My Name is Nobody is a spoof of spaghetti Westerns, but it's also a legitimate, highly regarded entry in the genre. Its pedigree is purebred, as it was executive produced by the maestro of spaghetti Westerns, Sergio Leone, as a personal farewell to the genre that he helped to create. It's a transitional film, cheekily acknowledging the impact of The Wild Bunch and Sam Peckinpah (whose name is seen on a gravestone in one scene) and the popularity of Terence Hill, whose comedic "Trinity" films represented the last gasp of the once-glorious spaghetti Western. All of these elements are beautifully combined in the amusing tale of Nobody (Hill), an ambitious young gunman in 1899 who idolizes a legendary gunslinger Jack Beauregard, played by Henry Fonda in his final Western (and his second for Leone, after the classic Once Upon a Time in the West). Before Beauregard can retire in peace, Nobody sets up a final showdown of epic proportions, and the great Ennio Morricone enhances the abundance of memorable scenes with one of his most playfully inventive scores (including a comical use of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries"). Tonino Valerii fully deserved his director's credit, but Leone also made significant contributions (including the opening scene), and the result is a delightful and surprisingly resonant film that Steven Spielberg later called his favorite Leone production. It's easy to see why: Like many of Spielberg's films, My Name is Nobody qualifies as both art and entertainment. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Young, ambitious gunman Nobody (Terence Hill) sets his eye on his idol, gunslinger Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda), who's intent on sailing off into retirement.

Amusing.......2007-07-03
I found this movie to be kind of amusing. If you're not a fan of cowboy movies you'll probably think the movie is kind of stupid. The parts where they show how quick Trinity is supposed to be is obvious. If you are a fan, you will get a kick out of the movie and the many jabs at other westerns. Good (not great) movie that I'm glad I added to my collection.
Wow !!!.......2007-06-27
All I can say is WOW!!!
Terence Hill surely has to be labelled as the fastest draw from the West. If you're crazy about western movies, then you really have to get your hands on this one. In particular, I liked the opening scene when Henry Fonda was at the saloon having a shave and all of a sudden all hell breaks loose and Henry delivers a fast draw and leaves and the Barber's son tell his father "wow, did you see that? Can anyone be faster than him"? and his father replies "NOBODY"......Nobody happens to be Terence Hill.
A tremendous movie.......2007-06-09
Easily one of the best of the Trinity series. Barring the lack of Bud Spencer, it can hold it's own against even the great Blazing Saddles as far as I am concerned.
Best Leone Western That He Didn't Direct.......2007-05-25
For sure "My Name is Nobody" is a parody of Leone but like the best satires it works as a homage. It doesn't hurt that the master produced and formulated the basic premise of the film. That said Tonino Valerii does a masterful job as Leone's surrogate. Terence Hill is simply wonderful in his comic variation of Clint's man with no name. It's too bad that he wasn't utilized properly in American films. "Mr Billion" and "Super Fuzz", please. Henry Fonda is at his iconic best as the retiring gunslinger. The polar styles of Hill and Fonda work fabulously. If the film can be faulted it's for length and story lapses. There were times I thought the narrative a little incoherent. Lastly, Ennio Morricone contributes a fantastic score. Morricone not only references previous Leone ventures, most prominently "Once Upon A Time in the West", but also cleverly incorporates Wagner. A qualified success but a success nonetheless.
The best of all Terrence Hill Movies.......2007-03-30
This a great western movie.
I think is the best western movie with Terrence Hill and the Master Henry Fonda. No wonder Peter Fonda is a great actor.

"Worn to perfection" is the tag line promoting this crafted character study. It describes Paul Newman, the resourceful 70-year-old lead actor, but not his character, Sully, a North Bath, New York, loner who totally emulates the negative definition of the title. Newman gives a brilliant performance (Oscar-nominated and winner of two critics circle awards) relying on his well-honed subtleties. The dramatics are simple: the return of his son (Dylan Walsh) and grandson, offering a chance to reconcile; odd jobs for a construction company he's trying to sue for an injury; and a comedic grudge match against the owner (a reserved Bruce Willis). North Bath is the kind of place, wrapped in winter (beautifully shot by John Bailey), where enemies are friends, marriages are shaky, and Hawaii is only a state of mind. This "town drama" of a blue-collar America offers the patient filmgoer a rich and rewarding experience. Another small gem from writer-director Robert Benton (Places in the Heart). --Doug Thomas
Customer Reviews:
Good vehicle for Newman.......2007-03-15
This is a very entertaining movie. I had heard nothing about it so it was a complete surprise. I knew that Paul Newman would not appear in anything less than first class so I chose to watch it, knowing I wouldn't be disappointed. I enjoyed every moment, mostly because of the incomparable presence of this eternally attractive man. The rest of the cast was first rate, too. I was pleasantly surprised by Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith and especially by Jessica Tandy (whom I rather disliked in Driving Miss Daisy).
I found the reviews of people who had read the book helpful and that probably explains why I failed to give this five stars. They said that the book is darker and that this is a more Hollywood-ized version of it. I did think that Newman's character was almost too cute and charming in the beginning. He wins our hearts in the first scene, when I think the darker elements of his personality should have been portrayed. And he looks so good--perfect teeth and skin and hair and wears really nice clean plaid shirts in lovely colors. I think that the "real" Sully, would have looked a lot more beat-up--like his pick up. Then we would have journeyed with him in the transformation process that the film shows. It's too slick and quick and easy here. Only the anger of the son showed the extent of the pain that Newman's character inflicted on him.
I wondered, too, about the relationship of Sully to the Melanie Griffith character, which, the film treats in a very light-hearted way, that doesn't completely justify the ending. I suspect that there was more to it in the book. However, as several other reviewers (who read the book) said, if you just want a good, entertaining movie, this is a good one.
Highly Entertaining.......2007-03-07
It was just that, it was a great film with entertaining aspects every few seconds, drama every few seconds, rarely have I seen a film so well balanced and move so smoothly and entertainingly.
No nonsense.......2007-02-19
A real no nonsense character brings some real life leasons to the screen. What a pleasant relief from the usual Hollywood drivel. This movie is right up there with 'The Long Summer of George Adams'.
I love this movie!!!.......2007-01-19
It's a movie that I've watched over & over. There's humor, sweetness, and what else can you say about Paul Newman & Jessica Tandy in the same movie!
Classic Newman.......2007-01-10
Melanie Griffith, Bruce Willis,Jessica Tandy and PAUL NEWMAN...what more really needs to be said?
This rather dry, dark comedy is among my favorite movies by any of these actors. Superbly acted, you cannot move from your chair while the movie is on!

Nobody Knows, an extraordinary film from Japanese director Kore-Eda Hirokazu, is a heartbreaking and touching story about how selfish a single mother can be to her four children, and how resilient children can be. Kicked out of several apartments for her large brood, Keiko (Japanese pop star You) sneaks them in to a new one (two inside the suitcases) and goes over the house rules: No loud noises. They must stay hidden inside the apartment all day, every day. Only Akira, the oldest, leaves to do grocery shopping while she works. He also makes dinner while Keiko goes out on dates (implying to her children that she's looking for a rich husband so that they can all live in a big house together).
One day, Keiko (not a villain, but an unsympathetic, helium-voiced child herself) announces she's going away for a few weeks to work. She soon emerges every few months, only to drop off money before taking off again, at one point, for good. Akira forgoes any normal 12-year-old's upbringing (even school) to play mother, father, even Santa Claus to his siblings. There's a trapped feeling in Nobody Knows. For the younger kids, it's the inability to escape to the outside world. For Akira, it's seeing the outside world and knowing he has too many responsibilities to participate in it--when he tries, the results are disastrous. As the children grow up and resources become more scarce, the film's tenacity to show every painful detail of their existence slows the pace to almost a standstill. Still, it's a lovely, haunting tale beset with unforced performances from its young actors, particularly Yagira, who won the best actor prize at Cannes. -- Ellen A. Kim
Description
Based on true events that shocked Japan, this story of abandoned siblings is a "harrowing, tender film" (The New York Times) that "unfolds with leisurely beauty" (LA Weekly). Filmed over a year and featuring a performance by 12-year-old Yagira Yuya that won the Best Actor prize at the 2004 Cannes International Film Festival, this "haunting" (Newsday) tale is "heartbreakingly brilliant" (The Boston Globe). A childlike mother of four sneaks her children into their new apartment as if it were a game. One of the game's rules is that only Akira, the oldest, can go outside. Their mother leaves, first for a month, then possibly forever. As the money runs out and the utilities are shut off, Akira struggles to take care of his brother and sisters, determined that they stay safe and together.

Get Your Heartstrings Ready For A Real Workout.......2007-05-08
This review refers to "Nobody Knows" DVD(MGM)
Well, if this film doesn't touch you deeply I don't know what will. It's a fictionalized account based on true events of four orphaned children in Toyko, trying to sustain themselves and live somewhat normal lives while trying to stay together. Get your heartstrings ready for a heavy workout.
A young mother with 2 boys and 2 girls ages 4 to 12, moves into an apartment and deceives the landlord into thinking it is just she and her 12 year son. Soon we meet the other 3 siblings and it doesn't take long before they all endear themselves to the audience. Mother, who although easy going with her children, sets down the rules which may never be broken. No noise, and other then Akira, the oldest boy, no one can ever go outside. As she leaves them each day to go to work, they follow the rules, Akira looking out for his younger siblings. But Mom, we soon learn is more childlike then the children themselves. Putting her own social life ahead of the kids, she leaves them for weeks, then again, never to return again.
As Akira tries to balance the budget, frugally using the money she left, and being caregiver to the family, the rest of the kids learn to make do with what they have. As time passes and we see little Yuki's crayons go from a fresh box to little pieces of color, survival becomes the objective. They stick to Mom's rules, but yearn to be like other kids. Just to go out and play, have a friend , go to school, would be a joy to them, but luxuries they can't afford for fear of getting caught and thrown out or separated. Their world falls to pieces, scrounging for food, loosing the use of basic utilities, we watch their gradual descent into depression as they live in filth, and their exaltation when they decide to break the "rules".
Everyone of these kids will find a place in your heart. You may feel like grabbing them up and taking them in yourself. I thought the children were portrayed wonderfully by the actors, and could feel all the very real emotions and fears each was feeling. Even the hapiness they felt at just the little extravagances, like getting to go out for a walk, celebrating a holiday, hitting a baseball, making a friend. Take a close up look at the image on the DVD cover, that face full of the joy of a short freedom will stay with you for quite a while. The extraordinary filming also gave a good look at their life and their surroundings.
The DVD is excellent. A beautiful widescreen picture with great color and sound. The language is Japanese(stereo surround, all you really need for this one) with optional English subtitles. The DVD automatically defaults to no subtitles, so you'll want to go into the language options and set that up before the starting the film, as right in the beginning there is a prologue in Japanese, and you'll want to read that. The end credits were in Japanese only. I would have liked to have some English credits, especially for the music which I loved as well.(the actors are listed on the back cover of the case)
It's a wonderfully intense story, and worth a couple of views at least. One that will stay with you for quite a while after the view. If you are looking for action and special effects, pass this one by. The only thing that kept me from going 5 stars was that I didn't feel closure at the end, and would have liked to have known more of what the future held for these marvelous children.
Enjoy....Laurie
Nobody Knows is a very sad movie........2007-05-05
Nobody Knows is a very moving and powerful movie. In Nobody Knows, four children, each with a different father, are abandoned by their mother with only $500 and their apartment. They try to live without further assistance while waiting for their mother to return. What is even more tragic about this movie is that the real life story that it is based on (The affair of the four abandoned children of Sugamo) was much more horrible.
It is very much like another very sad movie that I have watched, Grave of the Fireflies. They are both about children living in dire poverty without the aid of adults, both Japanese, both sad, and both based upon true stories, and neither has a happy ending. Even though this movie is painful to watch, I still reccomend it, as it is very well made and has a powerful (and I think important) message. People need each other's help to survive, and children are especially vulnerable. Be your brother's keeper; extend a helping hand to those in need.
Deeply Moving, Somber.......2007-05-01
This is the most poignant movie I've seen since Aronofsky's Requiem For A Dream. It is one that stays with the viewer long after watching it. I definitely do not recommend watching it if you are at all faint of heart. That said, this movie is altogether perfect and the performances by the child actors are all too real. Many viewers have faulted the ending for not having a resolution: I don't think this is significant and may have been the only realistic way the movie could end. There really could not have been any happy ending for this tragedy. This movie is worth owning as is another excellent Asian film: Quitting.
One place to find out about the true story.......2007-04-09
You can find out more about the true accounts of these children by going to wikipedia and searching for Affair of the four abandoned children of Sugamo. Contrary to 'Observer,' the child who was beaten to death was not beaten by the brother, but by his friends. The brother was indicted for abandoning a body, but due to the circumstances involved, he was remanded to a care facility.
Heartbreaking And Harrowing Family Drama--"Nobody Knows" Is A Powerful Japanese Film You Won't Likely Forget.......2007-02-08
"Nobody Knows" is a terrific, if downbeat film, based on a real life case of child abandonment that unfolded in Tokyo in the late eighties. This Japanese film, by Hirokazu Koreeda, is an elegant, understated and heartbreaking account of one family coming to terms with the unthinkable. But far from Hollywood melodrama, this quiet film unfolds at a natural pace and confronts day to day living in a matter of fact way. This lack of sensationalism, this refrain from overt dramatics, distinguishes "Nobody Knows" as a film of great import and harrowing realism. For this film never cues the audience with big emotional sequences. Instead, it relies on a dignity and intelligence that builds real suspense and genuine involvement--you become invested in the children's plight simply because you are asked to live it with them.
The film begins as a young single mother, apparently evicted from her last residence, moves into a new apartment with her 12 year old son Akira. After dealing with her new landlord, they start unpacking. In the process, two young children are revealed to have been hiding in the luggage, and an older sister is subsequently snuck into the apartment late at night. With 5 of them living in the space, the ground rules are set. Akira is the only one that is to leave the apartment, the others are to remain silent and unseen. It quickly becomes clear that Akira is the primary caregiver, and as time goes on the mother becomes less present. Leaving money, she starts leaving for weeks or months at a time (for job and boyfriend) only to return as if nothing is out of the ordinary. And then....she simply doesn't return at all.
Again, the effectiveness of "Nobody Knows" is the way it quietly builds in intensity. As Akira and his siblings adjust to a new form of existence, there are no histrionics--no emotional grandstanding. No, it's just kids who are resilient--who do what they need to do. And while some may claim that the film's length or pacing is problematic, I found that the time spent was well justified. We are with the kids on every step of the journey--from their denial, to their acceptance, to their liberation from the rules, their struggles and successes. It can be sad, to be sure, but it is never less than honest.
Grounding the production is Yuya Yagira as Akira. In an incredibly natural and dignified performance, we see a true portrait of a child wizened beyond his years. Caring for the family, being the provider--Yagira conveys the emotional complexity of his position. You understand and respect Akira, even when he faces some decisions no one should have to face. Yagira won the Best Actor prize at Cannes for his astute performance. "Nobody Knows" is recommended for serious, adult minded viewers. Not always easy entertainment, this great film strives and achieves so much more. KGHarris, 02/07.

Great story plus great acting!.......2006-12-17
I saw this a couple of weeks ago for the first time and LOVE this movie. Marlo Thomas is just great as the main character with mental illness and her story of bravery. It is just amazing how people with mental illness, especially back when this story takes place, are misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and just plain mistreated. Even since this movie was made 20 years ago, some big strides have been made in understanding, diagnosing, and treating people with mental illnesses. Awesome story of bravery and overcoming.

Suppose They Gave a War and Nobody Came?.......2005-09-07
Fantastic all star cast. Lots of laughs. It starts a little slow, doesn't have much of a plot but is entertaining. The war is between the local Army base and the local sheriff.
This Military versus Civilian Comedy/Spoof Rules!!.......2002-05-15
In this Vietnam-era movie with an all-star cast that includes Tony Curtis,Ernest Borgnine,Brian Keith,Ivan Dixon,Suzanne Pleshette,Don Ameche and others.Warrant Officer Micheal Nace(Brian Keith) gets assigned to a large Army Base assigned as a community relations specialist who is reunited with his 2 long time Pals Sargent Shannon Gambroni(Tony Curtis) and Sargent Raymond Jones(Ivan Dixon). There has been a long time feud between the soldiers and the small town just outside the base.So Nace decides to throw a party to unite the 2 sides.Tensions reach a boiling point when Shannon is arrested for indecent behavior while hitting on the local Sheriff's(Earnest Borgnine)prospective girlfriend(Suzanne Pleshette).Nace and Jones commandeer an old WW2 Tank and crash their way through the town jail to rescue and free their friend and set the record straight once and for all especially with the bigoted, brutal Sheriff which makes this film probably the best Military versus Civilian Comedy/Spoof ever!!

"I often have the feeling that I'm passing through my life.".......2007-01-31
The slick stylish Spanish thriller "Nobody Knows Anybody" is set in Seville during Holy Week in the year 2000. Newspaper crossword puzzle developer and would-be writer Simon Cardenas (Eduardo Noriega) is struggling as usual with his novel when he receives a cryptic telephone message ordering him to use the word "adversary" as an answer to an upcoming crossword clue. Since the message also contained threats, Simon does what he's told, and he soon finds himself embroiled in a nightmarish sequence of events.
Directed by Mateo Gil, "Nobody Knows Anything" opens with a scene of a man stabbed to death with a crucifix through his heart, and this scene is one of the ideas that feeds the notion you are about to see some sort of horror film with religious overtones, but the plot moves away from the horror aspect into straight thriller territory. The film--which owes much of its style to American thrillers--is slickly produced, and the exotic settings of the sights and sounds of Seville help, but the preposterous plot with its huge gaps in logic and implausibility ultimately left this viewer disappointed and feeling a bit cheated by the experience.
I was intrigued at first by the film and drawn into the plot. However, once the plot and the mystery aspect became clear (and I can't give away too much here), the film became silly and trite. There's little character development--our hero is a flat, dull passive character, and the film's emphasis is on the thrill aspect. A slick product that is ultimately empty and really ridiculous, this film is in Spanish with English subtitles--displacedhuman
A Nice Thriller with Great Views of Sevilla During Holy Week.......2005-08-11
This Spanish film is a nice thriller. It keeps you in suspense for a good part of the film. The views of the beautiful city of Sevilla (Seville) during Holy Week (Easter) are very nice; it captured some of the essense of this special time of the year. I was there in 2004 for Holy Week, and it is truly an awesome spectacle, 24 hours a day.
The only bad part, was the "shooting scenes" down the historical narrow streets. I think this part was silly. It could have been handled with more suspense and realism (even without the use of those "guns?").
CAUTION: This DVD, released by Venevision in August 2005, is not widescreen as is the original film. The transfer quality is good, unlike an earlier release by the same company (which I have read was poor). Look for the cover with the woman within a rifle scope; this is the better version. Never-the-less, my DVD arrived with a dimple in the recorded surface, causing the movie to freeze-and-skip at the end of Chapter 9. I have returned it for an exchange.
If you want an even better version, go to ElCorteIngles.es and buy the version from Spain. You will need a special regionless DVD player.
A moving thriller that gets its aim!.......2005-06-16
At this moment Spain has become undoubtedly, in one the most prestigious countries in the Europen Comunity in what cinematpgraphy concerns. Not only a crowd of talented directors such Alejandro Amenabar, Juan de la Iglesia, but equally the consecrated Almodovar and Carlos Saura, bur besides a magnificent army of good actors, Bardem, Carmen Maura and the young promises such Eduardo Noriega and Paz Vega among others. The list is much longer but the point to remark id s the undeniable advance in the originality of the scripts.
A journalist lives pacefully thanks to his natural skills and talent, making challenging crosswords. It seems nothing escapes from his control. He lives with a roomate who eventually helps him to find some clues for his daily job.
But soon he finds a dangerous warning though his PC. Adversary must be the word he has to fill in the horizontal line file 6 for the next Saturday.
Suddenly there will be more ane more riddles, that will become in a true nightmare. Without knowing he has been chosen as the unique warrior of a very weird and complex brotherhood, inspired in ancient beliefs and inspired by the toad as a devil symbol.
The tension will increase until the smart end that will let you astonished due its originality.
Well script and splendid cast.
if considering this purchase, PLEASE READ!!!!.......2005-01-26
Interesting premise, great acting from an amazing cast. Maybe not as quite up there with abre les ojos, but still pretty good. Also and appearance or two from a very young and sexy Paz Vega.
why the 1 star? I would give it zero If I could. THE QUALITY IS AWFUL!!!!! this looks like a bootleg from chinatown.
well, this transfer was worse quality than that. If amazon would let me return it for a refund, I would be quite happy. There should be some sort of quality check before this stuff can be released legally.
I Know Myself - Good, but not "Great", .......2004-12-16
This little film from Spain has a story to tell, too bad it takes place mostly in the beginning. It deals with hidden witches covens which are scattered throughout Sevile Spain and it has as its main character, a pseudo-intellectual who writes boring crossword puzzles for the main paper, "El Hergizito". Soon he finds himself in a mysterious world of terror which he can not fathom. I was quite interested until the story became a cliche taken from American films and then it became just average on the whole. Most of the derailment took place in a scene where there are numerous men in hoods shooting laser guns in a 'game" that really looks stupid, from there, we learn that the coven of 'Satanas" wants to destroy Seville. His former roommate is the brain child of a group of degenerate loser and misfits, whom he later blows up in another absurd scene, (why kill them off?). The ending is typical and even expected, because he finds the evil guy and shoots him dead, and at the end, it was all just a novel, but we aren't sure are we?

Nobody's Baby combines the kidnapping high jinks of Raising Arizona with the sheer goofiness of Dumb and Dumber. Billy (Skeet Ulrich) and Buford (Gary Oldman, channeling Michael Jeter with scraggly hair and moustache), like characters in the crazed comedies of the Brothers Coen and Farrelly, are as kindhearted as they are softheaded. The two grew up in the same orphanage and have been like brothers ever since. Due more to stupidity than malicious intent, most of their adult lives have been spent behind bars. After a lucky escape from a paddy wagon (just as they're about to be sent to separate prisons), Billy witnesses a car crash and rescues the sole survivor--a baby. He decides to keep it. Buford would prefer to exchange the tyke for ransom money, but fate has other plans in this black comedy that works best as drama, but is less effective when reaching for laughs. --Kathleen C. Very Funny Movie.......2005-03-31
This movie is a hidden gem. It is very funny and shows a side of Skeet Ulrich that is wonderful. He is very good in this role as a "rather dim witted, lovable character." All of the actors do a great job.
WOW.......2005-02-12
Like everyone else, I discovered this film by accident. I've seen it twice now and I would love to see it a few more times. It was such a delight. I've been waiting for Skeet Ulrich to give another performance as endearing as his wonderful turn in "Touch" and I think he did it here. He has the most amazingly innocent eyes and no matter what the situation in this movie, you always trust Billy's intentions, if not his judgment.
Billy Raedeen and Buford Dill met in reform school. Buford, played by the magnificent chameleon, Gary Oldman, is an older boy with a criminal streak. He's not a bad ass, just an oportunist. He enlists young Billy in his schemes and the two of them land in jail repeatedly. At the kickoff of our story, they've been busted once again for hanging out in a small-town post office with a sixer of PBR, reading peoples' mail. In court, they barely take anything seriously until the judge decides that they're clearly a bad influence on each other and need to be sent to separate prisons. Fortunately, the boys are freed during someone else's jailbreak. Although that separation they so dreaded does occur.
On a deserted highway, Billy thumbs for a ride and a family stops, ostensibly to pick him up. They are running on a flat tire and the patriarch of the unruly brood offers to take Billy along if he fixes the flat. He obliges, but he's stiffed for the ride. Later that night, in the midst of a rainstorm, Billy sits miserably in the open back of a truck. The family's station wagon appears behind him, trying in vain to pass the truck. Billy decides a little revenge is in order so he laughs and moons the dad. Enraged, cursing and flipping Billy off, the man drives his car off the road and slams it into a bridge. Startled, the truck driver hits the wall under the overpass and gets stuck there. Billy jumps out and tries to save the family. Only their infant can be removed from the wreckage before it explodes.
And that's only the beginning!
This is a terrific comedy. Terribly sweet but with a Coenesque edge. The actors are terrific. You will love all these characters. Well, except for Vern and maybe Sonny, but that's by design. Listen for the wisdom of the Dog. Enjoy the sheer adorability of Skeet Unlrich's smile, that cutie-pie baby, and the lovely Radha Mitchell. Behold a Gary Oldman character you have truly never, ever seen the likes of before. And be sure to stick around for his country-western two-step over the credits with Mary Steenburgen. Mary, Mary. What can I say about Mary? She's always amazing. This character is 180 degrees from her current role on the superb "Joan Of Arcadia".
There are some really fun cameos that people have already mentioned and the tone is mostly light and fast-paced. But beware that there is a lot of salty language, some nudity and a few spurts of violence. Still, all-in-all, everything works out well for the people you love in the film. And that's why I think we find this flick so satisfying. The ending leaves you with a tear of joy in your eye and big smile on your face. And how many movies can we say that about these days?
My find of the year.......2004-09-09
There are plenty of great movies out there, but most of them get a fair amount of press. A find is that movie you don't expect anything from, you probably never even heard of it, and suddenly you're telling all of your friends to see it. I recently saw Nobody's Baby, and it's easily one of my best finds ever.
It seems all of this movie's reviewers have a similar story, so I'll try not to be too redundant, but I just had to post another 5 star review because this movie deserves an audience. A comedy that delivers great laughs is reason enough to watch, but this movie has a huge heart that delivers its message more powerfully than some of the best dramas do, and that's what makes it my find of the year. That said, try not expect the best movie you've ever seen from it, because part of what made this great for me was expecting nothing at all.

"My wife has it in for me.".......2006-10-07
Emilio (Jose Coronado) is a successful economist who works at the prestigious Bank of Spain. He's happily married to the attractive Agata (Adriana Ozores) and together they have a son named Sergio. Emilio is so talented when it comes to money matters that all of his relatives and even his best friend, Jose (Roberto Alvarez) hand over their money for Emilio to invest. Emilio insists that he prefers to deal in cash, and no one seems to find this a bit fishy.
Things begin to unravel for Emilio when Jose announces that he and his wife are getting divorced. Jose must move out of the family home, and he needs money in order to furnish his new place. So he turns to Emilio and explains that he needs some of his invested money back. But the money hasn't been invested, and Jose's divorce is just the beginning of Emilio's troubles. It seems that Emilio's life is a complete lie, and the pressure is now on to keep everyone deceived. Meanwhile, Emilio experiences a powerful attraction towards his son's babysitter, Rosana (Marta Etura)--a young girl who's seeking a scholarship.
"Nobody's Life" is from Spanish director Eduard Cortes, and this is an incredibly well paced, well-acted drama. The film grows slowly in intensity until it reaches an extremely tense, riveting conclusion. "Timeout" and "L'Adversaire" are both recent foreign films that deal with a similar theme, and if you enjoyed either of those titles, you'll like "Nobody's Life." "Nobody's Life" is not as cerebral as "Timeout", and not as ominous as "L'Adversaire", but it's a very clever film complete with twists and turns that keep the viewer focused on Emilio's constant, slippery efforts to escape detection. Emilio's attraction to Rosana adds a great deal of depth to the drama as the relationship allows him to escape into further deceptions--and at this point it's obvious that it's necessary for Emilio to deceive himself above all others. In Spanish with English subtitles--displacedhuman

Description
Every year, the renowned lectures given by Rosamond Bernier at the Metropolitan Museum of Art are sold out months in advance. Her lectures are really conversations, intimate chats about artists, their friends, their society and their work.
Now your chair at home can become the seat you couldn't buy in New York. These DVD's are the actual performances filmed as they were given "Live At The Met."
As co-founder of L'Oeil, the influential vanguard art magazine published in Paris, Bernier became friendly with Matisse, Picasso, Miró, Léger, Braque, Man Ray, Max Ernst, Duchamp and many other modern masters. These lectures have a depth that only a firsthand acquaintance would allow.
THE MATISSE I KNEW
As a young American, Rosamond Bernier was sent to see Henri Matisse in the south of France, to discuss his illustrious career and the crowning achievements of his last years. A formal interview turned into a lasting friendship.
THE MATISSE NOBODY KNEW
Matisse is famous worldwide as one of the great revolutionaries of modern art -a man who worked for eight, ten, twelve hours a day and who looked to the great art of the past for ideas and motifs that would set his imagination on fire.
