Good Enough.......2007-04-03
This set is good enough. I mean, how can an old production be made to today's standards without altering the original content. Come on. This and Enter the Dragon is all I need to start with for my collection. Bruce is a legend, and to have a set like this is good enough in my opinion.
Good collection, but average........2007-03-27
Right off the bat, this collection loses a star for it's inclusion of Game of Death and Game of Death II. Both are insulting to the Bruce Lee legacy. While Game of Death II is just a REALLY BAD movie, the first Game of Death would have actually been a decent film had they not tried to capitalize on Bruce Lee. Instead, we see a bunch of cheap Bruce Lee acting imitations and some bad special effects. It's just insulting.
The other three movies, worthy of being part of this collection are: The Big Boss (AKA Fists of Fury), Fist of Fury (AKA Chinese Connection), and The Way of the Dragon (AKA Return of the Dragon). I've never seen them done so well. I've seen previous DVDs of the first two movies, but these remasters look marvelous. Most of it is clean. Up close, you might be able to see some small pixelization artifacts though. It seems like they took a high resolution image from the original tapes and then squeezed the picture down to standard definition. Looking a few feet away though, you may not notice the artifacts; and the improvement in picture quality is worth it.
The sound quality is also decent. I'm not a big sound buff, but the sound sounds alright to me. Ah, but wait. The Chinese soundtracks sound good, but the English ones are a different story. Another star was lost here because the English soundtracks on all but the Game of Death movies are junk. The voices are low and the sound effects sound super low quality and way over done. It's not even worth watching the movie in English. Therefore I suggest that to get the most out of this collection, watch it with Audio Track 3: Chinese. This is the original recording in Cantonese. Then select English Subtitles. While this is a bit of a pain, it's better than watching the movie with the English audio.
This is the first time I've seen The Way of the Dragon. I must say I was disappointed. I can see that Bruce tried to get his instructional points in and his humor. But the story seemed second rate and the fight scenes needed more work. Most of them had no punch to them; they looked fake. Although, an OK movie, this is his worst. The other two and the Warner Bros. release, Enter the Dragon, are the best, especially the latter.
What a ripoff.......2007-03-03
I do not know who wrote these reviews but after viewing this collection I was compelled to write this review. I am a fan of Bruce lee and his movies and to have someone come out with this low quality imitation of remastered videos is a disgrace to his legacy. The sounds were almost comical. The real insult is to put special features on each video and to see that there are none. I clicked on the special features on every video and there were no specials. I wish I could not give it one star but I have to in order to write this. Be very careful if you get this collection and know you get what you pay for.

The best Collection of Bruce Lee.......2007-02-15
I have truly enjoyed the copy of this collection.
I don't buy imports - this is the next best thing!.......2007-01-03
What can I say. I bought imports before and got burnt.
Suffice it to say, this is possibly the next best thing to own. Here, you get to actually watch the movies in the original languages, with the exception of Game of Death and Game of Death II, but they were always done in English and is not a big loss.
Having the original Chinese language is great on many fronts. First off, the dubbing that was done before in English was horrendous as it always has been. Plus, some things are changed from the story line when they translate it as they try to match the lip movements to the English words.
Also, because of the translation, this sometimes causes other scenes to be thrown out. Case in point is in Way of the Dragon/Return of the Dragon. When Bruce's character is standing outside the restaurant with his stomach growling, a man comes out and tells him to go on inside. In the American version, we see Bruce go in and then come out again, apparently after having eaten. Well, an entire scene was missed in where he goes into the restaurant to order food and can't speak a word of English, but that's what the waitress speaks in and what the menu is in. The entire exchange is hilarious. It also drives home the point that Bruce's character is out of place in Rome which makes more sense with many of the scenes in the movie which seemed strange when spoken in the English language.
Now, it would have been nice to have more "extras" other than the filler stuff they have here, which is basically slide shows, trailers and interviews with people. I understand the import versions have much more, but for me, this coupled with the 2-disc Enter the Dragon DVD makes my Bruce Lee collection complete.
With the Ultimate Collection, you get a new 5.1 English soundtrack but at times, it sounds funny during the fight scenes. Specifically, it sounds like the fight is taking place in a tunnel with the reverberation turned on a little too much I guess. It can be kind of distracting and disorienting with the way it sounds, but it's not a total loss. Still, the Chinese soundtrack is better. Different music and it just flows better.
The Chinese soundtracks are fine and make the movies much more enjoyable for me because you get to hear the true emotions of the actors. Some have complained about the subtitles being within the movie rather than in the black bars below. This is because these movies are in anamorphic wide screen, so on a HDTV, you'd have no black bars. To me, it's not that bad. That's how it would have been in the theaters to begin with anyways.
The picture for each of the movies are great, with the exception of Way of the Dragon. Early on, parts of it are fuzzy and out of focus. Now, this could be due to the camera shot itself because it's not the entire shot that's out of focus, but it's not enough to be completely horrible or unwatchable. But, after you get past that point in Way of the Dragon, the picture is great just like in all the other movies.
The only unwatchable things are the Game of Death (minus the final fights with the REAL Bruce of course) and Game of Death II and we all know why that is. If you really want to see how the Game of Death fights were, get the 2-disc Enter the Dragon DVD which contains at least 30 minutes of the fights in the order they would have happened, including his side kicks that were supposed to come along with him but were left out of the GOD movie for obvious reasons. It's a very interesting introspective on what Bruce was trying to envision with Game of Death and it's a shame it was never completed the way he wanted it. Plus, all the interviews up to that point are great, with Chuck Norris, Kareem Abdul Jabar and so many other former students and martial artists that knew and worked with Bruce Lee.
To me, this set is worth 4 stars. It could have gotten 5 stars with some extra content and the strange 5.1 sounds hurt that as well, but overall, this is worth having. Couple this with the 2-disc DVD of Enter the Dragon and it's completely worth 5 stars.
There is no better bargain in the states than this.

Sinewy, sleek, and oozing charisma, Bruce Lee brought sex appeal to the martial arts genre, dominating even the most cliché-riddled adventures with his mix of good-humored geniality and focused intensity. His first film, the low-budget Hong Kong adventure Fists of Fury (as it was titled in the U.S.), is exactly that: a raw, rough-edged revenge drama of a country boy who uncovers a heroin-smuggling ring. Yet the film comes alive when Lee pounces into action, his wiry, well-muscled frame erupting in lightning moves. His follow-up, The Chinese Connection, keeps the revenge theme going for a tale of a kung fu student who avenges his teacher's death at the hands of a Japanese rival. The international success of both films enabled the increasingly ambitious Lee to write and direct his own feature, Return of the Dragon, a more-comic tale of a Chinese country boy who travels to Rome to help out cousins under the thumb of local mobsters. Though filled with excellent martial arts bouts, all choreographed by Lee, the highlight is a death match between Lee and karate champion Chuck Norris in the Roman Colosseum. Lee died before completing his last feature, Game of Death, and a rather unconvincing double runs around much of the film between footage of the real Lee, but the climax features an impressive bout with basketball star and Lee student Kareem Abdul-Jabar. Though a cut above most martial arts movies of the period, these are no masterpieces, but then who watches a Bruce Lee film for the story? In these films, plot is simply there for the scenes between Lee's amazing fight sequences. The documentary Bruce Lee: The Legend completes the collection. --Sean Axmaker

THE MASTER COLLECTION OF BRUCE LEE.......2006-05-16
i bought this set at a used dvd store for $15.00 and was very happy to find it. watching it i was struck by how much talent and energy this man had! had he lived he would have one of the most bankable stars in the world.to be sure these are low buget action movies, but mr. lee brought a style to them that no other actor could have brought, his every move was a graceful and well thought out move, even just walking down the street. these are all the films he made(except for enter the dragon which he made for warner bros.) and he shines in them all,(game of death the movie he was making when he died is very weak and only comes alive when they use the footage of him that was shot) and if you love lee or good kung-fu movies this is one to own
I GOT THIS AT BESTBUY FOR 19.99, GO CHECK IT OUT........2006-03-16
This is easily one of the best investments to my collection, I mean 4/5 of bruce lee's movies, and a documentary.
Now fisrt of all, all of these movies are the original dub and very watchable picture.
Fist of fury(Big Boss)----- very fun movie with bruce beating up a lot of people. The end fight is prettygood because it was so authentic. Pai ying is the man, he is also the action coordinator on this.
Chinese Connection(Fist Of Fury)------ One of the best movies of all time. Great fight scenes(check it out when he takes on the whole gym), great score, great acting, hell, even Lo wei is an actor in this movie, and he is pretty freaking good.
Return of the dragon(enter the dragon) directed by bruce lee, action directed by bruce lee, and starrign bruce lee. Come on bruce, you could have put your name as composer too. This movie kicks ass, better than big boss, but not as good as chinese connection. Everyone knows this is the one where bruce fights chuck norris at the end. And it is everythign it is made out to be, certainly not the best though.
Game of death---this is your classic case of fastforwarding kungfu cinema. The fight scenes are pretty good, but a VERY FORGETTABLE story.
Documentary-------very good doc. that talks a lot about what bruce was planning for game of death(sounds sweet), and what other characters he wa experimenting with for hsi future movies. Can you believe he had a blind swordsman idea in mind for himself. There is a lot of other important info also. 5/5 for the documentary, good for any bruce fan.
So I have seen this at cd tradepost for 14.99, and 19.99 at Best buy, so I don't know where the hell that $38 price comes from.
Great product.......2005-10-14

A REAL Green Hornet Series Collection,Please...........2007-02-01
When Bruce Lee passed in 1973, 2 films were pieced together in an attempt to cash in on Bruce Lee mania via splicing together some of Lee's best moments from the Green Hornet series, and thus making 2 90 min. "Bruce Lee films" to the joy of those who were anxious for more Bruce Lee footage. The first was entitled "Green Hornet", the second was entitled, oddly enough, "Fury of the Dragon."
What we have here is the official sequel to the first 90 minute Green Hornet feature. An identical approach in that the production is made up of various scenes from the Green Hornet tv series...and the result? In spite of some good moments and fond memories of watching Bruce Lee get down as a superhero and hearing his REAL voice, we're left with 90 minutes of awkward splicing together of stories that don't blend. I even recall seeing a few fight scenes from the 1st movie. If you ask me, what we have here is a shadow of what was to come in 1978...20th Century Fox's butchering of Bruce Lee's Game of Death. The only difference was that they spliced together footage alone as opposed to throwing in an unconvincing double with 10 minutes of real footage. Either way, this one's a keeper for die hard Bruce Lee fans, one that'll be worth lots in the near future. But yet aqnd still, I have to call Green Hornet vol. 1 and Fury of the Dragon(Green Hornet vol. 2) what it is...BRUCEPLOITATION nonetheless. MAY WE PLEASE HAVE AN OFFICAL GREEN HORNET BOX COLLECTION? THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE TO PURCHASING THESE 2 SPLICE JOBS IS ON THE BLACK MARKET & I DON'T STEAL. SOMEBODY HELP A BROTHER OUT. LOL!
WORD OF WARNING: Make sure that your DVD player will play PAL discs before purchasing this dvd. My copy will only play on my Windows Media Player...it's region 1, it's not a bootleg, but it's being PAL will make all the difference as to whether or not it'll play. Be careful.

AMATEURISH S/F SWORDFIGHTING VIDEO.......2000-10-05
Robert Chapin, who gave us so much good action in "Ring of Steel", does nothing to advance his career here. This is a lamely written, poorly directed, overall amateur-feeling video.
The plot involves a post-apocalyptic swordfighter going back to our time to save the future from some plague, or something. There's something in there about how he rebelled against the warlord who created him, there's the requisite romantic interests and bad guys and stranger-in-a-strange-land type stuff as our heroes and villains explore 1990's LA.
The sets in the future are obviously someone's back yard. The fight choreography is blatant and poorly edited. The acting ranges from almost competent to woeful, and is not helped by the weak material. The director himself plays a guy about to enjoy his wedding night when the female hero from the future, inexplicably topless, appears in his bed. This level of sophistication infuses the whole production. A decent student film festival will give you more cinematic satisfaction.
The only reedeeming qualities I found in this fim are the eye-candy actors and the ability to clearly analyze the sword fighting choreography.
Don't waste your time........2000-04-27
I rented this video because I like films with action and sword fights, but this film did not deliver. The action was weak and the sword fights were silly. The direction and acting were even worse. I wish I could say something positive but I can't think of anything.

Dragon Fury Review.......2000-04-05
I liked this film because it didn't get too technical with the medical/scifi terminology. It was easy to follow in that respect. The fight scenes were done very well with only one objectionable/hokey death of a bad guy. I liked the fact that the hero was not infallible. He had some chinks in his armor which made him more interesting. I would like to have seen one tiny redeeming quality in the main warrior bad guy though. Even just a slight hesitation when he's about to do something really nasty-a hint of regret-would help me believe a little bit more in his character. I would recommend this film to anyone interested in swords or this type of hand to hand combat. The guys aren't bad to look at either!

Fans of Gordon Liu steer clear of this trash.......2007-03-04
Gordon Liu plays a small part in this film as the master that dies. We see one fight with him in the beginning, but it's riddle with wire-fu and ridiculous and over the top moves. None of it is believable. From the beginning the story is rushed and mimicks all films based on this story. It comes off as a cheap knock-off of the real deal, which would be the original Bruce Lee movie (Fist of Fury) and the Jet Li remake (Fist of Legend). If you love the story watch either of those movies and skip this one. The choreography is weak and the actors are obviously not martial artists at all, or very poor at it. The fight sequences are copies of the ones in both movies, but they don't come anywhere near pulling it off. I rented this movie because Gordon Liu put his name on it. I expected real martial arts action but what I got was the worst martial arts movie I've ever seen, bar none. Even the most cheesiest 70's martial arts flicks have more entertainment value than this movie. Ugh, it makes me cringe thinking about it. If you want some good Gordon Liu action you should check out his films from the 70's which are true classics and action-packed. Skip this one altogether.
Worse than Fist of Legend 2.......2006-09-18
Wow, that had to be the worst movie ever. It does have Gordon Liu in it but he doesn't really fight. Billy Chow is in it but I will go ahead and dare you to find a worse performance by him.
The main thing that is wrong is the directing job and the action direction. Those things are pretty important in Hong Kong cinema. There is some decent wire stunt work, but it does not correlate into the action at all. I can't tell if this movie was made in 2005 or 1985. It looks like the director uses the vaseline on the camera lense trick. Why? I seriously wish I knew. I don't know if they slow the action down but it just looks like the sloppiest thing ever. I think once I saw an actor put on more than one move in a shot.
Now you may think I am joking but there is only ONE good fight in this whole movie and it is between the girls. The wife of Chen Zhen looks like the character Fei Hongjin from the TV series Seven Swordsmen and I wish I knew if it was her for sure. And wait until you find out the plot with her. I almost turned this movie off and then the girl fight came on, but I wish I wouls have never bought this. I liked Rickshaw Man(Rickishi Kuri) better then this!
Ugh.......2006-09-05
This is one of the worst martial arts movie I have ever seen. Chinese Connection (Fist of Fury) was classic. Jet Li's remake in Fist of Legend did the classic justice. Sadly, Billy Chow, who was in Fist of Legend, made himself the bad guy here again and was just horrible...probably the worst film for him because he is typically very good. Choreography is something you would see in a home made film of a bunch of wannabes trying to fight...it is THAT bad. I've watched and reviewed several martial art flicks (just check my reviews) and this movie is a joke in comparison...I literally found myself laughing and shaking my head in disgust. The producer and choreographer tried so hard to duplicate the awesome moves found in Fist of Legend, but utterly fails. The main actor playing Chen Jen is just too amateurish of a fighter and is a laughable Bruce Lee imitator. Sammo Hung did a better imitation of him in his overlooked, but excellent Enter the Fat Dragon flick. Glad I only rented the movie. If you want a good laugh or see a horrible Chinese Connection/Fist of Legend remake, then this is for you!!! Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Another COOL Bruce Lee Remake.......2006-09-05
I first heard about this particular Fist of Fury remake at a Bruce Lee clone website, on which it was blasted as being a 21st Bruce Lee clone, chop socky flick in which Dragon Shek joined the long line of 80's and 90's Bruce Lee imitators. However, having purchased the dvd and watched it for the first time, I considered it unique, not only a remake of Chinese Connection(bka Fist of Fury) but a reinterpretation and reinvention of the Bruce Lee classic. The action is there, the choreography is there, the story is unique in that this time around, Chen is married, the Ching Wu school is wiped out in the Japanese retaliation, it turns out that Chen's wife poisoned his Sifu, and the ending is quite alternate. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the fact that Dragon Shek seemed to have been wearing a Bruce Lee wig...as many Bruce Lee clones did in attempted 1970's Bruce Lee biopics, and while he did a few Bruce Lee yells throughout the pic, he doesn't really attempt to mimick Bruce Lee's fighting style...this film reminds me alot of Jet Li's portrayal in Fist of Legend. Not the best, but a keeper for those like myself who enjoy a good, new spin on the Chinese Connection legacy. Bruce Lee,RIP.

They do rip a bit off of Chinese Connection but it is mostly a Fist of Legend remake.
Now Gordon Liu is in this movie. I almost had to turn it off during his scene and I am pretty mad I ended up sticking with it. I had to see if Billy Chow could save it and the answer is a big fat no.
I almost turned this movie off and then the girl fight came on, but I wish I would have never bought this. I liked Chinese Connection 3 better then this!
