Terrible doing business with you.......2007-06-18

One star is actually very generous! I waited over 3 weeks after placing my order to contact the seller. His response to my inquiry of the shipping information was "Please allow 2 weeks for delivery". He didn't even take notice of the attachment containing the original invoice that showed we were already past that delivery date. I sent another email pointing this out, and again, I asked for the information of when and how the item was shipped. We are 9 days past that email, and I haven't heard a word. BUYERS BEWARE

Also, this was supposed to be a birthday gift for my 4 year old...maybe it will make it by Christmas!!!!

To truly appreciate this film one should remember that `Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' was released in '37 making it's production an incredible achievement in animation considering the overall state of the art at the time. This film was the spring board for the many Disney classics to follow in the years ahead making it a classic by that standard alone.

However having that said, after all these years the film can still stand on its own merits. The animation is enjoyable, the soundtrack is enchanting, at times haunting and the seven dwarfs are beloved by millions around the world. It may not be technically the best of Disney's animated films but it was the benchmark of all that was to follow and still has a loyal fan base after all these years. A true classic.

I was amazed how fantasic this film looked in the 2 disc Platinum Edition DVD! It is hard to believe this gem is 70 years old! The restoration is nothing short of incredible and there are tons of worthwhile extras too! I'm glad to see nothing was censored in this film! This is the way to treat all the Disney animated classics, completely restored and unedited with lots of extras. Come on Disney! Haven't we given you enough of our money!? Please stop editing these historical pieces and give them the treatment they deserve. If you must edit them, then release them both ways. One for the poor kiddie's parents who can't deal with some "PC" stereotypes and one for the purist who want to keep things they way they were meant to be seen!

I just recieved my copy of this dvd set and it was worth every penny and arrived quickly. It was beautifully remastered. It looks and sounds much better than my vhs copy. I now have a complete collection of the disney princess collection on dvd and I'm soooo happy about it! Thanks amazon for having available all these out of print titles. I loooooove this website!

This is an absolute wonderful classic. Our daughter watched this 3 times the first night we got this. I had not seen this since I was a young kid...what wonderful memories.

Kudo's to the Weinstein Company for releasing this Kung Fu classic on DVD.The audio and video restoration that went into this DVD release is absolutely incredible and Martial Arts fans won't be disappointed."King Boxer" is presented in it's Widescreen format and enhanced for 16x9 television's.The films colors are incredibly sharp and vibrant and the mono sound is clear and crisp.The video transfer of "King Boxer" is the absolute best version I have ever seen and fans of the Kung Fu genre will be amazed by the quality of this release.Sound options include original Mandarin and English dubbed version and choice of subtitles.The special features are an added bonus,specially the Trailer Gallery.This movie has it all,non-stop action,fierce fighting and plenty of blood.Watch the magnificent Lo Lieh as he masters the Iron Fist technique and exacts his revenge."King Boxer" is five star entertainment at it's very best!!

A classic finally gets its due.......2007-06-19

King Boxer (aka Five Fingers of Death) came out in 1973 and is a classic example of a Shaw Brothers kung fu film - a genre they helped pioneer and perfect with this movie being one of the finest efforts from this time period. It also has the distinction of being the first kung fu film to be released in the United States, just ahead of Bruce Lee's equally influential Enter the Dragon. In the 1980s, it inspired filmmaker John Carpenter to make Big Trouble in Little China and more recently was a huge influence on Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill movies.

The filmmakers maintain just the right level of pacing with very short lulls between action sequences. Let's face it - we're not watching King Boxer for its thoughtful characterization. That is not to say that this film is not well made or doesn't take itself seriously because it does, but it is hardly Shakespeare either. Director Cheng Chang Ho employs sudden zoom in and outs and even the occasional freeze frame during many of the film's dynamic fight scenes. This is a beautifully shot movie with expert use of the 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio with superb compositions of every frame. The use of shadows for dramatic effect in one scene, and a brief fight that takes place at sunset that looks like something right out of 1950s Technicolor era, is part of the reason why this film is so revered among kung fu film fans.

King Boxer features betrayal, torture, revenge and even some heroic style redemption thrown in for good measure - all heightened to melodramatic levels making for a very entertaining ride. Our hero has to deal with a devastating injury and his own self-doubts before he can face the bad guys and use the Iron Palm technique to save the day. You soon find yourself rooting for Chi-Hao to win the competition and the cute woman he loves as well. Even though our hero triumphs at the end, it is a terrible cost with friends, family and his mentor dead or horribly maimed all because of a petty rivalry between two martial arts schools.

There is an audio commentary by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and film critics Elvis Mitchell and David Chute. Love or hate Tarantino, the guy knows his film history, displaying an impressive encyclopedic knowledge of kung fu cinema. For example, he not only talks about how it was the first kung fu film released in America but then rattles off 5-6 other films that came after. This is a very entertaining, information-packed track by three guys who are fans of the film and display a genuine love for the genre. Highly recommended.

"Interview with Chang-Hwa Jeong." He talks about how he got involved with the film. Initially, he found the script to be "common" and studied Chinese history and literature in order to make improvements. He talks about some of the techniques he used to make the action sequences so exciting and visceral.

"Interview with action director Lau Kar Wing." Kar Wing was the kung fu director on the movie and speaks about how he approached the many fight scenes, including the challenge of matching the actor with their stunt double seamlessly.

"Interview with film critic/scholars David Chute and Andy Klein." Chute gives the film a historical context in terms of American cinema including its shocking level of violence at the time. They point out that the soundtrack was a pastiche of music ripped off of other film and that this would often hamper its distribution because of rights issues.

Also included are two trailers and alternate opening sequence that features very crude opening credits.

Finally, there is a "Stills Gallery" with poster and promotional photographs.

Rocky IV meant (as no other sequel a symbol of power in the huge geopolitical staggering U.R.S.S. The metaphor is so obvious that hardly may be better described. This time Rocky has to make an act of justice when his friend Apollo Creed dies in combat against Ivan Drago, the new Soviet techno machine, a sort of Caucasian Terminator; Apollo was in fact his past rival in Rocky II, helped professional and spiritually to win that infernal combat in the third sequel.

In this opportunity the chances are against him, Drago is a merciless and menacing fighter, who embodies the spirit of a nation, historically adverse to the Western hemisphere.

Sylvester Stallone didn't waste this historical opportunity to carve in relief two different ways of thinking, living and fighting.

Note that my top two are the ones in which Rocky lost the fight, but won something bigger. Those films were not just good boxing movies, but good movies, period.
Rocky IV is not exacly horrible, but it's certainly not good. Some of it is downright stupid; what idiot writer put in the robot that has artificial intelligence? (Rocky: "I'll get the call inside." Robot: "You can get it right here!"). The James Brown extravaganza, with Apollo dancing in a really, really silly outfit, was just plain weird. Then there's the fact that Drago's 1400 psi punch killed Apollo -- but later he doubled the power to 2800 psi, and despite jackhammering Rocky with that superhuman power over and over and over, Rocky just kept walking into more punches. And the worst part of all was Rocky's "can't we all just get along" speech to the Russian crowd, which switched its allegiance from Drago to Rocky because...because... well, I don't know why they cheered wildly for the guy who beat their national idol. Because the script called for it, I guess.
In the end, I think this movie is a classic "guilty pleasure". It's fun to watch the Rocky/Drago training montage (which could also be viewed as a metaphor for human will triumphing over machine perfection), and it's also fun to get a little Cold War nostalgia, so to speak, with the American ordinary guy loner beating the product of Soviet technology. Fun to watch? Yeah. Great movie? No.

Totally Awesome Cold War Propaganda!.......2007-05-08

To say that Rocky IV is propaganda is a bold understatement. From the opening bell of Rocky IV we are fed repeated anti-soviet and pro-US messages. The obvious arrogance, rampant drug use and lack of freedoms the Russians display here are not antagonistic as much as they are downright degrading and completely inaccurate. Every Soviet character acts as if they are a pathetically corrupt villain, that is until they are shown the path of the righteous man by our hero Rocky Balboa both in and out of the ring in a shameless speech that shows us what this film is really about. The Russian people find their liberation in their love for the American underdog Rocky. Rocky III had a subtle message of money spoiling good ol' Rock into losing his title and regaining it when he found the fire that existed in being a real underdog (a poor New Yorker who had nothing but his ability to fight). Rock IV gives us a message that is the antithesis of this and gives blind justification for hating our enemies for trivial and inaccurate reasons, in other words the legacy of Rocky took more than a few steps back.

In this, the third sequel to the original classic about a kid from south Philly with a [...] education who gets a shot at the champion Appollo Creed. By now in the series, Rock has been champion and is friends now with Apollo and when Ivan Drago (a giant Russian boxer played by Dolph Lundgren) comes along, Apollo comes out of retirement to show this commie who is boss. Drago beats him to death in the ring and Rocky now knows what he needs to do. Stop commies! I mean, avenge his friend's death.

Its amusing to say the least as now the U.S.S.R. is no more and the damages of misled messages are inconsequential as the only people who could be swayed by such nonsense have already been swayed by our culture. It's vexing indeed but Rocky IV wins me over because I laugh every time it's on television. That is no reason to call it a good movie though. It so shamelessly sets the stage for the ultimate in melodrama and underdog cliches that only a child would find this believable. It is pornographic propaganda really, I put it right in there with Reefer Madness.

As a character, Rocky does represent something of America in all of his films (though I haven't seen the fifth one entirely). He is the quintessential underdog; he is a simple man that made his way through life by being a good person and doing what he knew how to do for his family. That feels like America for many of us. On the other hand he represents us as well in a different light in Rocky IV; he is the shameless symbol that represents what blind nationalism and unregulated globalization can bring without justifying it's reason, by the film's end the Russians are as blindly proud as the American's who possess unconditional love for their ever-serving government. It doesn't represent the left or the right but simply put, it represents those who can't learn because they think they already know. It represents the ignorant and just plain stupid and who could be their hero, or as Mr. T. once said, their paper champion. There are means and ends in life and conflict is the means to serve what end? Rocky IV promotes the kind of thought that is too arrogant to bother answering such a question.

But you know something? It's so shameless, unintentional, and fun that I don't give a damn and I begin chanting "Rocky" (or was it "Bocky") right along side those newly allied ex-communists every single time I see Rocky IV. Capitalism rocks comrade!

I really liked the first part of this movie, but everything after he starts training for the fight I could do without. The bland training in Russia in all that snow, and the fight itself weren't that great to me. Then he spews some sort of political message that ends up sounding retarded. Huge Rocky fan, but this is not one of my favs. It gets 3 starts because it has heart, great production quality and I could watch Rocky grocery shopping and be happy, he's just that good of a character.

More Punches Than Any Boxing Movie in History.......2007-05-07

Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky III" (1982) goes the distance as a pop-culture time capsule -- featuring Mr. T, Hulk Hogan and Survivor's smash hit "Eye of the Tiger." The film's slickness becomes its salvation, with an incredibly high punching rate during the climactic bout. Fast-moving escapism and the best Stallone-directed sequel apart from "Rocky Balboa."

This film bring back good memories of Mr. T and Holk Hogan! A must ahve to complete the Rockey series. Can't wait unitl the new movie come out on DVD.

ROCKY III: Holds Up Well.......2007-02-18

Whenever any motion picture does well at the boxoffice, there is likely to be a sequel. In the case of ROCKY, the continuing saga of the never say die fighter resonated on many levels with the audience. In the original and the sequel, Sylvester Stallone was the dramatic center around which revolved a number of able suppporting actors, all of whom bounced off him at all the right moments. By the time ROCKY III appeared, Adrian (Talia Shire), Mickey (Burgess Meredith), and Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) had already thoroughly esconced themselved in the screen mythos of those who served to humanize a figure that was so like us that we tended to overlook the severity of his ring beatings to see how he could change to meet changing times and changing opponents.

At the conclusion of ROCKY II, Rocky had done the near impossible; he had regained the title from the supremely talented Apollo Creed. It seemed almost natural that given his age of 34, that it would be wise for him to retire with his wits and eyesight intact. In fact, with the opening reel of ROCKY III, this is how the film seems headed. But given the first two, the audience does not mind being led down a false path. This path includes a humorous boxing-wrestling match with Thunderlips (Hulk Hogan). Those who denigrate the entire series for its mindless body bashing tend to overlook this match as a needed interlude that gets the plot back on track. In steps Clubber Lang (Mr. T), a brute of a basher whose entire existence seems geared more toward humiliating Rocky Balboa than in gaining his title. Their first encounter provides some revelatory aspects of both fighters. Lang is a pre-Mike Tyson thug who can elevate himself only by lowering others. His vicious verbal bile and sexual innuendo towards Adrian serve to highlight a man who can not adjust to overcome a new environment. His thuggishness serves as a dramatic counterpoint towards Rocky who can adjust but needs to admit the reality of inner personal demons. There is the beach scene in which Rocky and Adrian confront the ugly truth that the fear that he has successfully sublimated in the past, he must now push to the forefront. Apollo Creed soon picks up the job from Adrian of reclaiming Rocky's soul. The film suffers somewhat during the obligatory scenes of male bonding which re-establishes Rocky's moral center, yet the catchy Eye of the Tiger music helps the audience speed forward such maudlin scenes, which set up the rematch. Here the focus is more on Lang than on Balboa. Clubber Lang tries the same tactics that worked so well in their first fight. As these strategies begin to blow up in his face, the audience can see that the transformation of Rocky from one who has refused to see the light to one who has is not duplicated by the more physically imposing but less adaptable Clubber Lang. The ending is a predictable yet still enjoyable finale which carries a subtext that might and right do not always add up to victory. Sometimes, one must first confront and overcome the most vicious opponent of all, one's own self. ROCKY III says this better than nearly any other movie.

Rocky III starring Sylvester Stallone

Since I was a kid, I love to watch action movies.

I often go to watch action movies - even though they may be deemed 'no-brainers' - with only two objectives in mind. One, to be entertained, & two, to learn something useful.

Sylvester Stallone is one of my favourite action movie stars, despite the fact that he has drooping eyes, a crooked mouth & talks funny. I have watched many of his action movies, which included Rocky I to III, Rambo I (First Blood) to III, Judge Dredd, The Specialist, Demolition Man, Cliffhanger, Tango & Cash, Cobra & Nighthawks.

I would like to single out one of his action movies, Rocky III, which I thought shares many valuable learning points in terms of life (survival) skills.

The focus of the entire movie centres on his reluctant return (again as Rocky Balboa) to the ring after an earlier brutal knock-out & devastating defeat by Clubber Lang (played by Mr T), with the encouragement of Apollo Creed (played again by Carl Weathers). Rocky struggled through his fears & anguish as he kept playing the vivid images of past defeat in his mind.

On the other hand, Apollo kept drumming into Rocky's thick skulls about the urgent need to regain his fighting spirit.

It was very interesting to watch both of them & also to listen to their witty dialogue, as Rocky struggled to attain his former killer instinct, the eye of the tiger, while undergoing intensive re-training. Flashbacks of his failed encounter with Clubber Lang constanly kept Rocky awake at night. It was quite fun to watch Mr T in his meanest role as a wrecking machine in the ring.

In one early training scene, Rocky was really exhausted & he wanted to stop: "Let's do it tomorrow." Apollo screamed: "There's no tomorrow!"

The scene at the beach & the subsequent dialogue between Rocky & his wife, Adrian (played by Talia Shire), was really touching & motivating.
A very concerned Adrian asked one pertinent question: "Why did you come here?".

Rocky began to reveal his inner fears & lingering doubts through his conversation with Adrian.

The final revelation actually came from Rocky as he yelled: "Nothing is real if you don't believe in who you are!"

A lot of the times in our lives when we encounter stumbling blocks or setbacks in our path to seek out our fondest dreams, we often begin to lose steam & doubt ourselves. This often happen to kids & teens when they get an F in a test or may be just flunk school. Like Rocky, we keep playing the images of self-defeat in our minds & begin to lose the original focus & intended purpose at the beginning of the journey.

The interview dialogue between Clubber Lang & the reporter was also witty but meaningful. When asked for his strategy to counter Rocky's comeback to the ring, his remarks were "Don't need any!"

When asked again by the reporter for his prediction, he retorted: "Pain!"

At the ring just before the fight, Clubber Lang said menacingly to Rocky: "I'm going to bust you up!" Rocky's immediate response: "Go for it!"

Putting these dialogues into a life-skill perspective, I am sure readers will concur with my following analyses:

- If we don't have a strategy in life, pain is definitely what we will get.
- The best way to deal with fear is to fight it! FEAR is just a FALSE EVENT APPEARING REAL!
- Alway believe in ourself & in our ability to perform & succeed in the things we are working on. Believing that we can make it happen is an important step toward creating a desired future. Napoleon Hill, author of the 'Law of Success', rightly said that, it takes a person half their lives to discover that life is a do-it-yourself project.
- In life, everything is possible; it's just a question of strategy!

If you have not yet watched Rocky III, I strongly suggest you watch it quickly & carefully. You will learn hell a lot from this movie!

All Mums & Dads out there, I strongly urge both of you to go & watch this movie with your kids & teens!

Southern Hospitality.......2007-04-30

Blood Feast may be Lewis' most famous film and the one that he'll always be remembered by, but 2000 Maniacs is seen as probably his best film by many fans. The budget's higher(just a bit), the acting is better(but just a bit), and the story is more imaginative(quite a bit). Though it's a gore film, I'd have to say that Blood feast was actually gorier than this one. But 2000 Maniacs(due to the budget it looks more like 20 maniacs) manages to be entertaining coz it actually is interesting and funny. Blood Feast only had the gore going for it(as well as a few laughs), coz you really can't say it was terribly interesting as far as story goes. But any way you slice it, both 2000 Maniacs and Blood feast are required viewing for the cult/exploitation/horror film fan, as well as any film historian for that matter.

Two Thousand Maniacs! (Herschell Gordon Lewis, 1964)

I think I may be the last fan of gore movies on earth to see Herschell Gordon Lewis' infamous Two Thousand Maniacs!, an exploitation-flick take on Brigadoon whose influence on the horror film genre cannot be overstated. In other words, everything there is to say about this hugely amusing little flick has already been said, and probably better than I would say it. This flick, right here, is the genesis of the "inventive ways to kill people" movie; in other words; it's pretty hard to think of more than one or two American horror flicks a year since The Abominable Dr. Phibes that aren't influenced by this movie, as outright bad as it is.

And yes, it is bad. The special effects have the cheesiness for which Lewis is known. The acting plumbs depths of "hideous" that even exploitation films rarely explore. The script is threadbare in its best moments, and unintentionally hilarious throughout. Is Two Thousand Maniacs! bad? You'll have more suspense waiting for an answer if you ask the kid behind the counter at Taco Bell what a beef and bean burrito is made of. And yet, it's driven by such earnestness and played so straight that it transcends bad; it's got the kind of cornball appeal that lends rewatchability, though I grant you that you'll get much more of a kick out of it the second (and third and fourth and...) time around if you're at a party and doing some serious drinking. **

What can one say about this film?

It is easily one of, if not the BEST Herschell Gordon Lewis films.

The plot is intriguing, the acting decent (exception for Connie Mason), the gore pretty good (Especially the barrel roll sequence. Its very chilling)

This movie is a hoot, and as others have said, the commentary track is very VERY interesting as well.

Worth seeing... Once........2005-08-16

'Two Thousand Maniacs' is apparently the second gore flim ever made. Technically speaking, it's superior to Lewis's 'Blood Feast' in pretty much every way, but I think I like that film more than this one. Suffice to say, you can be a lot better than 'Blood Feast' and still really not be very good, which this film proves amply. The direction is less flat, the acting is somewhat more natural, or intentionally over the top, rather than by accident, as it appeared to be in 'Blood Feast'. Still, this movie is quite a bit longer than 'Blood Feast', which is liable to hurt you, and the intentional humor and wackiness of this film can't match the unintentional humor and wackiness of that movie. Also, it's quite a bit less gory, though it's still severely out there by the standards of the time. Occasionally, the film does manage to generate a somewhat disturbing atmosphere, via the juxtaposition of the violence and the jovial behavior of the southern town. Of course, some people think the light-hearted behavior of the townsfolk actually lessens the impact, so you never know.

Most people seem to think that 'Two Thousand Maniacs!' stands out from Lewis's other films because it actually has something going for it other than the violence, i.e. the nutty southern townfolk. I'll admit it, there over the top antics are kinda amusing for a while, but it starts to were thin well before the film is over. (Much like how the terrible acting/dialogue in 'Blood Feast' starts to lose interest pretty quickly, though I found that stuff more amusing to begin with) Southerner's may not be too fond of how they're portrayed here, but it's so over the top that it really shouldn't be taken personally. The film also earns some points for it's somewhat novel premise. (For those who don't know, it's about a group of northerner's who are tormented and assailed by the ghosts of a southern town that was massacred in the Civil War.) Also, the countrified soundtrack is kinda fun, particularly the theme song.

Overall, this film certainly isn't great, or even good, but it's sufficiently amusing, and is definitely worth a look for serious horror fans.

2K MANIACS is a blessedly twisted ghost story with enough goofy gore and bad acting to satisfy any / all fans of cinematic idiocy. Herschel Gordon Lewis' opus of hicktown vengeance is a marvel considering it's 1964 release date! Without the bloodletting, TWO THOUSAND MANIACS would be fairly dull. With the scenes of communal sadism however, it's like watching a bizarre cross between THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, HEE HAW, and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE! Never before (or since) have so many hillbillies gathered together in order to mutilate and kill unwary visitors from north of the Mason / Dixon line! Lewis has created a ghoulish feast of horror, a cautionary tale for any who would dare travel to the southern hinterlands! Beware! Rufe and Lester just might be waiting, putting up their fake detour sign, and hoping a car full of damn yankees will happen by! Stay away from Pleasant Valley! Drive right on past and avoid it's hellish centennial celebration! Don't end up like the poor saps who were cut, chopped, hacked, drawn and quartered, crushed, poked, and otherwise eviscerated! You have been warned...

The third installment in the Rocky saga is the last one to matter, and in this case only marginally. Time for another rematch, mixed in with some family matters involving Rocky's brother-in-law Paulie (Burt Young), who's feeling neglected amid all the hoopla. Not bad as sequels go, boosted by Mr. T.'s taunting presence and yet another rousing finale. Three fights in one.......2007-01-24

Four years after the second movie was released. This third thrilling installment in rocky series was released. A word of warning this movie has heavy sport viollence in it like the otters and occasionally use of profanity this movie should be fine for those age ten and up. This was the first rocky movie to have more than one main fight this one has three. The firs fight is between rocky and Thunderlips played by the now famous Hulk kogan. In rockey three it has been three years since rocky won the heavy wait title form Appolo Creed. Rocky is living the rich life. Until rocky face of against Cluber Lang played buy the now famous well known tough guy the fabelous Mr. T. Rocky fight Chang but do to his ill preparing is defeated and knocked out in the second round. If that wasn't worst enough. Rocky loyal trainer Mickey time runs out. Mickey's heart gives on him and he dies shortly after the fight. However this is not the last time mickey appears in the Rocky saga he repears briefly in Rocky V for a couple of minutes in a shoot flash back scene that takes place before Rockey's second fight with Appolo. Devesated at losing of his beloved trainer and loosing title of heavywait champion Rocky lose faith in himself. How could rocky go on. Then something happens that fans of the first two movies would never expect. Rock gets help and advice from the last person you would expect. Rocky is retrained by the once famous person that started the whole saga back in rocky one. The all might all power rival, ex heavy wait champion the might Appolo Creed! Can Creed restore distress rocky to his former self in time to face Clubber Lang forthe rematch of the decade. Find out if rocky will once again obtain the eye of the tiger.

Totally Worthy Sequel.......2006-12-17

I've only seen the first 3 Rocky movies so far, but I would have to say out of all three this one was the most entertaining to me. More than any other of the films, this one is all about ups and downs. That's maybe what makes it so great, by the time it's over, you feel drained and your thinking, "wow, they're still great!"

Apollo Saves This 3rd Chapter. .......2006-04-29

While we can argue that "Rocky 2" was just as good if not better than Part 1, "Rocky 3" is kind of an uneven chapter. In the first half, it would appear that the saga is wearing thin and even turning somewhat silly. The obnoxious Paul was starting to show some redeeming aspects in Part 2, but the start of Part 3 shows him regressing back to his truly annoying self we knew in Part 1. Moving on, Rocky is trying to settle down into his life. In the early part of the film, Rocky has a charity fight with Hulk Hogan. After his dramatic 2nd confrontation with Apollo Creed, this seems silly. Moving on, the obnoxious Clubber Lang wants Rocky's title. At the half way point, Clubber Lang wins Rocky's title. (Though Rocky had a really valid excuse. His manager Mickey became suddenly and dangerously ill.) Clubber Lang is by far the most annoying opponent Rocky has ever faced. Clubber is obnoxious to the point where we can't wait for him to get his comeuppance. In Parts 1 and 2, we were probably cheering for Rocky, but we still saw Apollo Creed as a human being. To be sure, Apollo was not overly nice in Part 2, but he was MUCH MORE to be excused. Not only had Apollo gotten a lot of hate mail that he didn't deserve, but his children were being taunted at school. The 1st half of this 3rd chapter is a major step down from Chapters 1 or 2. But now the good points. The 2nd half saves this 3rd chapter. Determined to help Rocky win his title back from the obnoxious loud mouth, Rocky's former foe Apollo Creed becomes his friend, trainer, and inspiration. Through Apollo, we see that we can get our former abilities back if we are willing to push ourselves. Apollo is arguably the most complex character in the whole saga. In Part 1, he opposes the hero we are cheering for, but we have no real reason to dislike him; in part 2, he is more of a villain, but the hate mail he was getting would probably have driven a reasonable person to anger and frustration; so we can at least understand his actions; in part 3, he shows his really good side. Clubber Lang remains repulsive throughtout the movie. And without giving the story away, his comeuppance is not only deserved, but inevitable. The end between Apollo and Rocky was probably the best way to end this. After all Apollo did for Rocky in this 3rd chapter, we can see that he is still harboring a slight grudge, but nothing that will threaten their new friendship.

Rocky III is a good sequel.......2005-12-24

Following the success of Rocky, Sylvester Stallone stalled at the box office. He failed to ignite the screen and the audience with another big bang. The result was a series of Rocky films beginning with the underrated Rocky II in 1979, and Rocky III in 1982.

If you haven't seen Rocky II yet, then there's no need for you to be reading this review. Of course, Rocky wins at the end of II turning Rocky into the champion of the world. Rocky III shows Rocky living the life of a made man, a rich celebrity on the cover of magazines, enjoying everything he didn't have when he was in Philly including a charity event where he fights Thunderlips, played by Hulk Hogan (Rocky III turned Hogan into the most famous WWF wrestler of all time).

Enter Clubber Lang, played marvelously by Mr. T, an underdog fighter who, like Rocky in the original film, wants a shot at the title. After a public confrontation and Lang humiliating Adrian, an angry Rocky accepts the challenge.

The problem that is about to face Rocky is the sudden death of Mickey during a spat between Lang and Rocky before the fight. Rocky loses. He also loses hope and the courage to step back into the ring. Not until a foe from the past, Apollo Creed, enters Rocky's life again, only this time not as an enemy but as a friend. It's the friendship between Rocky and Apollo that is the highlight of the movie and what makes it worthwhile. Apollo teaches Rocky skills he never had. He takes him back to the streets where Apollo started off and where Rocky is revered as a champ.

I can go on and on with the story. So I will stop right here. Rocky III ends up being a good sequel, way better than Rocky IV, and the one thing that makes it great is Apollo Creed, who in my opinion is the lead character of Rocky III.

The Rocky series did become stale after Rocky II, but the one sequel that stands as the best of the dreadfully commercial Rocky films is Rocky III.

A worthy sequel to a worthy sequel........2005-12-20

A solid and unique storyline!

Rocky has gone from a poor nobody to the VIP of America. His life is a polar opposite of what is shown in Rocky 1...

With his success, he becomes over- confident and spoiled. He is more literate, better looking and physically buffed. He trains with leisure, even making it a media sideshow.

His opponent, a crude, mean, "Mike Tyson" style knock- out artist trains like the Rocky in the original movie, with ambition and hunger. This brute "Clubber Lang" (BRILLIANTLY portrayed by Mr. T) doesn't want media attention or accolades... he wants the TITLE, period.

Mickey has a heart attack, Rocky gets knocked out, Mickey dies. The fantasy world of success that Rocky lived in comes tumbling down with shocking swiftness.

The man who had found his self-esteem in the original film has lost it once again. He feels responsible for Mickey's death. He's not only ashamed of himself, he seems to genuinely hate himself.

Unfortunately, the movie feels very RUSHED as Adriane guides Rocky back to his determination and pride, as Apollo trains him in the slums of LA, and as Rocky overwhelms Clubber with his new found "Apollo" skills... speedy jabs, artful dodges and ducking, and fancy footwork. Ultimately, however, it's Rocky's "old" ability to "take a punch" that allows him to wear out his powerhouse opponent. This Rocky is slim and fast, with his old "cast iron jaw."

Despite it's rushed second half, this film delivers big. And once again, the HUMOR in the first half of the film is brilliant... especially concerning the fun and painful charity bout with Hulk Hogan.

A very enjoyable movie!

Yes, Masterpiece is miss spelled on purpose, so no coments please. As for this junk, skip it and watch "Game Of Death", As bad as it is, its better than this crap!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a real Bruce Lee film. Some people said it was funny, but it is really just horrible. I couldn't even watch the whole thing. The extra cartoon "Casper" is probably the best part. If you want real Bruce Lee fighting action, you may have to spend more than $4.99.

Everyone is missing the point........2006-07-05

First off the movie is an obvious comedy that knows it is being funny. It IS a funny movie that is a piss take on all the fake Bruce Lee movies being done at the time. The violence is comic to start with. Scenes like the eyeballs are played for laughs. Making Lee's voice fem was an obvious joke too, as was his "Samurai" background. The black and white footage IS Bruce as a child actor. Redubbed to be satirically biographical it cuts between the old film and the 70s B Samurai movie in a direct parody of "The Real Bruce Lee". The skits are meant to be funny as are the would be attackers. There are some real martial arts in the film by excellent practitioners and the point of the whole movie is that you should be yourself. The message is use Bruce to inspire you but be your own self in martial arts and in acting. I liked this very much its fun cheese that doesn't take itself seriously.

This has to be one of those intentionally bad films. They mislead you by saying it's about Bruce Lee's career. Pretty much everything is fake, but they didn't really try to hide this fact. The setting is the 1979 World Karate Championships at Madison Square Garden where the successor to Bruce Lee is supposed to be determined as a result of media attention. Bruce Lee actually died several years before. Before you know it, they go to the halftime show that depicts Bruce's early days and his great grandfather, who was one of the best samurai swordfighters of the 19th century. The flashback of Bruce's great grandfather in color is most likely re-dubbed scenes from a fictional film set in ancient China,not the 19th century, where the martial artists have unrealistic abilities. The scenes depicting Bruce's early days in black and white have nothing to do with the karate lessons that the poorly dubbed dialogue is talking about, since the characters just sit around and do nothing the whole time. Anyway, everyone knows samurai are not from China or the 19th century. Adolf Caesar mentions Bruce Lee as the king of kung fu in the beginning, but in the flashbacks and other parts, they say that Bruce does karate, which is also from Japan and not China. A karate tournament that happens every year hardly seems to be appropriate in determining the succesor to Bruce's title, especially since the championship fight that lasts only two rounds features two fighters who are probably no better than the couch potatoes in your local martial arts class. Perhaps even more insulting than a karate match resembling a boxing match determining the king of kung fu title is that the suggestion that the winner might inherit Bruce Lee's supposed curse, the touch of death. At least the main characters had the decency to conclude that the event could not live up to Bruce Lee's legacy.
The convesations with Bruce Lee are two or more scenes of a person alternated between each other, with the words edited and entirely different backgrounds. When Bruce is supposed to be showing Aaron Banks his new move, they simply cut to Aaron Bank's face and play some fake karate noise in the background. The two of them don't even wear the same clothes throughout the whole conversation. The fight scenes where Ron Van Clief and Bill Louie beat up sex crazy street gangs teaming up on women joggers in parks are entertaining, but not very impressive. The main events are skinny guys in pajamas sparring with each other, rather than the promised highlights from Bruce Lee's career. The demonstrators need protective gear for kicks, but if Bill Louie tosses someone's eyes to the crowd, it's just part of the show. Aaron Banks demonstration of the touch of death or vibrating palm turns out to be nothing more than breaking a board with his fist. Fred Williamson is supposed to be starring with Bruce Lee, which of course is no longer possible, but he doesn't even do any fighting in this film. And his "girlfriend", who looks like she got a face transplant and had all the color bleached from her skin, begs him to satisfy her. Why would Fred be sleeping with someone he doesn't want to have sex with? He gets mistaken for Harry Belafonte, just like how every Chinese film ever made happens to be about Bruce Lee in this movie. In some versions, there is a Casper the Ghost cartoon in the special features, which is apparently just for the sake of having special features. Even though it's a cheap film, there's no excuse for the Chinese samurai and other blatant inaccuracies. After the tournament is over, Adolph Caesar says it's good that Bruce can no longer be beaten and asks "why should we try to topple his legacy", which is exactly what this film is doing.

Unlike me, you have the help of these hilarious reviews to spell it out for you: this is a very uproarious rip-off of Bruce Lee. It's kinda like Shaft and Tiger Lily sitting down to dinner at the Cleaver's. It's so shockingly bad, it's good. I paid a buck for a copy. It was a good price.
