5 out of 5 stars Apocalypse.......2007-04-22

I absolutely love this movie and have watched it several times. It starts out with a war in Israel and is Biblically based. This is an excellent witnessing tool to use when talking about Christ's love for us.

1 out of 5 stars Brutally awful.......2007-03-27

I personally believe in a post-trib rapture, but I respect other peoples interpretations too, and hope they respect mine.

I think films like Six: The Mark Unleashed, The Left Behind Trilogy and Thief in the Night are pretty well made given the budgets (Thief in the Night 2 has a particularly creepy undercurrent) and at least add value to the pre-trib rapture view.

This film, however, is awful. Everything about it is awful.

Christians apparently all go commando or their underwear gets raptured too. It's all in the attention to detail, guys...

4 out of 5 stars Low-Budget But Worth Watching.......2007-03-23

If you don't get bogged down in such little details as the Israeli general being a latino actor trying to do an Israeli accent (is there such a thing?), or the Jordanian general looking a lot more "white" or European than the Israeli general, or the really obvious Canadian accents coming from the mouths of most of the other actors (Canadians should never be allowed to play anything but Canadians or, if they do, they should never be allowed to speak - like the electric company manager's son in Category 6), this movie is worth watching.

Since the 1970s, various groups have tried to make movies depicting what they believe will transpire during the seven years often referred to among evangelical Christians as the tribulation period - that period being preceeded by an event often called "the rapture" (Titus 2:13 refers to it as "the blessed hope"), wherein Jesus Christ removes His Church from the world. Apocalypse doesn't do a bad job of such a depiction, though I do disagree with the order of events (for example, I'm among the many evangelicals who believe the "battle of Armageddon" will take place at the end of the tribulation, not the beginning). Having an American Secretary of State attributing the disappearance of all the nuclear weapons, the bullets flying in the air, etc. to God (by which he meant this Franco Maccaluso guy who was head of the European Union); having an admiral named Jim Kirk; and having this Franco Maccaluso guy come out on worldwide television and declaring himself to be the god of our fathers (and having the reporters who were surrounding him nodding their heads in agreement) detracted from the credibility of the film. And, again, all those obviously Canadian accents!!!!!!

There are better quality films but this one does have reporters examining the biblical evidence surrounding these momentous events - oh, wait a minute, maybe that also detracts from the film's credibility; after all, reporters today don't actually investigate anything, they just put their political spin (liberal or conservative) on events and try to make people think what they're reporting is the truth.

The soundtrack - Amazon really does need to find copies of the CD soundtrack - was great, though one of the songs on the soundtrack wasn't in the movie (though I think it should have been).

1 out of 5 stars It's awful!.......2007-01-18

It is one of the most awful film I had ever watched. Poor acting and poor script would be a good summary of the movie. The preaching is heavy-handed and causes one to cringe in embarassment for the actor/actress. It is a movie for the converted. It does not entertain; it does not advance human knowledge or understanding; it does not spread the message of tolerance or of love. It does not even pretend to empathise or accept the diversity of religious beliefs on our planet earth. It just full of righteous posturing.

Good performance, short set, lame crowd... Should have recorded a headlining set on NY or NJ. The extra features kind of make up for it but it could be better. Good thing it was only $10.

AFTER HEARING CONFESSIONS AND WATCHING THIS DVD I'M NOT INTO ILL NINO THAT MUCH ANYMORE.I GUESS AFTER MARC RIZZO LEFT THE BAND ALL THE ENERGY LEFT TO.I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE SEEN HIM PLAYING GUITAR DURING THE LIVE SHOW.I GIVE TWO STARS JUST BECAUSE IT'S ILL NINO.I HOPE THEIR NEW ABLUM BRINGS BACK THE FURY THIS BAND ONCE HAD

4 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2005-02-10

I can agree with the review below, fans wre not very good, set list is great, and Dave is he best drummer i've heard, that coming form a experienced drummer. A must have for every Ill Nino and metal fan.

4 out of 5 stars awesome performance pathetic crowd.......2004-12-21

the footage and performace on this dvd was mind blowing but they really should have filmed in another city because philly was painfully pathetic.

set list:

2. what comes around
3. i am loco
4. cleansing
5. this time's for real
6. unframed
7. how can i live
8. unreal
9. liar

extras are very good. because ill nino isn't very mainstream it lets the viewer finally get a feel of who ill nino is. interviews and meet the band type of footage. dvd also includes all their current music videos.

except for the mostly dead crowd, dvd is a good buy for ill nino fans.

    Description

On the edge of the Mojave desert, a gas-stop motel, the Easy Rest Inn, is owned and operated by the Glance brothers, Ray (Nightbreed's Craig Sheffer) and Steven (Stand by Me's Bradly Gregg). Eight years ago, their parents were killed by robbers. Since then, they've practiced their own brand of revenge: they murder innocent motel guests and bury them behind the inn. This insular world is thrown into disarray by the arrival of bickering couple Marvin (Blue Velvet's Dennis Hopper) and Sandra (The Practice's Lara Flynn Boyle), who are stranded until their Cadillac is repaired. Both brothers take an interest in the beautiful Sandra and decide to get rid of her significant other... with an impending storm about to isolate them from the rest of the world. Revenge, lust and madness reign supreme as an ordinary rest stop is transformed into the Eye of the Storm.

2 out of 5 stars in the dead calm of the desert, a storm is raging.......2001-08-28

Director Yuri Zeltser's thriller begins well, with an opening sequence of the robbery of a desert motel, presented with little use of music, which creates tension. And the screenplay he cowrote with Michael Stewart takes an unexpected turn midway, the treatment borrowing from Psycho, with Lara Flynn Boyle placed in a world as gothic as the one Janet Leigh stumbled into. However the climax loses us, degenerating into a standard woman in peril, set against sibling rivalry, and using the hackneyed multiple resurrection device. As the sons of the Antelope Valley Easy Rest-Inn whose parents are killed in the 10 years ago beginning, Craig Sheffer and Bradley Gregg present two people as isolated from the world as Norman Bates was. Gregg was blinded in the robbery, and Sheffer is left to be the parent, though Sheffer's long hair indicates the arrested development extends to both brothers. The metaphorical storm comes via Boyle and her husband Dennis Hopper in manic mode, half funny and half cruel. The fact that Boyle and Hopper don't match up with the robbery killers (the female being Ally Walker) tells us that something is amiss, as is Boyle posed as Marilyn Monroe and a scene where Gregg attacks her in the motel's swimming pool (a nice touch for a rundown desert motel) out of rabid puberty urges. The screenplay has the occasional amusing line - Boyle says to Gregg "Stop checking me out and check me in", Sheffer to Gregg "Wake up and smell the rabbit dung", and Hopper's "We're God's grass. We burn and he gets high". I also like how the "cool" sunglasses Sheffer wears 10 years ago become the blind glasses Gregg wears 10 years later. Zeltner cuts from Hopper kissing Boyle's thigh to Sheffer hugging Gregg, and cuts from Gregg's hand in a jewellery box to Boyle's hand in hers, from which she pulls out a gun. I was sorry to see how the shift in plot meant we lose Hopper, and I could have done without Sheffer's long hair loose as a lion's mane in the climactic storm. However Sheffer handles the aging of his character well, and I liked his imitation of pain upon seeing someone stabbed in the stomach.

The second (2004) season of Gravion mixes several genres: sci-fi, mecha, comedy, adventure, and jiggle. Under the leadership of dashing Klein Sandman, the elite G-Knights continue their battles against the alien Zeravire. Eiji and Taro remain the only males in the squadron of nubile young women. Their individually piloted machines combine to form Heavy Metal God Gravion, a handsomely designed mecha in the Gundam tradition. The poorly staged battle sequences fail to showcase the gigantic robot, but it doesn't really matter: Gravion Zwei is more about fan service than military service. The girls range from mildly curvaceous Ena to Mizuki, who, like June, is bustin' out all over. Viewers see a lot of Eiji's bare buns in episode 3, suggesting that fan-service nudity is becoming more gender neutral. But Gravion Zwei is an inane throw-away of a series. (Rated TV MA: violence, nudity, risqué humor, alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

    Description

Sandman and his ragtag crew are back to save the Earth from the deadly Zeravire invasion, but they're not the only ones on duty this time! Enter the elite G-Soldier Squadron, the firstt unit in the government's attempt to mass-produce Gravion technology.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars STILL FIGHTING THE ZERAVIRE.......2006-07-20

When the first season of Gravion ended, basically none of the questions raised throughout the series had been answered. For example: Where is Eiji's sister? Are Toga and Leele even human? What past is Sandman hiding? Most importantly, what is the origin of the Zeravire and why are they attacking Earth? Is someone controlling them? Well, I have to say that in Volume 1 of Gravion Zwei, we might have taken half a baby step towards getting the answers to some of this, but it doesn't look like a sure thing. The back of the DVD trumpets "Effeminate Heroes! Giant Fighting Robots! Gravity-Defying Breasts!" which appears to be a desperate ploy by ADV Films to improve the sales of this show to the lowest denominator. It does have all those things, but its not the borderline porn that it's hyped to be. If anything it's more about comedy than the first season, and seeing the characters get on each other's nerves or just being in everyday situations like a company picnic or a hot springs trip is great. Yet, in the end, there's always an alarm triggered off by an encroaching Zeravire, and everybody gets into their mecha transforming overacting hand motioning alien butt kicking mode! (If the Zeravire are aliens) The Gravion crew is also getting some competition because the government is tired of being beholden to the mysterious Sandman and is planning to mass-produce its own Gravion-like mecha.

I actually thought Volume 1 of Zwei was more enjoyable than the previous season's installments. My favorite part of this anime was always the story before the token battle of the week at the end. Most of the episodes of this DVD deal with what leads up to the battle instead of focusing on the battle itself. The conflict between Eiji and Luna has gotten even funnier, and at times it seems as if they might be in love. Even Sandman seems to be enjoying himself this time around, letting the Gravion crew have a break at a hot springs resort. I know the whole giant robot with assembling vehicles has been done to death, but so what! The fun is in the path to the metamorphosis, not in the transformation itself.

    2 out of 5 stars hmph.......2005-11-27

another fans service diguised as something eits not. Basically like Ikki Tousen its basically a showcase of complicated and detahced plot, and busty hot chicks. at times i wish it was just about the chicks. The dialogue usual showcase of the flat and dull to the annoying and grating. While all the while laying out corny jokes thorughout.WEll i guess the creaters think they can mix fan service with big scaled nonsence action to keep us distcrated from the dead tired and over familair set up(even as a comdey it bores with old tired jokes).IT even says on the back of friggin cover in bold letters "fan service".

4 out of 5 stars Ok New Start.......2005-03-23

After the first season gravion begins to be very funny but you still want more of story from them. The best new addition to Gravion is that they seem to be creating a Villan. Something other than a gigantic alien that froms every shape learned in preschool, that appears every other day that never talks to say why It wants all humans to die because there isn't anyone or anything in it It's just a big kiling machine sent by who knows. The big thing about gravion is that It is a comedy and serious show all at the same time but sometimes a little bit more comedy It's very funny but It's nice to see them put some more concentration on the serious part of the show so fans can keep buying the dvd's for the excitement and suspence and not the big boob chicks. The only thing that they haven't done that I would like to see is Eiji and Luna create some kind of a relationship. In conclusion this dvd really isn't worth 36$ so do like i did and borrow it off a friend or watch it on the anime netwok that way you can't lose.

5 out of 5 stars PLEASE LOOK AT THE CASE BEFORE BUYING!!!!.......2005-03-12

The last reviewer complained about the big boobs. If you look at the back of the case, it clearly states that big boobs are in the show. It is your fault, but anyways, the review.

I was a fan of the first season. The first season was pretty much organized like this one. It is a guy named Sandman and his group of warriors protecting the Earth from a alien invasion of some aliens named the Zeravire. If he watched the whole DVD, he would have known that those fanservice episodes were setting up a plot. The fanservice in the third episode introduces some new characters. I wish people would stop giving bad reviews just because someone in the show has big boobs. As a matter of fact, the fourth episode on this DVD is very serious and there is no fanservice at all. If you like mecha anime, this anime is very recommended, but don't expect Gundam or Evangelion. It is more original than any current mecha show out. Don't sleep on this series.

ANIMATION - A+ COOL, COOL, COOL, CHARACTERS
PLOT - C+ WHILE THERE ISN'T MUCH ON THIS DVD, THE FOURTH EPISODE SETS UP FOR THE NEXT DVD
MUSIC - B+ I SAY THE MUSIC IS ALRIGHT, IT DOES FIT THE MOMENTS
OVERAll - A- I LOVE THIS SHOW, I LOVE THE CHARACTERS AND THE ACTION

    1 out of 5 stars what a terrible film........2007-01-31

God, this movie was terrible. I was dying to watch it because it was filmed in my hometown...Pittsgrove, NJ. But the film was just bad. The plot was stupid, the dialogue was stupid, which made it slightly entertaining, in a "this movie sucks so much it's funny" Lifetime-movie kind of way. No wonder it didn't put us on the map!

The fun is in the path to the metamorphosis, not in the transformation itself.

another fans service diguised as something eits not.

    1 out of 5 stars Horrifyingly Bad.......2006-07-14

I like erotic thrillers. I like Lisa Boyle. I watch new erotic thrillers / Lisa Boyle movies whenever my video store gets one in. But I had not heard of this movie until 8 years after its release, when it was joined as the B side to a Laura Gemser movie. Now I know why.
It's the kind of movie that is SO stupid it's painful to watch, yet it doesn't make up for that with nudity. One villain is super-rich, another is a private eye who is also a big-time pornographer, yet there they are knocking off witnesses and others by themselves. We have three people shot to death in one scene, but no one seems worried that the police might investigate that sort of thing.
Lisa Boyle plays a movie star who is going to get paid $8 million for her new film, yet she's being chased by the super-rich guy and the PI/pornographer with apparently no help or protection by the police (and no publicity, no paparazzi). She's also the big name in this production, having made a dozen good erotic thrillers, and as such she's not going to be showing much skin: one topless scene near the end of the movie. It's a happy scene, and she has a GORGEOUS top, but that's it.
In fact, there is almost no skin in the movie at all, which is bad even for a good erotic thriller, but devastating for a stinker like this. Three skin scenes, and at the end of two of them the girl gets killed (only Lisa Boyle's character survives sex.)
So, to sum up, stupid story, little skin, and the girls get killed: a downer.
P.S. Elaine O'Meara, who gets billed as "call girl" is hot, and her scene gets hot, but then the super-rich guy, who is killing off all the cast, gets angry at her.

4 out of 5 stars An impressive performance by the gorgeous Lisa Boyle.......2003-09-03

There are basically two kinds of erotic thrillers: those with Lisa Boyle and those without Lisa Boyle. Thankfully, Leaving Scars falls in the first of those two categories. Lisa plays Diane Carlson, an up and coming actress who somehow finds herself in the crossfire of some really bad dudes. A friend of hers slips her a floppy disk at a party, but Diane misplaces it in the aftermath of a night of drinking and snorting. That friend winds up dead, very dead, and the guys who killed her will stop at nothing to find and get that disk. Meanwhile, Diane has developed a strange friendship with an unemployed lawyer, and he tries to guide her through the process of keeping her safe while also keeping her name out of the papers. Unfortunately, one of her new friend's associates is smack dab in the middle of the whole criminal agenda, placing Diane at more risk than ever. The plot is a little convoluted, as always seems to be the case in these types of films, but basically several people get shot, everyone tries to take a little time out for some nookie, and eventually Diane must fight for her very life. I read one description of Leaving Scars that seemed to imply that Lisa Boyle's character kills a guy and likes it so much she goes on a rampage, but this does not describe this film in any way, shape, or form.

You are probably wondering just how much of Lisa Boyle does one see in Leaving Scars. In point of fact, this movie is not that dependent on its erotic qualities. There is really only one good Lisa Boyle love scene alongside two or three other little quick shots with other girls. One little Lisa Boyle nude scene in and of itself makes any movie worth watching in my opinion, but those who do not like a plot getting in the way of certain extracurricular activities may not want to take a chance on this one. Lisa is quite fetching throughout the entire movie, I might add, even making a terrible hangover look sexy, and I happen to think she is also quite a good actress. Her male co-star stumbles at times, especially in the final scene, but his faults can be easily ignored just by keeping one's eyes on Lisa at all times.

2 out of 5 stars Our little Lisa's all grown up........2002-04-12

Anyone with Cinemax and insomnia in 1996 remembers Lisa Boyle. She seemed to be on every single night in some bad "erotic thriller" or another. She could grind her hips better than anyone in the free world. Now, as she's getting older, it seems that the genre has past her by. Now, she's reduced to semi-respectable stuff. Echh.

Lisa plays Diane Carlson, a party girl with a bad coke habit, who gets involved with the mob through a case of mistaken identity (read: plot contrivance). Diane and new love-interest Mike now have to find a disk to save her life. This is all pretty high-concept stuff for a Lisa Boyle movie. It all plays like a scuzzy version of Miami Vice. (the gunshots are even badly dubbed)

Even taking the bad-acting, dubbed gunshots, and sound that seems to be recorded in someone's garage into account, this is a decent effort for such a tiny budget. Not much erotism if you're expecting a "typical" Lisa movie, though. There is one love scene, and that's where she seems the most comfortable. She certainly is good at that.

The real gem here is not the movie itself, but the commentary track by the producer and director where they at one point stop to have a bag of chips in between explaining what they were thinking at the time. The story about Lisa's firm butt cracking the plaster in the wall during one scene is pretty funny.

In the end, it's probably not erotic enough for fans of Lisa and not suspenseful enough for lovers of thrillers. Recommendation to avoid all but the commentary track.
