Customer Reviews:
MR. MOTO bad follow-up........2007-06-16
I purchased Volume One of the MR. MOTO series from Fox, and was delighted with the entire package. The restoration of these films is perfect, and for 1930s' programmers, they are surprisingly exciting, with fine production values.
That said, Volume Two gives us the poorest MR. MOTO features, weak scripts, inept comedy relief. Several of these films need "dramatic relief" from the comedy. It was not WW II that stopped this series;
it was the dwindling quality of the films. Save your money.
Mr. Moto's last Warning.......2007-06-14
This is the epitomy of the Mr. Moto films and is an outstanding example from this series of films. Mr. Moto is traveling by ship to the northern Suez port and is killed early in the film shortly after docking. There is a ring of spies and sabotuers that plan to scuttle the French Fleet at the mouth of the canal to stop all marine passage. Moto wears disquises to remain unknown, and yet mixes in well with the enemy agents to learn what they plan. Comic relief comes from several Brits: the Port Commander, and a self centered traveler who has no common sense. People are killed left and right until Moto swings into action and dispatches the entire band of spys. He takes no prisoners and while his methods seem a bit extreme by today's standards, he eliminates the need for a public trial for these patently unscrupulous men.
This is the movie that pulls together all the parts of earlier films and provides a great adventure of non-stop thrills.
I found it a bit period in nature, but completely satisfying in its means of resolving a weighty problem, including coming back from the dead.

Magnificent Moto.......2007-04-10
Both collections 1 and 2 are fun filled evenings. Invite a few friends over and have a Moto party. MUCH better than a super bowl party - Moto is entertaining and even a bit cheesy-campy - not hormonal on screen or off.
Excellent Adventure/Detective Series.......2007-03-29
The Mr. Moto series is an excellent group of adventure/detective movies. Peter Lorre's characterization as Mr. Moto and a fine supporting cast elevates these movies above the usual "B" detective movies.
The restoration of these films by Twentieth Century Fox is excellent. The picture quality of this set(and its companion set) are far superior to the public domain versions of these films.
Please consider two (2) other related purchases (not to mention to other volume of Mr. Moto films) to become an expert fan of Mr. Moto and Peter Lorre. Howard Berlin has written a concise and well-organized overview of the Mr. Moto series, The Complete Mr. Moto Phile: A Casebook. This softcover book is available for approximately $[...] from Amazon.com. Stephen Youngkin has written a book on Peter Lorre, The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre. Youngkin's book is one of the most comprehensive and best researched biographes of a Hollywood star - it is a a treasure trove of information about Peter Lorre. This hardcover book is available for approximately [...]from Amazon.com. I gained a greater appreciation for Peter Lorre's acting talents in the Mr. Moto series after I read both of these books. Please review the Amazon.com reviews for these books!

The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre
Mr. Moto - Vol 2.......2007-03-29
Thank you 20th Century Fox for realizing that those old classic B movies are loved and worth restoring.
The prints of these films are marvelously clear and complete. It is easy to see why Mr. Moto was so popular in the late 1930's. The stories are light-weight, but it is obvious that the producers and directors worked hard to make them look good. Like the Charlie Chan series, Mr. Moto films are filled with the great character actors we all recognize. In these 4 films we see Maxie Rosenblum, Dick Lane, Leon Ames, Recardo Cortez, John Carradine, George Sanders, Lionel Atwell and a truly fun performance by J. Carrol Nash as a particularly nasty Indian henchman.
The stories are full of spies and murderers who succumb to the efforts of the tenacious Mr. Moto. Of course there is always a scene where he gets to display his mastery of Ju-Jitsu. With Mr. Moto, crime is both a physical and mental sport.
In addition each film has featurettes which gives insights into the Mr. Moto character and films. Especially interesting was "Mr. Moto meets Mr. Chan, the making of Mr. Moto's Gamble."

Swords of an Honorable Ruler is darker and more dramatic than the two previous Inu-Yasha features--or the broadcast series. Inu-Yasha's father Inu no Taisho, the Great Dog Demon, possessed not two but three swords: Tetsusaiga, Tenseiga, and Sounga, which are linked to Earth, Heaven, and Hell, respectively. After the human princess Izayoi gave birth to Inu-Yasha, she was killed by Takemaru, a samurai who loved her from afar. Inu no Taisho died soon after; the sword smith Totosai and Myoga the flea hid the first two swords, according their master's instructions, and sealed away Sounga. Seven centuries later, Sounga has become one of the treasures of the Higurashi family shrine. During what should be an ordinary ritual, Sounga is freed and returns to the past through the Bone Eater's Well. The bloodthirsty spirit of the sword raises the soul of Takemaru and begins a campaign of hideous destruction. Can Inu-Yasha, Kagome, Shippo, Miroku, Sango, and Sesshomaru defeat the sword-ghoul--individually or collectively?
In addition to being more violent than other Inu-Yasha films, Swords of an Honorable Ruler is more lavish, with lots of CG special effects and a score by Kaoru Wada that evokes The Rite of Spring. Director Toshiya Shinohara keeps things movie so briskly, the viewer doesn't have time to miss Naraku, Kikyo, or the Shikon Jewel, although the final battle goes on far too long. The drama and passion of Swords of an Honorable Ruler will delight Inu-Yasha fans. (Rated PG-13: violence, grotesque imagery, minor risqué humor) --Charles Solomon
Description
Many years ago, the Great Dog Demon wielded the Three Swords of the Fang. Upon his death, he bequeathed a sword to each of his sons, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, leaving the third sword, the wrath-filled Sounga, locked away forever. Now that the Sounga's power has been awakened, these two battling brothers must put away their sibling rivalry and face off against a force that spells doom for all mankind!

Beautiful story.......2007-06-03
If you are not hooked on Inuyasha yet, you're in for a big surprise. The key is to start watching it from the very beginning, because, like some soft of soap opera, it is building up on each movie, everything is a key to a puzzle. We have a whole Inuyasha library and it's just such a sweet, unusual, and dark story. Highly recommended!
Inuyasha the movie 3: Better than Movie 2?.......2007-04-12
Out of all 4 of the Inuyasha movies, this is the last one i've seen. I'd been told that this movie was the best of the bunch. After purchsing it I was not dissapointed at all. As far as the four movies go, this is one of the best, although my preference still puts Movie 2: Castle behind the looking glass out on top. But this movie has top-notch animation, a pure evil brilliantly played villain and it always keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I have always been a large fan of Inuyasha. Its one of my favourite anime's of all time. But i myself was disappointed with movie 1. This movie is top notch compared to it though. The first thing to mention is that Sesshomaru, one of the greatest Inuyasha characters finally takes a large role in the movie, unlike taking bit parts in the previous two. This is because the movie revolves around the 3 swords of the fang that Inuyasha's father created, and the battle for Inuyasha and Sesshomaru to destroy the Sounga, the Sword of Hell and the 3rd sword of their fathers. This also leads to a lot of detail of the back-story of Inuyasha'a birth and the love of his parents, a plot that i have been wanting to see for a very long time.
The film is also presented in a graphically beautiful and impressive style. Whether its the villains hideout or the passgeway to hells grim, foreboding look, or the quaint peacefull look of the modern era, the lighting and deep coloured visuals helped portray the correct settings and moods during the movie. The action itself never lets up, it feels brilliantly paced through one fight scene, to another and the plot interwoven nicely in between.
However, every silver lining has a cloud, and not all is perfect, but most is. The music is mainly well created and orchestrated, however vocal tracks like the ending songs are subpar compared to other Inuyasha songs. The voice acting for the dub is also of high quality for the key chacters, however if you get down to some of the secondary roles, such as the spirit of Sounga's sheath and Kagomes schoolfriends, the voices can make you want scratch your ears off.
Also if you're a fan of other character plots, such as Sango and Miroku, there is nothing here for you. This movie (and its not a problem) focuses on the dog demons and how they must work together to overcome the Sounga. But this movie does give Miroku, Sango and Shippo backseat roles primarily used in lengthening the fight scenes, although Miroku does have a touching moment of near sacrifice for Sango's sake.
If I had to choose a favourite between movies 2 and 3, i'd still go with movie 2, but this one is close to perfect that if you are an Inuyasha fan who does not own this, you are missing out on a classic pice of Japanimation. Rectify this immediately people! This movie, overall is too good to miss
a must see.......2007-03-29
You get history on InuYasha's mom and dad w/this one which is nice. Also you get info on the swords including some team work in the family of the dog demons. English available but you should watch it with the subtitles because there is some minor differences. Great story starts with the death of daddy dog demon and the resurrection of the man who killed him, kinda. In Kagome's world the sword is unleashed and havoc breaks out. InuYasha must take the sword into the past through the well to save the future. Only problem is the sword has a mind of it's own and wants to kill'kill'kill. Kagome saves her man and the sword finds a new host and the fight is on! Sesshemoru must team up with his brother or everyone will be sucked into hell! All I have to say is BUY IT NOW, DO NOT PASS GO, DO PASS THROUGH YOUR AMAZON CHECKOUT! Even if your not a fan yet you should like this one. If you are a fan, why are you wasting your time reading my review? BUY THE DAMN MOVIE!
My favorite Inuyasha movie........2006-11-15
If you're a fan of Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, or want to know more about the Great Dog Demon and Izayoi (Inuyasha's mother), get this movie. Naraku fans will be disappointed that he's not in it at all, but I find it a refreshing break from the regular series.
InuYasha The Movie 3 Swords Of An Honorable Ruler.......2006-08-07
I saw InuYasha The Movie 3 on Cartoon Network. So I got a copy on the movie. The DVD comes with special features. When the Great Dog Demon died, he left 3 swords behind. One when to InuYasha and the other one to Sesshomaru. The third sword was locked away forever. Now the third sword this back. InuYasha and Seaahomaru will half to put a side their rivalry and work together to save the world from wrath of the third sword.

Description
Greed, graft and corruption pollutes the city in director Tay Garnett's witty slapstick murder mystery, Slightly Honorable. Framed for the murder of party girl Alma Brehmer, honest lawyer John Webb (Pat O'Brien) crusades to prove his innocence while encountering all manner of hilariously corrupt big city denizens.A director comfortable in nearly any genre (be it the high comedy of China Seas, the heartbreaking romantic melodrama of One Way Passage, or the smoldering intrigue of the film noir classic, The Postman Always Rings Twice), Tay Garnett (1894-1977) infuses Slightly Honorable with his hallmarks - frank sexual innuendo, a rich and witty visual style and finely drawn performances.
Customer Reviews:
Wanger And Garnett Cook Up A Cinematic Gem........2005-08-13
Frank Presnell's first of three crime novels, "Send Another Coffin", is the basis for this film, completed the year following publication of the original, featuring flinty Ohio attorney John Webb (Pat O'Brien) with his wife Ann (Ruth Terry), the duo patterned somewhat upon Dashiell Hammett's Nick and Nora Charles, although Webb is less suave than Nick and more eager to stir political pots. A corrupt state politician, Vincent Cushing (Edward Arnold), is the principal target for Webb's reforming urge, and when Cushing's mistress Alma (Claire Dodd), erstwhile flame of Webb, is murdered, nearly all of the major characters seem to have a motive, including Webb, who faces most of the heat from the homicide investigation although he perceives himself to be "slightly honorable" when compared with those about him. The work includes a strong comedic element along with its murder mystery and socially conscious themes. Vivacious Terry, with her patented energy and spirit, steals the film in what she states is her favourite role, a part for which she is promised by producer Walter Wanger and director Tay Garnett that the former night club singer/dancer will be spotlighted in a musical specialty number, and that she is, one that is perfectly woven into the screenplay, this while under personal contract to Howard Hughes who loans her to Wanger for this production. A cardinal pleasure inherent with film reviewing is discovery of works that have not received an amount of recognition that they deserve, and that is the case in this instance, for it is a piece that includes among its attributes sparkling dialogue, skillful acting and, especially, that mastery of narrative pace and rhythm that marks the best efforts from Garnett who here cunningly blends details for his established mise-en-scène within the script, as is his custom. Even without his foremost mannequin, Marlene Dietrich, Travis Banton's gowns are noteworthy and there is a strikingly illustrative score from Werner Janssen.
"Don't Try Anything Funny--Remember, I'm Sober".......2005-05-09
This fun and snappy little comedy mystery from director Tay Garnett is every film buff's dream come true. It has a great cast, a good script, and best of all, hardly anyone knows about it! Ken Englund's smart sceenplay, based on the novel "Send Another Coffin" by F.G. Presnell, is full of witty one-liners in this breezy surprise every classic movie fan will want to own.
Pat O'Brien is attorney Johnny Webb and Broderick Crawford is his tough but easygoing assistant, Russ Sampson. Webb is trying to earn a huge fee for cleaning up the highway contract corruption that has led to murder. Edward Arnold is Vincent Cushing, the political boss he'll have to take down who also happens to be involved with Alma (Claire Dodd), Webb's ex-girlfriend.
When she gets knocked off on a windy night, both Webb and Cushing are the main suspects. Webb has become involved with the sweet but ditzy young Anne (Ruth Terry) and spends as much time trying not to take advantage of her as he does finding out who killed Alma. Neither is easy and both have some interesting and comical twists and turns.
Eve Arden is a ton of fun as Webb's sarcastic secretary Miss Ater, and B-movie favorite Phyllis Brooks has a fantastic turn as Sarilla Cushing, the gorgeous daughter of Vincent. She just happens to be Webb's alibi when a second murder occurs using the same weapon, which keeps turning up in Webb's office!
There is a surprising and spirited conclusion to the mystery and an equally satisfying one to the love angle, as the delightful Anne finally gets to stick around as Johnny's permanent girl. O'Brien and the rest of the cast are terrific in this delightful little gem that may just be the most entertaining mystery you've never heard of.
Finding films like this one is what classic movie fans live for. This is one that doesn't let you down. Keep in mind it's one of those public domain films so the print is decent if not excellent, but certainly one you need to see. Highly recommended!

Gruelling but effecient and exciting little film........2003-11-04
I really enjoyed this movie, it is obviously a low budget production, but I was really impressed by the passion and energy behind the film making, I highly recommend it! Also I suspect that Mister vandenberg, the lead actor is headed to higher and finer things. Keep a eye out for him. He posseses a raw energy i haven't experienced in a while!
The Honorable.......2003-10-17
This is really worth buying if you like action and brilliant camera work. It's beautifully filmed and Eric Etebari and Dominique Vandenberg give fine performances. The sound track creates just the right mood. I really recommend it.
A Must-See Film - The Honorable.......2003-09-07
This film had a powerful impact on me, the inner conflicts of the main character, Andre, were tangible, and reflected in the stark camera work and composition. I recommend this film highly, there is plenty of action too, with great music.
The Honorable.......2003-09-07
The Honorable is a fine example of independant film making. It is a dark film about the sleezy side of nightclubs and gangster wantabe's. It is filled with action, seduction, and emotion. I enjoyed Eric Etebari's portrayal of Jr. Lopez. Eric is a fine actor and brought this character to life. This fine actor should be used in more mainstream as well as many more independant films.
The Honorable.......2003-09-03
I love how Eric Etebari protrayed his Charactor Junior Lopez. Eric Etebari made the charactor alive and believable as a thug. I enjoyed watching Eric and will be looking for him to be cast in more major roles. He is an up and coming actor worth watching. He has an amazing talent to bring the role he plays alive and believable. His body language and voice add that special touch to the charactor he plays.

Drug investigator Ryan Smith faces the toughest decision of his life, a choice between love and honor. Ryan finds out that the woman he loves, Mandy, is involved with the same drug dealers he is arresting. The influence of another woman's love, and the cataclysmic climax of high risk drug raid brings the movie to a stunning turning point. Can Casey's love pull him away from the confused but alluring Mandy? The heart-pumping action of gunfights, SWAT-raids and car chases pauses just long enough for a captivating romance set in the middle of this action movie about the take down of a drug king pin.

Honorable Men.......2007-05-27
I rather liked the movie. I thought that the movie and the music that was in the movie was pretty decent.
It IS a good movie!.......2007-05-27
I very much enjoyed "Honorable Men." I found it just the right balance between drama/romance and action. The music was excellent and left me singing "No, I'm not a hero" for days. I would highly recommend this film.
All-time worst.......2007-05-26
If this movie was made to be serious, it is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies of all time. The lack of acting ability of the star is exceeded only by his lack of writing ability. There is a lot of this movie that doesn't make any sense.
If this movie was made as comedy, it would probably help to be drinking heavily before one views it.
