Customer Reviews:
An actual apex in film-making.......2007-07-02
The movies don't get much better than this, folks. John Woo (the real John Woo, not the body snatcher who made `Paycheck') brings us a true cinematic masterpiece that will leave you on the edge of your seat, salivating, and praying that the ride will never end.
"Give him one gun, and he's superman; give him two, and he's God," is one the characters description of Chow Yun-Fat's character Tequila; in typical John Woo fashion, he's invincible and brooding, with a tell-tale back story of sorrow and loss. Although devoid of martial arts, the slow-mo gun fights more than make up for it, and keep the movie running along a breakneck speed, a true paragon of action and intensity. Tequila is more Chow Yun-Fat than the haunted cop he's made out to be, but the rest of the characters are pretty well developed between the ample shoot outs, and there's even a neat bit about paper cranes. In fact, the paper cranes just about the most memorable scene in the movie, and are what really push the movie over the edge from just "Great" to "Unforgettably SpottieOttieDopilicious".
While Hard Boiled could have taken a wrong turn and been just a mediocre, shoot-`em-up action flick, it instead excelled, and completely redefined what "Stylistic" means to this genre: Just plain Cool.
The Bottom Line: With all the extras promised in this special edition, the Ultimate Edition of Hard Boiled is a must have for anyone not suffering from dementia.

Greatest action film of the past 15 years! By Ian Colvin, 12-year old filmmaker.......2007-05-26
John Woo's 1992 action film "Hard Boiled" is without a doubt the greatest shoot-em' up actioneer of the past 15 years. Finally Dragon Dynasty is releasing a 2-disc ultimate edition supposedly even containing a newly shot featurette where we see all the locations from the film now-a-days. It looks to be a great package that I will certainly (and gladly) display on my shelf.

Customer Reviews:
No classics, but not the worst movies ever made.......2006-10-18
BLOOD OF THE DRAGON-this is the only movie I thought was actually worth seeing on this DVD. The movie is made just for Jimmy Wang Yu and while it is extremely cheap, it still provides quite a bit of fun. Just like Master of the Flying Giullotine, the movie is given an odd touch with rock music in the credits and mixed throughout the film. While it didn't work like Guillotine, it does add to the movie. Basically Wang Yu plays a guy who has to help a kid give a list of names to a leader of rebels so that the government won't kill him. Lung Fei plays his usualy villian role very well but unfortunately he is only a small type of henchman. The whole movie is a build up to the final fight where a whole bunch of people come to take out Jimmy. It is spectacular and very well choreographed for 1973. There are also a couple of very funny parts where you can clearly see the spear not going through and just does not really close at all. I only saw it 4 times though and it did not detract from Jimmy Wang Yu being one of the baddest and coolest dudes ever on screen.
Picture quality is very bad but not unwatchable. I give it a 2.5/5 but lean more towards a 3 than a 2.
CHAMP VS. CHAMP-Dragon Lee and Godfrey Ho collaberate for an almost watchable kung fu movie. It is very odd that I actually made it all the way through this as Dragon On Fire was the only other Lee/Ho movie that I accomplished this. There is one really good fight, the second to last. I think it was Eagle Han but they manage to put together enough kicks and well timed moves to make it look pretty good. Dragon Lee also puts on a few decent kicks though like Van-Damme, he doesn't show any real power, he just sticks his leg up there. The final fight is just godawful as they chose a pretty large guy to fight Dragon. The villians all look as corny as normal but Dragon's master is somewhat likeable.
Picture quality is kind of bad but pretty watchable. I give this movie a surprising 1.5/5 and may have to lean towards a 2.
BLOODFIGHT-this is truly one of the most unwatchable movies ever. Yusuaki Kurata is in a tournamnet at the start at eh movie and throws some people around. We seriously don't get another action sequence form him until the final fight with Bolo that I almost turned off. But after spending 90 minutes watching it, I decided to stick out the last 5 minutes. Wow I was majorly dissapointed. If you are looking for a movie that does not explain ANYTHING, has Simon Yam as the main martial artist in the film, and has a white guy with a jean jacket and sunglasses as the main bad guy throughout the film, then you may want to check this out.
This movie by far has the best picture quality on the DVD. It starts off widescreen then turns to full 5 minutes in. Still pretty good quality, just not a watchable movie.
Great purchase for old school kung fu fans..........2005-06-17
If this was more expensive, my ratings would be much lower. But for $6 (here or at other places), this is a great purchase.
Blood of the Dragon is one of Wang Yu's better films. Not his best, but quite entertaining. He plays the Dragon, the title (I assume) comes from the fact he gets quite badly injured by the other main character - who is actually a good guy. The other character has a "Magic" sword - magic because it has a hidden dagger in it. His weapon is actually pretty cool and well used in the film. Wang Yu uses a spear, and this is one of the few movies where a spear actually looks cool.
Anyway, the film is quality, with a good amount of bloody violence and a large, long (about 20 minute) pretty well-choreographed final fight (ironically, the secondary lead character with the magic sword gets a better fight). This is also the oldest movie I've seen that has a "whip sword".
The film has its boring parts, but stick through em. On second and third viewings, skip them.
Bloodfight I didn't manage to watch. It's pretty bad. But it might be enjoyable if you like the style of film (modern day tournament). Bolo Yeung is indeed the villain in the film.
Champ Against Champ was the big surprise for me. Much better than I expected. Not terrible like many other Dragon Lee films, but quite enjoyable. It concerns a lead character who is with a group of people that get attacked. The main villain hits him with a poison dart, which should have killed him but instead just leaves him missing one leg below the knee (the dubbing here plays into the entertainment - his doctor, an elderly Chinese man, has a Kentucky accent). Not letting that slow down his quest for revenge, he fashions a solid metal leg to use as a weapon in kung fu, and he sets off.
The fights are surprisingly good, and fast paced. There's also occasional parts which are unintentionally funny, adding more to the movies score. Like early in the film, the lead's father (or teacher, I forget), an elderly guy, is watching everyone fight and is quite happy with how it is going, and then a leg comes in from the right side of the screen and hits him in the face HARD. Funny stuff.
There's also the metal leg. Sometimes when he does a sort of super kick (a bit like when Wang Yu's one-armed boxer does his finishing punches, but better) he sends people flying. One guy gets knocked into a tree, others just fly back, and some do this cool thing where they slide really far along the ground. Cool stuff.

not as good as the first installment.......2007-04-22
Ring of Fire 2 goes in a completely different direction than the first Ring of Fire, concentrating more on fight action than story. The best thing about ROF2 is many of the retruning cast members from the first movie, and this time, all fighting on the same side instead of against each other.
Here is an example of some of the martial arts cast list in this movie, enough of a reason to own ROF2:
Don Wilson (Bloodfist series)
Dale Jacoby (No Retreat No Surrender, Bloodmatch)
Vince Murdocco (Kickboxer 2, To Be The Best)
Ron Yuan (To Be The Best, White Tiger)
Eric Lee (Talons of the Eagle, Fists of Iron)
Ian Jacklin (Death Match, Kickboxer 3)
Evan Lurie (Tiger Claws 2, American Kickboxer 2)
The story is so simple, that the action pretty much is the story. Bad guy gang (led by the Ian Jacklin and Evan Lurie charcaters) take Johnny's girl (Maria Ford) to the underground, and the good doc and his 4 buddies from the first Ring of Fire movie, go in to find her. From there on out its one action scene after another, battling their way through. The only positive element of the story I found was the Sy Richardson character, ex army man, who explains his views and opinions of the world above while trying to survive in the world below.
Most of this movie is cheesy as heck, with underground garbage gangs and shadow warriors dressed in costumes from the carnival. The only entertaining fights are those in the Ring of Steel (yes Steel, no Fire in this movie) put on by the villains. Don Wilson gets to fight Evan Lurie in the ring, and then finally a several minute final showdown against Ian Jacklin above ground that is basically an average fight.
Lots of action is the theme of this movie and a good cast, but no story and the fights are just average. Unfortunately, the skills of some of these guys - Ron Yuan and Vince Murdocco for ex. - are not used to their fullest.
Fun... popcorn on the couch kind of movie........2005-10-11
Well... what can I say? It's fun... if you let it be fun. It's filled to the brim with well-choreographed fight scenes that are executed to perfection by professional martial artists... That seems to be the most true and innate value of this romp. The story seems to have been put in place primarily as a vehicle to get from one fight scene to another. Some moments of decent acting by the supporting cast will sneak up on you... as will some comedic moments provided by the comic relief. (The comic relief - physically - the smallest martial artist in the movie and naturally... portrayed in the film as the MOST girl-hungry!)
The score is fine but the film has a very fun soundtrack that winds up being featured on an underground radio station within the parameters of the story.. If you like this genre of movies you'll like this one as much as you would any other...
Too bad they didn't sell the soundtrack!
Too bad Don wasn't a real doctor 'cause then he could have.......2005-05-02
Too bad Don wasn't a real doctor like the one he plays in this "movie" 'cause then he could have pulled the cord on this braindead vegetable.
Basically a rip-off of "The Warriors" with the Don 'the dragon' running through 'underground' L.A. fighting various losers who apparently have nothing better to do than lay hiding in piles of trash, in homemade outfits, waiting to jump the first person who walks by.
Much like "TC 2000" no one likes put on cozy pajamas and watch "Alf" reruns while eating macaroni, while instead opting to fight all day. Too bad 'cause that Melmacian sock puppet delivered lines more believably than "the dragon" and his backup gang of NKOTB rejects. Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh...after all we are talking about a movie where a carphone is actually a housephone sitting oh so obviously in the driver's lap.
Kudos to the attempt at political commentary with the 'Nam vet Ernest confessing his loss of direction in life only to return near the climax to mercilessly blow away 3/4 of the un-armed (unless you count leather wrist guards and collars a la Mad Max) bad guys.
"I didn't learn much from the army but what I did learn I learnt well" says the misguided Ernest. Too bad I didn't take basic training, then I wouldn't have known to duck and cover from this bomb.
And the winner is..............2005-01-19
RING OF FIRE II: BLOOD AND STEEL is without question Don "The Dragon" Wilson's best film ever. Those disappointed by the fact that he only had one major fight in RING OF FIRE will find that he more than makes up for it here.
In fact, so does everyone else. While I was disappointed that Gary Daniels was not in BLOOD AND STEEL, most of the rest of the kickboxing cast from RING OF FIRE are back, and it is evident that everyone was determined to make a kung fu maovie so action-packed that it would be almost impossible to dislike.
And as far as I'm concerned, they have. Don particularly shines in the film. Never has he been faster, tougher, or more determined to kick ass. And everyone one of his martial art compadres (Eric Lee, Ron Yuan, Vince Murdocco, Dale Jacoby) get their oppurtunity in the spotlight as well, and they do not disappoint.
And to top it off, the film's head villian, Kalin, is played by non other than everyone's favorite kickboxing tough guy, Ian Jacklin. He and Don have a fantastic climactic duel that will blow you away.
If you hated every single other movie that Don "The Dragon" Wilson has been in, RING OF FIRE II: BLOOD AND STEEL is the one to see. If you loved all of his other movies, RING OF FIRE II: BLOOD AND STEEL puts them all to shame.
Just Leave Your I.Q. At The Door.......2004-11-25
Wow! "Ring of Fire 2" takes an entirely different route than the original. The first installment was a Romeo and Juliet type of romance set against a backdrop of a cross-culture martial arts fued. Don "The Dragon" Wilson was the romantic lead and left most of the fight scenes to his capable co-stars.
The sequel, on the other hand, is a non-stop action film. Don, reprising his role of Johnny, and his buddies go underground(literally!) in search of the gang leader who kidnapped his fiance(Maria Ford, reprising her role- but with a different hair color!).
The plot is totally contrived, but this is just such a likable knucklehead of a movie that it's hard not to like it. Don the Dragon gets plenty of fight scenes this time around. Wise move.
"Ring of Fire 2" is solid action entertainment. Just remember to leave your I.Q. at the door and you'll love it.

"You can't kill a man whose already dead.".......2004-10-28
Don "The Dragon" Wilson's OUT FOR BLOOD is a fantastic display of Don's martial arts skill's. With the exception of the BLOODFIST series and NIGHT HUNTER, all of which are fantastic the movie's Don has done that are produced by Roger Corman are fairly mediocre. On the other hand, the movies he's made with PM entertainment and Imperial Entertainment are excellent, and OUT FOR BLOOD ranks up there with the RING OF FIRE flicks and CYBER-TRACKER.
Don "The Dragon" Wilson plays John Deckker, a Los Angeles prosecutor who has declared a personal war on the drug trade, since his wife and son were both murdered by drug runners and Deckker was shot and left for dead. He survived, but with very fragmented memories of the event. All that he knows for sure is that they were drug dealers, but he's not gonna let that stop him. By night, he becomes "karateman" (sort of a modern day version of David Carradine's Kung Fu), and all the dealer's suddenly find themselves dropping like flies, because John Deckker is OUT FOR BLOOD!!!!!
I don't want to go into too much more detail, since unlike most Direct-to-video (or, in this day and age direct-to-DVD) films, OUT FOR BLOOD not only has excellent martial arts action, it also has great character's, great acting, a great story, and exceelent plot twists. So go grab OUT FOR BLOOD right now. You won't regret it.

old "skool" kung fu for real.......2006-05-12
This is truly one of Jimmy Wang's best performance using weaponery. Definately a classical ending to be remembered. I too was torn on a 3 or 4 star, it was the ending which really impressed me.
The last part is OK.........2005-10-21
The main gimmick is that the main character uses a silver spear; to stab, poke and slash with great aplomb.
Most of the grainy film is pretty boring and it has been directly transferred to DVD with no clean up, BUT there are some good fight scenes to be found here. Fast forward to the last 20 minutes of the film, lots of bloody action.

I was torn between a 3 and 4 star on this film (It is worth noting that I have the Platinum version rather than this version- so I will not speak of DVD quality). Ultimately the ending convinced me of the need for a 4 star review. The final 20 minutes are the sort of stand off you expect from a classic picture. Unfortunately, the build up could've used a bit of comic relief and/or more character development of the general. Well now I am getting technical for an otherwise entertaining movie. No one can strike a pose like Wang Yu! See more great selections at "Kung Fu for the Sole" Listmania.
A GOOD KUNG-FU MOVIE; 3.5 STARS.......2005-01-03
A MAN NAMED THE WHITE DRAGON MUST FIGHT TO SAVE HIS COUNTRY FROM TYRANNICAL RULE. GOOD FIGHTS BUT THIN STORY. IT'S A GOOD MARTIAL ARTS MOVIE OVERALL. YOU SHOULD ENJOY IT. THAT DUBBING IS HILLARIOUS, THOUGH.

Product Description
Of all the martial arts schools in Manchuria, The Ching-Bay school is the most famous. The master of the school, Chao Ching-Bah, is an expert in many different styles, however, his specialty is the "Plum-Flower Stick" style. The Japanese occupation forces have disrupted his classes and are harassing his students, as well as the local folk. Because of his resistance, the Japanese brutally murder Master Bah, close his school, and beat up his eldest son, Chao-Hoi. Master Bah's younger son Chao-Lui joins the Japanese forces to the disgrace and anguish of his remaining family. A mysterious masked stranger is causing trouble in the Japanese camps and in the surrounding villages. Chao-Lui is ordered by them to eliminate the trouble masker. He finds out that the masked man is really his brother Chao-Hoi. They join forces against the Japanese to drive them out of Manchuria, as the brothers become renowed Masters and patriots to the cause of freedom.

Jimmy Wang Yu.......2007-06-11
This is not the movie I thought it was. This movie is Blood of the Dragon, not Blood of the Dragon Peril. I bought this at my local used store and the Saturn DVD says it stars Godfrey Ho actors like Phillip Cheung and Marty Chui. I know Blood of the Dragon PERIL is probably bad, but I didn't want to see this Wang Yu movie that I already have 2 different versions of, including this crappy full screen version. Not a bad movie, but not the right one.
