this is one of the best movies i have seen in a long time and it is a must have for the entire family. a very moving film , and true story .i give this film a rating of five stars!!!!!!

kavik lacked self confidence and it showed in his conduct. Out of nesessity he overcame his fear and became a great dog.

As a dog lover I always enjoyed this movie on VHS, and now with a DVD I can see all the details and clarity of picture the old VHS formats sure lacked!

Contrary to the previous reviewer who claimed his DVD picture was full of "dirt" and more, I can't help notice he only paid $4.99 and probably got a bootlegged copy or used copy of questionable origins, or his own machine was going bad. Mine had no such problems and the quality is good so make of it as you will.

I purchased this dvd at a Best Buy store for $4.99, and after watching a few minutes of it, realized I wasted my money. There is not a single time during the course of this movie that there isn't dirt, grain etc all over the picture. With the technology available today, this could be digitally remastered and cleaned up. Avoid this dvd at all costs! It's a shame it's a good movie and deserves a better edition. I will be very careful in the future when buying movies from Goodtimes entertainment.

Kavik is a strong, intrepid championship sled-dog who barely survives a plane crash in Alaska, in which he is taken in by a little boy and is nursed back to health, although the crash tramatized him. Then Kavik's wealthy owner comes to take the dog back to Washington state, marking a heartbreaking departure from his one true friend. But once after being in Washington for a few days, Kavik makes a daring escape out from his owner's house, and makes a journey back to Alaska on his own for thousands of miles; embarking on a test of will and survival -- such a good strong plot on the classic "dog befriends boy" in cinema like "White Fang" and "Big Red". Will Kavik ever reunite with the boy he loves? Will he be able to survive the wilderness? Will he live and be OK? Just one big complaint: the story moves on in a very slow creeky pace -- even more so at the second half, and maybe Kavik should've encontered more dangers in the wild, but maybe that would've made the film too long. The acting is decent. And one would care about Kavik and his human child freind and their relationship. So it's much perfect veiwing for kids and adults. And, hey, the late John Candy has a cameo here as a gas attendant.
