Wilshire transfers are always among the worst of the budget dvd's.
A possibly OK movie, UNVIEWABLE on DVD.......2001-12-21
One of the worst DVD transfers we have seen to date. Subtitles were imprinted on the original film, and frames jump all over the screen, making them impossible to read. Not to mention overall bad quality of video and audio. Otherwise, could be a something for Chow Yun Fat fans.
Chow Yun-Fat's first starring role in a motion picture.......2001-05-17
"God of Killers" is yet another in a long line of retitled Hong Kong films designed to get the unsuspecting public to either rent or buy a title that they may have previously seen. This 1981 film was Chow's first major starring role and he's excellent here. But why change the name of the film from the original "The Story of Woo Viet?" There's really no need to do so. "The Story of Woo Viet" is a serious drama/character study and features fine acting from Chow who had worked for years in Hong Kong television and was trying to make the move to feature films. In Fact, "The Story of Woo Viet" did well at the box office, but for the next several years, Chow's films did not do so well and it wasn't until 1985 that he finally broke through and he hasn't looked back since. By the way, those looking for a John Woo style action film will be sadly disappointed; this is very definitely a character study, with an unhappy ending, that showcases Chow's acting talent.
In all honesty, I cannot rate the VHS versions being offered by Amazon, as the copy that I have of this film was presented on DVD (that I picked up for five bucks at a Pathmark grocery store!). However, based on internet research that I have done on this film, I recommend that potential buyers stay away from the Arena Video version. While there's very little in the way of the usual crappy English dubbing (there are a few scenes spoken in English), the Arena version has the English subtitles cut-off at the bottom of the screen for large chunks of the film as does my budget DVD from Beverly Wilshire Filmworks (who are based in New York!).
Bottom line: As this was Chow Yun-Fat's first major film role in a superior Hong Kong film, viewers ought to give it a look. Just be careful with the version that you are buying. Buyer beware!

Best B-Movie in some time.......2007-05-03
I've got to say, I can't agree more with the praises given to this flick. I got a copy of the first Dead Body Man at a horror con and was soon sharing it among my friends. It became a classic among our drinking get togethers. There were a few minor complaints with the flick, but this second one wiped em all away. Rarely is a sequel better than the original, and even more rare in the indie world of film, but this one surpasses the first one. If you're a horror fan or a comic fan, check this out. It's a funny as hell story that pulls no punches. It's refreshing to see a movie that's not worried about being politically correct. There's gore, naked chicks and all kinds of twisted moments that'll leave you wanting to see more. Hopefully, this series keeps em coming. I'd love to see another one and even a comic done. If you like dark comedies, you should really check this out. There's a lot of bathroom humor, but it's brilliantly interlaced with some deep and interesting ideas. Trust me. Watch this and you'll see what I mean.
The laughs keep coming!.......2007-04-26
Following the award-winning 2004 horror/comedy, "Dead Body Man"..the guys at 4th Floor Pictures upped the ante and pushed the envelope further with the long awaited sequel, "Separation Anxiety". Folks, the on-screen menu is worth the price of the DVD alone. Wait a few moments and you'll see an impatient Willie do some pretty grotesque stuff. Anyways, the story picks up right where the first film left off. For those who haven't seen the first one, the films delivers a nice flashback to get you up to speed on where the film is at. Willie returns to kill more sinners for the man upstairs, and his twin brother escapes and is out for revenge. This film is definately more twisted and gory than the first. There's enough random, off the wall humor to keep the laughs coming and the blood flowing. For those who enjoyed the first film or enjoy a good indie dark comedy..Pick this DIY gem up!
Funny as Hell.......2007-04-24
This is a low budget flick but, its so damn funny, you really look past its budget. I've seen a ton of low budget movies but, this one I really enjoyed. It had me laughing so, hard I almost... Well, you get the idea. For a beer drinking good time, check it out.
