Customer Reviews:
No classics, but not the worst movies ever made.......2006-10-18
BLOOD OF THE DRAGON-this is the only movie I thought was actually worth seeing on this DVD. The movie is made just for Jimmy Wang Yu and while it is extremely cheap, it still provides quite a bit of fun. Just like Master of the Flying Giullotine, the movie is given an odd touch with rock music in the credits and mixed throughout the film. While it didn't work like Guillotine, it does add to the movie. Basically Wang Yu plays a guy who has to help a kid give a list of names to a leader of rebels so that the government won't kill him. Lung Fei plays his usualy villian role very well but unfortunately he is only a small type of henchman. The whole movie is a build up to the final fight where a whole bunch of people come to take out Jimmy. It is spectacular and very well choreographed for 1973. There are also a couple of very funny parts where you can clearly see the spear not going through and just does not really close at all. I only saw it 4 times though and it did not detract from Jimmy Wang Yu being one of the baddest and coolest dudes ever on screen.
Picture quality is very bad but not unwatchable. I give it a 2.5/5 but lean more towards a 3 than a 2.
CHAMP VS. CHAMP-Dragon Lee and Godfrey Ho collaberate for an almost watchable kung fu movie. It is very odd that I actually made it all the way through this as Dragon On Fire was the only other Lee/Ho movie that I accomplished this. There is one really good fight, the second to last. I think it was Eagle Han but they manage to put together enough kicks and well timed moves to make it look pretty good. Dragon Lee also puts on a few decent kicks though like Van-Damme, he doesn't show any real power, he just sticks his leg up there. The final fight is just godawful as they chose a pretty large guy to fight Dragon. The villians all look as corny as normal but Dragon's master is somewhat likeable.
Picture quality is kind of bad but pretty watchable. I give this movie a surprising 1.5/5 and may have to lean towards a 2.
BLOODFIGHT-this is truly one of the most unwatchable movies ever. Yusuaki Kurata is in a tournamnet at the start at eh movie and throws some people around. We seriously don't get another action sequence form him until the final fight with Bolo that I almost turned off. But after spending 90 minutes watching it, I decided to stick out the last 5 minutes. Wow I was majorly dissapointed. If you are looking for a movie that does not explain ANYTHING, has Simon Yam as the main martial artist in the film, and has a white guy with a jean jacket and sunglasses as the main bad guy throughout the film, then you may want to check this out.
This movie by far has the best picture quality on the DVD. It starts off widescreen then turns to full 5 minutes in. Still pretty good quality, just not a watchable movie.
Great purchase for old school kung fu fans..........2005-06-17
If this was more expensive, my ratings would be much lower. But for $6 (here or at other places), this is a great purchase.
Blood of the Dragon is one of Wang Yu's better films. Not his best, but quite entertaining. He plays the Dragon, the title (I assume) comes from the fact he gets quite badly injured by the other main character - who is actually a good guy. The other character has a "Magic" sword - magic because it has a hidden dagger in it. His weapon is actually pretty cool and well used in the film. Wang Yu uses a spear, and this is one of the few movies where a spear actually looks cool.
Anyway, the film is quality, with a good amount of bloody violence and a large, long (about 20 minute) pretty well-choreographed final fight (ironically, the secondary lead character with the magic sword gets a better fight). This is also the oldest movie I've seen that has a "whip sword".
The film has its boring parts, but stick through em. On second and third viewings, skip them.
Bloodfight I didn't manage to watch. It's pretty bad. But it might be enjoyable if you like the style of film (modern day tournament). Bolo Yeung is indeed the villain in the film.
Champ Against Champ was the big surprise for me. Much better than I expected. Not terrible like many other Dragon Lee films, but quite enjoyable. It concerns a lead character who is with a group of people that get attacked. The main villain hits him with a poison dart, which should have killed him but instead just leaves him missing one leg below the knee (the dubbing here plays into the entertainment - his doctor, an elderly Chinese man, has a Kentucky accent). Not letting that slow down his quest for revenge, he fashions a solid metal leg to use as a weapon in kung fu, and he sets off.
The fights are surprisingly good, and fast paced. There's also occasional parts which are unintentionally funny, adding more to the movies score. Like early in the film, the lead's father (or teacher, I forget), an elderly guy, is watching everyone fight and is quite happy with how it is going, and then a leg comes in from the right side of the screen and hits him in the face HARD. Funny stuff.
There's also the metal leg. Sometimes when he does a sort of super kick (a bit like when Wang Yu's one-armed boxer does his finishing punches, but better) he sends people flying. One guy gets knocked into a tree, others just fly back, and some do this cool thing where they slide really far along the ground. Cool stuff.

Rocky Meets Bloodsport, With a Limited Talent Pool.......2006-03-17
Some quick stats for fans of martial arts films. Body count: 1, with 2 ambiguous. Nude scenes: 0. Best (only) death sequence: Neck snap. All spoken dialogue is English.
Whether you're a fan of plot or a fan of action in martial arts movies, this film will disappoint. The acting in the movie is amateurish, save for Yasuaki Kurata (plays Masahiro Kai), whose acting is respectable in a sea of obvious low-budget casting. The characters are, for the most part, poorly developed and forgettable.
The fight sequences are fakey at times, poorly choreographed, and rarely last longer than a few seconds. The only fight scenes of any respectable length are Simon Yam vs. Bolo Yeoung, and Yasuaki Kurata vs. Bolo Yeoung, otherwise known as student vs. bad guy, and master vs. bad guy.
The plot is a nothing complex or unique: Student dies in tournament, and master reenters the ring to avenge him. The master's comeback is a spitting image of Stallone's training and comeback in the Rocky series.
You may enjoy the many eigties culture aspects of the movie, such as a gang of punks including a slick haired, jean jacket clad, black shades-wearing leader.
Bottom line, there are many martial arts films to go through before you need to resort to watching films of this level. Any film that would stoop to recycling the plot of a Van Damme movie (Bloodsport) speaks for itself. While the movie is not totally without merit, you would get much better satisfaction from "The Young Master" or "Story of Ricky."
JUST TO CLARIFY THIS, THIS COPIED BLOODSPORT AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.......2006-03-08
IF SOMEONE SAID TO ME HEY I GOT A MOVIE WHERE YUSAIKA KURATU AND BOLO FIGHT EACHOTHER ON SCREEN, I WOULD KNOCK THEM DOWN, GRAB THE TAPE, AND RUN TO THE NEAREST VCR/DVD PLAYER, POP IT IN AND WATCH. ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH I WOULD FIND THAT PERSON AND BEAT THE LIVING SHI* OUT OF THEM AND LET THEM KNOW THAT HE WOULD HAVE ONLY GOT BEATEN UP ONCE IF THE MOVIE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD.
BUT THIS IS HONESTLY THE WORST MOVIE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. I GOT THIS IN A DOUBLE PACK WITH CHINESE HERCULES, AND AFTER HAVING WATCHED THIS, I MIGHT GIVE IT A 3/5. BEFORE WATCHING THIS I WOULD HAVE TO DECIDE TO GIVE IT A 1 OR 2. IF THIS MOVIE TOOK MORE THAN 24 HOURS TO MAKE, THEN THEY TOOK WWWWWWWAAAAAYYY TOO LONG.
kURATU IS A TOP 5 ACTION STAR OF ALL-TIME FOR ME, BUT AFTER WATCHING THIS, I WOULDN'T BELIEVE ANYONE THAT HE WAS GOOD IN FIST OF LEGEND MADE ONLY LIKE 4-5 YEARS AFTER THIS IF I WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS FIRST.
SO IF YOU HAVE SEEN FIST OF LEGEND, THEN BUY THIS MOVIE SO YOU CAN NOW SEE THE WORST OF KURATU AFTER SEEING HIS BEST.
THIS DESERVES TO BE SEEN BY NO ONE.
I THINK THIS RIPPED OFF BLOODSPORT.......2004-07-09
THOUGH THIS STEALS IDEAS FROM BLOODSPORT, THIS MOVIE SEEMS TO BE PRETTY GOOD ANYWAY. THIS VIOLENT MARTIAL ARTS FEST HAS PLENTY OF GOOD FIGHT SCENES, BUT THE THING THAT SEEMS TO HURT THIS MOVIE IS ITS SHODDY FILMING. MARTIAL ARTS FANS SHOULD BE SATISFIED WITH THIS NONETHELESS.

Made Just for BOLO Fans!.......2003-09-10
I picked this DVD up for @ $10, and it was worth it! 2 complete films, w/some special features, such as photo gallery, chapters, etc...
As for the films, themselves, Breathing Fire was a good story - two brothers who try to foil bank robbers w/the help of their uncle, a martial artist. Bolo Yeung was, of course, one of the robbers - seeing him in a dress made it worth watching right there! There was lots of action, with numerous fight scenes, and betrayal and backstabbing. All through the story, one of the boys, a Vietnamese, searches for his roots, though he may not care for what he finds.
In Blood Fight, we see through the eyes of Kai as he re-lives what brought him to the finals of the Free Fighting Tournament- where he is about to face Chang Lee (Bolo Yeung). Lee killed Kai's student at a previous tournament, and now Kai seeks revenge. The tournament fighting is vastly different from Bloodsport - the first fights are often comical - I loved it! And the final fight is longer and much more dramatic - it deserves the name Blood Fight.
These films really enhanced my appreciation for Bolo Yeung's acting and fighting abilities. I think you'd enjoy them, too.

actually loved the story.......2007-05-03
Bloodfight is a pretty horrible low budget movie. The fights look bad, the acting is painful, the directing is weak, the editing is crappy, and the sound and picture quailty are equivilant to an asian movie made in the late 60's. Good news, the story is actually somewhat original, and if done with a bigger budget, this movie could have had a decent impact.
Bloodfight's story at first is similar to that of Bloodsport, which was only made about a year earlier than Bloodfight. In fact, Bloodfight could possibly be a continuation. Again the world famous kumite is held in H.K., and fighters from around the world assemble, including Chong Li (Bolo Yeung) who was in Bloodsport. I am assuming it is even the same Chong Li character, since that is the name the fans chant during his fights. A sensai played by Yasuaki Kurata (Fist of Legend) was champion of the kumite 10 years ago, and wants to train a student to defeat Chong Li. His obsession hurts his relationship with his wife, and blindly accepts an American punk for a student. He fortunately discovers an Asian with more talent and discipline and uses him instead. Thinking this new student can defeat Chong Li, he gets killed instead, and the sensai becomes a depressed drunk. The students former girlfriend convinces the sensai to train to become a champion once again.
I can say that is the only part of Bloodfight I found intriguing. The fights are plenty, but look really bad. The last fight between sensai and Li lasts a good 7 minutes. Its the best fight of the movie, but thats not saying much. Everything else the movie offers is weak and annoyingly bad. Put it aside and you got a little treat (if you can understand the muttered English these actors try to speak).
I guess you could say this is one to add to your Bolo collection. Again, he plays the villain, which he does in most of his movies. A decent story too but you must leave your impatience at the door.
A Silly Film.......2006-12-15
BLOODFIGHT is really a rehash of several and similar kumite based films. Perhaps a self-ripoff might be a more appropriate term. If one were to compare BLOODFIGHT to BLOODSPORT, then the comparisons stand out, even apart from the titles. Both star Bolo as the Bad Guy who seeks to defend his title in the kumite. Both involve a young fighter who is trained by a grizzled veteran. And both feature a number of preliminary bouts that are at least as interesting as the featured fight. The primary difference is that the young fighter bows out of the film by the midpoint and his place is taken by his sensei. The actors speak in sloooow English and the acting is abysmal. Bolo may look tough but he speaks English in a voice that does not do justice to the word "muffled." The plot is paper mache thin and serves only to lead to the climax. This film has no Jean Claude Van Damme to hold the viewer's interest. Bolo, alas, lacks the acting chops to carry BLOODFIGHT on his own. Pass.
mark twain sam australia WA Perth.......2005-11-16
This was one of Bolo Yeung's earlier films, defenitely a classic considering the date the movie was made and for a low-budget film it didnt turn out too bad at all. Bolo Yeung is a known and feared fighter all over Hong Kong in the arena known as the kumite. A sensei and ex-champion of the kumite, takes on a new student with a talent for martial arts he decides to put the student in the ring with Bolo. However, the fight didn't go as planned and the student dies in the hands of Bolo who shows no mercy for his opponents. Devestated by the death of his student, the sensei becomes a drunk but then has an encounter with the students now ex-girlfriend reminding him of what has to be done. The sensei gets back into his own training and gets himself ready for the next kumite bout where he will challenge and fight Bolo to the death.

A TRAINER COMES BACK OUT OF RETIREMENT TO FIGHT A RUTHLESS FIGHTER [BOLO YEUNG] WHO KILLED A YOUNG FIGHTER HE TRAINED. THIS VIOLENT MARTIAL ARTS FEST HAS PLENTY OF GOOD FIGHT SCENES, BUT THE THING THAT SEEMS TO HURT THIS MOVIE IS ITS SHODDY FILMING. MARTIAL ARTS FANS SHOULD BE SATISFIED WITH THIS NONETHELESS.
this movie kicks ...!.......2002-04-17
bloodsport totally ripped this asian movie off! even going so far as to hire bolo to play the same charachter! that aside both are worth watching. ...
